This is a older video that we have not seen and was delighted when I was able to purchase it from BestBuy at a good price so my wife and I can watch it anytime we want.

THE ALAMO WAS JUST THE BEGINNING Truly, one of America’s great dramas that just “must be seen and then remembered!” It portrays, perhaps, a very important chapter of American History. The Director Roland Joffe, who put-it-all together, and the Cinematographer Arthur Reinhart who had a “Knack” catching the marvelous vistas and colors of the West, were the drivers of the film that made this moving-picture a memorable viewing experience

This miniseries depicts the Texas War of Independence. The action is gritty and the violence occasionally graphic. The characters are portrayed as down to earth people with very realistic character flaws and quirks, not idealized saints or paragons of virtue. Although the general events portrayed are historically accurate, many of the lesser incidents and dramatic action show a great deal of artistic license. Not recommended for history buffs, but recommended for anyone looking for a western miniseries that does not take itself too seriously.

I bought this as a gift for someone who loves history and is more into non-fiction film than fiction. So I haven't actually watched this. However, the person I bought this for as a gift loved it and pretty much watched the entire thing in less than a day (it's 7 and a half hours long). He had said it was really good and he learned some interesting things.

I'll start by correcting an error on the Best Buy website, the Blu-Ray movie consists of TWO Discs NOT THREE as advertised. The Texas Rising mini-series represents an attempt to depict the History of Texas following the battle for the Alamo and those events which eventually lead to it becoming an Independent Republic. I would caution both History Buffs and those who have read the book Duel of Eagles authored by Jeff Long not to expect too much as they will surely be disappointed. That said, the scenery and character depiction are both quite good. Finally this HBO presentation is not in any way equal to that of Band of Brothers or The Pacific mini-series. Overall good entertainment with factual liberties taken in its production.

Everyone involved in this series did an outstanding job. The History Channel did a nice job in presenting all of the problems that the Texas folks faced when trying to gain their independence from Mexico. Portrayed heroes and bad guys as real people. Well done.

First, I asked the first associate I saw if the Texas Rising was in and they said yes and walked me to it. The price was lower than Walmart, Target and Kmart. The Product itself is in excellent condition and I know if it was not I could return it with no problem. I have watched it two times and look forward to the third.

Being from Texas (and a retired State Peace Officer) I ALWAYS look forward to ANY project that reflects the grand past of this great state. Texas Rising didn't fail to tell a grand tale with a likeable cast and ambitious production values. Better yet, it tells the story every Alamo movie doesn't, Bravo!

With a great cast, The History Channel Does it again. If you like history, westerns, drama, action and suspense than this is a great mini series. Done in the same vein as The Hatfield's and McCoy's. I highly recommend it.

it is a good show and as someone from Texas I definitely appreciate it. it is not 100% accurate but they definitely capture the personalities of those they are playing and overall it is made well. I got a good price at Best Buy and I would definitely recommend checking it out.

I had watched most of the series on the History Channel, but missed parts of it. While some liberties were taken with respect to actual Texas history, it was enjoyable.

I watched this when it was on T.V. and loved it. I had to buy it for a good friend who is from Texas, but he missed most of it when it was on T.V.. What he saw of it he loved it. Great Christmas present for him this year.

The history might not be accurate, but the spirit of Texas comes through strong. My 2nd grade son loved this movie and identified with Texas pride. He knows this history pretty well and the movie reinforced his interest

Highly recommend this movie. We enjoyed it. You won’t be disappointed at all.

It's Texas history at its best great actors and a great piece of history about pepole who died for Texas. Most were from other states. That's what makes America so great we have each other's back.

I knew when I watched this on TV I had to own it if it came out on blue ray. Story telling at it's best! If you want Texas history this is for you.

A very well done movie about the exciting and often turbulent story of how Texas became independent from Mexico. A great cast and closer to the truth then any other movie up to this point.

This was a very good history movie about the rise of Texas to a becoming a state. I loved the whole thing from start to finish very well put together as entertainment and a history lesson

Being from Texas, I had an interest in adding this miniseries to my collection. Despite the fine acting and production values, this mniseries fell short of my expectations.

I'm a lifelong Texan, and I learned a some things watching this mini-series... and I also noticed several places where they strayed from the facts! But overall, I loved it!
