After testing these headphones for about two weeks, here are the only reasons to consider upgrading from the XM5s to the XM6s: 1. Portability: If portability matters to you day-to-day, the XM6s are a clear step up. They’re foldable—unlike the XM5s—which makes them easier to store and carry. The new magnetic carrying case is smaller and more travel-friendly. Being foldable also means they can lay flat around your neck, something the XM5s can’t do. 2. Build Quality: The XM6s feel noticeably more premium and durable. They have a heavier, more solid build that suggests better long-term sturdiness. That said, I actually find the lighter design of the XM5s more comfortable for long listening sessions. The XM6s, while better built, are definitely more noticeable on your head over time. That’s it. Those are the only two reasons I’d recommend making the switch. If you’re wondering why I’m not listing sound quality, noise cancellation, or other features—it’s because the differences just don’t justify the $450 price tag. Yes, the XM6s offer slightly better sound clarity and improved noise cancellation, but the improvements are marginal. In fact, I sometimes prefer the warmer, deeper bass of the XM5s. The XM6s lean more toward a sharper, punchier bass, which may or may not be your preference. At the end of the day, unless portability or build quality are major priorities for you, the upgrade simply isn’t worth it. Hope this helps.

The headphones are good. Ive had the 1st gens to the WH1000XM5 before this. What I found most impressive is BB last mile delivery. I purchased on a Saturday night and my order was at my door by a gig-economy style driver by 2pm est that monday. They use a UPS service called Roadie and it’s impressive. I’m not saying BB is a better conglomerate than Amazon - but for this use case - I am. Now to the ear cones; the headphones case is way better. I travel a lot and mostly keep the cans on my neck through the flight process but its better than the MX5. They updated the app, no doubt for this gen of the hardware, but its got better UI/UX. The actual hardware is very similar but it does fit my fat watermelon head better than the 5’s did. Otherwise, connectivity has been better so far, but ive only had <12hrs. Im mainly impressed with BB and using UPS to get my package here in <1 business day — and we live in the sticks. Cheers.

The new 1000XM6 headphones by Sony are very sleek. They feature some new features this year over previous versions. The headphones come with a carrying case that closes with a magnetic hatch that closes with ease. I have taken a picture of the carrying case. There are several software options in the X6 like dynamic noise cancelling depending where you are. Sony took this a step further by implementing gps too. They use an example in the booklet showing how the headphones will get louder or quieter depending on location like a bus stop or sitting in your room. I’m not sure I am the biggest fan. I kind of equate it to how cars are slowly being taken over with similar software, but to avoid accidents. I personally find that I like to pick a setting and keep it that way until I consciously decide something else. The headphones come in 3 colors: white, black & blue. I have the blue variant myself. I can say it is a dark navy type color that if seen in certain lighting, looks black. As I stated earlier, I have had these Sony headphones before, the XM4. I loved how those felt over my ears. The 1000XM6 unfortunately doesn't feel as comfortable. The way the sides come down on the head and ear tend to feel just a bit awkward. First few times I put on the headphones, I had to repeatedly check if they were on the correct side. Compared to the XM4, when you put them on, you can tell immediately if they are on correctly or not. If you are happy with your current set, I wouldn’t honestly suggest buying these. At over $400+, the price is not cheap. Also, there is no IP67 here, in fact the booklet shows not to get them wet with spilled water for example, so keep this in mind. + Feels very sleek in the hand + Noise cancelling - Feels awkward putting on - No IP rating

I love these headphones! I have used both Apple and Beats products, and these are by far the best performing headphones I've experienced! I love that you can customize your listening preferences within the app. I have a few different settings for music, audiobooks, and gameplay. I love music, and I feel like I'm truly hearing the artist's vision and creative craft for the first time with these headphones. The battery life is really surprising too! I have only charged them once since purchasing and listen with them daily. I also wear glasses and these are some of the only headphones that sit comfortably on my ears and don't pinch my glasses or make my ears sore after hours of use.

They fit great, pretty light and not suffocating to my ears. The only thing I miss about my previous headphones is the Apple ecosystem by switching from device to device seamlessly, these arent as seamless but pairing them isn’t overly difficult. They’re not cheap but if audio quality is something you’re looking for, they’re absolutely worth it!

After just one day with the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones, I can already say I’m in love. These are some of the best headphones I’ve ever used, and I’ve already tested them out with music, a Zoom call, and a round of Call of Duty. I’ve got a trip coming up next week, and I’m actually excited to travel just to see how well these things perform in the air. Right out of the box, the sound quality blew me away. I listen to a lot of instrumental, acoustic, and vocal-heavy music when I’m working, and these headphones make everything sound super clean and clear. For example, I was listening to “Almost Home” from Gary Louris’s new album and the guitar in that song has this really warm and natural sound—like someone’s playing it right in front of you. You can even hear little things like the strings buzzing or fingers sliding which I never noticed before. His voice comes through really smooth and personal, not buried or too sharp. I messed with the EQ for a bit and while the “Heavy” bass setting is fun, I honestly think the default setting sounds the best. These headphones just seem to get it right on their own. I also tried out the “Background Music” mode, and it’s actually a neat feature. It sort of pushes the music into the background so you can focus without needing to turn it all the way off—great for when you're writing or replying to emails. They’re also super comfortable. They’re light on the head, and even though I have bigger ears and had to wiggle them into place a bit, they sit fine and I’ve worn them for hours without any soreness. The only minor thing is they sometimes slide down a little and rest closer to my jaw, which isn’t painful or anything—just a little annoying now and then. On my Zoom call, the voices sounded great and clear. I didn’t talk on the call myself (not really trying to be the guy in full cans on camera), but listening-wise, it was solid. Gaming wise, sound quality has never been my biggest priority, but I fired up some Call of Duty and could clearly hear footsteps sneaking up behind me. Definitely helped me stay alive longer than usual! (Which still wasn't long) Just the mechanics of using the headphones has been a great experience. The touch controls are fantastic. Best I’ve ever used. Big surface area, just the right amount of sensitivity. You don’t have to mash or guess—it just works. They even added a little nub on the left ear cup so you can tell which side is which without looking. Plus, the ANC and power buttons are shaped differently so you can feel the difference right away. That kind of attention to detail really shows. Overall, it's easy to see why the XM series flagships are always highly touted. Big win this year Sony!

I upgraded from the W4 to this model. I wouldn’t say that it’s vastly different but the changes they did make are appreciated. Love the noise cancelling. The new case and folding option. Battery life is fantastic. Build feels solid. I use this everyday for work and the gym. Connections between my iPhone pro max and Dell work laptop are seamless. The upgraded sound connect is good if you are into customization and tinkering with your electronics. The blue color does smudge up with fingerprints. That would be my only issue.

They’re good, very lightweight and comfortable for long time use. I am impressed with the sound quality. They hold charge very well, I am a college student and they last all day

This is my first pair of bluetooth headphones with noise cancellation I've purchased. I spent plenty of time watching reviews and comparisons of other bluetooth headsets with noise cancellation. Once I tried these on at my local Best Buy, I immediately could tell how much quieter the NCS was on this model compared to Bose and others on the market. Also comes with a beautiful carrying case and the battery seriously lasts forever in these things. I really love how you can also EQ how the headset sounds via the app that connects the device to your phone. You can also connect these headphones to multiple outputs at the same time (ie, my laptop and my phone) so I can seamlessly listen to anything on either device easily. Perfect purchase for those long flights. Will probably be using this pair for years to come.

These headphones check EVERY BOX. Comfort, Battery life, Ease of use, And of course Sound. Only one negative, they make my ears Sweat. But they are better insulated then the previous model. So no damage frome sweating.

I had a pair of XM5's and those were amazing. These are even better. Foldable design makes them more compact and easier to travel. Magnet clasp on carrying case is very nice. I guess i never realize the tine it took to zip and unzip the XM5's. Nice ease of use upgrade. The ANC and transparancy modes are even better than the XM5s. The head band and ear cups feel soft, comfortable and dont cause any discomfort even after a four hour listening session. Overall amazing. As for cons there is an ANC mike in the center of the inside earcups that protrudes out a bit. I am hoping as I wear the ear cups in, this will not cause discomfort. Price increase to $450 from $400 for the XM5's was not welcomed. But I guess the price of everything is going up price wise.

The Sony WH-1000XM6 are the best ANC headphones I’ve used, great sound, top-tier noise cancellation, excellent call quality, and solid 30-hour battery life. They’re comfortable, foldable, and packed with smart features. Pricey, but worth it.

Excellent upgrade , even if coming from a the XM5s. I use these all day at the office for Teams and Zoom calls and the battery life is great! The sound quality is excellent. My coworkers mentioned I sounded robotic when I walked away downstairs to the kitchen, about 40+ feet away, which is expected. But I was still connected and could hear them fine. When I'm within the appropriate BT range, I have zero issues with them. The noise cancellation is 2nd to none! One minor complaint, be careful when removing them from the carry case and unfolding them. When I first opened them, I got pinched on the finger and it's a pretty sharp pinch. I am glad they fold again, as the carry case is smaller. I also use them with an External DAC for Qobuz FLAC audio. I have a Dense Audio DAC and they sound even better when using that 3.5mm hard wired cable to the DAC.

I found these amazingly comfortable and extremely effective at reducing airplane noise. The battery life is phenomenal as well. If I had to pick at anything, it’s the case that I’m not fond of. While I’m happy it’s there as competitors don’t include one, you have to contort the headphones to get them in the case. And if they are not placed in the case perfectly the case won’t close but again I am nitpicking.

I came from the Airpods Max and couldnt be happier. The AirPods Max never felt like the best-in-class in either ANC or sound quality generally. I was holding off on the XM5 until the XM6 and ended up trading in the AirPods Max. The build quality on these is wonderful and they are much lighter than the Max. Sound quality is another level and the ANC is amazing. They are also much more comfortable to wear than the Max. The travel case is also excellent. I haven’t played around with the accompanying app much but it looks like it has some cool features. Really happy with my purchase!

First time trying a WH-1000XM series headphone and these XM6’s are awesome! The ANC and Transparency modes are top level. With ANC the world around you disappears and with Transparency mode you can hear birds chirping and cars approaching while walking your dog. Sony really out did themselves with these 2 feature. Comfort level is also top notch, I can wear these for hours no problem. The battery life is excellent, up to 30 hours with ANC features turned on. And the sound quality is superb, you can even have a custom EQ with a 10-band slider to get the exact sound you want.

Phenomenal sound clarity; a clear step up even from the XM5s I currently own. ANC is basically unparalleled at this point. When on, entire world is basically on mute (especially while music is playing). Comfort level is great, even if the clamping is a bit stronger than the xm5. Owned a pair of airpods max for a few years, and let me just say as an iphone user, the xm6s blow them out of the water in so many categories that matter most (sound, comfort, portability, ANC). These are by far the best headphones I’ve ever worn and it’s not even close.
