Received tv 11/2017. Suddenly I am unable to adjust backlight or tv brightness settings (darker , brighter settings appear the same) . My TV set is stuck on bright no matter how much I adjust settings. Watching movie at night in dark room is out of the question with the brightness stuck so bright . First tv I had that didn’t last more than 5 years. Disappointed since it was great until now.

Light Bleed from the 4 corners

Got this TV last Saturday. After hooking it up and updating it the image quality was not there. Washing Dolby hdr on Netflix was a horrible experience and I a very good internet connection. The picture was not smooth and was grainy. Light bleed from the 4 corners. Returning it today. Also it does not scale lower quality videos from air TV or internet well. Anime and video games look ok just not Movies or TV.

Lower price, disappointing performance

Bought due to rave reviews and lowest price for features. I calibrated picture carefully, but there was unacceptable dimming in corners in bright scenes and lightening of corners in dark scenes. Distorted some shades of yellow and red.. Blu-Ray playback was not as good as the 5 year old TV it replaced. Ultimately I spent $100 more for the Vizio M55 which has none of these issues. Happy with the M55.

Time has shown how bad it is

I’ve had this tv for over 4 years now and I can say that it’s fine, at best. I like the picture quality mostly but over time I notice more and more it’s shortcomings, specifically when there is a dark scene the backlights will literally just strobe even when dynamic contrast is turned off. Sometimes the screen will also just flash white while streaming. It’s pretty ok for gaming though I have my ps5 on it and it runs well. When using the Nintendo Switch, game mode HAS to be turned on or the lag is unbearable. The final things about the tv which I actually like are that it got updated for AirPlay and the Roku remote app is a good feature.

No Geek Squad support!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I bought this TV 3 months ago and until yesterday I was delighted with the picture and performance and price.
Yesterday the screen started going black sporadically while sound and signal continued in the background. No problem, I thought. I have Geek Squad on it for 2 years. I called and they scheduled a visit for today. Today, the Geek Squad guy got here and showed me an email they sent him saying not to come to my house. Apparently TCL is no longer allowing Geek Squad to work on their TVs during the MANUFACTURER'S warranty period. Now I have to deal with TCL tech support.
I bought the TV at Best Buy and the Geek Squad protection because I wanted to deal with BEST BUY! I'm aggravated and very likely to get my money back on the protection plan that I can't even really use for the first year.
I'll update this review when I'm done with TCL support but I'm not happy at all.

Purchased on 12/3/17, on 12/14/17 a black horizontal line of dead pixels appeared across the screen completely ruining the picture. I have never had a TV with this issue or any TV with this type of serious problem so quickly after purchasing. Spend your money on a better product.

Great Roku Interface - Volume Issues
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I really want to like this TV especially the Roku interface. The picture is decent but not as good as a Samsung. The main inherent problem is the sound volume. Sound is great on normal broadcast. But when you switch to streaming the sound volume drops . To equal broadcast sound you have to crank volume to 100 and it's not enough. 100 is the highest it goes. After several back and forth with Tcl and them changing the board they stated that TV is operating normally. Meaning that that's how the TV is designed. So there you go people. I returned the TV and got a Samsung instead.

Dead Pixel-otherwise great TV

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Pros
-Deep blacks
-Fast response time for gaming
-Great Colors and HDR
Cons
-Dead pixel which vexes me, probably not the greatest quality control
-not great screen uniformity
Wondering if I can exchange this for a unit with no dead pixels?

Dim Corners
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I am disappointed in this purchase, the corners and to a certain extent the sides have a dim grey quality to them. This is noticeable in all ranges of color/brightness/contrast settings I have tried, and I have yet to find any setting combination that improves this issue.
Perhaps I have gotten a dud. (I'd note that each of the corners seems to have a different level of dimness, indicating some type of defect with my model rather than a general problem with the product). I have reached out to TCL customer service to see if there is a fix to this, and will update if and when this issue has been resolved.
It would be a shame if I cannot get this resolved, as the functionality and features of the TV seem to be very good, improving upon the functionality I have experienced with a Roku streaming stick in the past.

Good value/Picture not bright enough

I was looking for a new 4K TV that wouldn't break the bank. After sorting through pages of reviews, I decided to purchase this TCL. Brought it home and connected it. Setup was quick and easy. Initial impression was lack luster. The picture was decent, but the colors were dull and much too dark. I went through every adjustment, but I could never get it to an acceptable point. Ultimately, I returned the tv and purchased a more expensive Samsung.

Poor design even poorer customer service

This tv was bought as a Christmas present. While hooking up the tv the PLASTIC coaxial connector twisted off of the tv body. Either the glue let go or the ultrasonic weld was bad. POOR DESIGN. I was treated horribly at the best buy store and told that this is a low line tv. Well, tcl's lower line tvs have a much more robust coaxial fitting. So best buy will not do anything"physical damage" and the manufacturer will do nothing"physical damage"., it will cost me $200 to fix a week old tv. While this tv does have a wonderful picture, for the $800 that I have spent on it I should have went to almost anywhere but best buy and bought a Samsung." Merry Christmas" from best buy

Maybe I got a defective unit?

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The set I received had terrible motion: it was choppy - not smooth. I called TCL and they tried to blame my internet speed. I have 50MBPS, the manual stated that I need a minimum 25MBPS, which I supplied double it's recommended stated minimum.
I unplugged all other gadgets from my high speed connection and wired the TV in using Ethernet cable. Still the motion was choppy. I restarted the tv several times and unplugged it. Nothing could fix the motion that appeared to be a motion processor issue. The speed of the motion occasionally looked to drop and make motion look slowed and unfocused - a drop in speed and resolution. Or the motion chopped- looked like rather than an image moving in motion it was jumping or jittering.
This TV was a huge disappointment but I am so happy that Best Buy took it back and tried to understand me and what I didn't like. This is why I continue to shop at Best Buy but I believe I will stick to the name brands like Samsung, Sony and LG.

TCL TV HORRIBLE

I purchased TV in 3/2018 and first month no issues. 2nd month it had issues with staying connected to Netflix mostly, then gradually resets while in Prime and Hulu. NOW I can't even keep on the basic Antenna channels. It shuts itself off and restarts constantly and will not show anything. I am outside the return date to Best Buy but hoping I can get some reprieve from the company. I should have read the reviews on the internet before purchase. Horrible, Horrible, Horrible TV. Surprised it is even allowed in a store to sell.

Great Picture Terrible QC

Picture looks great, even better in HDR. Dolby Vision does not look that great, way to dark. Something must be up with this set when DV is enabled, HDR is bright, vibrant just looks so much better.
Main problem is the horrible Quality Control, my set had a defective panel, but I guess you get what you pay for.

What is the big deal?
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I personally don't see wht the big deal is. It has a peak of 700 lumens. Low end samsung 4k tv's have a 1000. Everyone here keeps comparing it to the samsung, sony, and LG OLED tv's when, in reality, it doesn't stack. To be honest, it's better than the Insignia picture quality due to the HDR factor, And I mean barely. The HDR zone is very waterd down, probably about 50-65% color coverage of the HDR zone. The fact is, if your replacing a old LED TV it will look better. 3840 pixels is obviously better than 1080. The big reason why you buy a better, more expensive tv, is so it looks great, and looks great it's whole life which on industry standard is 7-10 years. If you buy this, be prepared to come back in a year and spend another 500. Because that's it's life expectancy if your lucky.

Sorry you weren't as impressed as the majority of reviewers and users. It has even already garnered several "Best of 2017 Awards". Colorspace is approaching 100% of the DCIP3 colorspace coverage. And as the third largest manufacturer of TVs in the world, we pride ourselves on a great lifespan.
Hope that helps,

Issue after less than 3 months of use...

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I'll try this here since TCL hasn't responded to my email on the issue. I purchased the 55P605 model TCL back in early November 2017 from Best Buy. Unfortunately when I turned the TV on recently I noticed a thin (but very noticeable) vertical red line that runs from top to the bottom of the TV. I have tried a complete factory reset and unplugging the TV as well to no avail in fixing the issue. This issue appears on the "Home" screen as well so it's not a faulty cable. Also, this seemingly just happened after the TV updated to the 8.0 firmware. What should be my next course of action?
