    Little Disappointing

I must say that I'm a bit disappointed with this TV. It's no one big thing I'm disappointed in, it's just a lot of little things that accumulate into my disappointment. I was very hesitant to buy an off brand I've never heard of before but to be honest the amazing reviews on here & youtube are what swayed me into giving it a go. I find myself wishing I had spent an additional $150-$200 for a Samsung TV. This is definitely a kids or guest room TV & I regret my purchase 100%. I've had a Roku streaming stick for the last 7 years so I know that it's not Roku...it's the poor TV design & navigation I dislike. Here are a few of the reasons I dislike this TV. SOUND: The sound is not great but there are several sound options that make a considerable difference! I use Theater as my default for watching TV & movies but I like to stream Spotify while I'm cleaning up around the house. The sound is TERRIBLE when you play music in theater or the default auto sound mode, so you have to switch it to Music mode...thing is, you can only access the TV settings to change the sound when you're watching TV. You can't even access it when you're on the main Roku Home screen or while in APP! It's very irritating. REMOTE: The remote is very finicky. It feels very cheap & low quality compared to my Roku streaming stick remote. 99% of the time, it takes clicking the power button two or three times before the TV will power down. You have to aim the remote DIRECTLY at the center of the TV in order for it to work. My old roku remote didn't require any pointing, it just worked...even while entangled under the blankets on the couch with me. No need to uncover it, & point. I was able to set up my Uverse Remote to the TV, thankfully. It's just as bad though, in regards to the power button. Which is how I know it's the TV. PICTURE: The picture quality looks great from far away...I do not have HD or anythihng like that with my cable but I did sign up for 4k UHD on Netflix just to test the picture quality. My aunt has a Samsung 4k Smart TV & the picture is impeccable! I tried out a few different movies in 4k UHD & again, it looks great far away but when you're up closer to the TV, it actually looks very very blurry. TV: The TV itself has three buttons on the underside in the center..but there is no designated power button! You can find your way to power down but you have to navigate to it. I've never owned a TV that doesn't have a designated power button & it's just so annoying.

      Hi SoHa,

Thank you for providing your feedback. We're sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your TV and that you were not able to see the same great picture quality a majority of our customers are seeing. We have glowing reviews on many professional reviewing sites and also from our customers. So it is a bit baffling to hear otherwise. We find that most of our customers are more than thrilled with the performance of our TV. You can also download the free Roku app on your smart phone or tablet to use with your TCL Roku TV. By using the app you can use voice search, voice control, and experience private listening. There is a dedicated power button located underneath the IR sensor on the bottom middle of the TV. We will continue to make improvements to ensure our customers the best experience possible. Happy viewing!

    Great Smart TV, Poor Picture

We opted for this TV after a lot of research and thousands of very positive and optimistic reviews. Plus, you can't beat the price on this thing. We were skeptical about going with a brand that was unfamiliar to us but decided it was worth a shot after so many positive reviews. Unfortunately we were severely let down. Unboxing and setting up this TV was a breeze. The Roku platform is very convenient and easy to use. Unfortunately, after we finally navigated through the menus to get to live TV and check out the picture, we were very disappointed. The picture on this television leaves a lot to be desired. Colors are dull, pictures are blurry and the refresh rate looks atrocious - watching live football was painful. We checked out multiple channels and multiple sources and agreed that this just wasn't the TV for us. It was boxed up and back in the store on the return shelf within 4 hours of the original purchase. We ended up going with a Samsung which was $50 more. The Samsung doesn't have nearly the smart capabilities of this TCL but we decided that picture was much more important to us. Spend the extra $50 on a Samsung or higher quality TV and hook it up to a Roku, Apple TV, FireTV or any other streaming device, you'll be a lot happier with your purchase.

    Problems with TCL/Roku TV

    Posted
    johnb

Bought a 55-inch TCL smart tv from Best Buy 1/12/2018. It behaved very well for a month or so. Then it started powering up with picture but no sound. The only solution was to go into Settings and do a "complete" factory reset. This restored the sound -- but it erased all Roku account information (email, password, etc.). All this info must re-entered from the Roku remote one character at a time (arrow keys to maneuver around an on-screen keypad) followed by a Roku log-in at a computer to get an activation code to finish the process. Silly stuff. The TCL tv is now forgetting audio several times a week, each episode requiring a factory reset. But I've switched Netflix access to a 12-year-old blu-ray player with an HDMI output. I canceled the Roku account to skip the aggravation. Who needs them, anyway? Obviously there are some software/firmware problems with this TCL tv. Likewise, the Roku remote is cheap and troublesome. A bad combination. Buying a tv? Keep looking. Buy something else.

    Beautiful TV... when it works

Bought this TV October 14, 2017. Beautiful picture, Roku built in is great, handles Xbox One X with no lag. Felt great with my purchase. Then December 27, 2017, POP.... TV dies. Contact TCL, troubleshoot with no luck. Wait a week for technician. Tech says powerboard was fried. Replace powerboard, turns on but no picture. Determines backlighting was fried too. Submits his findings to TCL reccomending replacement TV, we get called 24 hours later by TCL saying they are replacing it. Figure overnight me a new set, right? Nope, they send new TV to technician who then brings it to me and takes old one. In 7-10 business days. NOT IMPRESSED TCL! May be a lemon but if a TV dies after 2 and a half months I certainly expect quick and efficient replacement! Will not buy TCL again. Hard to beat the value but I will spend the extra money next time for a more reliable TV from a company who takes care of their customers.

    Backlight bleed

It's like russian roulette buying this TV. Either you get a good one or you don't. Mine had all kinds of backlight bleed which made it unwatchable. Where is the quality control with this company. The colors were good. Doesn't get very bright at all. Poor viewing angles. The TV hardware has an overall cheap feel to it. I wouldn't trust it to last more than a year. Buy at your own risk. I returned mine for a Sharp, a much better quality TV in every way.

Bought this tv because it was about $350. There was also a Samsung available at the time on sale for about $400. Both had the same specs on the box, so decided to try the TCL since it was cheaper. First of all, the color quality is HORRIBLE. It is far from true to natural color and couldn’t be adjusted properly. Also, the resolution quality was severely lacking, and couldn’t upscale the picture nearly as well as it should have. Also had issues with light spots on the screen. Long story short, we returned it and bought the Samsung nu6900 for $50 more and got a MUCH better TV and picture quality.

I picked this TV up for around $320, and I regret it. Settings are sparse and extremely limited -- you can set basic stuff up through the TV interface itself, while the remaining settings are only changeable through a phone app. My TV has a ton of edge bleeding, with dark splotches on the screen that change shape and location depending on how long it's been turned on. All four corners of the screen have dark blotches, and there are occasional horizontal lines that run up the screen for minutes at a time. On the plus side, the colors are gorgeous and the blacks are really black. Do not buy this TV. Do yourself a favor and save up a few bucks more for a better set.

The TV is very nice and the size for the price is great. It is great for gaming, but seems the internal components may not be of the greatest quality. TV worked for 10 months, but now turns on, but not display a picture at all. Currently going through TCL customer service, since it's still under warranty. I cannot recommend a TV that quits working within 10 months of service. However, I will revise this depending on my experience with their customer support.

When I first perchised the tv I was impressed with the size, picture quality, apps. About 4 months later the right side of the screen become extreamly dark, I wasn’t able to see words, pictures, movies because everything on the right side was dark. And the left side was bright. Thank God I had insurance on it and return the tv and went for a different brand this time. Very disappointed that this happened.

Bought is as a Gift for my father In law on His 90th Birthday and to replace their old DLP TV. If they were to rate this TV they probably will give it a 4 1/2 stars. I know they are very happy with it, though the picture quality is not as good as the leading BRANDS it is well worth your money !!! If I recall correctly it has 2 HDMI inputs and the set up was real easy .. The MENU is easy to navigate.

Pic is good enough. I cannot get the color adjusted properly and the skin of people on the TV looks orange and it is a little distracting. I contemplated for MONTHS about this TV. While the clarity of the picture is nice, the reliability is lacking. Exactly after one month of purchasing the TCL tv, the HDMI outlets malfunctioned for the DVD player. There was a loud buzzing noise and then the screen on the TV turned white. I tried all three outlets and had the same results. BTW, my DVD player is still working just fine.

It is a fine tv for the price, and the roku has never given any issues, but unfortunately I have found the picture quality very poor, especially since this is supposed to be 4k. my 720p Vizio has better picture quality. The blacks look more like grays, and if there is even a little glare/sunlight, it becomes more difficult to see.
