This 1958 western has a top notch cast, with surprising reverse roles for Charlton Heston, Burl Ives and Chuck Connors, who usually are considered heroes rather than villains. The plot is centered around water rights feuds among ranchers. The hero, Gregory Peck, who is from the big city, doesn't believe in violence, and is labeled a coward. The women, Carroll Baker and Jean Simmons, find themselves involved in his on again off again romances. Who will ultimately prevail and solve the feud is spelled out over this 170 minute epic.

Bought it for my aunt, she loves the old western movies. Movie was good and has a solid cast.

I love westerns...! After feeling like I've seen every great western out there, I started searching and hoping to find another. Finally I ran across this one, "The Big Country, on Blu-Ray." Every actor in here gives an excellent performance. Great music, great cinematography, and western landscape. If you feel like there's no more great westerns to watch, and you missed this one, get it, you'll love it...

What a great movie. The Big Country is a classic western that will never grow old. All Star cast, flawless acting, solid character development, and action packed. The skillfully developed story line creates a powerful presentation of good and evil human personalities, traits, conflicts, and interaction.

I bought this blu-ray during the father's day sale to upgrade my dvd copy of this movie. I haven't watched the blu-ray just yet, but as to the quality of the movie, it is superb. Fans of Gregory Peck, Charlton Heston or any of the other characters will find them giving great performances. A particular standout is Burl Ives.

A good example of a great movie that is not quite as well known as others of the genre. Boasting an all-star cast, an outstanding director and sweeping cinematography; it is a must have for any Western fan. Of note is also the unforgettable theme music. I had this movie on DVD and jumped at the chance to upgrade it to Blu-ray.

This is one of those life lessons movies. There are many of those movies made in years past. This one teaches about humility and being a strong man - among other pluses. Many things that we need in our world right now. Pick it up and watch it. Gregory Peck is awesome in this movie.
