I had been looking into buying a wireless Bluetooth speaker for the longest time. I was particularly interested in the UE megaboom and was pretty sold because of its loudness and 360 sound. Upon further investigation I found the demo for this speaker in the store was pretty terrible, but after hooking my device to the speaker and testing its capabilities, I was immediately sold on this product. Much better quality than the megaboom and half the price. It has left and right capabilities if you buy two of them and it is reasonably priced. Battery lasts a long time. I always have the volume on the speaker turned all the way up so I have more power to control it with my phone/computer/tv, and it still lasts about as long as advertised. Very simple to use and has NFC capability although I have never used it. Mainly just Bluetooth and aux. For $150 I would rate this 5 stars. Definitely has been worth the money I spent on it.
Some downsides
-First down side is that the charging port is not a micro usb so you have to bring along a extra charger that is specific to the speaker if you are bringing it with you.
-Mic for Bluetooth communication is worthless. Why you would want to use this to try and talk with someone through your speaker is probably the stupidest feature of the product.
-No external app for the phone to better utilize the speaker. I really think Sony should beginning developing a user friendly app for their speakers like the UE products have. I think that would greatly improve the overall quality of their product.

A surprise hit for Sony

My wife was looking for a bluetooth speaker with speakerphone capabilities for her craft room. My wife always says Bose are the best. I talked her into listening to other bluetooth speaker before buying. The BestBuy employee was there to demonstrate the various speakers using his iPhone. The Bose, Beats, JBL and the other speakers were good, but the clarity of Sony surprised us. We could hear instruments and voices more clearly than others. Sure a lot of other bluetooth speakers have bigger bass sound, but they are not as clear as this Sony SRSX55.
We placed in the Sony SRSX55 in her craft room. It sound wonderful.
I also found out that you can pair another Sony SRSX55 with ours to get 2 channel stereo sound. Now for the other features, the NFC ability had our Sony paired to her iPhone 6 in less than 10 seconds. The speakerphone was clear on both ends of the conversation.
We love this speaker. I want one for my garage, hint hint to the wife. WARNING, don't listen to the demo modes that are proved by the speaker's manufactures. Bose and Beat sounded the best with their demos but when we used my wife's and the BestBuy employee iPhones, they sounded muffed and a little flat compared to their demos. Use your bluetooth or 3.5mm hook up to hear how your device will sound on the speakers. Plus Sony demo audio needs to be up dated. They won't sell speakers with that demo. Thank God for the BestBuy employee recommending to use bluetooth or 3.5mm plug.

This is one solid speaker. A truly excellent sounding unit with great bass. All types of music sound fantastic. I spent a couple of days reading reviews on a number of portable speakers including the Bose Soundlink III and the Sony SRS X55. After visiting the store and putting my final choices to the test with my music, the Sony was clearly the superior speaker. The volume has enough power for filling a room or working in the back yard. Battery lasts as stated and charges pretty fast. The price is one of the best values, less than others in its class and the speaker will exceed your expectations I'm sure.

Really every bit as good as the Bose speaker system. Both were on display at the store along with many others there we tried. Conected and played same music back and forth between the two and all others on display for demo. High and low volumes, symphony, rock, voice, instrument. This one is the same / better / indistinguishable from Bose. However this one is 1/2 the price. Very happy with quality of sound coming out, conectivity, and overall design and function. Big clear sound from little device. Really impressed! Worth every penny!

I want to start by saying that I love the sound. It's plenty loud for my needs (mostly outside use), good battery life, and visually pleasing. I do really like the speaker, and do not regret the purchase at all.
That said, it could do with one or two additional features, namely track skip buttons, and a lock button.
I spent a lot of time researching this, and even visited a store or two to play with it a bit before purchasing it.no clue how I missed that it doesn't have the ability to skip a track. If I raise and lower the volume on the speaker, it's really just changing the volume on my phone, so a fwd/rev track buttons seems like an easy add. I tend to use mine with the phone plugged in, inside the house, and the speaker with me out side on the porch, so it sucks that I have to keep the phone with me. Seems to defeat the idea of wireless Bluetooth connections....
To be fair, I debated between the Sony and th Bose and found that even the more expensive Bose didn't have that feature...but really they both should.
The other feature missing is a lock button. I say that because all the control buttons are touch (except power with is a physical button) so if you pick the speaker up to move from room to room or location to location, it's easy to touch a button and break pairing or something else. A lock bottom would make that less likely to happen.
As I said. Very happy with the speaker. Hopefully they add it in the next revision, but if not, it's still an excellent deal, and I'd still recommend it to a friend with similar needs.

I just got this speaker at 40% cheaper from MSRP. So it's over a year old compared to some of the newer models. I've been listening to music from my iPhone 6 Plus over the past two days. Overall, I'm pleased with the quality of sound that it delivers ---in one word balanced. For a bluetooth speaker it performs well, room-filling, balanced brights and lows, and decent battery life (~6 hrs in my hands). It's reasonably portable (size and weight) in a backpack. The best part was the discounted price. Highly recommended.

I was looking for a portable speaker with reasonable sound level, great bass, and no distortion at high levels. After testing other speakers, this one was the best and I didn't have to over pay for a Bose system to get the same quality. It's a very high quality speaker. I like the fact that it connects automatically to my phone when I turn it on, so I don't have to manually connect from my phone. The speaker phone also works well. I am very happy with my purchase.

I would say if you don't want to break the bank to get the expensive/bulky JBL speaker get this Sony one. The Sony srsx55 speaker sounds the best out of all the speakers Best Buy sells for under a hundred and fifty bucks and better than some over a hundred and fifty bucks. It's pretty loud, super clear and great bass for it size. Plus it's small enough to toss in your bag for vacations or weekend trips.

Absolutely love this speaker. My husband got it for me for Christmas, and it is more than I would have expected. Great sound, love that it stays charged a long time, and easy to hook up my Ipad or my daughters phones when we want to listen to our music better.

I bought this as a gift for my wife. She now uses this instead of the big stereo system at home. Just turn it on and your tunes go right to it! It has deep, rich bass, and crisp highs. Sounds great. Excellent battery life. Easy to use.

I tested this SONY portable speaker in the BestBuy store and compared it to an equivalent BOSE model for exactly twice the price ($300). I liked the sound of the SONY speaker much more than the BOSE's sound - the sound is much fuller and has much more bass to it.
Plus, the SONY speaker has NFC and a hands-free feature. When listening to music using this speaker via your smartphone and receiving a call, you can simply answer the call using either your smartphone or a button on the speaker itself which is very convenient. In fact, I take most of my calls using this speaker nowadays when I'm at home. And it doesn't just work for regular calls but also for Skype/GoogleHangouts!
I've never managed to run out of battery so far so the battery capacity seems to be decent as well.

Always liked Sony products. This unit sounded much more EQ balanced in the store compared with other bass heavy alternatives. Still has a very nice low end. One touch pairing made for super easy set up.

This speaker turned out to be exactly what I needed. The bluetooth range by direct sight was twice what I thought i could get. It's just portable enough to meet my needs. Easy to fit in a small bag. Only complaint I have are the control buttons. In a dim light, you cannot see the black on black button markings where you need to push. The sound is great for the size of the speaker.

I was thinking of buying a portable speaker that had good sound and decent bass and glad i found it with this Sony speaker. Compared to other speakers in the market in there level I take this one any day because has good quality sound for under $200, even when you put voume all the way up it still sounds good. The only thing they must improve is batterry life since i only get about 5 hours average.

Braven Balance nonfunctional out of the box would not Bluetooth pair and played static, not music when hard connected with mini audio cable. I returned it and purchased a Sony Portable Bluetooth Speaker Black SRSX55BLK. It paired with my Surface Pro 3 within 5 seconds and had excellent sound. Comparing sound between the two store demo units, the Sony had much more clarity and range, the Braven had more bass but it was muddy and annoyingly reverbatory.

I checked out all the speakers available and found this is the most affordable, good sound quality, that you are able to plug in a USB to charge your phone. That is what caught my attention. I also love that you can answer the phone and use the speaker as a speakerphone to listen to and speak to your callers.

Thought I wanted the Bose version, but the Sony salesman happened to be there and had me listen to the speaker. The sound was really good at a fraction of the cost of the Bose one. And it will allow you to make conference calls with it - bonus!
