The Grand Budapest Hotel is truly Grand indeed

Wes Anderson is truly an auteur and a genius of modern film. Grand Budapest Hotel is hilarious but at the same time has an undertone of melancholy and sense of dread. It's as if a bad incident could be just around the corner. The acting in this film is also superb, Ralph Feinnes is just as stupendous as ever. New comer Tony Reviorori is great but so are all of the actors even in smaller or "side" roles. If your a fan of Wes Anderson films or movies in general I think you'll very much enjoy the Grand Budapest Hotel.

After seeing the trailer for this film, I was excited to see it. Of course, like so many other movies, I never had a chance to see it. I came across it while shopping for other items and decided it was time to watch it. I enjoyed everything about it from the style of storytelling to the wonderfully crafted characters. The film was simply delightful and I would certainly recommend it to others, especially if you're interested in a film that strays from the typical films being produced recently.

A highly unique film with outstanding art direction, costume design, and cinematography. This is the kind of film I love, one that you can not categorize but falls somewhere between the cracks of traditional description.
Just start watching and allow yourself to be carried along. If it works for you, congratulations. If not, you probably need a superhero blockbuster.

If you share any love for Wes Anderson's creative direction--you love Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Royal Tennenbaums, Darjing Unlimited, etc.-then you'll more than love this movie. I think it's by far his best movie to date. If you don't happen to love Wes's style of directing, I say give this movie a chance, but it's a Wes Anderson movie so maybe it won't be your thing. I personally love his movies and hated Moonrise Kingdom, so if you like Fantastic Mr. Fox, this movie is more in like with that, in my opinion.

This film should be viewed in HD on a high quality large screen, i.e. Not a phone, tablet or computer monitor. This is possibly the most beautifully filmed movie I've ever seen. The onscreen format changes throughout the film and represents differences in time periods. Each and every scene is framed as if they were works of art hanging in a museum. The story is quirky and fun, but not for children. This is a must see for anyone interested in cinema.

The mad adventures of the outrageous and unflappable Hotel concierge, Gustave H. and his sidekick, lobby boy Mr. Moustafa at the famously, fictional Grand Budapest Hotel stage is set in between the first and second World War. The film has an all star cast headed by Ralph Fiennes, F. Murray Abraham, Adrien Brody, Willem Defoe, Harvey Keitel, Jude Law, Ed Norton, Tilda Swinton, Tom Wilkinson, and even Bill Murray.
A terrificly fun film but not for the little ones because of adult situations.

Wes Anderson has done it again. Yet another brilliant film from possibly Thee best indie director out there. Quirky to say the least. Grand Budapest Hotel's sense of humor, coupled with it's precise staging, shot composition and incredible acting make this a pleasure to watch. A brilliant score compliments the film, but for once does not include in 1960s British Invasion tunes. While I do love the old Kinks stuff, this film does fine without it.
Can't wait to watch it again...and again.

I own the Criterion Collection editions of other Wes Anderson films, and I wish one were released for The Grand Budapest Hotel too. Until that happens, this blu-ray will do. I was disappointed that the menu screen is a static, not very artsy image (I'm used to the Criterion style). The film itself looks great though, and this version comes with a digital copy which is a plus over Criterion.
For what I consider Wes Anderson's best film, I only wish the packaging and home viewing presentation were equally striking.

This Blu-ray transfer is phenomenal! The digital copy is convenient for when you don't wish to take the disc from place to place. If you love Wes Anderson then you will love this film. I personally say all of his films are spectacular but this one is in my top 3 of the 8 films he's created so far. Even if you don't know Wes Anderson I still recommend checking out this subtle, well told story. Sorry no spoilers! Great movie!

Delightfully reproduced in high definition, this tale of the misadventures of one Monsieur Gustav H., concierge, and his faithful lobby boy, Zero, is sure to entertain. Whether you prefer to watch it from the supplied Blu-ray disc, or stream it using the included Ultraviolet digital copy, the zaniness never lets up until you reach the end, at which point it would behoove you to start the film anew. The costumes and sets are finely crafted, the photography precisely composed, and the soundtrack thrillingly encompassing. Highly recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed watching this delightful film on Blu-ray after getting it at Best Buy for only $5.99! This outstanding Wes Anderson original screenplay has an all-star cast playing humorous characters with great dialogues in wonderful historic settings with excellent cinematography. It won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) and received nine nominations for the upcoming Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

I love this movie so much. It's quirky, it's oddball, it's of the wall - it is totally it's own movie, not trying to be like anything else. A nice breath of fresh air from all the Hollywood samey-samey garbage that is being put out there. This is definitely one of Wes Anderson's best, if not the best. All of the performances are excellent. It is one of my favorite films from 2014 and deserved all the Oscar noms and wins it received.

I saw this film in the theatre during initial release. It's quirky, fun, and the story moves along quickly. I knew I needed to see it again at home. After watching the Blu-ray last night, it was a great transfer and all the little things I enjoyed the first time held up at home. There are some fun extras on the disc including Bill Murray showing you around town. This is a no-brainer purchase if you like any of Wes Anderson's films.

When I was asked to go see "The Grand Budapest Hotel" in the theater, I must say I was skeptical. I'm not usually into "artsy" movies that deviate too far from the blockbusters that we are all used to. After leaving the theater though, I will say that I was very glad that I went and enjoyed one of the most visually stunning films I have ever seen. This film is gorgeous and the plot keeps your attention the whole way through. Great film!!

There's nothing bad you can say about this movie. But having an eclectic taste in your entertainment would greatly help. I've had some say it was terrible, they didn't understand it. True it's not really made for the general audience. But those who have an open mind will thoroughly enjoy it. You can just see the fun and tongue in cheek performance of the actors and tech support on the film. Glad to have it in my collection.

I'm never sure with the art house independent type films if I'm going to like them. Sometimes I don't want to have to think so much when I'm watching a movie. Sometimes I just want to be entertained and watch a few things explode. This movie was funny and entertaining. It was not what I thought it was going to be from the cover. I had not seen any previews of the film first so I had no preconceptions. It was worth the watch!

I know a lot of people are not big fans of Wes Anderson, but you don't need to be a fan of the director for this movie. The cast alone is an excellent group overall to see together on the screen!!! The story and the script is funny as a whole and the film work is intriguing and creative in my opinion! Love this movie - definitely shows why this movie won best picture for golden globes and won so many oscars this year!!

The encode on this disc is excellent at faithfully reproducing the multiple ratios of this meticulously shot film. Sound quality is also very good. This story-within-a-story-within-a-story is not for everyone but I find it compelling, fun, and a little melancholy. I’m looking forward to the eventual Criterion rerelease as a fully loaded special edition but, at the right price.(that’s subjective, too) this is a great disc in the meantime.

How does one even come up with a story like this? How do they convince a studio to produce and sell it? I don't love all Wes Anderson films, but this one just strikes the perfect note. I think it's because there's a focused narrative that drives the viewer through the film at a pretty good clip. Some of his other films were just too pandering and in love with themselves.

This is a great film that I unfortunately didn't get to see in theaters, but checked it out because the Blu Ray was on sale and I was familiarizing myself with the work of Wes Anderson. This is one of the most masterful examples of a director expressing their unique voice and cinematic style. Do not sleep on this film.
