Good, Not Wholly Original Horror Film

A conservationist is sent to survey a forest in Ireland believed to be inhabited by demonic creatures who slaughter those unfortunate enough to lose their way. Of course, Adam Hitchens (Joseph Mawle) finds himself and his wife and child in that very situation and must fight against the creatures in order to save his family.
In terms of plot, there’s not a lot of new ground here. It’s a bit of a typical monster movie, but the acting is top-notch and the creature design is eerie and memorable. The underlying message is that deforestation is bad and we should all do our part to save the environment, lest we come face-to-face with Mother Nature herself in her most cruelest form.
On the special features front, there’s not a ton here, which is too bad since Scream Factory is involved and usually do a great job. What’s here is good, you just wish there’d been more. First up is “Surviving The Fairytale: Making The Hallow” which is, of course, a typical making-of featurette. Director’s Storyboards is, well, his storyboards for the film. “The Book of Invasions” features original illustrations from the film; Director’s Sketchbook displays the director’s original concept art; and, finally, Creature Concepts is pretty self-explanatory.
It is a fun, even creepy little horror film that will keep you watching, just as long as you don’t expect anything too new. Give a chance, though. The sad state that horror is in right now, the decent flicks need some love.

I'm always on the lookout for those great independent horror gems, and I'd have to say that this was one of them. Without giving away too much, the film focuses around a family who inadvertently draw the wrath of forest spirits based on Irish mythology/folklore. It wasn't something I've seen explored in any horror film prior to this one and was happy to see some fresh material explored. Overall, if you like supernatural horror steeped in a bit of ancient folklore, this should be right up your alley.

after watching a lot of newer horror films and being thoroughly disappointed, it was nice to finally enjoy one. The Hallow is a nice little jem of a film that brings back the feel of the older classics in the horror genre but with the effects of today. Creepy atmosphere and great story. It reminded me of Straw Dogs but with a supernatural twist.

I liked this overall. I thought the story line was fairly original with some twists. The creatures were interesting and you got to actually see them instead of being kept in the dark throughout the entire movie. Good creepy creature feature worth a watch.

I had been waiting for this movie a long time to come out. It reminded me of a cross between the new leprechaun remake and digging up the marrow ( which I recommend seeing that one). But this was decent not what I expected but worth a watch.

This movie flew under my radar, but I sure am glad I stumbled upon it. Great use of practical and computer effects. It has a simple story and a been there done that formula, but it just plain good. Jump scares and creatures galore!

If you like horror movies this one is a really solid movie. Picked it up randomly and noticed it was an ifc movie which I'm always willing to watch and turned out pretty good:

This is one of the better movies that has been out. While it has a really strong start, it does tend to change a bit once the reveal of the monster is made. While it's not a total disaster, it does kind of droop a bit and loose a little bite as the movie heads towards it's conclusion. Not sure if it's worth owning or repeat watches. It's not a bad movie at all and the special efx are excellent.

Haven't gotten a chance to check this out yet but I've heard it's really good. Hit and miss with the Scream Factory/IFC releases but trying to get them all.

Loved this movie. It had that bit of life that got you to know the characters and a tid bit of scare... Just enough to call it a good movie.
