Great Quality Headphones

Having bought the over ear version about a year ago I was not surprised that they are a great headphone and have really good all around sound. The noise canceling is also really good considering they are not over the ear, something i would have to chaulk up to the foam like padding they have instead of rubber. 100% would recomend this product.

Not bad, buy not a huge upgrade over the XM4's

Definitely seems like they are a little more refined than the XM4's, but, I'm not sure it's enough of a jump to warrant purchasing these if you already have a perfectly good pair of XM4's to use.

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I tried several different brands which include Bose, Sony, Apple, Jabra… I was looking forward to the Sony’s, but I felt they fell short. NC auto on/off switching gets a bit annoying (cough, sneeze, yawn, etc. triggers it). Noise cancellation could be better (I feel the iPod Pro’s did a better job). I even switched out the ear tips for some Comfy foam ones (did the same for the iPod Pro’s). Didn’t help. Thought maybe it’s something else, until I took a flight and thought the NC wasn’t turned on (it was). Sound wise, I do enjoy a bit more bass than the Apple’s. A nice part is, I’m able to sleep better with these than the Apple ones. I think the stem hits the pillows. Getting them out of the case is sketchy as it feels like you could drop them (they seem more slippery due to the gloss surface). Pretty slippery when trying to get them out versus the Apple, Bose or Jabra. Changing the volume by clicking 4 times is basically useless. One last thing, you have to ensure the earbuds seat completely in the case, or it won’t charge. So, even though it’s magnetic I still have to add slight pressure until the light starts blinking.

I tried the Bose and disagree with those who say the ANC is better on Bose. I think the foam earpads add passive NC that puts this above other options including the Google Buds Pro with added foam pads. Sound quality is the best. I get feedback that the mic isnt the best but i live in NYC where noise is everywhere and everyone complains regardless of what earbuds im on.

RANDOM CONNECTION

I got these because I loved the noise canceling on the 4’s and was looking forward to the upgrades and smaller design. These headphones sound great but I give 2 stars because they won’t stop connecting to my phone when I’m not using them. They’re in my backpack in another room and they connect to my phone. They’ll be in my pocket (in the case of course) and they’ll connect to my phone. It is so annoying that I really just want to get a different pair of headphones. I’m at the point where I don’t care how good they are, they won’t stop pairing when they’re in the case. The XM4’s have done it a handful of times but these. ALL THE TIME!!!! I am so frustrated with these.

We're glad that you like the sound quality of the headphones. It's unfortunate that you are having connectivity issues. For optimum performance, make sure that the software version of the headphones is up-to-date (via the Sony Headphones Connect app). Check that both earbuds are placed correctly on the charging case. Each headset unit will be set to the correct position in the charging case by the built-in magnet. Resetting and initializing the headset may also help resolve those issues. $300 for this?

I paid $300 for these earbuds and they constantly have issues. The microphone will randomly stop working or will sound really muffled. The earbud tips fell apart after a couple months. The software to control the earbuds has ads when you open it. The "customizable" touch sensors are not truly customizable. Jabra and SkullCandy do a far better job with their software. The ANC is really good and the overall sound is great but not worth the price. Bottom line: Save you money and get something cheaper.

As for the earbud tips, the earbud tips deteriorate through long-term use and storage. If the earbud tips deteriorate, they cannot achieve proper sound qualities or noise canceling effects. If the earbud tips are damaged and need replacing, please contact your nearest Sony dealer. You can also obtain replacement accessories from Sony Parts and Accessories website.
