I think this is the best season! Great DVD collection.

I had wanted this item for some time and was on sale to promote the new feature film.

I have always like the original Star Trek and enjoy the behind the scenes and extras of the set.

I grew up watching Star Trek re-runs for years and remember how excited and thrilled I was when Paramount brought the first Star Trek movie to the big screen. I was thoroughly schooled in the Star Trek universe after watching so many original series Trek TV shows in black and white and then in grainy color. I clearly remember how blown away I was with the opening scene of the first movie of three Klingon battle cruisers flying in formation. The original series is what started my fascination with science fiction and this DVD set has enhanced my nostalgia for the original series. It's like I'm watching the episodes for the first time. In a sense, I am, because the episodes have been digitally enhanced and have made an already entertaining series even more exciting. The shots of the Enterprise orbiting digitally enhanced planets, the CGI battle scenes and the beautiful manner in which the Enterprise is rendered is truly worth the price of this set. Some things haven't changed - the women's uniforms are still crazy short, the red-shirted security guards are still guaranteed to die at the beginning of most episodes and Captain Kirk still chases every female (alien or human). I will buy the other DVD sets of this series based on how much I've enjoyed this set.

I BOUGHT THIS ELSEWHERE FOR $100 NEW , BAD CALL . THIS PRICE AT $50 BUCKS IS TOPS . OVER THE YEARS I WATCHED STAR TREK ON TV , BUT WHEN THEY CAME OUT WITH THIS NEW DIGITAL VERISON . IT BLEW MY MIND . IN AMOCK TIME THE PUT IN NEW EFFECTS THAT SHOW THE PLANET VULCAN AS IT SHOULD . AND MY FAVORITE : THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE . ITS AWESOME TO WATCH HOW THE REDID THE C G I ON THE SPACE RUBBLE SMASHING AGAINST THE ENTERPRISES HULL . AND HOW THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE LOOKS A LIL BETTER THAN A SNOW CONE THIS TIME (lol). FOR THE PRICE , YOULL WONT EVER SEE IT THIS LOW , NEW ! SINCE IVE ALREADY HAVE THIS AND SEEN SOME OF THE FIRST SEASONS CLIPS ON A SITE , IIM BUYING THE FIRST SEASON AS WELL . IF YOUR A FAN DONT PASS THIS UP . IT ALSO GIVES THE YOUNGER GENERATION A INTEREST IN THE ORIGINAL SHOW , SINCE THE EFFECTS ARE UP TO TODAYS STANDARDS. NUFF SAID.............

It was fun to compare both the original footage with the digitally enhanced footage that was added to the new DVD series. With today's special effects and digital enhancements you have better well rounded episodes with plots that make better sense. The only difference between the original series and the enhanced series was the extraction of the real starship Enterprise that Gene Roddenberry had constructed with that of a computer version. Still fascinating to watch and compare with the original series. I highly recommend both the original series on DVD and the enhanced set.

This blu-ray collection is awesome. You get both versions of the series, original & the remastered version. What is really neat about it tho, is that you can switch between the two versions on the fly to compare scenes if you want. I can't recall if all of the extras are items that were all previously released on the two different dvd box sets that were released or not, but you do get a decent amount of extras. If you are on the fence about getting the blu-ray box set, then I say go for it. It's Trek and it's blu-ray.

I am truly enjoying the 2nd Season of Star Trek with its hiDEF picture and 7.1 DTS Master Audio soundtrack, it is truly an amazing remaster by CBS.. With that said, I have also noticed a drop in quality from Season 1 and according to the information I found in an old Star Trek Book, it was because of the Budget being cut in half. funding restraints requiring less to be spent on lighting and camera work, which definitely affects the overall quality of the visuals in this 2nd season. Even so, some of Star Treks TOS most memorable episodes are enclosed in this Blu-Ray Treasure box, as with the introduction of the newest crew member Pavel Chekov and Spocks Family members are first seen. Sound Quality remains about the same with an excellent 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio mix.. The Extra's are numerous and include Billy Blackburn's Treasured On the Set - Behind the sceen movies. If you are a Trekkie Fanatic, this 2nd Season is a must have!

Enhanced and original untouched episodes together with the ability to switch on the fly, looks beautiful for a restored old show, but it is not perfect. for the price, the extras included and everything a must have Trek purchase.

picture is brilliant,but audio disappears at times,very strange.has anyone else noticed this?
