I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy this device. I had some connection issues the first day on my old router. Upgraded to a mesh setup and its been flawless everywhere in my house. No noticeable lag at all. I mostly play single player games so if you play MP, YMMV. I mostly use this in bed before sleeping and when my wife is using the LGCX. It feels great to hold and the battery life is more than enough for my needs. Happy with my purchase.

PlayStation 5 Experience in the palm of the hand!

Took a chance on the PS Portal due to it being on sale on Cyber Monday. As a collector, I was going to buy anyways but the reason for my 5 star review is because of how functional this device is. The PlayStation Plus integration on the device elevated this handheld as a must have for me assuming you are willing to pay for the max tier sub of PlayStation Plus. You are able to access the PlayStation Plus library of games without the need of your console to be on. That list is constantly growing. The remote play from the console works as advertised and runs smoothly for me. You must make sure you have a solid WiFi signal to have the best experience. At $179 at the time, it was an easy purchase for me. If you love the PS5 and want to take that experience on the go, buy a Portal.

Got the matte black version of this a few days ago.. Been wanting this for a while now and finally got it. I have to say im a little bit disappointed. Dont get me wrong, this thing is beautifully designed and the graphics on it looks pretty awesome. But what kills it is the lags.. i have a 300mbps internet connection (now it could be my wifi acting up), but even with just my PlayStation portsl connected, i was having some issues this morning. i.e. kept losing internet connection, also was lagging a lot. Even in single play games/game modes like fc24 and RDR2. I did, however play diably 4 online last night and it ran smoothly.. but then again theres that occasional lags.

With the new 4.0 update, this device is a game changer for anyone interested in the PlayStation. Being able to cloud stream games, with my PS5 packed up for a move was heaven sent. No PS5 needed. You cannot download games natively to this device, but with the proper internet connection, playing on the Portal feels almost identical to playing natuve. The dualsense haptics and triggers feel better than any other controller I've ever used, but they should have made the thumbsticks bigger. The screen looks very good to say it is not OLED screen and the sound is decent, but no mind blowing. I would not recommend this device for people that have only marginal internet connection, that wants to play without internet connection, or wants to watch netflix or youtube, as Sony has locked this thing down to just their ecosystem. But for what it, it does an exceptional job with no other device quite like it.

This is such a good gadget now, with the cloud gaming available, it could be a stand alone console with this feature, you no longer require a ps5 console to play. I love it it is a really good Christmas present!!!

This system is much better than I had read about. The screen is large and has beautiful color and contrast! When I go back to play my Asus ROG Ally, the screen seems so much "smaller". I do have an issue with internet connection cutting out when I first start a game, then it goes way and plays flawlessly.

Total Game Changer If You're A Gaming Parent

When Sony first revealed this handheld device, it was not appealing to me at all, but once I started to hear good reviews about it, I was persuaded to see for myself. Took some time, but eventually, I was able to get my hands on this elusive gaming device (I refuse to get ripped off by scalpers). The set-up was pretty straightforward, all you need is your PS5 Console and a strong sustainable WiFi connection (preferably the same network connected to your console). So, my PS5 console is hooked up in my living room, where 80% of the time it's being occupied by my wife and kids, and when you add in 50+hr work weeks, I rarely get the opportunity or have the energy to sit down and enjoy a proper game session. But, now that I have the PlayStation Portal, I'm able to game at my leisure, in the comfort and solitude of my own bedroom. Couple things to be aware of, if you're a traditional gamer like myself, who likes to buy physical disc games, whatever game you wish to play on the Portal, that physical disc has to be in your PS5 console in order to work. Also, if you wish to play on your Portal a good distance away from your PS5 console (car, work, etc.), unless you have a strong WiFi/Hot Spot connection, the Portal will have difficulties with streaming your game. Overall, the PlayStation Portal is a remarkable device, that has completely blown me away, and I can't thank Sony enough, for creating an outlet for gaming parents.

Definitely recommend, especially if you share the TV with family or if you travel. Playing in bed has also become a thing. The battery life is good and the quality is nice also. I think it’s a great addition and the price point is perfect.

This thing had me confused at first; why would I need something like this? Then I read about other people playing games on it while leaving the tv free for other people and idea seemed great. I had to wait awhile to get one but it serves that exact purpose for me. My PS5 is literally in my room but I like to listen to familiar media like tv shows while I game so I play on the Portal while listening to tv shows in the background. The Portal is perfect 99% of the time; once in a while it’ll take a slight pause but it’s never ruined my gameplay. I’ve been playing Uncharted: Lost Legacy and that game has run smoothly every time I play with the slightest little pause once in a while but it hasn’t ruined my enjoyment of the game. My only complaint of the device is with Best Buy specifically; I ordered online for in store pickup and my box was extremely dented; thankfully the Portal itself wasn’t damaged but any store associate should’ve known that kind of packaging shouldn’t have been given to a customer, it just looks bad on the company. I’ve included pictures so people can see what I’m talking about. Like I said, the device is great, Best Buy associates need to put more care into how packages are handled.

Bought 2 of them, and I love mine so much. Got the black one (giggity). This device is perfect, other than needing WiFi to play the games. This is the only way to get PS5 quality graphics on a handheld. Not even the $1000 handhelds have graphics this good, and that’s all thanks to streaming the games and not running them off the system itself. However, because of needing WiFi to play games AND needing a PS Plus Premium subscription, this gets 4/5 stars. Eliminate the need for the premium PSN and this is a solid 5.

The concept behind this device is truly remarkable, offering an impressive display and a tactile user experience that is second to none. However, its functionality falls short due to a critical limitation: the inability to play the PlayStation Portal. This flaw is akin to owning a Lamborghini devoid of an engine — visually striking, yet fundamentally lacking in purpose. Additionally, the device's Wi-Fi capabilities are subpar. Despite having a high-speed internet connection at home, I experienced significant lag and poor image quality, rendering the experience frustrating. Regrettably, I had to return the device after just an hour of use due to these issues. It's a fantastic concept with immense potential, and I sincerely hope future iterations will include enhanced features like Wi-Fi 6 to fully realize its promise.

Like the title and many other reviews have stated, the Playstation Portal is absolutely amazing if your internet is blazing fast. You'll get a crisp 1080p and for single player games it's an absolute joy to play. HOWEVER, most people don't have wired gigabyte internet, in fact my area (major city on the west coast) doesn't even have a provider offer those internet speeds you see from youtubers. As a result, out of an hour of gameplay, i'm probably disconnecting twice and most of my gameplay is around 780p while having 2-3 times where the quality drops down to 144p which is aweful. While that issue is down to my internet, Playstation isn't pushing out enough updates to fix the latency issue either. If your internet is fast I'd recommend otherwise, no.
