If you go into this game looking at the character art style and thinking, "Hey! This looks like Bravely Default! I'll bet it's good!" then I'd suggest you immediately take heed of my review.
The game is not anything like a standard JRPG. It doesn't have a grandiose story with an easy to learn battle system, with a party of a ragtag group of characters brought together by torment and trial caused by some overarching evil. In fact, The Legend of Legacy is quite the opposite, being an exception to the JRPG mold. The game is actually a spiritual sequel to a series known as SaGa (yes the 'G' is supposed to be capitalized), which was known in Japan for subverting the JRPG genre itself.
The Legend of Legacy is sparse on story, causing you to interpret a good chunk of it, with characters giving you enough development through small dialogue snippets to give you their motives. Not to say there isn't the occasion revelation cutscene, but they are extremely few and far between.
The gameplay difficulty is brutal, forcing you to learn the mechanics on your own (or by studying the digital manual, accessible from the 3DS home screen), while favoring loose exploration, instead of a linear point A to point B progression. There are no EXP points as well for leveling, with stats and skills given random based on difficulty of the enemy vs RNG progression (random number generation).
If you haven't been scared away yet, then you're probably a seasoned RPG player looking for a change. My recommendation is to try the demo first on the eShop, which gives a good representation of what the full game is like. If you do decide to get it though, be prepared for some top notch 3DS presentation, and one of the most beautiful soundtracks of the year.
Average Playthrough Length: 20 - 30 hours.

This review is for the Launch Edition of Legend of Legacy. I couldn't be more pleased with this item. In addition to the game itself the launch edition rewards you by including a nice box, CD, art book, and collectors box, all for the same price as the regular game. If you were planning on picking up the game anyway there is abosultely no reason not to get this version of the game.

I got the launch edition and was surprised when it arrived at my front door. It was taller than I was expecting, the hard cover art book was amazing, and the soundtrack was lovely. Now on to the game, you can chose what character to start your adventure, discover and create a map which you can sell as information, and the battle system is easy at first but later on takes some skill. I enjoyed the game and if you are looking for a fun JRPG then why not this one.

I recognize this title might not be everyone's cup of tea - too many people will look at the art and say 'Bravely Default!', but no, this game is entirely different. Closer to Atlus's Etryan Odyssey games, I recommend watching a gameplay trailer before determining if you wish to buy, as you will be buying it for the gameplay and systems, not for the storyline which is nearly nonexistent.

The Legend of Legacy is a solid RPG overall. The graphics are decent, the voice acting (English only as far as I know), although very sparse, is of high quality, and the music is pretty memorable. The turn-based battle system requires a bit of strategic thinking and is very satisfying. You can hold a button to speed up the battles if you so choose. The characters (besides the one you select in the beginning as your main character) are not very deep but are enjoyable nonetheless. The only negative aspect of the game is that it may be difficult for some, so save often! Grinding is strongly recommended.

The Demo was pretty fun and had potential so I figure to go ahead and get it. The combat is interesting with varied party formations and the ability to choose which weapons everyone uses and their combat style.
Unfortunately certain characters get level ups on certain weapons way more often than others. Even then their prefered weapons level up go down to a grinding halt relatively fast. Trying to gain higher HP values is mostly a process of luck making it a requirement to grind an extremely large amount to keep your HP high enough to survive boss encounters.
Once you get far enough to start getting the other elemental shards it opens up again a bit, but overall it has very little story and the fun combat system gets old when you have to mindlessly grind so heavily with nothing to look forward to.

Very nicely packaged, and the art book is pretty cool. The game itself is pretty cool too. I love the art style. The battle system is a little different than a typical rpg, but it's not bad. The scenery popping in and out is a little distracting, but I think I'll get used to it.

Legend of Legacy is a tough, Final Fantasy 2 inspired, turn-based RPG with chili sprites, little story, and no direction. Not for the faint of heart but for those looking for something fresh from the genre.

For the sum of all of its parts, this is a decent. The graphics and mechanics are solid but the game suffers from a very bland storyline, poor world map utilization and odd fighting mechanics. If you are desperate for a traditional Japanese RPG with quirky character design, I see no reason for you not to pick this up... but realistically, this is most likely a game you can skip.

I cannot get enough of this game. Definitely fills the void left while eagerly awaiting Bravely Second. An instant classic, the story while not exactly ground-breaking, is a bit refreshing in its execution. The ability to play numerous characters allows for great re-playability; offering multitudes of choices. While not a true Tactics game, it is more along the lines of Chrono Cross and Grandia. Character customization extends about as far as your typical JRPG; and the classes are reminiscent of this fact. The graphics are definitely very fitting towards the overall feel of the game.

If you've played a SaGa game (or one of its variants, like The Last Remnant), you've probably got a good handle on what this game is like. It's very battle- and exploration-focused, with some nice graphics that seem similar to those of Bravely Default, but again, it plays much differently. If you play RPGs for the combat and the exploration and not story (on which this game is remarkably light), give this one a go.

This is a pretty fun RPG game for the 3DS. The battle system can get a little repetitive and the story is fairly subpar, but it's a fun game to level up in, choose a team, and explore. The collector's edition is pretty nice. Some good extras are included.

Game has the feel of bravely default x monster hunter. You fill out maps automatically and sell them, combat is kind of like ff13 where skills are less important than stance/role. Anyone can be anything but some skills are learned faster than others. There's a home base and you go out on various maps and sell them upon completion. It gets repetitive but every so often the game surprises you.

the turn based jrpg formula is a bit of an enigma in games these days but finds itself quite at home in this fantasy rpg. the story is well written and the gameplay is satisfying, but it is missing that extra flare that would make this game stand out on it's own. But it is well worth the money and successfully combines familiar mechanics into a cohesive package

The good folks at Atlus have delivered yet another great RPG for 3DS. There is a lot to love about The Legend of Legacy. The battle mechanics are fun, the soundtrack is well-done, and it has a lovely art style. I found this game to have only one flaw, and unfortunately it is a big one: the story and characters. The story is pretty minimalist, with little emphasis placed on it. The characters have little depth to them as well. This disappointed me quite a bit, and if everything else about the game wasn't so good I probably would have given it a two star rating. The 3DS library is rich with excellent RPG titles, and The Legend of Legacy doesn't quite measure up to them. I still enjoyed it a lot though. I got it for $24, which I feel is a fair price for what you are getting.

Great game with amazing graphics & hours of gameplay. Also if you pre-ordered the game you received the collectors edition with the artwork book.
