Customers are saying

Customers are positive about the addicting gameplay, ease of use, and charming music and characters in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. Many appreciate the nostalgic elements and the quality-of-life improvements in this remake of a classic game. However, some customers are negative about the inconsistent controls and the absence of promised pre-order bonuses. A few also felt the game lacked sufficient content compared to other entries in the series.

Iv played harvest moon since GameCube games and I’m really excited they brought the new franchise to the switch! The game itself is really cute and the graphics really hit home with the nostalgia of the old games and I’m very excited to continue playing. I pre ordered my game to be picked up in store and received my little cow however I don’t think the other reviews are very fair in giving 1 star just because they didn’t receive the bonus item.

This is a fantastic game, just as the original was on the GBA. As a remake, it's good, though it does feel as though they could have done more. While graphically, it looks solid and they did go through the trouble of retranslating it and adding two new characters, they made the cardinal sin of taking content out, namely rival marriages. Furthermore, they actually made some of the content even MORE grindy than the original, and the original had some notoriously grindy optional parts.

I saw some people saying they didn’t get their plushie with their preorders which had me worried, but thankfully my order came with everything that it was supposed to! The plushie was super cute and has been added to my collection of HM/SOS plushies. The game is also so much fun! A great remake of an older harvest moon game. I can’t wait for more from this series!

Got this for my girlfriend and she absolutely loves it. Has become a pro farmer in no time. It’s a really great, chill time killer with endless amounts of gameplay. Awesome modern remake of Harvest Moon. Make no mistake about the title change, Story of Seasons IS Harvest Moon now. Don’t even bother with modern titles named Harvest Moon.

Had the original Gameboy Advance version and this remake totally fills that need for classic harvest moon. Some of the character redesigns took some time to getting used to, but still love all of them. Farming is of course the focus and there are ton of modern improvements that make this game fresh and still nostalgic!

I want to boost the review score of this game mainly because I feel giving it a score based on a pre order bonus that has nothing to do with gameplay is just going to hurt this series's sales. I've put about 110 hours into this game and I'm still going on my fourth year of farming. In between farming, raising livestock, winning festivals, and meeting and boosting relationships with the villagers I've always had something to do each day in the game. Quality of Life in this version is much better than the older titles as well. (Like watering your middle crop in a 3x3 plot) The music is incredibly redone from the original and will feel like you went back 20 years ago and played Back to Nature/Friends of Mineral Town on GBA, or Harvest Moon 64. Even if you get tired of the in-game music, you can eventually get records that will play previous some of the newer titles' music. Gameplay at the start didn't feel slow mainly because there is so much to do and the time is reflected from the old GBA game so it generally will fly by and you'll be cramming in content which can be a little stressful. There really isn't an end game type scenario for this so you can either enjoy farming or try to become a millionaire as fast as possible. You'll notice quickly that your little 16 by 16 turnip field has turned into a a magnitude of profitable strawberries which does feel rewarding in a sense. Coming onto the fourth year, after you get certain orbs and unlock fast travelling, I will say the game does slow down with how much you do a day. Festivals you miss out on or lose are always fun to revisit next year but often times these are the only things that I keep going for else I end my day at 1:00 PM in-game. Nature Sprites will also level up to the point to where they do most of the farming for you leaving you to mainly just taking care of livestock. They are crucial towards the end with a ton of crop but they can take the farming experience away especially when you end up with a field with only pineapple in which your little nature minions rake the cash for you as you play fetch with your penguin pet. That being said there are trophies in-game and rings which act as achievements that will keep you going as some of the requirements are pretty rough. For completionists you'll likely be putting hours into getting these, Events unfold each year especially as you can get married to a resident of your choice (minus a few such as Ellen the Grandma) and this leads to having a kid and enjoying an anniversary each year. Festivals are generally the best part of the game to me mainly due to the rewards and charm. They boost your live stocks' quality of product and even give you a stamina berry which will help a lot towards the end of your in-game day. A sense of pride comes in as your first year you won't be able to compete or win most of these but by the second year you can usually show the villagers' competing a true lesson in farming. The game does offer small things like a fetch mini-game, tons of cooking recipes, and a deep mine that is crucial to getting better tools. Fishing can be fun although I will say it is a little unsatisfying mainly due to the short amount of time in a day but still a nice completion time sink. My biggest complaints in the game would be the artstyle. It definitely isn't bad by any means. In fact I would really like it if it wasn't based on older character designs. That being said, I enjoy the older character designs better but I've gotten used to the new ones. It just has a more modern clean look to it. Another thing is that eventually the dialogue gets stale as you talk and give gifts to villagers each day. If you are trying to boost there relationship you'll find yourself running around each day with a handful of grapes since everyone in the town likes them and talking about the same thing over and over again until a relationship event shows up. Towards your end game this gets even worse to the point where you just don't even communicate with them anymore as you'll likely have maxed their relationship. I'm still putting more hours after reaching the 100 mark but the game is slowing down for me and days are shorter and shorter. Cleaning up festivals that I lost or raking in huge cash is mainly the goal for me even if it isn't really needed so my addiction is slowly dwindling down but I can safely say I got my money's worth out of this title. I haven't played many other newer farming sims such as Stardew Valley except for Rune Factory which is by the same people but as far as I can tell, Story of Seasons (Harvest Moon) will always be the original to me.

This is my first time playing a Harvest moon game, but i really like how the graphics look. Everything is very cute and colorful. The music that goes along with the game is also very soothing. I think my only con to this game is that everything goes really fast.

One of the several people who did not receive a cow plush as advertised, even though I ordered very early on back in May. Feels irresponsible to have a pictured bonus not only be contradictory with X-Seed's own preorder bonus listings, but also to make it pick-up in the middle of a pandemic where it's not convenient for me to access a Best Buy. Won't be returning because the game itself is a very fun and faithful remake and I was very excited to play, but if there's any way to still receive a plush in the mail I'm all for that.

This game is just what you expect from every Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons title (before they split). I still have the old version of this game and love how they've revamped some things, including graphics, for the Nintendo Switch version. All of the characters and animals are delightfully adorable, and it's a relaxing way to pass time. I don't remember some of the farm animals in the original game, so they might have added some? Either way, there's a lot of variety with your animals that you'll have fun loving them all. Story of Seasons never disappoints and I can't wait for the next one. Also, the strawberry cow I got for preordering is so cute that I might implode.

I'm an avid fan of Harvest Moon. So what I heard they had come out with a new game I was excited. However, it turns out the newest game for the Harvest Moon series is nothing like what it used to be. So I checked out story of seasons, this is where things get interesting. Where the new Harvest Moon deviates from their old Graphics, story of Seasons sticks true to them. It also sticks very closely to the old game mechanics from the old system such as the Game Boy Color and the Nintendo 64. Story of Seasons friends of Mineral Town is a remake of an older game but it still holds true to the Harvest Moon standard. I would greatly recommend this game over any new Harvest Moon game that is come out recently.

While not as complex as previous Story of Seasons that were on the Nintendo 3DS, this Switch version is more straight forward and basic for this series. I mean this in a very good way. I did not play the original of this game found on the GameBoy Advance, so I can't compare my review to that game; only to the other Story of Seasons games. The game is polished and quality of life improvements for the player are refined and improved over the 3DS predecessors of this series. I was wondering how the game would work on a single screen and it works beautifully. I highly recommend this game for fans of the old Harvest Moon games and Story of Seasons.

Too many features were removed from the original game, and not enough new features were added to replace them in this remake. The villagers recycle the same dialogue because there are no more rival marriages. Most of the dialogue is useless (it doesn't tell you likes/dislikes of villagers or secret game mechanics). You can't experiment with cooking recipes and the game only teaches you one per week in the first year (many of which you can't aquire the ingredients or cooking tools for in the first year). The cooking tools only become available to buy one at a time, two weeks apart. Also, way too many in-game-features are related to the number of gifts you give to the harvest goddess (you can only give her one gift per day and it takes like 30, 75, 100, or 150, gifts for some stuff). Most of the festivals and events are cut-scenes so you don't get to interact with anything (especailly in the first year). The farming is kinda useless because you make so little money off it (or maybe all the things in the game are just too expensive? It will take several in-game-years to afford soooo many features). There are also other annoying things in the gameplay and there are glitches (invisible walls and npc's that make your character get stuck). Basically, the game often feels empty because too much stuff was removed or spaced out really far with pay walls (you need over 1 million gold for some stuff and it take several in-game-years to earn that much gold even if you win the harvest goddess' lottery with "Van's Favorite" everyday). I would not recommend this game to anyone who doesn't already have nostalgia for it. It's cute and addicting, but it often feels more like busy work than fun (for reference, I have played over 60 hours, I don't mind grinding, but how am i still not close to done?!). This wasn't worth $30.

If you enjoy Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley, you will probably like this. Didn't know this was a re-release of a HM game personally, but it definitely felt like one. Very similar gameplay loop as in the previously mentioned games. Farm, play mini games, interact with townspeople, mine for ore...etc. If you are familiar with the genre, you probably know what to expect here. If you are a fan of the types of games, there is no reason you won't love this one too.

It’s a little different to other harvest moon games but the basic concept is the same. It’s really enjoyable to play and has cute graphics. The main difference in the gameplay is that you don’t have to put your animals away. They automatically do that. Also the relationship meter is a lot easier to understand. There are so many things that makes this game better. The mine is the only thing that I’m not really into. Now both the hoe and the hammer are used which gets rid of more energy faster. But you’ll really enjoy playing it if you liked the other harvest moon games
