My wife, who loves historical novels, really got into this move and so did I. Amazed that there are so many of these type stories that now are coming to light and being made into first rate movies. If you enjoy high drama in the setting of the years preceding the Civil War, this is a movie for you. We enjoyed and trust that you will too.

Nat Turner's infamous slave revolt is a story that has been debated about for many decades now. This movie does a great job in showing how Nat grew to become furious enough to revolt against the horrid existence that he was born into as a slave. The build is excellent, the acting is top notch, and the overall product is an emotional ride.

This is a must see movie with family and friends. It is a very close if not the closets rendition to actual events through out the movie. It is an emotional cliffhanger that takes and places you into the shoes of not only the main character but all supporting characters that one decision could forever effect the lives of the communities involved.

Really enjoyed this great movie! The movie was basically about the brace slave soul of Nat Turner. He was encourage to use Christianity as a instrument to tame the slaves on near Southampton plantation. This movie was based on true historical facts about Nat Turner's life and the slaves that were influenced by his religious gifts and mannerisms.

This movie is about Nat Turner a slave and a preacher, who's financial strained owner,Samuel Turner, accepts a offer to use Nat's preaching to subdue unruly slaves. The atrocities that Nat see's finally breaks him and he becomes a leader of the revolution that in our history nobody knows or cares about. Fantastic history lesson

A tru story of a prophet, minister, leader and hero for all the people in the struggle! Story of a man who died 4 a cause! Should b immortal! A tru legend v and soldier! He was a heto of his people! Everyone should c this one! U cant go wrong! Trust me u willl want more! Nat turner a real hero who died like a man 4 his cause!

A must see movie that gave a relevant and accurate rendition, that will engross you into the main character and the many trials of wanting to be recognized as a person by simply learning to read. However has to be forced back to the current times of slavery and the inferiority complex of many white slave owners of the land.

The original Birth of the Nation was the first widely distributed film in the US. It was a brilliant technical achievement, using production and storytelling techniques that were innovative and that we take for granted todAy. Unfortunately, it was a racist history of the KKK. The new film is more worthy of the name.

Whenever I see a movie that's supposed to be a true story, I look for all the details. The movie left out that his wife and child were sold to another plantation and that plantation was exempt from his killing spree of the slave owners. Plus they showed people all outraged about his uprising, but never told the reason why. If it were men fighting men, it would be a fair fight, but the reality was that he killed 50 white people including 10 children under 16 plus infants in the cribs. His religious bible study led him to believe that he was directed by God to kill all ALL men, women and children, as they did in Canaan.. Plus his original slave owner had died and he was inherited by another member, who was mean. Original owner was treating him well. other than that, it was a good film about slave mistreatment

At least this version had sound. Beyond that, how do you follow up a classic? Watch it still; it stands on its own.

This is a "FANTASTIC FILM"...A Must-See!!! This film was very enlightening to me on so many levels; mostly because I'd never been taught in school the back ground story of the imfamous Nat Turner! *Everyone should see this film especially young African Americans! And the extras are just as fantastic!!!

This is based on a true story and is a painful reminder of a terrible part of US History. We must never forget our shameful past. The most important lesson that history can teach us is not to repeat our mistakes. We must value everything and everybody, and treat them with the respect they deserve.

Bought this movie without having first seen it so didn't expect much and wasn't overly impressed.

I really enjoyed The Birth of a Nation movie. In my opinion I'm tired of seeing slave movies that show black people always as slaves. We were once kings and queens that people from Europe came to learn from. And I would like to see a more positive note of African Americans instead of seeing them being whipped and tortured all the time. This will be the last slave movie I will purchase.

We had planned to see this movie in theaters as a family with my mother-in-law, but we just got to see it now and it was good. Certain parts of our history are omitted from the history books and need a light shined on them. This was a good movie about Nat Turner

THE BIRTH OF A NATION is a brilliant film, portraying the Nat Turner Slave Rebellion in Virginia in 1831. It brings to the viewer a better understanding of the issue of slavery in America before the Civil War, and is worth having in one's personal collection.

This is a well planned, well thought out movie. Yes, the subject matter is difficult, especially in this day and time. We should never fear history but learn from it. The struggle for many people in this country goes on and we would all be better off if we sat down and watched movies like this together. Great price, as usual, with my reward certificate.

Valid history through the eyes of a man who turned the other cheek but yet challenged racism and white supremacy once he grew tired of seeing his people suffer. If you would like to have a true understanding of black history I recommend this movie.

Birth of a Nation tells the story of Nat Turner and the rebellion he led. A story of courage at a time when courage was detrimental to life for some people. A story of cruelty perpetrated by evil men, a story of love and a story everyone should see.

I would definitely recommend this movie. It tells some brutal truths about the time and the story of Nat Turner and the cruelty of slavery, which is why it's a need to see movie in helping to understand the importance of equality for everyone.
