Customers are saying

Customers appreciate the PlatinumPlus FlexPod Plus Tripod's functionality, however, many have noted concerns regarding its durability and leg stability. Several users reported instances of legs breaking or becoming damaged easily, even upon initial use. The inflexibility of the legs was also a common complaint. Overall, the product's structural integrity appears to be a significant point of customer dissatisfaction.

    Good idea, one weak point

Love the idea. Had it for a couple months. Worked great until I tried to make a last minute adjustment with my digital camera on it. The camera and swivel mount snapped off it my hand with the breaking point being between where the legs come together and where the swivel tightens. I am going to check into the warranty, but it may be cheaper or easier to buy a new one depending on shipping costs. I tried to super glue it, but it was just too small of a surface.

    this thing sucks...

it is hard to bend the legs, which is ok, but at the point where the legs connect to the mount it's very loose. it is very cheaply made, and i have had a very hard time getting it mount well in any position but just standing on it's 3 legs. the part that connects to the camera is not very sturdy, and wobbles easily. you can get something that works way better for about the same price.

    Poor design

I purchased this because of the great design and it would have given me a lot of flexibility for my digital camera. However, less than 17 hours of usage, 2 of the legs broke off just under the base where the camera would be mounted. The concept of this design is great, however, it needs to be made of some other flexible material instead of the aluminum that is wrapped in the outter plastic. I was tempted to exchange this for another one, but I think a traditional tripod (small tabletop type) will suite my purpose better. Again, this is a great design, but the flexible legs need to be made of a strong flexible material.

    Not good value

The tripod legs are not sufficiently flexible, so the tripod cannot be readily attached to stationary objects. The method of attaching the tripod to the device that screws into a camera give false security of a solid connection - when connection is apparent, there is no connection. Be careful using this turkey. Its not worth the price, and I wish I had not make the purchase.

    Poor construction and amazingly inflexible

I purchased this to make videos while cycling. The two most critical contact points, where the leg connects to the tripod and the legs themselves are connected with plastic. Couple that with the fact the legs are extremely inflexible, and the unit is easily broken. I have a larger Joby Gorillapod unit and should have stuck with my gut and purchased another smaller version. The quick release is indeed a very nice feature. In two uses a leg as broken off due to the plastic coupling at the top of the leg and one of the feet, again connected with plastic broke as well. My advice, go with another brand.

    Innovative idea for amateur photographers...

I purchased the Sunpak FlexPod in-store (without reading any of the reviews) for use with both a light weight digital camera and pocket camcorder. I would have also considered purchasing the small Joby gorillapod (for a few more $) had I known about it, and read all of the reviews. As other reviewers have indicated, the locking ball head release system does not tightly secure the camera to the tripod, so there is a small amount of "wobble" when the camera is attached - however, I am not really concerned that this tiny amount of movement will destroy my photographs/videos once the tripod is set in place, unless being used on a vibrating or unstable surface, or outdoors in extremely windy conditions. What the Sunpak FlexPod is: a useful, innovative tool for the casual, amateur photo/videographer who doesn't want to spend a lot of $ on equipment - i.e., you get exactly what you pay for... What the Sunpak FlexPod is NOT: an expensive tripod for heavy-duty, everyday use in producing professional quality photographs and videos - i.e., again, you get exactly what you pay for...

I picked up one of these today, and the top swivel part broke off as I was taking it out of the package... it was just a cheap plastic connection, so no way to fix it. Bummer! Will return it tomorrow...

    Broke in Minutes

One of my friends has a similar tripod and I was impressed with its utility enough that I purchased this one. Upon returning home I removed my exciting new tripod from its packaging, eager to test its flexible prowess. Yet as I opened its legs one of them simply fell off. I returned it for a refund the next day and decided to use a regular miniature tripod. I've recently discovered that there is another brand of these things. While it's $18 more, I have a feeling that it's more durable, especially considering how well my friend's faired. When I get the chance, I'm going to purchase it and see how it holds up.

    Good idea, poor product

Well, its broken now and in the trash, but I WAS able to put this (barely though) on the handlebars of my bycycle and I recorded a short video on my Sony Cyber-Shot. It handled it well, and the video is on my PS3. But I was bending the legs (gently) one night, and one broke. Didn't come off, but was limp, like an old action figure's leg. So after trying to bend a different angle, it came off. I think it's sellin for $10 at stores. Save your ten and add ten more and get another brands tripod, but beware legs still might break. I will be buying a more practical one soon.

    Replaced Three Times, Still Broken

This product is absolutely terrible. My first one broke before I could get it completely out of its packaging. Second one broke the first time I tried to move one of the legs. Third one broke before it could get out of the packaging as well. All three times it was a leg that came completely off. Avoid this product. Even if you can get it out of the box, it will break upon first use.

    Lost a part

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This pod is a nice idea but the part that you screw into the camera fit poorly on the camera, fit poorly in the pod, and fell off and got lost within minutes of stowing the first time I used it in the field. Best Buy was great about taking the return. Since I lost the part that fell off, upon return it was incomplete and they didn't really have to take it back at all.

    Take anywhere, ultra-light weight tripod

This tripod features a 'Double-Lock' quick-release mechanism that may not be fully considered by someone new to using tripods. But once figuring out how it works, the camera can be readily carried apart from the tripod while requiring only a moment for reconnection to the tripod. Indeed, the tripod should not be carried or transported with the camera attached. If not handled reasonably for its designed purpose, I am sure that the tripod's design will easily fail. | A one-year warranty requiring pre-paid (and insured) shipping to a NJ address will not be of interest to many who will shell out the equivalent of the price of 4 gallons of gas (or less) for this item. | Having owned it for only a few days, I fully expect that its design will continue to be serviceable for quite some time. | I find great utility in this item as my steadiness in holding the lighter than air digital camera is not so good. | And as my need for pictures is seldom other than with my wife and friends, I do like to be included in the picture. It is amazing how often a "knob" of some sort becomes available for use with this flexible tripod with its appendages that really can get a grip. | On sale at $18, it seems well worth the price. Like others, I purchased this tripod feeling good about the versatility of a tripod which can basically be mounted anywhere. However, after two uses one of the legs just broke off making the tripod useless. Don't waste your money on this poor quality product.

This item doesn't even deserve 1 star. The quick release mount "ballhead" is a joke. It wiggles around too much. The ballhead only pivots up or down in one spot which makes it difficult to level or frame a shot. You cannot mount the camera on the tripod without the the ballhead. The main leg connectors do not have enough tension on them to stay in place. Unlike other users have reported, I had no trouble tightly bending the legs back and forth.
