Cord Cutter 4K HDR
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just got the 55P605 today and am impressed with the pic quality but definitely not the sound. I use a sound bar and sub in this room so it's not that big a deal to me. I have been a cord cutter for almost 2 years and this TV is capable of supplying what I need. AND ... most important for me .... you CAN use Fire TV with it - no problems. I only gave 4 stars since I haven't had the set that long .

Value cannot be beaten
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did a lot of research on basically any 4k HDR tv I could find between 600 and 1200 dollars and I came to the conclusion that even though there were tvs that were better, the overall differences in quality were not high enough to justify spending even a few hundred more. And that is the strength of this tv. It can hold it's own against tv's twice it's price and not be completely outclassed. There are tv's twice it's price that don't have dolby vision, or FALD, or as a good color gamut to take advantage. In some cases, all three! Sure, the videophiles will notice it's quirks and it's budget-ness but frankly unless you go into the purchase expecting to find small visual quality or really looking hard for them, you likely won't notice them at all. Yes there is light bleed from the corners...when local dimming is turned off which is typically only during various menus. When it's on during just about any content the problem isn't there. Yes, it doesn't have the greatest uniformity but unless you do nothing but watch Football and/or hockey, or content with a lot of panning shots over fields or skies, again, you'll never notice it. Overall, if you primarily want a good 4K HDR gaming set where you can also enjoy movies from Netflix or a physical disc, THIS is the tv you want if you are on a budget.

Gamers Paradise TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV is absolutely great, The input lag on this TV is the lowest input lag of any TV in it's class. Truly there is NO better TV for gaming in this price. The next best thing will cost you 4x as much. I have 0 regrets about this TV and would recommend this TV to ANY gamer that wants a great TV for a good price.

Great TV! Not just for the price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this TV a couple weeks ago and I am absolutely in love with it! I was looking for a good TV and I have a modest budget. I had read reviews from brands like Sony and Samsung but, considering I had just under $1k I could spend I wasn't impressed with offerings. In that price range, there were a couple good options but nothing that really impressed. Then, I saw the reviews for the TCL P607 (P605 here at BB, the only difference is the lack of voice search and headphone jack in the remote.) The tech nerds at different websites were losing their minds about the TV. Well, add me to the list. The color and brightness is fantastic! My biggest problem with most inexpensive TV's (especially from Samsung this year) is the colors appear washed out. This set is bright and vibrant, the blacks are very, very good. Yes, the local dimming can be slightly inconsistent on occasion but a software update is expected to fix this (per TCL). Even without, it's still worth it. For you gamers, the input lag is ridiculously low. For cord cutters, there is a built-in TV tuner (unlike Vizio) that will allow you to pause live TV once a flash drive is plugged in. Also, all the HDMI ports support the latest standard. Not just one or two like you find on most budget TV's The only Tv's I've seen that can beat the picture performance of this TCL are models that cost $1500+ (usually more than $2000). I wish the 65" was released. When it comes out I'll probably pick up that one and move this 55 to my bedroom. This TV uses the Roku interface for smart functions so the updates are on point and it's so easy to use my 70-year-old parents have no problem. The only downsides are these: 1. There are only 3 HDMI ports. For me, this isn't a problem. My sound bar is going to the ARC port and my Xbox is plugged into another. If I ever go back to cable I can still plug into the TV or plug into my soundbar, as it has HDMI pass through. Since it uses Roku, you don't really need a streaming device. 2. The remote. It's like a regular Roku remote but uses IR and has the volume buttons on the side. because of how I grab it, I mute my TV on accident all the time. Overall though, these are minor and would not stop me from buying again. Seriously, if you don't have a $2k budget to spend, save your money and get this for $599. Use the savings for a sound bar ( a must for any TV nowadays). I LOVE THIS TV!

Compares well to higher cost HDR sets.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After reading many reviews about many 4K tvs seeing videos I came across this one from tcl. Never heard much about them. Anyway after buying the tv playing games watching tv and testing Netflix house of cards in 4K it definitely shines. Speaker sound is good enough on the tv. For my use I have a reciever with bowers and Wilkins speakers so I'm great with that. Tv pairs well with the stereo. The menus are easy to use. Easier than other brands. A great touch is being able to not only name the hdmi ports according to function but being able to go in and adjust each hdmi input from auto to hdmi 1.4 or hdmi 2.0. That in itself provides adaptiive use. I can say this take the time to color calibrate and you will be rewarded with a terrific picture that can definitely be compatible and be in a dead even race for high picture quality. Is it the best set and absolute picture no but it can hang in there with mid to upper mid tier for a quarter of the price. People comparing it to oled. Of course black levels will be better on an oled. Pixels provide their own light and also shut off to provide perfect black levels for oled. Keep in mind oled has been known to suffer image retention and in harsh cases burn in do your research use YouTube investigate for yourself.

Great TV-Great Price-only issue is headphone port
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My only issue is the out port to headphones. The only way it works is plug jack into the headphone out port-this shuts off tv speakers. To get tv speakers to work again-you have to unplug the jack to the headphone out port.

Phenomenal TV, but advanced setup is tricky
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We upgraded from a 10-year-old 720p 37" LCD television with this purchase, so the leap in quality really stood out. Picture is clear and bright, with great contrast thanks to the 72 local dimming zones. Basic setup is quite easy, and we love having a simple remote without a lot of extra buttons. The roku interface is familiar and intuitive. Streaming quality is exceptional; we're using ethernet and a gigbit fiber connection at home. My two quibbles are: *The legs only extend a few inches forward and backward from the base, effectively making the screen top-heavy. If you have kids or rambunctious pets, I would wall-mount instead of relying on the stand. *There is no documentation (not even on TCL's website) for advanced settings, like enabling HDMI CEC, so that the TV remote also adjusts receiver volume and power. Getting it to work required trial-and-error and looking for settings in both the Audio and System menus -- on my TV and my receiver! But it does work as intended, with a 7-year-old Pioneer receiver.

Amazing for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well, this review took longer than I thought to write since I purchased the TV pre-Christmas 2017 and it sat in the box until May 26th. I was actually concerned as, obviously, my return window had long since passed; however, due to a contractors issue at the house where it was being installed, there was nothing I could do. Most people seem to love this TV; however, there are the occasional bad units with dead pixels or horrid DSE and/or banding, etc. My other issue is that my 'go-to' set is an LG OLED, so I was worried I might find this picture lacking, in comparison. I set the unit up, plugged it in, and the setup with Roku was easy-peasy. Unit immediately updated to the current firmware and a scan found 75 OTA channels using an indoor flat antenna. Now to the content: AMAZING. No banding, no dead pixels, no real issues at all except for a very small area in the upper right and upper left corners of the screen on a pure white screen which are completely unnoticeable with any content at all. Grey uniformity looks overall quite good. UHD movies and streaming are both fantastic! The digital HD signals from local channels (this TV is located in Phoenix area, BTW) are quite good. Overall, very pleased with this TV, especially for the price, considering my LG was 3x the price and, although better overall, not 3x better by any stretch. Negatives? Well, the sound is quite poor, indeed, so I'm looking forward to getting a small home theater set up soon. Also, the TV moves a little back and forth on the stands and I wish it was more stable. I had to put some shims on the back feet as the unit was leaning back a little once set. You also have to work on setup to tweak the picture for each input and the remote, a basic Roku unit, is not up to the task, efficiency wise. Otherwise, extremely happy and I say if you can pick one of these up for $500 on sale, you won't be disappointed in the least. Watch the video from rtings.com on youtube for a great baseline for video setup.

Wow! I'm Simply Blown Away! TCL55P605
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off I would like to mention in the past 6 months I been trying to find a 4k HDR 10 tv that would make me happy in every aspects for my needs I have tried and returned many and losing hope I thought I found the right tv for me so I settled on the Samsung KS8000 $1500 bucks later ouch don't get me wrong it's a great tv but for a very high price tag and the amount of incomplete firmware updates the picture quality and performance just wasn't acceptable anymore! So back to basics I came across this TCL Roku 4K HDR+Dolby Vision 55 inch TV for $599 with almost 5 stars from Bestbuy.com I knew I had to investigate this tv and every detail about this company I never heard of and I'm so happy and glad I did! It's perfect for all my needs at one third the cost of the KS8000 and has so much more I'm just totally blown away with this 4k tv thank you TCL and Bestbuy! Pros: Deep blacks and bright vibrant colors Full Array 72 FALD VA 10 bit panel Excellent picture quality with Wide Color Gamut. Very low input lag 15 ms great for gaming on any setting no need to use game mode so you get a better picture and performance the games play and look fantastic with my PS4 Pro and Xbox One and PC I hear from other reviewers look and play fantastic as well I can't wait for the Xbox One X release! No Soap Opera Effect it's not present or a option thank God! HDR10 and Dolby Vision video look fantastic and play smooth with no jutter. Roku smart interface is snappy and so easy to use and to setup favorite apps. All necessary inputs and features are present on this tv on par with higher brand premium tvs. Cons: Remote is small and you have to point it directly at the bottom of the tv area or it's hard to change settings in your tv or change channels I just use the Roku app on my smartphone. Sound is not that good going to have to purchase a good soundbar

Best 4K budget tv
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned this tv for 3 weeks now and I have been thoroughly impressed since I turned the tv on for the first time. The 4K picture is outstanding, contrast is the best I have seen, and the colors are so lifelike. The settings are simplistic for anyone to be able to adjust. I wish expert picture settings were on the tv instead of the app. Using my xbox one x 4K enhanced games look unbelievable and the hdr enabled games also look much nicer. 4K movies like Fate of the Furious and Deep Water Horizon are amazing to watch and rewatch over and over. Watching regular cable looks so much better even in low power mode. This tv upscales everything to 4K and it does a mighty fine job too! NCIS looks like it is blu-ray quality now. I highly recommend this tv to anyone looking for a nice 4K HDR tv that is great for gaming. Once you get it go on youtube and watch some 4K HDR videos and your mind will be blown!

Fantastic Quality, Great Price, Terrible Remote
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 4k and HDR are amazing. You will not be disappointed with the picture quality of this TV, especially for the price. It is a even higher picture quality than the more expensive C series and comes with edge lighting. The Roku Smart software is actually quite straightforward and easy to use. Coming from someone who has never owned a smart TV, I was able to figure out all the processes in no time. The biggest letdown is the remote. Unfortunately the Roku remote does NOT have number keys! This makes it impossible to directly choose what channels you want. Even if you program a remote with numbers, they will still not work. The fastest way to change channels is through the guide. The other negative is the sound quality. Although not terrible, it feels like the sound is not being projected forwards, and will require at the very least, a cheap soundbar or speaker system. So keep that in mind while looking at prices. This would have received 5 stars if not for the remote. Also the depth including the legs is 8 inches (which is not correctly described here) and the legs sit 5-6 inches from the edge of the TV.

Great TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We got a 4k HDR TV for my parents this past Christmas and every since I wanted to upgrade to a 4k HDR but didn't want to spend thousands of dollars for a new one. This one went on sale for $100 and I knew I had to take the plunge into 4k and HDR as my wife was onboard after I told her about it. Pros: Price price price! It has great picture quality for the price. Roku. Roku is really nice and easy to use. Lots of apps! 4k and HDR with Dolby Vision. The picture looks great! The TV just looks newer and more sleek. Cons: The remote will not work well for a cable box but it works fine with Roku and TV itself. Viewing angle is not good. The sound is terrible. TV only comes in 55 inch. It would be nice to have options. Cable TV doesn't look as good as Netflix in Dolby Vision. It is a better picture but I think the cable picture could be a little sharper. However, I am running everything through a 10 year old 5.1 receiver that upscales to only 1080p. So I might be upgrading to a 4k receiver soon. Overall, this TV is easily a 5 star product. Most of the cons do not affect me. We don't have a big room with wide viewing angles and a bigger screen is not needed. We are upgrading from 1080p 55 inch. So no big change there. My wife actually said it looked bigger. We have 5.1 surround sound. So no problem with sound. You might have to upgrade to at least a sound bar. As far as the remote, we have a harmony remote. You could also use the cable box remote. I am very happy with my purchase. So be aware of the cons, take the appropriate steps to lessen these cons, and you won't be disappointed.

No Better Value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like many I really researched what TV to get for my needs. My primary need was gaming, Xbox one X, PS4 Pro, and some PC.. The TCL P605 shines in the use of gaming. The HDR and local dimming features look amazing, especially for games like Assassins Creed Origins, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and Horizon Zero Dawn. Another reason besides the price is the fantastic Roku operation system, it's easy to navigate and the Roku app you can download on your phone is great. You can listen to audio on the app thru your phone and it has a few more features to help tweak the picture to your liking. Movies and TV shows also look fantastic on this set it is a great all around TV at an unbelievable price. This set is not perfect like many 4K TV's the viewing angle can wash colors a bit if you are on the side viewing it and the sound is decent to me but would be better with a sound bar. There are better TV's out there of course but you will be paying much much more and for all the features you get with this TV the value was too good to pass up. If you're a gamer like me who also watches movies and TV there is really no better option at this value you won't regret your purchase

Epic 4k TV!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've done a lot of research over the past few months on 4k tvs, only to keep returning to this one. I'm an avid gamer and movie nerd. So picture quality, HDR quality, lag time among other settings were very important to me. With that said, this tv doesn't disappoint. I'm incredibly happy with it. Make sure to calibrate the tv. Go to rtings.com and use their calibration numbers. Trust me. It's night and day from how you get it out of the box. In case anyone was wondering, I have an XBOX ONE X hooked up, and it runs and looks simply amazing on this tv. At this price point you can't ask for a better set up. Trust me...BUY THIS!!

Really nice 4k for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When searching for cheaper 4k tvs, the p605/p607 (both basically the same, but bestbuy sells p605) was one of the more recommended ones due to the low input lag (15 ms in game mode) and color range. Having had it for a few days I can say that, aside from the obvious upgrade to 4k, theres a lot to like with this thing. For one, the low input lag definitely feels like 15ms which is nice if you play games a lot. Brightness is really high, even on the darker settings. The Roku menu built in is really snappy and quick, I never once had to wait for it to slowly register an input or spend more than a few seconds waiting for an app to open. Additionally, having the roku built saves me an hdmi slot which i like. The big sell in my opinion though is the colors. Granted, I haven't seen a lot of 4k tvs, but the color contrast and depth on this tv is insane. Theres not really much I can say to do it justice, but it really does add to a movie or show, even without HDR, when you see just how colorful something can be and just how dark things can get. I really wish i had the vocabulary to describe the color this tv outputs, because it was the colors above all else that made me like this tv. It also doesn't hurt that the p605 is $600 at 55in and the also nice lower end model, the s405 i think, comes in at $450. There are other cheap 4k models you may want to compare against, but I'll likely recommend this tv to people I know who don't like to research a lot and I don't think you'll go wrong buying this tv.
