I purchased this set & it lasted only 1 year & 5 mos. The CVM on the TV went out and will cost $250 to fix. I did extensive research on this model and spent a great deal of money purchasing this set but TCL needs to improve their products to get my business in the future. I would recommend anyone to not buy their products

an unbelievable tv for the money

this is replacing a problematic Sony 4K tv that is only 2 years old that was nearly twice as expensive and honestly, this TCL blows it away in every possible way except for that it has less inputs... not a big deal. PROS: + the picture quality is unreal, the 72 zones of backlight provide true blacks and vivid whites. I haven't seen black levels this good in a non-plasma or OLED tv. at any price. + HDR10 and Dolby Vision support, these make a shockingly big difference. I was skeptical about HDR, but it looks amazing, and many of the built in Roku apps support it (Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube all have a fair amount of HDR content and it keeps growing) Also, many games on my Xbox One S and PS4 Pro support HDR and it makes a huge difference on lighting effects in games. This is maybe a bigger upgrade for me than the one from 1080p to 4K was, in my opinion. It's something that video and words don't do justice, you just have to experience it. + the RokuTV interface is the simplest, fastest and best smart tv interface i've used (a huge plus coming from an Android TV where basic things like the input selector would crash on me and it was generally slow and buggy) and has an enormous amount of content available. + extremely low input lag makes this the ultimate gaming tv. + PRICE. at the $599 I paid for it, I don't think I could find much better at double the price. I'd take an OLED over this, but those generally start around $1500ish. I was going to try to hold out with my Sony until I could afford an OLED, but this TCL has me more than satisfied. I'm continually blown away by it, especially for the money. I think BBY might be trying to bury this thing in stores just because it's such a great deal compared to everything else on their sales floor. When I went to buy mine, my local store had it in a corner and it was not turned on. I'm guessing possibly intentionally as to not steal sales from the much more expensive LG and Samsung sets that have gigantic ornate marketing displays on the floor. CONS: - sound quality is just okay, luckily I pass through from the optical out into a yamaha soundbar. the internal speakers are serviceable but nothing special (in comparison to the very special display) - only 3 HDMI inputs, this is probably not an issue for most people but I liked having all 3 current gen gaming consoles and an old PC hooked up at the same time. I keep PS4 in the first slot, Xbox in the second, and got an HDMI switcher for the 3rd. It's not ideal, but it works fine. - no component video in, only composite via a dongle. again, not a huge deal, but would have been nice to have. - not sure of TCL's track record for reliability/customer service - for the price i'm EXTREMELY satisfied with the set itself and considering I just had a Sony kick the bucket in under 2 years after being replaced once, I was willing to give a cheaper brand a shot and so far I'm extremely glad I did. that said, if something happens in a year, will TCL send a replacement to my house the way Sony did? I kind of have my doubts. Fingers crossed it will continue to work flawlessly and I won't have to worry about replacing this for quite a long time, though.

TV needs to be manually reset everytime to turn on. Motherboard issue right out of the box. TCL customer service is a nightmare. Best Buy won't stand behind their sale and just points to TCL. Would never buy from TCL again. Questioning whether to shop at BestBuy ever again.

This tv has a great picture until you watch fast moving sports such as basketball. The picture then skips frames. You miss half of what you are watching. obviously this was a best buy tv that was returned and then resold. They told me to bad when I tried to return it.

This is hands down the best value for a television available right now. It's a 4K set that supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision. I can confirm that HDR10 and Dolby Vision both work perfectly on this TV. The 4K picture is stunning. To get a comparable TV in terms of compatibility and picture quality, you'd have to spend about twice as much. CNET named this TV the "Best 55-inch non-OLED TV". The colors are vibrant and accurate. The contrast is exceptional thanks to 72 local dimming zones. I was able to stream a movie from my Macbook using the included Roku Media Player app (and a media server). The app also allows pictures and songs to be streamed, although I only tried a movie. There are too many apps available to mention. I have the TV connected to my A/V receiver via HDMI using the ARC port and have no problems with audio from apps (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) or from OTA broadcasts picked up with an antenna (yes, this TV has a tuner). The only drawback this TV has is its 60Hz native refresh rate (120Hz CMI). But to be honest, I don't particularly miss my 8000 series Samsung's motion interpolation and refresh rate of 120Hz (240 CMI). My biggest concern buying this TV was that I'd miss the 'soap opera effect' but, surprisingly, I don't miss it at all. You can read numerous reviews of this television on the net, the picture quality is excellent. The bottom line is this: unless you wanna drop around $1500 on an OLED, buy this television because you won't find one better!

First, the big difference between the p605 that BestBuy has and the p607 that others has is the remote. I just got the tv. The smartphone and tablet apps work just fine as an even better remote, and the app does have the ability to listen privately with headphones, along with other fun things the remote cannot do. So why pay the extra to get a remote with audio on it? On paper, the difference is supposed to be $50 between the two models, but real world as of the time of this writing, it is more like a $250 to $350 difference just to get the other model that has a headphone jack on the remote. Either way, even if I had the remote with a headphone jack, the app is still better, and I would use that anyways. I have no shortage of phone/tablet devices that can run it. Instead of going elsewhere and getting audio on a remote that I would still not use, I could literally for the same money buy this tv here and an Xbox One S to go with it. I love the tv so far. Hope TCL keeps this up.

Best in Class for 6 bills

I got the 55P605 from Best Buy. The 55P607 is most common. It has the nicer remote with headphone support. The app for my phone and iPad gives me headphone (bluetooth or wired) connectivity from across the room. The app only lets you listen to streaming media from the apps you load. Nothing from the HDMI inputs like your DVD, FYI. Let me tell you I'm thrilled at the picture and black levels. My xBox-S looks amazing on it. After Christmas I can tell you about the input lag (noticeable or not). The inboard sound is a bit metallic and shallow, but not awful. In a room with tile everywhere it didn't bother me. I was also using the analog 3.5mm sound output on my old screen that fed into some nice PC speaker system. I like that this TV has that kind of output, but more importantly, treats it like headphones. When you adjust the sound, my PC speakers adjust. There is a tiny digital popping sound that I don't know if it is coming from the A/C plug on my speakers or the TV port. Anyways I just power them down at bedtime. I'm just thrilled that I can use that system and control it with my remote. I love the apps. xFinity app means I can watch TV in this room without an additional box. I also upgraded my Netflix to HD stream and LOVE it on this TV. So much better. I was able to use the same mount as the one it replaced. 200x200 VESA is not common anymore in this size, so I was thrilled. The casing on the TV feels solid, and the TV was packaged well and transported without incident. Overall, I'm glad I chose this model instead of opting for the twice as expensive OLED from LG. In this class, the TV with Roku. I paid $599 and regret nothing.

    Best TV Under $900

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

First things first.... I love this TV. Not only do I love it for the price, but also because of how much performance it has in a TV for $599.99. Let's start with the negatives first... the remote. For me, the remote has a hard time registering to the TV, without me lifting my arm up and pointing it at the TV. This is an easy fix, however. Simply download the Roku app on your phone.... and voila! Easy to setup and use at the control of your touchscreen! Let's get on with the positives. I wanted a TV with a punch for a fraction of the price. I am a cheap kind of a guy, I take shortcuts when I can. This IS that shortcut when it comes to a TV. It has not only HDR10, but also Dolby Vision. Get it!! Worth the extra money. Don't forget the very minimal video game lag (I don't notice any lag at all playing COD WW2), the local dimming, and the 72 Zone Contrast Control. The blacks watching movies/shows in 4K is just amazing. It's no longer just a solid black background, but a blackened background with details still. It's hard to explain, but I love love love this TV. The sound is so so out of the speakers, but once paired with a soundbar/sub, you can't go wrong. What you are paying for is the picture quality. It blows my mind still for how incredible the picture is and for what I paid for it. If you are in the market for a new TV, I would 110% buy this TV again!!!

Unbeatable Price/Quality Ratio = Raw Value

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have now owned this TV for 16 days, and I felt it deserved another quality review added to its archive of great reviews. This is a very long review, but if you are on the fence about this TV hopefully this review can paint a good picture of this TV for you. [What led me to this purchase?] I was pretty certain my fiancé was getting me the Xbox One X for Christmas, and based off of one of my best friends’ opinion of his Xbox One X, you certainly need a 4K HDR TV to truly enjoy the console. So I began researching TVs months prior to Christmas. The purchasing of this TV was the result of months of research that led me to this TV, with little to no doubt that I was making a great decision. Where did the little bit of doubt come from you may ask? Well… just go into any Best Buy and find this TV on display. You will find this TV on a top corner rack, in an overly lit area, playing some crumby Best Buy ad that may or may not be playing with a really choppy and low frame rate (According to Best Buy staff the frame rate being choppy was something to do with the input device and not the TV display). There will be nothing about the TV being showcased while on display, and you will not be impressed. It just looks like a low-end budget TV, which Best Buy doesn’t seem to care at all about selling. For months I was completely sold on the idea of saving up and eventually getting an LG OLED C7P, which in all reality is likely the best TV on the market along with the Sony OLED A1E. However these TVs are more of a pipe dream for most people because the cost for these brand name TVs are astronomical, and if you can afford them, and want to support these large brand name manufactures then go for it cause you will certainly get quality, but you wont necessarily get value. As an I.T. guy and an avid gamer who owns consoles, but also built my own tower PC there is one thing I have learned for sure when it comes to hardware. As costs go up there is always a diminishing return on quality. That is where the attribute of value comes into play, and if you have seen the review on this TV from CNET, it scored a 10 out of 10 on value. About 3 years ago I built a PC with some of the best parts available at the time. I spent over $2300 attempting to build a liquid cooled fire-breathing dragon of a PC, that was future proof beyond all doubt. Well my new $500 Xbox One X blows it out of the water. So my point being is don’t assume spending more money will always get you a better device, and it definitely wont make you more satisfied with your purchase. But you know what will? Getting a phenomenal TV at a price that seems too good to be true. [Why is this TV so Great?] The Roku TV Interface: I have never used a Roku device before, so this was my first experience with one, and I have to say I am very impressed. It’s fast and responsive, it’s easy to use and navigate, the TV turns on in seconds and that’s not even using the quick on feature (which I haven’t felt the need to use yet), and lastly it supports so many different apps. YouTube streams 4K so well you will be jumping out of your seat the first time you watch something in 4K on it. It runs all of your favorite apps very well, and you will discover many new ones that will soon become your favorite also. I had a USB flash drive with season 2 of “The Expanse” on it that my dad recorded for me. This USB flash drive would not let me watch the show on my PC because I needed to download some third party software to use it, so the flash drive sat on my shelf unused. After purchasing this TV I decided to plug it into the TVs USB port just to see what happened. It immediately prompted me to launch the “Roku Media player app” which was pre-loaded into the operating system. Boom!! the videos of “The Expanse” off the USB played immediately and with no difficulty, working great with the remote to fast forward through commercials and everything. Then after watching about 5 episodes I decided to see if there was a SyFy channel app I could use to stream the show in 1080p. A quick search later and I found and quickly downloaded the SyFy app, where I can now stream the last half of the season in 1080p (which is as high of resolution as the app supports). Picture Quality: The picture quality is extremely impressive. If you want to show the TV off to your friends or loved ones, just go to YouTube and type in 4K, in fact I am playing a 4K YouTube video right now because I just love seeing this TV at its best even in the background while I write…. enough said. Sound quality: I don’t really have anything to say about the sound quality because I don’t use the TV’s speakers at all, I have an inexpensive 5.1 sound bar system that plugs in via optical port, and it sounds great. The built in speakers are… well… built in TV speakers. GAMING!!!: Ok so I saved this for my last key take away about the TV because it’s my favorite part. I was looking for a TV to meet the demands of my new 4K gaming console the Xbox One X, and this TV has exceeded my expectations. This TV supports both HDR 10 and Dolby Vision. The Xbox One X uses HDR 10 as its HDR so this TV meets that demand, but if Xbox ever decides to switch over to Dolby Vision, or say the next Playstation console decides to support Dolby Vision then this TV has that covered too. Input lag where less milliseconds (ms) is better, is something I was unaware of when I first started researching TVs prior to this purchase, I heard somewhere that for gaming you want 30ms or less. According to CNET, my 5-year-old 1080p Vizio M Series had 38ms, the latest Vizio 4K HDR XLED TVs have even more at like 44ms. Most TVs in fact have over 30ms. The $2500 LG OLED 65 C7P has 21ms (Which is Great!!!). Well this $599 TCL 55 P605 has approximately 14ms of input lag when in game mode!!! It says that picture quality is reduced when put in game mode, but honestly I do not see the slightest difference in picture quality between game mode and normal mode. This low input lag is immediately noticeable when playing a competitive shooter like Gears of War 4, or Call of Duty WW2. I never felt like I had any input lag before I played on this TV, but now that I have this TV I feel the noticeable difference on my gamepad, where my motions with the thumb sticks appear simultaneous with the actions on screen. This is key when milliseconds mean the difference to winning a firefight or not. Now one thing I would like to mention is that not all games take advantage of the hardware of the Xbox One X or the TVs capabilities, so some games look much better than others, that has nothing to do with the TV, and is solely based on the effort put in by the games developers. But the differences made by the Xbox One X combined with this remarkable TV is game changing. I was playing Call of Duty WW2 on my old Xbox One and my old 1080p TV, and I was not impressed. I grew tired of the single player campaign and the multiplayer for sure (and I was never one to care more about graphics over gameplay…..never). As soon as I loaded the game up in 4K, HDR, and Xbox One X enhanced using this TV and my new Xbox One X, the game was 100% revitalized in my eyes. It immediately became more fun, and the multiplayer became an absolute blast to me because now I feel like I have a fair yet competitive edge with the sharp images, mind blowing color, low input lag, and easy target recognition due to the enhanced resolution. [Overall] I apologize for the length of this review, and if you made it this far I thank you for bearing with me, but the length of this review goes to show you the passion I have for this TV. One thing I cannot stress enough, is the satisfaction of a TV with a quick and responsive interface. Nothing is more irritating then navigating menus that constantly give you loading screens and at times appear to lack in response to your inputs from the remote. This TV has none of those problems, and just blazes through every screen without any difficulty or loading. The same cannot be said for many TVs that are twice the cost of this one. In no way do I regret this purchase. It has exceeded my expectations in every way. If you have the money to throw away then get an LG or Sony OLED, for sure you wont be disappointed in the picture quality, but that is also what you would expect for a $1500-$3500 display. But if you want something that is a significant improvement from your 1080p, or even your now aging 4K TV at a price point that cannot be beaten by any other TV on the market, then get this TV because I promise you will not be disappointed. Simply put: Great Roku Smart TV interface, great picture quality with impressive colors and deep dark precise blacks with intense whites using localized dimming with HDR 10 and Dolby Vision, and impressive 4K resolution, great for watching any type of media, and even better as a gaming display with low input lag. It is 85% the quality of an LG OLED, at 30% the cost of one. Plus you can buy this at a Best Buy, set it up, and if you are not impressed I am pretty sure you can return it within a reasonable window of time, but unless you ended up with a dud (see negative reviews), you wont be returning this display. The End.

Yep, all the hype is true: Awesome for gaming, just amazing PQ and to add: The built in apps handle both Dolby Vision and HDR10 titles, INCLUDING YouTube! You are literally guaranteed to get the most out of your HDR titles available. I have had 4 - 4k TV's and multiple streaming devices to attach to 4k and now 2nd HDR set and this not only matches LG and Vizio for both Dolby Vision and HDR10 compatibility but has the YouTube HDR AND the brightness and PQ that beats both. Also, forget 120Hz, more and more content will be done in 60Hz instead of 24Hz eventually, there is a good reason, all the marketing gimmicks have shifted away from refresh Hz, when content itself is 60Hz it's naturally perfectly smooth, and there is plenty of free HDR on YouTube to show this. The regular price of $600 is a BARGAIN even compared to sale prices of others. The only area the pro reviewers didn't like was the vertical waviness in their review sample, ours has VERY little, so it's great for side to side sports too!

This item showed up on my doorsteps on June 23, 2017.. prior to it's arrival, I was in the hunt for a newer, bigger, and more advanced tv compared to the one I previously owned (2013 Samsung 46in 1080p 3d)...I did research online and came to the conclusion that my next purchase would be a 4k tv that had to have both hdr formats (hdr10 + Dolby vision)...I game extensively and also do a fair amount of movie watching at home on the couch... originally the lg oleds was on my sights...but after reading up on a few test reviews from various tech websites, the tcl 2017 P series repeatedly scored high remarks regarding picture quality and low input lag used for gaming... admittedly at first I was hesitant...in all my adult years of buying my own tv sets, I have never purchased a tcl product before and have always stuck with Sony, LG, and Samsung...this 55in TCL is now officially my 4th hdtv I have ever owned...the first being 1080i, followed by 720p then 1080p shortly afterwards, and now last but not least, a 4k set by TCL...After only several hours of deliberate use, I must say I am a proudful owner of perhaps one of the most underrated 4k tv sets in the market today...for the price I paid ($600usd), I have no regrets and very satisfied with my purchase... picture quality exceeded my expectations for a "budget" tv...many advanced features that are normally reserved for the higher end and much costlier tv's can be found here on this p series tcl...hdr10 + Dolby vision in one package...local dimming...Roku smart interface...and with it's low input lag, gaming on my Xbox one s is fast and smooth...very little drop in frame rate despite the noticable graphical upgrade shown on the screen...4k content such as uhd Blu rays look phenomenal on this set...I use my Xbox as a uhd player and the movies in 4k are simply jaw dropping to say the least...not trying to be bias as an owner, but this tv in my opinion is hands down the best budget 4k tv for 2017...its priced low, future proof, and of great quality...I highly recommend it for gamers, movie watchers and those who place value & quality on top of their shopping list for a new TV...trust me, you will not be disappointed.

Text is a little too soft to use as a PC monitor

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

--Text is just a little too soft to use this TV as a computer monitor--meaning, being seated 2 or 3 feet away from it. This is especially true compared to other TVs that can be used as a monitor--for example, the VIzio M-series displays computer text very well. --Unfortunately nothing can be done to sharpen the TCL P605's text because (1) its sharpen adjustment is not available in PC mode and (2) the P605 automatically senses any PC signal so you can't get around this problem by trying to input your computer as if it's something else (i,e., a DVR) ...but you really wouldn't want to use the sharpen function anyway because then everything else on screen would be overly sharpened and you'd see halos around all the edges of everything, except for text. --The second, and lesser, problem using the P605 as a monitor is its gray screen uniformity. It's fairly bad with some software and also when browsing the internet. This is because a lot of software as well as nearly all web pages have white or solid color backgrounds. In these instances the uniformity problem becomes all too apparent starting about 8 inches from the outer edges of the screen--especially at the sides, much less so near the top & bottom. So, starting at about that 8 inch point from the screen edge the screen literally begins fading into a grayish haze as you get closer to the outer edge. Images, colors and white can still be seen, but under about 15% of grayish haze. --I might have kept the P605 if the only problem was its gray uniformity when used as a monitor, because as a TV its 100% excellent, no problems ...well maybe a slight problem with the rare movie or TV show that has a lot of white or lighter solid color near the periphery of the screen, but they usually don't and when they do it's only for a few seconds. Uniformity is simply not a problem when using the P605 as a TV. Text is fine on the TV side too--because, to put it simply, TV text is different from computer text. --I really wanted to keep this TV, but text really is just a little too soft to use it as a PC monitor ...by the way, the TCL P605 and P607 are the exact same except that the 605's remote doesn't have an earphone jack, voice-control-microphone, or "lost remote" function, but that also means getting a really super price for this special BestBuy-only model.

Just purchased the TCL 55P605 today, was up and running in no time. After feeling my way around and tweeking some settings, I'm very pleased. Beautiful picture using Apple TV 4K HDR. After searching and looking at tvs claiming HDR, but after you look into specs and see that it's not what you were led to believe, and,,,,after researching this tv and reading all the positive reviews, i decided to buy it, and it's only been several hours now since set up, i'm truly amazed. I know as I learn more and do a little more in the setting, it'll be just like I want it. People, be aware of TV's with HDR on the boxes, you must research first, I run across 2 tv's that were not as advertised. HD on cable box is noticeably better quality now, great color, but the movies in HDR are something else. Buy this tv, you won't go wrong.
