It pains me to admit it...

I was so looking forward to the release of the PlayStation Classic that, against my better judgement (I hardly do pre-orders) I ordered as soon as it was available. Then, the leaked and released information came out and I started to worry. However, I continued to have faith that Sony would deliver a gaming experience I was hoping for. Well, the day came and I sadly have to admit that the rumors and reports were true. This is one of the poorest conceptions that Sony has ever implemented. Upon opening the box, the "look" of the console is cute and gives it a "collector's items" sort of feel, which is nice. However, the feeling soon wears out as I noticed that it did not come with a power pack. Just a micro-USB cable and the HDMI cable. So I ended up using a spare phone charger (make sure it is the right voltage). I fired up the console hoping to see a great UI. Unfortunately, it is bare and lackluster. There are no bells or whistles. There are few options (no catscan lines or resolutions, or disk speed, etc.) OK... At least I have the games. I was then even more disappointed by the lineup. Everyone's got favorites they'd like to see, but mostly everyone agrees that it was less than expected. I personally wished they'd included titles such as Parappa the Rapper, Crash Bandicoot (the original mascot!), and Spyro… Well, I immediately went to start my favorite games of the bunch -Metal Gear Solid. Oh boy, to my horror it looked terrible on my 50" 4k TV. Much blockier than I remember. Also, this game works best with vibration so using the "original controller took something away from the experience I remember... Yes, I know that the original res and polygon count was much, much lower, but there was absolutely no effort in making it any better. Even the PSP and VITA did a much better job! I even tried it on a smaller 32" 1080p screen. I then played other favorites such as Tekken 3 and Ridge Racer Type 4. Even more horrifying was that they move oh-so-slow! This is because they decided to use Europe's PAL instead of NTSC, lowering the frequency and therefore affecting the "speed" of the game. There's also no chance of updating the firmware or line up (maybe by way of USB, but that's wishful thinking) I really cannot recommend this console at $99.99 at all. If it ever goes below $30USD, maybe I would recommend it, but only as a nostalgia item. Sorry to be so tough on it, but Sony did deserve it this time...

Almost half the line up is the PAL version instead of the NTSC version for North America. This means that there will be a NOTICEABLE input lag on almost half the games. The colors on the games are all muted and don't pop at all. The interface is going for a retro PS1 memory card menu look, but the design is lazy and the developers could have done much better. Two controllers are included (which is nice) but they are not dual shock and a few games I feel would benefit from having the two motion sticks. The line up of games isn't a good representation of the true gems that are on the console. Not convinced of this? Just look at the NES and SNES classic; these two consoles had games on it that were the top sellers on the system. There is no AC adapter included, and in today's age of technology and electronics is unacceptable. Save your hard earned money and buy a used PS3/PS2 console to play PS1 games of your choosing, use an emulator or just buy a PS1 console. Lazy effort by Sony on this one. Pass on this

Just as everybody else has said, the PlayStation Classic is a joke. I played it for about 30 minutes and promptly did a factory reset and return to the store after seeing how terrible the emulation on some of the games were. For $100, Sony should have included Dual Analog controllers at the minimum and put actual NTSC/U games on the console. They must have gone with the PAL versions to keep the frame rates from skipping too much because of hardware limitations. The game selection is also pretty lame and does not capture the true entertainment potential of the system. Sony would be much better off if they introduced a budget console next year to allow for PS1, PS2, PSP, and Vita emulation with a store where you could buy the games you want and include some greatest hits in the box to get you started.

This thing is giving me flash backs to the Neo Geo X that came out a few years ago. People keep complaining about the games list when really that is not the worst of its problems. The emulation of these games is so bad its pretty shocking. Sony should have hired M2 to lead this project to get some decent results. The games have slow down and the sound is out of sync, they also put a blur filter over everything so it looks terrible.(NO OPTIONS IN THE MENU TO FIX THIS!) If you still have a PS2 just use that as it looks and sounds 100% better than this package. Do not buy this unless you are a collector and don't plan to use it. With Sony censoring games and putting out sloppy cash ins on our nostalgia, they sure are having a incredible end of the year for Playstation fans.

This mini console is emulated by PSXe. Not only that, it's got games that are from the PAL region so you end up getting games that lag or are out of sync. Why they couldn't get the games as NTSC is beyond me. The game selection titles have more games that I wouldn't even bother touching. Buy this only if you're a collector and have to have a piece of gaming history. It's only great titles that make it the PS Classic are Tekken 3, FF7, Metal Gear Solid 1 and Resident Evil. If you're planning on doing something to the console, bear in mind it comes with 16GB all of which are basically used to load the 20 games.

Like many, I bought into the Retro Console craze, and despite the negative attention before release I kept with it. I got the console, and after a day I hate it. The attention to physical detail is great, the console looks like the original despite being much smaller. The buttons on the console have the same give and feel like the original. The letdown is the software. Yes there are only 20 games, but they look terrible. Reading the text on the screen is unbearable. Even a low res game like grand theft auto is not enjoyable. To see the guides for the games, you have to go to the playstation website so you can see the controls.

As others have pointed out, this is a disappointing product and I am a huge fan of most things Sony. The quality of the console is poor and cheaply built. Looks like something you’d pick up at Dollar General. Even with an HDMI connection the quality of the games do not compare to the original. The colors are washed out even on my high quality flat screen Sony Bravia TV. Forget about trying to read any on screen text. This is a very poor port and obviously a money grab for Sony. I’m really surprised this product passed the Sony Quality standards. Pass this one by! Not worth even $49.99.

This is a cash grab that could have been a million times better...but Sony just knew people would buy it anyway. And it shows. 20 games...except half of them are the pal versions which run at 50 hz instead of 60 so they feel extra sluggish. The 20 games aren't even that good. Yes FF7 is good. Tekken 3 could be good if it wasn't the pal version. Metal Gear Solid is good. Rayman is surprisingly good. Wild Arms is a hidden gem. That's pretty much it. Most of the other games haven't held up that well. The lineup isn't very good and this thing costs 100 dollars?! Compare it to the NES Classic and SNES Classic and it becomes even more apparent how awful it is.

The selection of games are very few and they are not the best titles the Emulator on the consul is very bare-bones they did not put a lot of extra features in the game like being able to stretch the screen to fit modern televisions amongst others it does not feel like Sony put their best foot forward with this consol not to mention some of the games are PAL versions which means the games play at a much lower frame rate then on the original consol I would not recommend this retro gaming device

Man where do I start? First off the console does not come with an AC adapter. The interface for the game menu looks like it was made by a novice. I mean its bad. The game save states are limited to 1 from what I can tell. The game selection is not the best. Why did I buy this? Man I was hoping for a cool experience like the NES/SNES classic consoles and for the higher price point, a better interface, more save slots, and better graphics. Wow these games look so grainy. I am debating if I should return the console and wait for version 2 of this or skip it all together.

I grew up with the Playstation in the late 90s. I have played many of these games. What is on this monstrosity is a joke and a half. I have played a lot of Tekken 3 back in the day and don't recall being so laggey. I double checked multiple TVs and the original disc between my PS2 and my PS3. I really hope who ever is responsible for this blunder get fired. They have missed a good opportunity and ruined my childhood memory. Even those awful AtGames Sega systems from a few years ago you could get for $40 back then still holds a higher value than this thing. I hope the plastic shell is durable to some bottle rockets and M-80s.

So I purchased this on pre-order, and after playing with it for quite some time now I can say with conviction: DO NOT PURCHASE IT. This is the first time I truly feel cheated by a company and it saddens me that is Playstation since I hold it very dearly to my heart since that Xmas time in 95 when my aunt bought it for me. I bought it out of nostalgia and it is a huge disappointment. The controls to the games feels sloppy and you struggle with the commands. It feels like they just took the games from an internet emulator and placed it on a nice looking container. Also with so many great games to chose from the selection that they added is quite poor and disappointing.

This console is garbage. It got price dropped from $99.99 to $59.99 within a month of it's initial release. If you unlocked console and added more games and features it might be worth it, but AS IS it's not worth more then $19.99 purchase the game selection is poor and they use PAL versions of a lot of the games which is not good, because US res is 60hz while PAL is 50hz which makes noticeable slowdown. The parts inside are also very cheap which leads to poor emulation of the games you can hear how horrible some of the games sound if you take a look on youtube. All in all this system is not worth buying even at the lowered $59.99 price point, so I am returning mine for a refund.

There are some decent games on here, but nearly all of them are games I’ll play a short period of time and never touch for years. Missing important classics such as Castlevania and Jet Moto. Should have been better sequels like Resident Evil 2 instead of the first one. The games also run horrible. Super laggy and choppy. I hear it’s because they are European PAL versions instead of North American NTSC versions. The end this, the thing doesn’t include a power adapter. All USB adapters output different amps and wattage. You could blow the thing up by using your own if it outputs too much power.

This is done in very poor quality compared to Nintendo's classic mini systems. I would not recommenced anyone wasting $100 on this. Wait for it to go on sale or use something else. The only way I would justify this as a purchase is if you are into the homebrew scene. Thats all Im going to say about that. As it stands, its close to being a nice expensive plastic mini PS1 toy coaster. It runs PAL versions of several games which perform poorly and it has a really bad choice for the library of games installed. On top of all that, it doesnt even run 1st party emulation by Sony themselves!!

I pre-ordered it when they only gave you 5 of the 20 games that were going to be on it. I loved playing 3 of them on they system and I was thinking that it was going to be like the Nintendo and Super Nintendo classic where they were going to be impossible to find. when they released the other 15 games that were going to be on it, I wasn't going to play any of those and they were missing some of the iconic games that made the play station timeless. so when I received it in the mail, I immediately returned it. It wasn't worth the $100. don't waist your time with this system

This system is unpolished and half baked, and the games simply don’t play well. Between the 50 vs 60 hz rom drama rendering some games nearly unplayable, lack of analog support despite bundling games that practically require it, hideous aliasing for main menu wheel, and leaving off common sense games that Sony has licensing for (such as their own Gran Turismo) along with a single savestate slot per game, this system is not fun or very nolstalgic. Even the 40% price drop within a month of launch won’t save this steaming pile.

Sony could of done a bang up job but choose to go the cheap route. 9 games that are PAL?? Those were some of the good games IE Tekken 3. The controllers are solid and that's about it. I already bought 2 and just waiting for the DEV teams to do a little more with it. Nintendo is the only company that has done right by these mini's. Total shame. VERY VERY disappointed.

Ok from a longtime Sony Playstation Fan, this Toy is a Big Let Down. So Bad I returned it to the Store. I still own my PS1,PS2,PS3 and the PS3 Plays PS1 Games Great, and it has a HDMI Connection so, If anything go buy a good used PS3 to play the PS 1 Games. This thing spits and sputters like crazy. I have heard that the Emulators you can download online does a better job than this and this is from the OE company. and no Analog Controllers, Really Sony.

Unless you know you want this, you know what you are getting yourself into. If you are wondering if someone on your Christmas list might like it, they won't. Not recommended for anyone. I pre-ordered it, and will be returning it because its a total money grab, no value in it at all. I have been happy with my NES and SNES Classic, but this is just overpriced and not even nostalgia will be enough here.
