    Awesome remote play handheld

This is a great portable handheld accessory for the PS5. The game streaming from the console works great with very little lag and the 8 inch HD screen looks amazing. It's great being able to play PS5 games away from the TV in another part of the house like the basement, backyard or in bed. This is a must have accessory for remote play.

I’ve been using the PlayStation Portal Remote Player since October, and overall I really enjoy it. The build quality feels premium, the screen is crisp, and the controls feel exactly like a DualSense, which makes remote play feel surprisingly close to playing on my PS5 directly. The only thing keeping this from being a full 5 stars is the battery life. It works well for short to medium play sessions, but I do find myself needing to recharge sooner than expected. For long gaming sessions, you’ll want to keep a charger nearby. Still, it’s a great device if you want to play around the house without being tied to the TV. If Sony improves the battery life in future versions, it’ll be perfect.

It's a great product and serves a very specific purpose. It streams games from your Playstation 5 to this handheld. Best used if your PS5 is on ethernet and connected to the same network as this handheld, AKA you're at home where the PS5 is. However, i recently traveled to Florida and was able to play Final Fantasy XVI, streamed from my PS5 in California, with still very usable input lag. Quality is amazing, setup is quick and easy, and the controller is basically a Dualsense cut in half (which is a good thing). Drawbacks are lack of a web browser so you cannot connect to public wifi requiring a website agreement. No bluetooth so only audio options are built in speakers (they're okay), aux port, or PS Link headset/ear buds. Also i think this is a huge missed opportunity to allow support for game streaming classic PS1/2/3 titles via PS Plus. This could be a huge subscriber boost for Sony if they enabled PS Plus game streaming without the need of a PS5. Perhaps in the bext iteration.

A lot of people on various Reddits and over the internet in general said this thing was stupid and pointless but I was still interested in it. I watched a few YouTube reviews on it and a couple said they didn't enjoy it while quite a few others said it was awesome, and I gotta say, this thing IS awesome. As a married man that likes to play video games late while his partner is asleep but doesn't want to bother or keep her awake with the tv on this thing is incredible. The picture quality is amazing, the sound is crisp and more than loud enough even when playing on my patio. Holding the PS Portal for an extended period of time isn't uncomfortable and my hands don't cramp up and I have fairly large hands, and the controls are identical to the dual shock, even down to the haptics and vibrations. I will say that I almost give it 4 stars just because you need a pretty solid wifi connection to have full quality when playing from your PS5, but it's almost always in HD and plays incredibly smooth with rare lag or frame drops. That being said, when I go to connect to my PS5 for remote play it only takes about 15-20 seconds to wake up my PS5 and start remote playing, which might seem like a long wait until you realize that when you start your PS5 from rest mode it takes 10 seconds to wake up and be ready play, so really it's hardly a difference. And the cloud streaming with the PSN+ also works flawlessly. And whether you're playing from the cloud or your PS5 as long as you have a good internet connection you can play anywhere making it fantastic for those that travel a lot or want to bring something on vacation for when the whether is poor, or like me, you want to play games late at night and not wake up your partner. If you've got the extra $200 and you've been eyeballing one of these bad boys, GET ONE! P.S. (Not PlayStation) the case I'm using is Skull & Co and it was $25 on Amazon and it's a perfect fit.

10/10 buy it if you enjoy sleeping alone. Bought this for my fiancé and he plays it every. single. night. My 10-year-old wants one too, but I’m hesitant because he treats controllers like they personally offended him, and I’m not sure the joysticks are replaceable. That said, it’s genuinely impressive- huge screen, smooth gameplay, and way cooler than expected. Bonus: if you’re a nighttime reader who enjoys uninterrupted alone time, this is the perfect gift. Great product for the price. Questionable for relationships. Would still recommend.

Playstation 5 everywhere sounds great many people sink and talk garbage about the portal and don't understand what it is or its use its a streaming device for the PlayStation 5 I've gone portable more than playing on my television the PlayStation portal is light and has all you expect from a dualsense controler just that its cut in half and a screen was placed down the middle i was on the fence over a wifi only device but not anymore ive gone out and used it in the home of family members and yes my PS5 is home just remember to keep it in sleep mode but so far my experience and expectations have been met and the portal does what i want and performs the way i want i love mines very much and im super greatful best buy had it back in stock if you ask if its worth it yes it is if your library is large and don't want to purchase the games again on a portable gaming PC... just wanted to use the device before my review

Honestly wasnt sure how i would like it but being a dad on the move and having to go places this is a great portable option as long as wifi or data is available. I would say this is better then the backbone and definitely a bigger screen.

This is a different approach to handheld gaming. I found having my ps5 etherenet in and using it creates a way sturdier connection with less lag, even with my system on wifi I dont really run into any problems. This is a great device if you want to play but not sit at your setup all the time. I did try it on my hotspot and it was pretty impressive that the system was able to keep up.

Absolutely love this thing. I’m so happy with my purchase. I was a little upset when I first got it because it was virtually unplayable. It kept skipping and I have pretty fast internet, so I wasn’t sure what was going on. I went on Reddit and everyone provided suggestions and the 1 suggestion that worked is having my PS5 hardwired to the router. I tried that and it was night and day. The Portal worked perfectly and now i can use it anywhere in my house and it’s amazing! The screen is huge and the dual sense controllers are incredibly comfortable. Highly recommend!

The PS Portal is a great device for gamers on the go or gamers with Kids. Its reasonably light weight and easy to use. Setup only took 5 minutes and it was ready. The visuals are great and game play is smooth. Definitely worth the $200

I can’t believe how much I love this thing. I happen to be 1500 miles away from my PS5, getting to be able to play it like it’s in the other room. We do struggle bit with the Internet speed but when my speed is fine. The picture is very clear is very comfortable to hold I love the adaptive triggers. Taking this on the go is awesome. My biggest wish would be to be able to download some of my non-Internet playing games on the go. Maybe have them sink once you get back to Internet.

The PlayStation Portal is a fantastic device for gamer parents. You get to play your games anywhere, full Dual Sense functionality, and easy to setup and use. If you have ever used PS Remote Play, the experience will be very similar. With a device like this, your experience is dependent on how good your WiFi is. Unlike using remote play on your phone or tablet that has mobile connectivity (4g or 5g), the portal can be limiting when on the go. However, connecting to your phones mobile hotspot works great as well. To compare using the PlayStation Portal to say the Backbone One, ergonomicly the Portal is miles better in terms of comfort of use. The Backbone One definitely has its situational uses, but as a person with larger than than normal hands the controls felt extremely cramped so it's a vast improvement in that regard. Comparing how gameplay works on both, the experience will nearly identical in terms of connectivity. One down side to the Portal is that it uses the same remote play functionality as the app on your phone which is kind of a bummer, but overall my experience on both devices have been great, both on WiFi and on mobile. Is the PlayStation Portal perfect? No. Is it a useless device that the internet has been bashing? No. The Portal isn't for everyone, and is definitely targeted to those that can't always use the TV or dedicate hours of couch time for a gaming session. Some negatives that I have with the device are it's battery life and no Bluetooth connectivity. If you have ever used a Dual Sense controller before, you know how fast those batteries drain during gaming sessions, the Portal is no different unfortunately. With no dedicated graphics hardware or really any power sucking hardware (other than really the screen) you get your standard Sony 4-5 hours of use between charges. When having multiple mini gaming sessions throughout the day, I'm always looking for a charger. One major omission the Portal has is that there is no standard Bluetooth connectivity. The only way to connect to it is to either use wired headsets (which some may prefer) or buy Sony's PS Link compatible headsets which an additional cost on top of the Portals $200 price point. There are work arounds for using wireless headsets but it requires connecting a dongle to your PS5 and connecting your headphones to it, but you're limited by the range of the Bluetooth and how far away you get from your console which is really unfortunate. Even with some of the drawbacks, I really enjoy the PlayStation Portal and use it almost exclusively for gaming sessions. I haven't personally experienced any connectivity issues, drops, or disconnects but your milage may vary depending on your Internet connection. Happy gaming!

It is gorgeous, the sony's high quality is there and it is awesome to play on it. I had the oportunity to play in a house with 500mb internet speed and also in another with 2gb and i can tell, this is a critical utem to keep in mind, on the 2gb speed the game played smoothly, 0% lag/buffering , etc. But also it is sad you need to have your ps5 on to play, kind of expensive luxury. If you have many tvs probably you dont need this gadget. But if you have only 1 tv and nleed to share with other family members welll then you should give a try.

Got this for my 12 year-old for Christmas. He set it up all by himself using his PS4 account. As long as you have the Playstation subscription and WiFi, it works great!!! It even comes with a few Playstation classics, like Twisted Metal 3!!! Insane, I know!!! Reminded me of the old Sega Game Gear, but with a lot better graphics. LoL. Highly recommend for the casual gamer.

Best 200 dollar I have spent so far . I have used it from different homes and as long as you got good WiFi it will work great. I use it for when I don’t want to get out of bed , and my wife is sleeping next to me . Pair it to head phones and play . Also i use it to play it on the go. I was able to even play Fortnite on it because of how smooth it runs . However it’s complicated to get a lot of kills due to the screen size . But for story games it’s perfect . I’ve been playing Elden Ring non stop on it Built quality : It’s premium. It feels like a very expensive handheld from the smoothness of the fabric to the weight of the Portal everything is perfect . Comfort: It literally feels like you’re holding the PlayStation controller but with more weight which makes it feel even better . Built in speakers : They are pretty loud . Not so loud that the sound is distorted. Just a prefect balance. Screen quality : 10/10 the screen looks vibrant and the colors looked well toned . Also I have played outside in the back porch in a well lit area and you can see pretty the screeb pretty well . I could not be happier with a purchase from Sony . Recommend 100 percent .

Its really good and convenient to use anywhere but the con is that you'll have to have really strong wifi signal to use it seamlessly. I honestly think Sony should have made it where you can use moble data with it like they did with the PS Vita cause not a lot of places have a really strong wifi signal. Overall is really good to use, it was like having my PS5 literally in my hands. Although i wouldn't recommend using it if you're playing online with other people cause of the wifi signal strength I mentioned earlier but it is good to play on if you're playing single-player games.
