Playstation classic is fun but disappointing for a few reasons. Reason number one is the lack of legendary games such as Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, and Gran Turismo. But there are some pretty good ones such as Grand Theft Auto, Intelligence Qube, Tekken 3, and Twisted Metal. Another reason is the ridiculous cable length, which isn't as appalling as the cable for the NES classic, but still annoying and makes the console hard to play on a couch with a big screen TV. Hasn't Sony heard of Bluetooth? Also why are most of the games European versions? And why no AC adapter? I love the small design of the console, if only the disc tray was able to be opened. While there are annoyances, there is some enjoyment you can get out of the console. The games are still pretty good even if some of them are irrelevant to the legacy of the PS1. I am fine with the lack of analog sticks, as they make the controller look like the original Dualshock, and is not really a annoyance like the wires. (They could have at least made the wires longer, geez) What my point is, if you are not a big PS fan, or have the original PS1, then stay away as far as possible. If you are willing to accept the faults of the console, you might find some enjoyment out of it like I did, even though some of the cons kinda annoy me to this day. You can't deny the game are exciting and fun anyway. I can understand why this console is getting so much hate though, Sony could have made this amazing or at least make the games available for PS4, but they choose to make an very imperfect console instead.

    Nostalgia Impulse

Bought this mostly to add to my gaming collection and because of the nostalgia of the original system. The quality of the system feels perfectly fine, and the controllers feel like the usual Sony quality. I knew the game selection wasnt great going in, but half of these Ill never even start once, they should have added better quality games. While the hardware seems solid, the software emulation feels very slow and lazily implemented. Hopefully some aftermarket tweaks will make this niche system what it should have been. For the $100 price tag, I can't recommend anyone buy this for anything other than a collectable item.

Horrible lag in all of the games, almost unplayable. Blur effect makes graphics look different than you might remember them. Forgot how bad the PS1 controller was compared to modern controllers with joysticks, but thats minor compared to the buyer's regret I felt after hooking this thing up and playing it. If you bought the NES classic or SNES classic at 60 and 70 dollars respectively, and don't ever play those, well... don't buy this one. Only hope left is that we all figure out a way to hack it. Positive note, if you hookup certain USB keyboards you can hit the ESC button and access hidden emulation options menus, which might help. BestBuy does not allow review edits like most other modern websites or else I would say that I will keep the review updated :\

Sadly Sony didn't care about preserving their legacy through one of these classic systems. This is barely a step above those generic "Retro Console" sold at Wallmart/ Target, whatever. But on the other hand the comunity have come to the rescue and with a little soft modding you can turn this into the ultimate PS1 classic. Same idea as the NES/SNES classic. Thanks to the community you can played most games without having to hack the system itself if you want. You can even play with the PS4 controller as well. My advice is to get it if you are planning on going all the way and modding the thing, if you are on the fence get it for half the price and enjoy some of the games in here. But if you are just curious then stay far away from this and get yourself a RetroPie or emulate it on you PC.

Let me just say this, Sony absolutely nailed the quality of this mini representation of the original PS1 console. The detail down to the vent ports on the bottom showing a fake I/O shield really show how much they cared about the look. Now, as for the software....yeah. The selection of games certainly isn't the greatest. Out of the 20, probably less than half are true classics and the others thrown on likely because they were cheap to license. Which is a shame. On top of that the emulation quality is only so-so. Inconsistent framerates everywhere. But, for the plug and play system that it is, it isn't horrible. Just, imperfect. It can certainly be quite fun to sit and chill with a friend and play some of these classics. It could (and should) have been so much more.

I originally preordered the PS Classic, but cancelled it based on the the variety and quantity of different negative reviews. It had a few games I was interested in playing again, but wasn’t willing to drop a $100 on a classic system. I picked it up after the price drop and while there are only a few games I really play it is worth the money if primarily for the nostalgia factor. Take note that there are still frame rate issues and many of the games have not aged well. Also, the controller cord is too short! What is it with these classic systems?

The console is built well. The quality is exactly what you would expect from Sony, however the one pain point of the hardware is the lack of the Analog controllers. You have to use the D-Pad to control the direction, which is often times extremely difficult to do. Play Grand Theft Auto to prove my point. Even SONY came out with Analog joy sticks to improve the quality of gameplay back when this console originally came out. If they had that one element, this would be a 4 out of 5 star rating.

Now that the price is reasonable, I decided to pick up the PlayStation Classic. I wasn't too thrilled with the game selection but supposedly you can take care of that *wink wink* or just play FFVII till you're tired of it. It comes with two controllers (I'm looking at you Nintendo for the re-release of the Nintendo Classic) but doesn't come with a power plug. You have to use USB and that won't satisfy all users. So weird piece of tech that seemed very rushed for what the PlayStation was.... or perhaps I remember the PSone years differently and yearn really for a PS2 system. Give me Gran Turismo 3 or give me ….. something else. Whatever.

The system feels cheap out of the box. This should be one those $30 off brand remakes. It doesn’t include a charger block so I have to use the one from my Nintendo which is fine but for the $40 more that it cost over the NES classic it should have its own charger. The games seem ok, haven’t played much yet. You buy these mini systems for the look and feel of the old systems and this one just doesn’t have it. Better off playing the games on your PC.

I pre-ordered the PlayStation Classic because it was a console I grew up playing. With the craze of classic mini consoles being released, I didn't wanna miss out. As negative reviews started to leak out, I started to become a bit disappointed, but I still purchased it and gave it a shot. Unfortunately the PlayStation Classic fell short. Yes, it's a great throwback, Yes, it's fun, but the choices of games leaves you wanting more. The settings that Sony decided to give you out of the box leave you wanting so much more. Thankfully with a price cut, and the ability to do some work under the hood (if that's your sort of thing), the PlayStation Classic is an enjoyable console.

When Sony announced the PS1 Classic, I was very excited. I spent countless hours on that console and could not wait to play Tomb Raider, Tony Hawk, Wipeout and Crash Bandicoot. None of those games were included and now you can buy the system half price at every retailer. The truth is, Nintendo just did it better with their NES and SNES Classic systems for less money. Considering that Sony was late to the game with a retro console and decided to charge more, you'd think they would have put together a decent list of games. Sorry, but I have no interest in playing Intelligent Qube and Mr. Driller. Pass on this one.

Between the games selection (Who was begging for Rainbow Six?), the default regional settings for a bunch of games (PAL instead of NTSC for a product meant to be used in the NTSC regions? Why?), and the bare bones options, this is a product that would have benefited from a little more time and love put into it. There's still a handful of games that are great to revisit, but it wasn't worth the original $99.99 it was being solicited for. Even after buying it for $30, it was still a tough pill to swallow once it was up and running.

I have actually had fun with the PlayStation Classic and currently playing Jumping Flash. The one annoying thing about the PlayStation Classic is that it does not come with an AC Adapter and the USB Port on my 4K TV could not power the console. I did have to go back and buy an AC Adapter for $12 which was not the end of the world, but everything required to play the console should be included. I took 2 stars off since some of the graphics are a bit choppy on a few games and that an USB AC Adapter was not included.

Really wanted something else with this from Sony. Being a hardcore Sony fan, still have to admit that Sony really put minimal effort into this retro console launch. It does have about 3-4 can't miss classic games but getting the PAL versions of certain games is just an inexplicable (even though a 'hack' exists t o get the NTSC version. If you have no other option to get ahold of these games, the new reduced price is a good time to get this. Sad that this lifelong Playstation fan can't fully recommend what could have been a perfect retro console. :(

It has some good games but it is missing the classic games that made the PlayStation the iconic system it was back in the day probably wasn't able to secure the rights to the 3rd party company's to keep this thing under 100 bucks people compare this to the Nintendo classic systems but the majority of what is on the NES and SNES classic was published by Nintendo Sony got to making there own games later own in the PlayStation one era now if they made a PS2 classic with majority Sony games on that under a hundred count me in.

If you've read anything about the PlayStation Classic, it probably hasn't been good. But I kick myself everyday for having sold my old consoles. While I could buy a used PS and games to fulfill my old games cravings, buying a retro classic console with a handful of games I would play (Syphon Filter, MGS, Ridge Racer, Rayman) was worth it. And with the recent price drops, I think it's a no brainer. I would buy more games for it if I could and I'm hoping that becomes an option down the road (I'm looking at you hackers).

This isn't in the same league as the other retro mini consoles. The quality of the games isn't as good, the inclusion of PAL games for the US is puzzling, and the first generation 3D graphics just don't hold up as well as the 8 and 16 bit, 2D sprites. The original price was too high, but at the steep discount it's currently at, it's worth a buy. The controllers can be used for retro gaming on your PC or Mac, and the console itself can be modified to greatly enhance your experience.

Sony didn't make a great classic console with the game lineup to start. The games that are on the console won't even play properly unless You attempt to reconfigure settings which You maybe able to do after wstching a YouTube video. Overall this could have been a huge hit for PlayStation fans and bring new customers. Sony should revamp this and give the consumers the games on a machine that will play them. The Price Point was initially $99 so that was another let down for many people.

The build quality is great. You get two controllers. The controllers feel just like the original non Dualshock controllers. If Sony wouldn’t have loaded the European 50hz pal roms on this device it would have gotten a 5 star review. Also would have been cool if they gave us scanline options. There are at least three simple ways to hack this device to access the emulator menu and even add your own games. I don’t know if the average user is up for this but if you do all of these shortcomings go away.

As a nostalgia piece, it serves it's purpose. If you're looking for something more than a showpiece, we've clearly reached the limit of what cheap emulation devices can do. It's perfectly functional but does not run the more advanced games at a very playable frame rate. If you want a cheap way to legally own a few old PS games to play for a few minutes before turning it into a decoration, it's fine. If you're looking to really replay some old Playstation games, there are better options.
