Great Budget 4K Set with HDR10 & Dolby Vision

When my 10-year-old Samsung 52" set died on me back in September, I needed a replacement set ASAP and a quick search for a budget 4K set to replace it brought my attention to this TV by TCL. I would estimate that it has about 90% the picture quality at about 25% of the cost of my father's LG B6 OLED TV. The Roku interface for this TV is a breeze to use. The contrast and colors on this TV blows my old Samsung LCD out of the water on SDR content and HDR content is simply amazing. The only thing that keeps it from a 5-star rating is that the brightness is a bit uneven, which is a known issue with this set. The only time I really notice this is in menus, especially with the grey background on the Amazon Video app. Otherwise, I love this TV as I was expecting to pay quite a bit more for HDR support and this one manages to support both standards currently out there - HDR10 and Dolby Vision. Both formats look great on this set.

I love this tv! When the salesman told me it was basically a roku+tv I was sold immediately . I don’t have cable so all I do is use apps to watch my shows. This tv is absolutely perfect for those people like me who hate cable/ dish and only like to watch Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc ! It was so easy to set up and the picture quality is amazing . I had never heard of this tv before I walked into Best Buy , originally going in to purchase a Vizio. I’m very happy with this TV ! I want to get another for my bedroom soon!

The TCL 55P605 is a great TV that rivals those in the $900+ range. What's great about this TV is that it uses Roku and comes with integrated WiFi. It felt a bit unnatural at first to only plug in the power cable and I was ready to instantly watch my favorite shows and movies. All in all, the setup process was a breeze. The image quality is great. The sound is decent. The Roku user interface is easy to navigate. The only negative thing I can think of is the Roku app (for mobile phones). At times, it is unresponsive and the option to use the keyboard on the app usually does not work...but I still give this TV a full 5-star regardless.

I can not complain about the price. 4K, HDR, good input selection, and built in Roku! The menus are very well optimized, which is the main reason I went with a Roku TV, as I've used 3rd party smart TV apps that are AWFUL to navigate. This is not one of those. Many many options for streaming. I would reccomend you buy the same TV but with the better remote. This one is IR and operates on line of sight, the buttons are cheaper, and you can not do private listening with headphones from this remote. Other than that, very happy with the purchase! Still going strong!

I have used Roku for years, this TV with built in Roku is more responsive than others I have. One feature that definitely makes this better is all inputs are right on the main Roku menu, no more need to select input once it's set up, just select it as a channel. I have nothing at all negative except maybe why is power plug on side opposite of input/output connections making cord management not as easy.

I'd never heard of TCL until I saw a few reviews of their products on rtings.com. This screen came highly recommended. I was originally going for a Sony Bravia but the price and feature set lured me in TCL's direction. I was NOT disappointed. The pictures fantastic, the low input lag is great for gaming, along with the 4k HDR, and the smart features offer an abundance of ways to enjoy my favorite content. Don't hesitate to pull the trigger if you're in the market for a great tv at a low price. Just buy it.

I reviewed this TV for over a month before pulling the trigger and I couldn't be more pleased in my decision. The fact that this TV comes with HDR, Dolby Vision, wide color gamut, full array local dimming with 72 zones, and an input lag of 15ms in game mode all built in at this price range is really unheard of. I have this in a dark room so the fact that this isn't the brightest TV doesn't effect me much. Great for gaming on my Xbox One X!

You'll obviously find better features and visuals on other TVs, but at a much higher price. Calibration was easy. Having to use the mobile app for some "advanced" features was somewhat odd, but posed little problem. Looks fine without calibration. The built-in Roku app is responsive and easy to use. Remote is simplistic and easy to use. Few superfluous buttons. HDMI-ARC paired to a Samsung soundbar without problems once I remembered to activate it in settings. The local dimming is pretty lackluster and disappointing. While I would like local-dimming, the TV looks great with it disabled. Haven't had a chance to test the HDR features yet, but other reviews suggest good results. Sound was lacking, but buying a soundbar was part of the original plan.

I've had this TV for a month and here is the reason I give it 4 stars. Pros: this TV shines with 4k content and gaming. I have an LG 4k player with Dolby Vision and movies look great. I don''t have any 4k games, but my current games look sharp and vivid. Also, black levels are inky and even though it's a 60 htz tv, motion is pretty good. I had a Sceptre 4K tv and this TCL tv is way better. Cons: cable TV isn't sharp. If this isn't important to you, then get this TV. Only 3 HDMI ports, so I have my cable box, Xbox One S, and 4K player plugged in those ports and have my PlayStation 4 unplugged until I want to play it. One of the HDMI ports is the ARC. Conclusion, the TV isn't bad for the price. If you're a decent budget 4K player that plays DV, this is the one (or the 2018 version) for you.

Amazing blacks, superb Roku integration, incredibly vivid colors, and one of the best remotes out there. Be aware that if you are mounting this TV, be prepared to go out and get a set of M6 x 40 screws, possibly longer. Washers will help as well. Very pleased with this purchase. Worth at least four times its price.

I have had this a month and a half and I'm pleased with my choice. There are better TV's out there (OLED etc.) but the picture is much better than my 9 year old SONY 1080p TV. I purchased a swivel counter-top stand to add space under the screen for my new, dumb, 4K Blu-ray player. As an added benefit whichever side of the room I'm on I have a near straight on view of the screen. I was able to gift my smart 1080p Blu-ray player and my ROKU player and slightly reduced my power consumption (amperage draw while in use). The TV turns on fast so it may use more power over time.

I spent a lot of time researching 4k TV's when we decided to upgrade this year. After reading on The Wirecutter that this was the "Best 4K TV for Most People" we took the plunge and LOVE the TV. For the price you can't beat the picture quality and the Roku TV integration works well. We also use it for video gaming and content running in 1080P which the TV upscales shows up crystal clear. All in all just a fantastic TV.

I did quite a bit of research before purchasing this tv and have to agree with most other reviews. This tv for the money is not beatable by any others on the market. It's closest competitor would be the Vizio m series but those do not include a built in TV Tuner and only one hdmi 2.0 compatible input. Not to mention the ease of use with the tcl built in roku software. All in all this tv is as good as it gets at this price range. I would definitely recommend this tv to anyone looking for all the newer features in today's TVs that isn't looking to pay the price for oled.

This black Friday I researched and came to the conclusion that this TV was the perfect one for gaming, movie and TV watching. Once you buy this TV, make sure you calibrate it! The colors will be perfect, your blacks dark and your whites bright! Gaming is perfect with nearly 20 ms (millisecond) input lag, great colors due to the HDR and crisp picture. Movies and general TV are awesome to watch with this TV as well.

Replaced an on older "smart" TV that I paid 3X as much for several years ago and it's amazing how much better this TCL TV is all around. When watching movies it is amazing how dark the black areas of the screen can get while still getting incredibly bright in colorful areas. It's even more impressive when you watch a Dolby Vision movie - which are easy to find with the Roku platform. Ignoring the amazing picture, it would have been worth replacing my TV just for the Roku TV platform. It has all of my favorite apps (my last TV was missing several of the major ones) - and is not missing any of them so I don't need to connect additional boxes or sticks - and they are so easy to access and arrange right on the main screen when you turn the TV on.

The TCL 55 LED - 2160p - Smart - 4K Ultra HD TV with High Dynamic Range Roku is a great deal at a little over $600 out the door. The functionality with its Roku OS and 4K UHD are awesome. The set up was a breeze. No issues connecting it to my wifi network and various devices. Screen projecting from my laptop is easy and effective. The 2 issues that I have currently that keep me for 5 stars. The color rendering is not quite right, especially when projecting from my laptop. Its too red and the color controls are on the TV are not easy to find/navigate. Also, there is a slight lag streaming video to the TV. I am not sure if that is a network issue, but my speed is quite high and I am using a high end dual band netgear router. I hope to address these issues and if I can get them sorted out easily, I'd give the set 5 stars.

For the price this is incredible. Bright HDR, Roku UI is user friendly, plenty of options to tweak the picture settings to my liking. An OLED is better of course but in my opinion not worth over twice the price of this set. My favorite visual moment so far is Horizon Zero Dawn in HDR on the PS4 pro. And by the way the cash I saved vs going OLED paid for a PS4 pro, several games and 4k blu rays played on my xbox one s.

I’m a bit of an A/V geek and this T.V. checked all of the boxes of my wants in a new T.V. The picture quality is top notch. I have my audio through a receiver, so I can not speak to the audio. The Roku interface is, IMO, the best for streaming. Dolby Vision and HDR really pop with the local dimming on this T.V. I am recommending this to all of my friends, especially from the value aspect of this T.V. Only con would be they didn’t have a 65-70 inch version of the TCL line.

Dont be fooled by the brand name TCL. I could have easily afforded one of the higher brand name models but after researching the history of TCL it was evident TCl 55 inch Roku was the brightest 4K Star in the entry level UHD Galaxy. The picture is atonishing, amazing in the under $1000.00 range. 72 zones of local dimming that work quite well, for $600.00 youre getting Dolby Vision and HDR 10, and full backlight LED, Wide Color Gammut....Come on now...Its a no brainer...TCL

I set out to find a high-value 4K TV to go with my Xbox One X. I didn't have a couple thousand dollars to spend so after a couple weeks of research I selected this model and I'm extremely glad I did!!! The picture quality is just as good as any Vizio LG Samsung or Sony that I've seen and the local dimming feature is incredible at producing true blacks. If you want a great TV but don't want to spend a few thousand dollars to obtain it this is your best bet! I've worked in consumer electronics for the last dozen years so you could say have a little experience in this regard. I also really enjoy the roku-based smart TV software. It is very simple and user friendly.
