One of the best JRPG's comes to PS4

Trails of Cold Steel is part of a much larger JRPG series. The Legend of Heroes spans a ton of entries, but the ones that begin with "Trails of" are all set in the same world (such as Trails in the Sky) though you don't need to have played any of the previous ones to appreciate this one. This particular entry was previously released on PC, PS3, and Vita and if you've already started a game on the latter two and created a cloud save in-game, you can continue where you left off on the PS4 version. Plus, it adds additional voiced dialogue, a fast forward mode, and all of the DLC. It comes packaged with a steelbook case, replica coin, soundtrack, and a paper manual (remember those?) Keep in mind that because this is an enhanced port of a much older game, it's not as visually impressive as other games on the console. Also, prepare yourself for a ton of exposition and world building. If you're okay with all that, you're in for a fantastic experience as the characters, combat, and overall narrative are top notch. It even has a similar social aspect to the Persona games. And when you're done with that, be sure to pick up Trails of Cold Steel II and III when they release later this year!

The game is amazing. This is a updated version of the PS3 version. The game is the 2nd in a series that spans other installments (Trails series).

This is a remastered PS3 game, but it's still an incredible value. You can get many, many hours out of this game, and the soundtrack is amazing. This package comes with a really nice box. Inside you'll find the game and a manual in a beautiful steelbook, plus a collector's coin and a CD soundtrack of selected tracks. The second game will be released soon with the same bonus stuff, and then the US is finally getting a localized version of part III (and hopefully part IV in the future). So get this game now to get ready for it!

If you haven't tried a Trails game this is a good place to start! I played this game first on PC and it was easy to follow even without playing the earlier Trails in the Sky games. Combat is excellent; turn-based but without being dull. The story has drama, humor, and action aplenty. This series is worth every hour spent exploring Erebonia (and I've logged well over 100) The characters are intriguing and the English dub is done well. As for the physical goodies, the soundtrack is great as with all falcom games. There is an adorable comic in the manual that is worth a read and of course the 50 Mira coin is a good quality for collectors to enjoy. The steel case is beautiful and I appreciate that they didn't cover up the art with logos or words. So what in Aidios' name are you waiting for?

I've played The Legend of Heroes series, including trails of cold steel 1, 2 and imported 3 (Japanese only). We don't talk about 3. Trails of cold steel 1 is delivered better in it's voicing, but sometimes it can feel off. In the beginning there are voiced lines that were edited in not too good. Game play, world building, and story it is great. Replaying this game on Nightmare first play-through is a treat and amazing especially with Turbo mode to help me get through the battles faster.

    A new Arc begins...

Cold Steel is actually part of a new arc of an overarching story spanning 9 games (with more to come). This is actually a great way for new comers to jump into the story - plus with upgraded graphics, all DLC included (with was costly in previous releases) , and turbo mode which is a godsend - this is pretty much the best package for this game (outside the PC release). This version comes with a 21 track OST with case, a BEAUTIFUL steel case for the game, a full color manual (whaaaa) with comic strips at the end of the manual, and finally a 50 Mira coin with case that is pretty hefty in weight. Just don't let crow show you a trick with it unless you want to lose your money heh... Overall a Perfect package for the game of thrones of video games.

Played this game on Vita and absolutely loved it, so when I found out it was coming on PS4 I of course preordered it immediately. The Trails series has incredible world-building and characters and some of the most fun turn-based combat I’ve experienced in a while. This is a great place to start but I’d suggest playing through the Sky trilogy and Zero/Ao beforehand if you’re able. Only complaint is that this game does start off slow but if you give it time like I did you’ll fall in love with it!

If you haven't tried the Trails franchise this first chapter of the Erebonian arc (there are interconnecting story arcs across the Zumeria collective storyline, for example the Liberl arc featured in the Trails in the Sky series) makes a superb entry point. The world-building and character depth are amazing, even for many of the numerous NPCs. The Turbo Mode helps greatly to speed up moving around and quickly finishing the turn-based battles, which is a boon for folks who've played earlier versions. Overall, a must-have if you like JRPGs in the least.

This game (really the Cold Steel subseries of Legend of Heroes) has become my favorite JRPG since the 'golden era'. The story plays at like a well written anime. Sure it has several tropes, but none have been excessive, and are in good taste. The combat remains engaging, and the world feels larger than it is, and emanates a sense of wonder at times. I own this game on PS3 and Vita as well, and your save does transfer between the platforms. It's another reason to love Nihon Falcom.

I really enjoyed this game. It has interesting, likable characters and an interesting plot/world. It does a good job of mixing fantasy and technology. The game could be dry and slow at times because some of the game focuses on worldbuilding for future games. The turned based gameplay is also pretty good, and there are quite a bit of characters choose from in your party. It is a pretty long game (around 50 hours maybe) which is standard for JRPGs.

This is an enhanced port of the game that originally released for the PS3 and Vita. It includes all the DLC that was released for those versions along with a few enhancements like the ability to boost the speed of the game. Since this is the first game in the Cold Steel series, it does have a bit of a slow start but the combat, music, character writing and story are worth pushing past the first few hours to discover one of the deepest and well developed worlds in RPGs.

Bought this game with not many expectations as graphics look a bit dated and combat seemed so so. This game turned out to be pretty great with a pretty good story and character development. It almost felt like I was playing through an anime at times. Combat is turn based but offers a bit of a different approach than your standard rpg such as Dragon Quest or a Final Fantasy game. It kind of reminds me of Persona mixed with Dragon Quest in a way.

Trails of Cold Steel is a game that takes fantastic world-building and a story-driven narrative and blends the two to create a game that will leave a lasting impression for any fan of JRPGs. If you're a fan of role-playing games, I highly recommend that you check the game out. There are three games confirmed for the series thus far for PS4 which shows that there's a lot of lore and character development to be found for anyone looking.

Great Jrpg. Keep in mind this is the first of a four part (trails of cold steel) story. Within that four part story this and TOCS 2 form a first half/second half story where the second game picks up right where the first left off, while games 3 &4 take place with the same protagonist but at a later time and with many different supporting characters.

I recommend this game to anyone that enjoys old school style, turn-based RPGs. The story and gameplay are excellent. The story is more of a slow burn. It takes time to really develop. In that time though you can better get to know the characters and their backstories.

First off this is not going to be some visual show piece for the PS4, as a PS3 port the age of the textures show but its rock solid and definitely worthwhile port. That aside the Trials of Cold Steel arc to the LOH series is one of the best and has tons of content and a fun battle system to go along with the likable cast and story

I owned this for the PS Vita, and while it now loses its portability it more than makes up for it with the graphics and improved features. The ability to port a save file is a great bonus for veterans that want to revisit the story and gameplay for the 3rd and 4th installment of the series.

This is officially the 4th! time I have bought Trails of Cold Steel. I bought it originally on Playstation 3, I got it on Vita and I got it on PC and now I got it on Playstation 4. I am going through my 3rd playthrough. The game is a slow burn. It takes awhile for the story to kick up a notch, but by that time you know the main characters extremely well and you care for most of them. A nice twist that you may not see coming in the latter half if you never played before. The english dub is actually pretty good, and you get more of it than the japanese one. This series, although not as flashy graphically whatsoever curb stomps the last several Final Fantasy games. It is true, turn based battle system is welcome. If you love JRPG's, you are giving yourself a disservice for not trying this series. I look forward to the Cold Steel 2 and 3 coming later this year!
