This is my first mini bluetooth speaker and I didn't know what to expect. I know that I am a Sony fan and their products are really great so I decided on Sony especially after reading the great reviews. This is only like 6 inches but the sound is amazing and has nice bass. 20W is a lot of power from such a small speaker. It has more watts than my hunky 17W boombox that I was using. When I play tennis, I bring this speaker and my phone. The bluetooth always works perfectly. Oddly, the music actually plays louder when connected to bluetooth over the audio cable. Rechargeable battery lasts about 7 hours. If you blast it, it is gonna be less time. I would recommend this speaker.

I bought this speaker on sale for I believe $60 because it was being discontinued by Sony. It was a little bass-y sounding, but for it being half-price, it was worth it.

Hi all,
This unit is replacing my stolen Logitech UE mobile boombox ( the really little black one, on sale for $80 ). It was a fantastic speaker, and one of the best values for the money in the whole store. They were out of the black ones, and I don't want purple and lime, so I needed something else.
I take the unit to work, so it needs to be slightly rugged. A rubbery outer coating is a plus. A strong grille is a requirement. It must be BT. It must have decent sound ( I understand what I should be getting at this price point ). I prefer black, or some other dark color. No lights, charging ports, or any other such gimmickry. Just a good, rugged, speaker.
I checked out the really nice JBL Charge, the Bose SoundLink, the Ultimate Ears Boom, the JBL Pulse, and the Beats Pill. The JBL Charge is very bright, but they want an extra $50 for a USB charging port. The sound is exactly the same as the $79 Flip 2. Nope. The Bose sounds like a 5 speaker system! It fills the whole room with sound. Great, but still a little lacking on bass. At the $199 price point, it's a little more than my budget. The JBL Pulse has good sound, but I don't need or want the lightshow. More gimmickry that is an attempt to distract me from sound quality. Again, $199 is out of range anyway. Then the Beats Pill. The display unit wasn't working, but $199 is still too high. The Ultimate Ears Boom, which is the newer, bigger brother to the UE boombox I am replacing, wasn't working either. But, again, $199, so it didn't matter.
Sony had four selections. The SRS-X2, X3, X5, & X7. The X2 was initially the one I wanted to listen to, but it too wasn't working. For just a few more bucks was the X3. Very nice! It stands almost toe to toe with the Bose. Not quite as loud, or as bright, but the bass response is better. The X5, which has a dedicated mid-range speaker, is the best sounding unit in the entire portable speaker section. Including being better than the Bose. But, at $199, it too is out of range. The X5 has much better button build quality, fantastic sound, and not too big of a size.
The X3 has been in use with me for about 3 weeks. It had tall shoes to fill after my Logitech. It has performed wonderfully! The bass response is a bit much for spoken word, or really old songs, so there is a "sound mode" button on the unit, which reduces the bass and allows the audio to be much brighter. It great if you're listening to talk radio, morning shows, the news, etc. It works well for classical music too. When not in "sound mode," the bass response is nothing short of magical, for a speaker of it's size and class. Put it in something, like an ice chest, or an empty cabinet, to really get it to resonate. It's quite loud, at least in the empty buildings I work in. I haven't yet been able to turn it up all the way. I have not tested it at a noisy place like the pool or beach.
The box has no information on it, so don't even bother. There are no brochures, nothing on the website, and the manual is useless. It's almost as if Sony is trying not to sell any of this line of speakers. All the models are like this.
The Bluetooth response is good, and it doesn't get fuzzy if you go to the next room. The range is just a bit less than my Logitech, but it's still good at about 35ft. I haven't seen a way to rename it, so you're stuck with Sony:SRS-X3.
The charging light is on top with the buttons. It doesn't appear to change color with the amount of charge, so you're stuck with an amber light. It goes out when the unit is fully charged. The unit charges with a micro USB, so your phone charger can also be used on the speaker. There is also a white power light, just above the power button. All buttons are on top, and are covered with a rubbery membrane.
The phone speaker can be toggled from the unit. The button has a picture of a telephone handset on it.
Lastly, there is also a 3mm AUX jack in the back, next to the USB port. And a little Reset hole, where you put a paper clip if the unit is responding to a full moon.
It's been a good purchase so far (only 3 weeks as of this review). It's a good value for the money. Make that a great value for the money. If you're considering this unit, and you don't want to pay $199 for the next class, this unit is excellent.

I do a lot of traveling and bought this so I could listen to music in my hotel room. It's about the size of a brick and takes up very little room in my luggage but the sound this thing puts out is no joke. I use it pretty often and haven't had any problems with it not being loud enough. In a side by side comparisons with my Bose SLIII the Bose wins, hands down. On the other hand the Sony didn't cost me an arm and a leg. I definitely recommend.

I have owned several $40-50 portable Bluetooth speakers and this one vastly out performs them. I got my unit on a large sale, so it was about $70 plus tax and has been worth every cent of it. The sound is good and the Bluetooth range is exceptional. I was able to remain connected to the speaker through several brick walls, down a flight of stairs with a total distance of about 30-35m before it disconnected. The speaker looks nice and is easy to put about anywhere without being an eyesore. Like I said, this speaker has far surpassed my expectations. It may not be the best sound that one can get from a Bluetooth speaker (the sound is very good though) but at the sale price I got it at it was a steal.

Nice balanced sound, decent bass for its size. Feels solid and has excellent battery life. Best for background music in a small space. Not gonna serve as your primary, critical listening system, unless you don't care about full sound...

Sound quality is excellent - great job Sony. It is perfect for indoor or outdoor use. It pairs easily via NFC or bluetooth. I especially like the feature of being able to answer phone calls on this device. Battery life has been much better than anticipated. Volume buttons on speaker are convenient. It is a little heavy but that is to be expected when you have great speakers. You need to grab this while it is still on sale at basically half-price. Oh by the way, I bought 3 of these. Keeping one and gifting the other 2.

I personally think it's alot better than beats pill, and the Bose for the price. Last 8hrs for me and sound quality is pretty good and pretty loud for such a small speaker. And it doesn't take up alot of space wherever you put it.

This little SONY speaker has a great bass line, and the sound is amazing. It's not a bose sound link mini but then again, this speaker costs 1/3 of the price. More than enough for one bedroom or small room.

I bought this a month ago and I'm very happy with it. The sound is very good for a small speaker. I use it in my room for both music and NPR and the sound is clear with good bass. Setup is easy and the Bluetooth range is better than I expected based on other Bluetooth devices I own. I looked at several other brands and read many reviews before I bought this, and so when this model went on sale I jumped at the chance.

Sound quality is sufficient for how I use it and for the price I paid. It is small enough to be portable, and does not need to be plugged in to use, so can take it outside. I would purchase it again.

Boasting a modest 20 watts, phenomenal sound! Sony is a mark of innovative, electronics', quality. Especially the design features of: portability; small size, light weight, and pairs with ease and reliability. It is primarily used to enhance the ambience in my home office, however it has also proven road worthy.

I was about to buy one of the daily deals speakers and decided to check what else was available and found this one on sale for $59.99 I liked that it had twice the wattage of the daily deal speaker. I have found it to have good sound and good battery life. Easy to use with no problems hooking up via blue tooth. I use it a lot. I am very happy that I purchased this speaker.

I originally purchased this item because of the sale. I realized it was worth every dollar with its ease of operation. The wireless operation for streaming music was easy to set up and even found NFC pairing was a surprise and find it a nice feature. It holds a charge for all day playing. I was also surprised about the Bluetooth operation for talking on the phone.

I also have the Sony SX5 and got this as it is a little smaller. Sound nearly the same as the SX5. After listening to many others in the store I believe the Sonys are still the best and on sale, a great buy. More than loud enough and real good bass. you will not be disappointed if you buy one.

I have an IPod dock but it is pretty big. A coworker has a little one made by Bose and I was envious. I saw this Sony on sale and decided to get it. It sounds great, is very portable and the Bluetooth works great more than 30 feet away. It was easy to setup and has my phone and my Itouch both saved to it. Now I carry this little speaker with me all the time.

I live in a small apartment and this does a great job of filling up the place with broad range sound. I am very impressed with the size, the battery life, and the quality of sound for the price! Took this on a ski trip and it didn't do so well in the high ceilinged lodge we were staying in, but for small intimate spaces, this thing works wonderfully!

This is a great compact wireless speaker unit. It is a little smaller than a brick and weighs about the same. Built very solid, nothing rattles or moves around and it produces great sound. East to pair with any Bluetooth unit and the lithium battery lasts for hours.
