Best Open World Rpg for its Time

The reason I say that this game is better than Skyrim is because I honestly enjoyed this game WAY MORE than I did Skyrim. Yes the Xbox 360 had just come out and this was a game that had never been made before. It's gameplay and graphics were beyond anything we've seen, and the story was compelling and believable, unlike Skyrim. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Skyrim, but here is why this game trumps Skyrim: 1)Difficulty- This game's difficulty when played on normal is extremely more difficult than Skyrim. Yes, since the monsters' strength kept increasing when you leveled force me to stop leveling at a point, I did so for 2 reasons. I leveled to the point where the monsters were really hard. I also leveled myself to a point where I didn't get mad because the monsters were near impossible to kill, especially the weakest ones. Skyrim on the other hand, got way too easy after I leveled up the weapons and armor. No challenge at all and the gameplay and fulfillment from playing the game diminished. 2) Story- Although the dragons is Skyrim was interesting, I was never fully into the storyline. Add that to the lack of difficulty and I never thought the "World" was in danger. Oblivion, however, had a great storyline and difficulty to it and made it feel believable and that you were the one true savor. 3) Ending- Oblivion's ending was dramatic and amazing. Very difficult and very over the top in a good one. Skyrim- Very disappointing and too easy. When it ended, I was like, "Seriously?!" It's the same feeling that you get when you watch a movie and it ends too early or Mass Effect 3 (if you know what I mean). This game has replay value unlike Skyrim. I'm not sure how it holds up now to other games, but I gaurantee there's better games out there than Skyrim, and one of them is Oblivion.

Original game froze on 'Caught in the hunt'

Original game froze on 'caught in the hunt' scenario. Went out and bought the game again, it froze on exactly the same place. Can't remember how many time this game has frozen up on me, but this time I couldn't get out of it. Lost 1 whole year of character development because I deleted all the saves I had on advice I saw on the internet. Then cleared out all updates. Ended up wiping out my character. A buggy game.

Best game I have played in a long time

The game is great, I love very long games that take forever to beat, they never get old for me this way. The graphics are great, the sound is awesome, the controlling is easy to get used to, the tutorial is very well inclined. The only problem is that the Game of the Year edition has a glitch in it when if you become a vampire and wish to cure it, the lady you need to take bloodgrass to will not accept it, even though she needs it for the cure to be made. You will need to get the original game without the expansions added to it to complete this quest, or you could do what I did and restart your game, sure it ticked me off, but luckily the game is so much fun I really didn't mind and I knew the gameplay better the second time around. Just save your game before you lay down each time to sleep and if you get bit by a vampire, go back to your last save and find somewhere else to lie down. the game is beyond worth it, limitless options, you can become a selection of many characters and you make them look the way you want them to and have the skills you want them to, I am honestly surprised that this game doesn't cost more for how much there is in it!!
Highly recommended!

very great game, though it is shorter than morrowind for the origional xbox. the main mission with sidequests was shorter than i expected, even with the added on content. the game is easy to play, and wonderfully detailed.
the oblivion gates can seem repetative and often drawn out to long. the side mission range from escorting people to fight goblins, to my favorit mission, a house party where the goal is to kill all the quests or turn them against eachother and let the panic set in. overall a very good game worth the current price of $30. very detailed world full of items to find, and best of all if someone has something you want but can not afford, you could always pick pocket them or kill them and take it, be weary of guards though, they are a nuisance if you go to far out of line but nothing a good character cant handle. if you like this game i also recommend fallout 3 as well. same detail and freedom only it is set in a post appocolyptic world, and you have guns. very good quality just like bethesda company standards. keep up the great work.

I am a 30-something that used to play Dungeons & Dragons in my teens and early twenties until grown-up life got in the way. After my son bought his much longed-for PS3, I wanted a Roll Playing Game that would satisfy my hunger for the long-gone days of D&D.
After perusing all of the games at Best Buy, I took a chance on Oblivion. I was not familiar with it's history in the PC world. Lucky for me, my brother was with me and suggested that I would like the game. Wow! What a find!
My son and I have taken turns playing and watching each other...he chose a dark character and I chose a good one. It is like watching a different game when you compare the two adventures. There are so many castles, towns, weapons, armor, character classes, etc...I can't imagine how long it took them to make this game. It is packed full of things to explore and the clock on the wall of our family room just spins around and around in fast forward (that's the bad part!)
If you like RPG's, you will absolutely love Oblivion. I can't see me buying another game for many months.

I have played this game for 80+ hours and I have enjoyed every minute of it. But there is a MAJOR glitch/bug in the game. In this game if you get bitten by a vampire, you need to go to a church or buy an antidote so you will not become a vampire. If you don't cure the disease within 24 hours of game time and you sleep you will become a vampire. You will then continue playing the game as a vampire. This has some good points and some very bad points. You gain some really good abilities but you can't be in the sunlight so you always have to be outside at night........so, to make a long story short.....there is a quest that you can play that will have you collect a bunch of different items, give them to a witch and then she should make an antidote for being a vampire....THE MAJOR BUG in all versions of the game is that the game won't let you finish this quest!!!!!!! I have searched many different web sites and they all say the same thing.......you will have to play the rest of the game as a vampire........this is a really bad thing.....BELIEVE ME.......Now I have to start the entire game over!!!!!!!!!! So make sure to don't become a vampire......I wish I had the MASSIVE bit of advice.......But I have played this game for months.....and now I have to start the entire game over....but I am starting it over because this game is incredibly awesome......

If you have not played Elder Scrolls Oblivion at all and don't own the base game I recommend buying this all inclusive pack since it is a better deal than buying the base game and expansion (shivering isles separately). I believe the base game on the PS3 includes Knights of the Nine already since I recall doing the quests and never purchased the expansion.
If you don't know anything about this series try taking a look at the reviews for the base game (elder scrolls oblivion). Its by far the best RPG game I have ever played and I think its the best game out for the PS3.

For the people that talk about glitches in the game, I think you need to try a bit harder. It is obviously your SYSTEM not the GAME that is causing the issues. For those that talk about the Vampire "glitch" you most def. can cure yourself. You must go to the little old witch on the hill and collect the ingrediants for the vampire cure. For those who have not played this game, if you are into RPGs this is THE RPG of all time, hands down. This is my favorite game of all time and yes, I spent many many hours playing it. I never got bored and never once wanted to stop playing. You will not regret purchasing this game.

It's a good RPG for the PS3

Ok, I like RPG's and when I saw this one (on sale) I bought it. I have the intercooler on my 80GB 4 USB port PS3. The game starts of nice, and the graphics are actually quite good, not the BEST, but quite good.
After creating my character the game locked up. I had no choice but to reset, and had to START ALL OVER AGAIN. I got through the first part of the game, exiting the tunnels, and it locked up again. I had to go back through ALL OF THAT AGAIN. Ok now I'm starting to get upset.
Ok, I got through that and killed off a weekend with only 3 more lock ups during the weekend. Having played through about 45% of the game, including Shivering Isles, the random lock ups got the best of me, I removed the save data and all from the PS3 and sold off the game.
I want to get the game again, but I know that still the creators of the game have not FULLY addressed the lock up issues with the game, (and they do not plan to according to an email responce I received from them.)
I do know that this is not localized to just my PS3, or the 80 GB version either, it is ACROSS THE BOARD for ALL PS3's. If I wanted a game that locked up my system I would have gotten an X-box 360.
If you can deal with the random lockups then by all means get the game.

Now this is more than just your typical RPG, this is an entire world we're talking about here. The graphics are very realistic and very beautiful. The music is very nicely composed and the gameplay will keep you busy. I really enjoyed Oblivion and most RPG gamers would. Yes the game is long but I believe that's what we call gamming value. If you like RPG's then get this for the PS3.

This game is amazing, and will take you (If you don't play 24-7) about a year to actually finish every quest you can find. It's also fun, after you're done, to re-take the game to see how you would have fared with an archer instead of a wizard.

If you are an RPG fan, this game is for you! I picked this up last night and spent around 5 hours playing. I was a bit hesitant to buy because of the price, but after talking myself into seeing the fact that it was actually 3 games in 1 due to the expansions, I was satisfied.
Gameplay:
The game is absolutely beautiful if you have HD. My wife fell in love with the scenery at first site. There is a small learning curve in the beginning. Make SURE you read the documentation before starting. It will save you a ton of time. The buttons are a bit tedious at first, but once you get use to it, you will understand why they defaulted them the way they did. The in game menu system is very intuitive. It is a bit confusing at first, but like anything, once you learn it becomes easy.
Video:
720p? I don't understand why they didnt put this game in 1080i or 1080p. My guess is that there was not enough space on the disk to accomplish it.
Sound:
AWESOME! I dont have to say more.
Overall:
I think this game is an instant classic. Bethesda really raised the bar and the expectations with this game. I believe every RPG fan should have this on their shelf.

This game is really fun, u can be different races and practice what ever skills you want to. you can join 4 different guilds with many quests. the scenery looks awesome and really realistic. You can play in First person or 3rd, however you feel is best. You can customize your characters appearance, clothes, wepeons, and spells.
A lot of people are saying there is a vampire glitch where if u become a vampire you stay a vampire forever, well that is false. I personaly have gotten bitten by a vampire and have become a vampire. all you have to do to lose your vampirism is to do a quest that is pretty long.
I think this game is a MUST BUY game for the PS3.
