TCL doesn't have the name recognition of the big players in the U.S. industry, but don't let that scare you. They are a big name in Asia, by the way, so they're not just some no-name. They're trying to break into the U.S. market, so they're doing so with an affordable price tag. This TV has all the latest features - 4k, Ultra HD, Dolby Vision - that rival the "big boys". If this had one of those names on it, you'd have to pay double to triple the price. I've now owned this TV for 3 weeks and the quality continues to impress me. I was one of the first to buy this tv. When I went to the Best Buy warehouse to pick it up, they were having a big sale on open-box items, including rival tv's from the "big boys". The salesmen tried to talk me into one of them instead, but I'm glad I stuck with the TCL. I've read quite a few reviews and followed over 1000 posts on the AVS forum owners thread. One of the main gripes about this tv is that it's a little on the fragile side. So just be careful when handling it. I was careful and it seemed to pay off. I have no issues with mine. I could go on and on with more details about all the Roku apps - a cord cutter's dream, how quick you can jump back and forth from YouTube to Netflix, to antenna channels, etc. But there are other sources for that info. So I'll just leave it at this. Take it from a family of four using this tv daily for the last 3 weeks. I don't even like watching tv much, but I can't resist turning this thing on. :)

The television itself is great and well worth the price. We however never received the email for the free 30 days of Sling TV and the Geek Squad chat refuses to help.

    Great performance for the price

Like many others, I went for this model based on the large number of good reviews. I have to say that so far, the image quality is outstanding. Color/contrast/blacks, it all looks great after I dialed back the noise reduction settings etc. The exterior case of this set feels pretty flimsy but I suspect this is par for the course today. Mine was undamaged out of the box. The remote is nice and simple. The interface for the TV is standard Roku which is overall a very good platform. I especially like that they have pretty much all of the streaming services. One minor complaint: the ads for other Roku services are pretty tacky. Others may not care but I would pay a little extra to have them gone (ex. Amazon Kindle "Special Offers"). Great TV for the price, I doubt you'd get much better without spending a lot more for OLED.

This TV is all it's cracked up to me. Do not be fooled by other TCL's that are the same size and price and say 4K. This one is the real deal.

5 stars is for the performance to price ratio. This is not the best TV out there but it is, at least currently, the best TV in this price range. I opted for in store pick up to minimize potential for delivery damage. No damage to box or TV inside. Screen uniformity is great so long as it's receiving a source/signal. The only time you can see uniformity issues is on brief black screen of menus or changing inputs. No dirty screen with white or gray images as well. Using the phone app is a must for calibrating picture. Noticed horrible motion blur on our 1st movie until I realized noise reduction was on, turning this completely off is a must! Picture is fantastic in 4k source material but very good down to 720p as well. Sound is ok for news at best but I'm running surround system so it's a non issue for me. PS4 is great and game mode makes for snappy input lag. My entire home is ROKU so there was nothing new with interface with exception that this set is pretty quick. I have yet to try over the air. We have several TCL ROKU sets in the kid's rooms and haven't had a single issue in the couple years of ownership. Hoping this set is as trouble free!

I bought this tv with high expectations after reading all the positive reviews. But right out of the box i was pretty disappointed it the picture quality and i thought i made a mistake. Then i used rtings.com for all the specific setup tweaks and settings and it became everything i hope for! Beautiful 4k picture and very nice hdr! Verrrrry worth the price! Just make sure you use the phone roku app to change the advanced settings that you can't access from the remote alone.

    I have dead pixels.

I've been using my 55P605 for about five weeks now. It's a great set for the price. Deep blacks and the colors are really beautiful. My issue is that I already have dead pixels. The "allowable amount" according to TCL's policy is 2 per million. Which means I need 16 pixels to go out before having any recourse. Kinda sucks when you have a noticeable amount of dead pixels, but apparently not enough for them to do anything about it. Anyway, the actual performance is great if you want to take your chances.

Almost great except for dead pixels

I want to love this TV, I mean it does have a great picture except mine has dead pixels right in the middle of the screen! I don't know if it's one pixel or a few in a bunch but right in the middle of the screen is unexceptionable! I could live with it in the corners on the edges, but can't stand it in the middle, as once you notice it you can not unnoticed it. I contacted TCL and they will not provide warranty on it, they said it has to be 16 pixels for them to cover it! 16, come on! I worry about how long this TV will last as I'm having an issue less then a month after I got it, and couldn't return it as it was over 15 days. I don't think TCL is going to have great support and stand behind their TV's in the long run. I didn't by the Bestbuy warranty as I wasn'y offered it, but I called Best buy to see if they service it and I am willing to pay to get it fixed, they said it's not enough pixels that they can do anything, so even if I bought the warranty I don't think they would cover it. So buyer beware, if you get a good one you will get a nice TV, but if not you will be left regretting your purchase as I am now.

A budget tv with the features of a premium tv

I have wanted a 4K HDR tv for awhile however my budget is minimal. While researching tvs I came across this tv. Every review I found from experts said this had all the features that should be in a modern 4K tv at a budget price and they where right. 4K HDR 10 and Dolby Vision looks amazing. The best videos I have found are on YouTube as I don't have a 4K Blu-Ray player yet. The vibrant colors and detail makes it like I can almost feel the textures on objects.Tbe ROKU interface is fast and nice. I have every streaming service I could want. It's perfect for the Xbox one x when it comes out as it has all the features that are needed to get the most out of the system. It has many more features that I am not going to talk about because frankly they are over my head. All I know is a picture is worth a 1000 words. The bestbuy delivery men where great. They took great care with the box and getting it up my stairs. They where also very friendly. Highly recommend this.

Great features, huge bang for your buck

I was on the fence about moving to 4k, I wanted FALD and Dolbyvision in a tv at least 55" but nothing was affordable. I started reading tech reviews of this tv and all were stunned by the features and quality of the image for such a low price and named it the best budget 4k set out there with features and performance of TV's costing twice as much, so when it became available I ordered one. So glad I did. it has the best colors and blackest blacks of any tv I've owned, and the low input lag was a must as I plan on using this with an XBOX ONE X when its available. The Roku interface is quick and responsive, and I've owned several Roku devices in the past so it was also familiar. You can stream 4K so it has to be the higher-end 4K Roku which is $100+ by itself. I would recommend this tv to anyone looking for a full featured 4k tv at a bargain basement price.

    Awesome TV for the $$$

If you are on a budget and need a nice HDR TV that is 4k for your Xbox One X...this is the tv for you. Picture quality is exactly what I wanted for the price range. I got this for $600 and I think it's a steal. I wanted an upgrade and I wanted the HDR for my new Xbox One X. Picture quality is great. Speaker quality is good as well. Of course, if viewing from an angle, the picture will diminish a bit but that was the least of my concerns. I wanted a low-latency and low-input lag TV that I primarily use for gaming. This was the lowest input lag TV that has 4k and HDR compatibility. What more could you possibly want? This thing is future proof. I love it.

Had it for 9 months and it deserves a review!

I was nervous about this purchase being so much cheaper than the alternatives, but hey, I’m cheap so that’s the direction I went - and it was totally the right move!! After having the TV for about nine months I felt that everyone needed to know how good this thing is. The picture quality is awesome the user interface and remote are surprisingly simple, and I look at it every day thinking how much money I saved compared to some of the other options and smile. I’m sure some TV nerd could tell me that the picture quality or the color or something is fractionally worse than a Sony or something but at this level of HD / HDR it all looks like a live image staring back at me. No way could I tell the difference. Totally would recommend this to anybody considering a TV of this size. SUCH A GREAT VALUE!

Great picture, good sound, excellent value

Overall I love this TV. The picture is great, and the sound is good enough even using the internal speakers. (I'll be adding my surround amp later) I did have two issues which were NOT defects but design quirks: 1, Plugging in the headset mutes the speaker. I use wireless headphones and keep the transmitter plugged into the jack. This works great on other TVs and I use the settings to turn off the speakers if I want them off. It is very inconvenient to plug and unplug the headphones since the jack is behind the screen and difficult to reach. 2, The Roku "Feed" does not seem to collect my favorite shows as I expected. I "follow" a number of shows and have more selected as "favorite" in various apps, but I can't find them listed anywhere so I can play them. I end up having to go to the specific app and find the shows all over again.

    WOW FACTOR

Following reviews at CNET & PC Magazine, who called this brand, TCL, as offering the "Best Picture for the Money", and slew of complaing customer reviews about White Lines & Dirty Screen Effect, on the latest S series, we opted for the safe R series, which had more satisfactory reviews. The only real difference is 72 local dimming zones vs 128, a difference we could live with, especially at a Clearance Price. It only took 2 hrs to get operational. The picture is beautiful, its very easy to use, the sound is good enuf'. Our only letdown, would be a too small (cramped" remote that should be backlit, so you can see what you are doing at night. ALL TOLD, A SUPER BUY-WE ARE 69 & 62, SO THIS is an important part of our entertainment & we deeply appreciate the ease of use.

Just bought this TV last week and let me tell you it was worth all the research I did the weeks prior. Everything is a plus here, price, functionality, esthetics, and picture quality.I am still tweaking the picture settings for gaming and movies as well as everyday cable tv which by the way looks great thanks to the upscaling feature of the tv.I do miss the motion flow ( soap opera effect) my Sony had but it is easy to get use to the beauty of the ultra HD and 4K images without it.Gaming on my ps4 pro has never looked or played so amazing. Very happy with my purchase! Do yourself a favor and trust the reviews buy this TV!!!

Amazing TV for 4K and HDR! (Xbox One X ready)

I owned a Vizio M Series for several years, and I decided that it was time to make the leap to 4K and HDR based on the fact that I plan to buy an Xbox One X in November. I first purchased a 55" LeEco Super4 X55 on clearance at Walmart for $349, but I kept reading things about this TCL TV. I am really glad that I decided to buy this, as the picture quality difference particularly with HDR is staggering. Planet Earth II on 4K Blu-ray HDR playing through my Xbox One S is hard to describe how awesome it looks, and even my wife who isn't a big technology person could not believe how incredible content looks on this TV. The Roku OS is also a nice bonus given how many streaming apps (including Amazon Video) are available. This is hands down the best quality TV for the price that I have ever personally purchased!

Did plenty of research prior to buying and knew I could not afford the high end, big name brands, but wanted something that could compete. Wow, certainly does. The picture quality is amazing and compares to display models up to $1000 dollars more. Colors are vibrant, whites are white and blacks most definitely black, not dark gray. Sound is ok, but I have a Sony sound bar and subwoofer hooked up to the HDMI Arc and that works perfectly. Love the Roku system, easy to use and understand. I would REALLY recommend this TV.

Best valued TV on the market

For 2017 this TV was universally agreed upon by reviewers to be just that. The quality of picture for the price is phenomenal. If your looking for a TV on a budget that has the tech that will be good for years to come, I suggest this one. Most 55" 4K TV's with HDR & Dolby Vision are over $1000. One thing people said is they wish this came in a 65" model. For my, personally, 55" was just the right size. I have read that this spring they are coming out with the 2018 model, which will have a nicer looking bezel to it.
