Films are still a little not as enjoyable as the Lord of the Rings, lots of filler to stretch the originally planned 2 films into 3. But as a presentation of these films it's the best they've looked, frame rate is set to that of a traditional film rather than the increased rate shown in theaters. The remastering that Peter Jackson oversaw improved the picture quality and seemed to give the visual effects more work to fit them into the live action shots a bit better.

This meet-ed all expectations especially if you are a Hobbit fan. The 4k graphics are awesome and watching these movies on my Sony XBR is great. The loading time and the flow of the video graphics are seamless. The audio that was done for the 4k format is exceptional. I am a huge fan of the extended version and seeing the added plot endings is a great feature for the movies. I am sure this will please anyone that likes these types of movies in the 4k format. Awesome quality!!!

Jackson's Return to Middle Earth is a Mixed Bag

If only they stuck with two films. Peter Jackson's second Middle Earth trilogy is one that is the working definition of a mixed bag. Originally envisioned as a two-part film series that was to be originally directed by Guillermo Del Toro, the "Hobbit" series wound up being a trilogy that simply didn't have enough material to cover three films (blame studio greed for the decision, not Jackson). But even if they stuck with the two film plan, the "Hobbit" films would still have to deal with Jackson's perchant for bloat. "An Unexpected Journey" and "The Desolation of Smaug" are both good films (the third act of 'Smaug' is the best of this trilogy). But they are also ones that could have used another pass in the editing bay (a Goblin musical number and a shoehorned love triangle should have been first on the list for deletion). The third film in the series, "The Battle of the Five Armies," might be Jackson's worst movie to date had he not made "The Lovely Bones." It doesn't matter whether you watch the theatrical or extended cut, "Five Armies" is like watching cut scenes from a videogame with the volume cranked up too high. Whereas "Return of the King" was a phenomenal conclusion to the "Lord of the Rings" saga, "Five Armies" was the complete opposite. Rather sad, actually. Warner's UHD box set offers solid transfers of the three features, and contains the theatrical and extended cuts of each film. As with the "Lord of the Rings" UHD set, there are no extras to be had. If you want those with your 4K discs, you'll have to wait until the upcoming deluxe set. If you don't care about such things and you are a fan of the trilogy, this set comes recommended if you can find it on sale.

The Hobbit Trilogy is even more stunning in 4K. Definitely worth the purchase. Though there will be a collector's edition coming out in 2021, so if you want to wait, do it. Some of us don't mind multiple copies. Having both the theatrical and extended versions may seem pointless to some. I don't mind that. It's nice for comparison.

Just get it, you won’t be upset. It is a bit expensive still, you are getting 6 digital copies, 6 4K discs and everything is in Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, including the Extended Editions! It’s worth it just to see Smaug in 4K Dolby Vision with Hurricane Wings in Atmos. Best Buy employee approved!

As with The Lord Of The Rings trilogy set, this collection is a great addition to any library. The movies themselves pull you in to a fantasy while the sound and the color are just amazing. I would definitely recommend this to everyone

4k all the way!!! The movie was breathtaking. Colors sound. Best buy was easy choice to buy it from unlike amazon who takes out money puts back and takes out again. I wish best buy would go back to putting movies in their stores. They should be the first store with all 4k.

Director Jackson and Warner Brothers have beautifully upgraded this film to 4K format with no noise (black spots). This is one of the best 4K movies of this year. It's worthy buying it.

The Hobbit seems to be polarizing for Lord of the Rings fans. They either like it and don't because of the more cartoonish characters and plot lines. Personally, I enjoyed the prequel and I really appreciate the visual fidelity upgrade made to this 4K release. On a really good TV (55 inches+) the colors and graphical fidelity are truly jaw dropping at times. Fans of this trilogy should own this version of the film even if you need to buy a 4K bluray disc player to watch it.
