My son loves this game! It helps kids get their creative juices flowing. You can design levels in a ton of different ways. If you have a kid that's interested in creating video games, game design, engineering, then this game is for them.

It took me awhile to get use to gaming, since the switch is my very first console. At first I was very bad at this game. After a few months I’m finally making progress. It a fun game, would recommend.

After hearing all the hype about this game, I thought I’d check it out for myself. I did not play the original. So I didn’t know what to expect. There is a story mode you can start with, which has about 100 Nintendo-created levels that try all sorts of mechanics. I think if that was the whole game, I still would not be disappointed; but the user created content is where the longevity for this game is. Now I’m not a creative type, and I don’t think I could design a level of my own; but there are already a lot of creative, well-thought out levels available which shows me there will be a ton of content for a long time to enjoy.

Mario maker two expands and adds on to what made the first Mario maker so great. The ability to create your own levels is still intact with additional features such as the ability to add slopes and various other mechanisms to your levels. The new additions allow you to more closely create levels inspired by your favorite Mario games. Perhaps the best addition is the new single player story mode. Well there is not much story to this mode, it does come packed with 100 Nintendo made levels for you to complete and unlock. Perhaps the best edition is the new single player story mode. Well there is not much story to this mode, it does come packed with 100 Nintendo made levels for you to complete and unlock. For those that have been wanting a new to the Mario game in the vein of the old-school ones, this may be as close as we get for a while. I found the story mode fun and challenging.

Great game to foster kids imagination. Easy way for them to see the end result of their efforts creating worlds.

My 8 year old son loves to design Mario worlds and levels on Mario Maker. We just bought SMM2 and he loves it just as much. The second version includes 3D world, more maps, more enemies, and just overall more content. Also added is story mode that adds to the playability.

As a parent, I can honestly say Super Mario Maker 2 has been one of the best game purchases I’ve made for my kid. What started as “just another Mario game” quickly turned into something much more meaningful. Instead of simply playing levels, my child is building them—thinking through puzzles, experimenting with ideas, and learning how different game mechanics work together.

This is platforming madness in the best way possible. This game lets creativity run wild and puts the most seasoned players on edge due to the challenges this game provides. This is a must have on the Switch especially for those game nights with the new 4 player levels.

This game allows you to create your own stages to make Mario art. You can puzzle stages where you hunt for keys or search for the right path of pipes, action stages where you must fight enemies to unlock the goal, or speedrun stages where you hold the run button and forward on the Dpad and leave luck to heaven because you will have to guess when to jump. A great variety of stages will keep this game feeling like a challenge for years to come, however a 32 stage upload limit exists. On the offline side of things you can play story mode and take on stages to rebuild a castle with money from stages that have a hint with "job descriptions." The game easily earns it's $60 price tag with variety brought by the ingenuity from Mario fans around the world, and as long as you enjoy the 2D platforming from Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, New Super Mario Bros U, and a 2D version of Super Mario 3D World.

Its just the orignal game plus more options which is great. I miss not having the tablet to make stages but the wheels work fine. Even if you don't want to ever make a level I'd say its worth buying for all the hundreds of thousands of levels people make you can play.

Great story mode , easy to learn , lots of fun and the fact that you build your own levels and plays those built by others means there is no lack of new content . Hopefully future update brings amiibo function back from original other than that this game is great !

I have played and enjoyed so many Super Mario games over the years. Super Mario Maker 2 is no exception. It has combined classic Super Mario game play with the ability to create your own levels which for me is a dream come true.

My daughter loves this game. She beat all the other Mario games and had gotten bored with the levels, and when she found out that she could make her own levels, as many as she could dream up, she asked me to the key to the lockbox where we keep her savings and we went to the store to pick it up right then and there. She even cleaned up the bathroom to motivate me to go out for her. Did I mention she's only 6? But yeah, now she loves making ridiculous levels where Mario dies in cruel ways to hidden (but sometimes very obvious) traps. Blind jumps that end up in lava pits, spikes all over everything, levels full of dangerous fish. The glee on her face when someone tries one of her levels only to die a cheap and sudden death is charming. Did I mention she's only 6?

Love how this game has Super Mario 3 graphics to choose from and using Blue Toad as a character on top of that. Two of my most favorite things together, and able to build my own levels and maps. Kids in the family always ask to play this one.

First, why 4 stars? It loses the one star due to the fact that without an active Nintendo Switch Online membership, you lose out on much of what the game has to offer. h owever, those parts of the game (the online experience) are flawed, making it hard to justify a Nintendo Switch Online membership primarily for this game. With Nintendo Switch Online, you have access to other peoples' levels, which you can play or download. Some level-makers put in a serious amount of effort to create fun, classic experiences. The challenge is finding these levels, as it is a major challenge to create a well-designed level, and nearly as hard to unearth the ones that other people have made. The navigation and search functions when looking for levels are passable but could be better. The online multiplayer has (sometimes significant) lag problems and levels are chosen at random. It wasn't very compelling. There is a single-player campaign mode with over 100 levels from Nintendo. This is probably the part of Mario Maker 2 I have most enjoyed, as many of the levels were quite challenging; however, once I played through most (all but two) of those levels, I don't feel compelled to go back to them again. Creating levels is at once relatively easy but also requires more planning than I anticipated. Perhaps that is the part that I will come back to eventually, but the level of time investment it take to learn to make a good level is a barrier.

What a blast this game has been, story mode is short and sweet but full of great new level ideas. The online can be a bit laggy but it seems to be pretty random. Highly Recommended! as this game will keep giving you more and more for the next few years.

"Put in as simple a manner as possible, this is likely to be the last 2D Mario game you’ll need. It’s Super Mario Maker but with more of everything that made the original so phenomenal. Enemies, themes, game styles, gizmos, powerups, the Story Mode having an actual story, multiplayer, the list of additional gubbins is truly massive when you take a step back. There are a few small niggles here and there, but they're overwhelmingly dwarfed by the sheer joy and unbridled freedom that exceeds the original in spades. Realistically this game poses the question as to whether this is the future for 2D Mario as a whole. For any fan of Mario who owns a Switch – heck, for any Switch owner full stop – buying this game is an absolute necessity." http://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/nintendo-switch/super_mario_maker_2
