This TCL 55P605 replaced my 2 year old 50" low end Vizio in my "Man Cave". The wife has the Vizio in the living room that replaces a 42" Plasma. I sure am happy with the TCL 55P605 UHD HR and one of CNET's calibration recommendations. Picture Quality with ATT's U-verse with 1080i broadcasting, is really nice. The Wi-Fi connection was a breeze. Not sure if I will be subscribing to any of the apps, but may try some 30 day trials, with 4K content. I have a complete surround system with the Denon 4K AVR as the center of attention. Right now, ATT's DVR with their 1080i programming content, is what I am utilizing. Not sure if the Denon AVR or the TCL TV is doing any upscaling from the 1080i input. I took CNET's review being very objective and the 55P605/607 with their opinon, was a good buy. The picture is as good as the 9+ year old 720p Plasma that has intermittent freezing issues. I might get involved with 4K content, when more of it is available in my interest area. I utilize Logitech's Harmony 650 remote. Thank you Best Buy, for having this TCL in stock yesterday, for my pick-up!

This TV is amazing for the price!

First I want to say that this TV is amazing. Great picture and I love the interface and features. While they advertise the Roku app for Apple and Android they also have it on Windows 10 (tablets and desktops with windows 10) and even the dead app store of windows 10 phone. The interface is easy to use and you can set up different picture settings for each input so no switching to game mode or back for your console you just set the picture settings for the port once and don't worry about it again (unless you change where things are plugged in at). Sounds is a little meh and viewing angle is ok but it's and LCD so what do you expect. That being said I love the picture and for gaming the low latency only found at that rate in TVs costing much more is very nice. If you're going to hooking up an Xbox one X or PS4 Pro and don't want to break the bank this is the TV for you hands down!

    A best value TV

Very happy with purchase after approximately six weeks of use. Picture quality is very good and the panel supports full array local dimming which really helps with picture contrast between dark and light portions of a video. Imbedded Roku interface is easy to navigate either through the supplied remote or the Roku app on my smartphone/tablet. I primarily stream Hulu, Netflix plus local OTA broadcasts on this TV. I also have an AppleTV 4K attached and all works great. I would highly recommend as a low cost yet high quality TV. Add a decent sound bar and enjoy! Also Best Buy experience was great. Ordered and delivered in two days.

I went in to best buy the other day with no plans of buying a TV and 30 min later I walk out with a 65 inch LG 4k LCD. Brought it home, set it up and was quite underwhelmed by the quality and also the TV was too big for my apartment. I went back the next day to return it and pick up a smaller one. This TCL was on sale and high reviewed on bestbuy.com. Like most of you I said, "What brand is this again?" Decided to take a shot and bring this TV home. Let me tell you, this is one of the prettiest displays Ive ever seen on a TV. I'm not a TV professional but I would be surprised if you could find a better looking TV for the price. All I do is game and watch the occasional netflix show. My Xbox is GORGEOUS on this display. The ROKU interface is super minimal and easy to use. I would recommend this TV to anyone around this budget.

    Great TV

I bought this tv based on reviews I read. In particular, thewirecutter.com picked this as their recommendation over much more expensive tv's. This tv has certainly lived up to the reviews I read. I am blown away by the picture. I can tell a difference when I watch this tv versus my Samsung plasma which is also a really great tv. 4k video is more crisp and clear. The only issue I am having is streaming Direct TV Now through the built in Roku app. Overall, this app is great but I consistently have connection issues when watching Direct TV Now. I'm certain it's not my wireless router. I kind of wonder if it might be the Direct TV Now app itself. It works better on my Apple TVs but I still have issues even using those devices right next to the router. Other than that, I love this tv. The Roku interface is really great and simple. I can use the Roku remote that came with the TV to control the volume of my connected soundbar/surround system which is really handy. The Plex app appears to be working without any issues which is why I think the issue lies with the Direct TV Now app rather than the hardware. I highly recommend this TV. I'm really happy with it especially for the price.

Very nice set with a few exceptions

This is my first upgrade to 4K and I spent a lot of time researching sets in the budget range. It was between the TCL and another brand with good online ratings, but I had to have OTA and the other brand (stupidly IMO) doesn't have an OTA tuner. Can't figure that one out in this day of cord cutting. Anyway, no brainer there especially since the TCL has the ability to pause, rewind and fast forward OTA TV. Bonus! Once set up and after a few basic adjustments the picture quality is very nice . Fairly deep black levels and decent shadow detail. Not perfect of course at this price but certainly good enough. Gotta love the smooth and fast Roku OS. I downloaded the Roku app on my phone to make the Gamma adjustment which helped. Other than that the biggie is to increase the brightness a bit to improve shadow detail. The other settings don't allow you to screw up too much. But they are there to make the adjustments need for room lighting, source material and personal preference. Have to say I am overall very happy with my purchase!

    Great Value

We were looking for a new TV to replace an ancient rear-projection TV. We looked at higher priced Sony TVs, and then checked a few review websites - all gave this TCL glowing reviews. Got it home, and installed it with a Harbor Freight full motion mount (works perfectly, and much cheaper than BB). Added a Vizio wireless 5.1 soundbar, and a Sony BlueRay player (both from Best Buy), and we have a system that is perfect for our needs - and one remote controls the main functions we use every day. I recommend that an LED light strip is added behind the TV to give a better viewing experience - BB sells white 4' strips for not much money. You don't need it too close to the outside of the TV - stick it around the sides and top, about 6 inches in from the edge, and it's perfect. Also stays on for 15 minutes after the TV is turned off, giving you plenty of time to leave the room.

    Best 600$ spent

This is by far the best purchase I have made. Since, I never owned a 4k tv before I am not going to compare it to the named brands but if 600$ could get me this amazing display I would expect paying upwards of 1000 should be crazy(which doesn't seem to be the case but a topic for another day). Pro: had enough money to buy myself a xbox one x and a soundbar; amazing with the overall setup. Con: I have had just one problem with it when the Roku interface loads up the grey screen shows light bleeding. I am not sure if it indeed light bleed cuz any other attempt to replicate it(black images, dark videos, light bleed detecting videos) fails.

Best Value, great picture, cheap build

The picture is in fact nearly as good as TV's 3x the cost. I did alot of research. I am totally happy with it. The Roku interface is snappy ans great. I didn't need to spend more $ to replace my boxes to get 4k content. So why didn't it get 5 stars? Design and build quality. Its understandable that for this price you won't get a Sony or Samsung design/. That's ok, this is in my bedroom and just wanted best picture for best price. Add a good soundbar. Done. But there is an issue. They stand legs are the cheapest i've ever seen. They flex and the TV leans back about an inch. Wants to fall backwards. Its bad. Further, i called TCL support and it was the most bizaar conversation i ever had. It did't get resolved. I may have to pack this thing back up and swap it at Best Buy. Hopefully just isolated to this unit. If you are going to mount, you will be fine.

Had TV for 2 weeks and I have been delighted. I had a bad experience with another brand and was very hesitant to purchase another "not well-known" brand. I researched and the TCL received good ratings. My other two tvs are Samsungs and I have been pleased, but, they were costly. I was looking for a good product at minimum cost for my bedroom. The picture was amazing on this TCL tv. It is almost as good as my 65" Samsung but only a 3rd of the cost. If it holds up, I will be totaled satisfied with this product. I did get the extra 2 year warranty just in case. *I've got to plug Best Buy. Why would anyone purchase electronics from anywhere else?. They have been great and stand by their products and their customers. Thanks BB!*

Incredible TV For The Price, HDR Looks Perfect

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Let me preface by saying I've been researching TVs for months on YouTube, RTings, Cnet, etc. I have always had Samsung TVs and thought my next TV would be as well until my research led me to the Sony X900E and this P605/607. I went to Best Buy to see them in person, to decide if the extra $700+ was worth it for the Sony. What's annoying is the Samsungs, Sonys, LGs, etc all have their beautiful 4k HDR videos playing on their TVs to really show them off, then go to the TCL and it's playing Best Buy ads. That makes it hard to compare, I assume they'd prefer you to buy a more expensive TV. Anyway, when you get home you can find those sample videos on Youtube and you'll discover the TV looks nearly just as good as sets costing 2-3x more. (Side note: most videos on YouTube that say HDR are not actually HDR, be sure to watch for the TV's HDR symbol to pop up, it's a really handy feature!) When I say nearly I mean if you had them side by side you might be able to tell, but with it alone in your home you won't know the difference. Other websites are reporting panels issues, possible panel lottery, I think that is an issue with shipping since there are hardly any reviews of the Best Buy model stating that. I was worried I'd have to return this set multiple times to get a "good one", but the very first one had no issues. I haven't seen any performance issues so far. I have ran multiple tests for grey uniformity, FALD testing, etc and everything looks great. I did notice a small amount of blooming with bright text (sometimes) on black background. It really doesn't bother me, you almost have to be looking for it to see it. I did follow Rtings guide for calibration on the set and it's pretty spot on, but I did lower the brightness a bit for deeper blacks. Standard Def and HD content upscale very nicely through the built-in apps that I've tested. I did notice a tiny bit of judder in some panning nature shots, but that could be due to the video itself or due to the 60Hz. I am new to Roku, and I have to say I don't like it quite as much as the FireTV interface, but maybe that's just because I'm not used to it yet. Some of the apps/channels (mainly Amazon Prime VIdeo) have an awful looking UI. Text is blurry, general aesthetics are just lacking, but once you play the actual videos it looks fine so not that big of a deal. Hopefully updates will help in the future. The 4K spotlight channel is a welcomed addition, but most of the content will be rent/buy. The interface is very responsive though, I haven't seen any lag issues so far even switching between 4k content. A couple small features I do really like: 1. Sleep timer is easy to get to from any screen. I like to turn the TV as I go to sleep and on my last TV I had to dig through menus to do it. 2. Captions On Replay is genius - If you hit the instant replay button you can have the captions go on automatically for those "what did she/he say" moments. Of course the speaker sound quality is garbage, but that's expected of flat screens. With all the money you save on this TV you can get a nice sound bar or surround sound system. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and I would recommend this TV to anyone but the extreme videophiles. I will keep this review updated if anything changes.

TV exceeded my expectations! It looks great and love ROKU apps. I did have an issue trying to hook it up to receiver but that was because I was trying to hook up everything to receiver instead of tv.(that’s how we did it our old tv)but I called TCL customer service and they were great. She looked up our receiver manual and told me what settings to put it on for optical cable so sound could go thru receiver. It was some of the best customer service I have ever had. I would definitely buy this again and from Best Buy. They are very good to deal with in store and for questions and returns.

    Excellent TV for the price

I usually do my homework when I buy something, I pour over dozens of reviews and hours YouTube videos. My old Vizio finally gave out last year and and I was given a hand me down that I never liked. So it was time to do some homework on new 4K HDR TVs while I waited for my tax return to come in. I came across this TV while watching a YouTube video on a Vizio M class TV and something the guy said stood out "This TV for the price doesn't compared to TCL" who the heck is TCL? I thought to myself. So I looked into it. So what does this TV have? HDR10 (check) Dolby HDR (check) Game mode with a input lag of 14ms (wholly crap! Really? That's amazing for ANY TV to have!) Roku TV (that's a thing!? I Love Roku!) OK fine so how do these people like it? Oh they like it! How much? $599 really!? Jeez 4Ks are cheap now! Ok fine so how do I like it? OK to be honest i got a dud at first. I had a weird random issue were the TV wouldn't turn off and it would just freeze, forcing me to hard reset (pull the plug) I searched the internet and only found one person with the same issue. I contacted TCL via email and told them this problem and made them aware I was under my 14 day warranty.. First off, don't listen to people complain about their tech support, I had a email reply from a real person in under 10 mins. He said he never heard this issue before and found it "interesting" (I believe him since only one other guy on a Google search came up) he told me I had two options, rather exchange/return the TV or he would schedule tech support to come out. This impressed me, he literally told me to not waste my time and exchange the TV, not knowing if I was even gonna get another TCL. If that doesn't impress you about this company, I don't know what will. I got another TCL This one isn't a dud. The picture is great, the roku menu is is simple, clean and fast. Switching inputs (HDMI 1 HDMI 2 AV) is faster than any TV I have previously owned and you just hit the home button and bam! Back in roku. The remote is just a roku remote with volume + mute buttons on the side. Everything is done within roku and it's amazing! It's highly customizable and you can program it to turn on straight to your cable TV box if you don't like it. The picture is outstanding when in 4K Dolby HDR. But playing with the color sliders is a must with older TV and movies, but thankfully this is also simple and quick.. Yea I'm sure the $2000 Samsung has a better picture, but this isn't some garbage Kmart HDTV from 2008. This is a really good looking picture and I have zero regrets cheaping out. So I chose the $600 model for Dolby HDR, roku has a built in Dolby app that finds pay per view movies with Dolby HDR.. I only get a new TV every decade or two, so why not have the correct stuff in it.. But from what I heard the $399 model is identical except for Dolby HDR. So if this is too rich for your blood go check that one out, Dolby HDR is a code that only a handful of movies use, HDR10 is the standard for Xbox games and such and the $399 model has HDR10.. So either way this TV is worth it.. Just get this TV or the $399 one if you want a 55 inch TV for under $700 if you can pay more, then get a bigger TV, because your gonna lose a lot of features even in the more expensive 55 inches, so make the trade off worth it and just go big.

Incredible picture for the money. The only negative things I can say is the viewing angle is poor. Unless you are watching completely in the center of the screen the sides will wash out and becomes slightly browner. Also the local dimming (I think this is what activates the lights behind the panel) acts very weird in dark scenes trying to follow a small object. Other than these 2 things this TV is absolutely perfect. The Roku system is awesome! HDR is stellar. Uncharted 4 on PS4 Pro is ecstasy. Excellent TV TCL!

Excellent TV with a sub par remote

Great TV in almost every respect, sound, picture quality, interface, and setup. Setup was amazingly easy. Even the sound which is usually lousy on back facing speakers is very good. I wish the TV had PIP but it does not. Also the remote has no numeric keypad so to get to a channel you always have to scroll. There is also no back button on the remote so you cannot quickly switch between two channels (like when watching 2 games at once). I am hoping a replacement remote will remedy these last two. Otherwise I am very happy with my purchase. Great TV!

Xbox S, HDCP 2.2 HDMI 2.0 and HDR

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

TV looks fantastic! The picture, the colors, the size, it's absolutely amazing! The motion isn't 120hz, more like 60hz and you can tell. Most manufacturers (Samsung LG Sony) fudge this spec, it's usually half. I'm sure if you set this next to a Samsung 8 series it wouldn't look as good but for half the price who cares! The BB specs say this TV doesn't have 2.2 HDCP and they're wrong. This TV has it and HDMI 2.0. I'm posting this because of the confusion I had to go through to get to the truth. Most of you know you have to have HDCP 2.2 (which is permission to transfer data) and HDMI 2.0 (a or b it doesn't matter as long as it's 2.0) to get 4k HDR from an Xbox S (or X or Ps4 pro or the newer 4k HDR blu ray players) to your TV. This TV has this capability. BTW if you run your HDMI through a sound system to get to your TV it must have HDCP 2.2 as well or it won't transfer 4k HDR. It took me a while to figure why my Xbox S wouldn't go into 4k HDR when connected to this TV. These are the steps I took to fix it. In the TV settings menu there's input settings, I changed the one my Xbox was plugged into to 4k. Then my Xbox switched to 4k. Then in the Xbox video settings I turned HDR on and BOOM! 4k all day baby This TV comes with a regular Roku remote with volume on the side. This can be frustrating bc I'm used to a regular TV remote. The 55p607 is the same TV but comes with a regular remote. I love roku so much that I wanted the roku remote because that's really all I need 99% of the time.

This TV is amazing in every aspect. I'm not sure why some people are having issues with the picture, I can only assume a firmware patch or two must've fixed them because this TV's picture is absolutely stunning. I've only had this TV for a few days now, however I've watched Netflix in 4K, and done some PS4 gaming and everything so far has been outstanding. I love the ROKU interface, it is very quick. My friend has a 65" Sony OLED TV, and I honestly can't tell the difference in the Blacks. I've been an Elite Plus member for quite a few years now and this is my first Best Buy review, that is how much I love this TV!!! At this price, I'd tell everyone to buy it, and save your OLED money for other things for now. The input lag on this TV is 1ms as a PC monitor in 4K HDR at 60Hz! If you're playing console at 4K 60Hz the input lag is still only 7ms with HDR!!! Those numbers are industry leading folks. You won't find a TV out there with input lag numbers like these...ANYWHERE! BUY IT :)

Amazing color, contrast, black levels, and smart TV features. Great local dimming for the price. A little bit of blooming on the local dimming, but that's pretty much going to be there to some extent in any non-OLED TV with FALD. Motion is acceptable. Overall, performs WAY above its price level. I highly recommend.

I can not believe all the high end features they have successfully packed into led at this price!! full array backlighting, wide color gamut, great HDR peak brightness, and a decent local dimming feature. This adds up to a fantastic picture for the price. In fact It outperforms my $2000 led in my living room easily. Not the best tv made but definitely best for the price.

    Great panel for the price!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This TV is perfect for anyone who wants an excellent panel at a great price. Some important criteria you should keep in mind when purchasing a TV is the ease of set-up, picture quality, and the smart platform that the TV operates on. For the price I paid, this TV surpassed my expectations in every category! When it came to unboxing and connecting the TV, there were no bumps in the road; my TV was connected to the Wi-Fi and I was watching Netflix in 4K in no time! This ease of use is partially due to the Roku system that is built in, which is one of my favorite aspects of the TV. It is laid out in a way that makes it very easy to access all streaming content, apps, and settings you may need. The picture quality is probably the single most important thing when it comes to purchasing a new TV, and this one can deliver great quality. Due to the fact that it is 4K, it has four times the pixels of my last TV, which was 1080P. Four times the pixels leads to a dramatic increase in the color, clarity, and contrast in the movies you may watch. Not only are the pixels 4K, but they are also HDR (High Dynamic Range); meaning that they can produce 840,000,000 more colors than a TV without HDR. The specifications of this TV provide the reasoning as to why the panel on it is so impressive and make watching movies, sports, and TV shows a blast! I have especially noticed the detail while watching content on Netflix that is available in 4K, it truly appears lifelike. The best way to get a quality audio experience with this TV is to pair it with a sound bar, which will add to the movie theater-like experience. You can purchase a quality sound bar and subwoofer bundle for around $150. I believe that TCL has produced a TV with some of the most value on the market today. There are TVs with more advanced technology that can offer a slightly better panel, but only slightly. The slight increase in the quality of the panel leads to a dramatic increase in the price. You must ask yourself, is the small difference worth thousands? If you are in the market for the best TV without spending thousands of dollars, this is the TV for you.
