Not as thematic as I had hoped it would and didn't get the message across as I hoped it would. The battle scenes were not as good as well but the lack of theme is what made this movie rate on the down side. It does have some good scenes to amplify the scenes not as thematic so it is average on my assessment.

This is a great movie if you’re looking for a drama.

The Northman is barbarically beautiful and a testament to Robert Eggers’ growth as a filmmaker. It’s hands down his most accessible film, while still remaining very Robert Eggers, and easily one of the best films of the year. Where The VVitch showed Eggers command of the camera and The Lighthouse was a masterclass in lighting, The Northman is the culmination of both, with breathtaking scenery and a standout ensemble. There are bits of brutality that look borrowed from Klimov’s Come and See, and effective uses of beautiful long takes that drive the tension and action like Mendes’ 1917. The Northman is more than Viking-Hamlet. Similar to Eggers’ two prior films, it has a knowledge and respect for Norse mythology and the folklore. That care and understanding for the subject translates to the screen, bringing this period piece to life with a sense of realism all epics should strive for.

I love Viking themed movies and tv series, and this movie is not an exception. It is a bit different from what you'd expect after watching Vikings or The Last Kingdom, as this movie is not action driven, and does not include epic battlefield fights. However, it does have an interesting plot and the story that sucks you in and does not let go until the end. It does rely on some historical events, but mostly on the Norse mythology itself. It's definitely worth a watch. The 4k itself is stunning, with great visuals and deep black colors. The atmos sound is also very immersive. It's a great movie to have in your collection.

This movie has been called one of the best films of 2022..as of this review. Reviews are subjective, but I thought this was a really good movie..but not for everyone's taste. Technically..the disc is excellent. The 4k image is sharp with nice black levels..and the Dolby Atmos track is livey and engaging with some good low-end OOMPH. I bought this movie as a blind buy, based on reviews alone. I would suggest to other viewers that they might give it a rent first. If they like the film..then they'll be satisfied with the disc purchase.

The Northman was so well made.The director has an eye for dark scenes and dark story telling.But in the best way.I really enjoyed this film.I had heard great reviews on the movie after it was released.I wasn’t going to purchase a physical copy until I had saw the film on tv first.But when I saw it for a decent price I just decided to buy a 4K copy.So glad I did.The film and storytelling are compelling.The costumes and scenery are awesome!I would highly suggest getting a copy on 4K and view on a really good TV.

Pretty good but quality control of UHD discs must not be good... picture broke up early in the movie and was not happy so minus another star for that.

This is one very awesome Viking movie. I've been very fascinated with Viking shows since I watched Vikings ,that show was amazing. The Viking Swords in the movie were Fantastic. I really liked the story and the action was incredible, I Love the Northman so much that I ordered a sword with Northman written down the middle of the blade in Old Viking writing, thought it fitting especially since I'm a Northman, Born and raised in Alaska.

Had high hopes for the movie based on previews, it was just okay. Great looking picture and the sound was very good as well.

Not only my favorite movie of 2022, but by far the best film to come out in 2022 in my eyes. A great cast, a well written plot, gorgeous visuals, an outstanding soundtrack, and zero political agendas. If only most movies would be as good and/or as well written as this. Highly recommended to those who love Norse mythology, Barbarian style films, and/or very good movies made by people who actually cares about story telling & character development.

I’m surprised I didn’t hear more about this film when it was first released. There’s a lot to enjoy here and it is quite a spectacle on a big screen in 4K UHD. Alexander Skarsgard delivers a stellar performance as the lead. There were a few characters I felt were miscast, but he was perfect for the role. Be aware that a lot of this film takes place in the dark, and even in 4K UHD Dolby Vision, it is sometimes hard to tell what is going on.

This movie was a bit off and thought it would be much better especially with the actors that star in this.

Saw this movie in theaters and was totally blown away. Bought it on 4k and its still amazing. Like the other movjes from this director, its a slow burn but the payoffs are worth it. Its also extremely refreshing when you have a director who tries to use as many practical and real effects and locations as possible and not flood the entire movie with cgi

I’ve heard great things about this movie and I can’t wait to see it!!! I’ve heard it looks amazing in 4K compared to streaming service viewing. Haven’t had a chance to watch it yet but I’m excited. Great price as it was a Black Friday purchase and seems to be pretty hard to find these days. So I licked up. Bought two. One to keep, another to resell on eBay!

This movie was the essence of ice and iron. Hands down this is the best Nordic movie made yet. I don't care what anyone says. Eggers really delivered on this film and he did his homework, not to mention how perfect the cast, makeup/costumes/weaponry, and musical score was as well. I'm blown away. This is what true art is all about.

Very good movie not a historical based movie but movie based in viking legendand mythology. But amovie that strives to be historically accurate to the Scandinavian life at the time and as such not politically correct but historically correct if you like the vikings tv series you will not like this . But if you want something closer to the real time period you will enjoy it

I picked this up on sale for $9.99 I had seen this movie on low resolution streaming which did not do it justice. This for 4K disc was like I was watching a different film. The image is sharp and the High Dynamic Range was beautiful for the low light and night scenes. The Dolby Atmos sound track was very powerful and immersive.

Great acting. Based in the old Viking stories. Lots of detail given to real life back then. I've spent a great deal of time through the years to understand the real Vikings, which used to be much harder to find. This movie goes a long way in providing the highest quality and effort I've ever come across in every aspect. A great find.

When i originally watched this movie in theatres I enjoyed it but upon rewatching it at home in 4k I enjoyed it even more . The visuals are gorgeous, the story is entertaining and I wish this movie had a better box office than what it earned. I love the viking culture and wish we got more movies focusing on it

I guess I’m old fashion, tired of woke and superhero movies, looking for something different, this one check almost all the boxes except story, is not quite Braveheart or Gladiator but still a very good movie, that’s why I only gave it four stars.
