You can't judge a book by its cover – or people by first impressions. Both are truisms that I've seen play out often – in my life and in the lives of others. Excellent art work doesn't necessarily mean that the book underneath that cover is any good (or the movie behind the poster, for that matter). More importantly, when looking for a life partner, regardless of how charming the man, or alluring the woman, what's underneath is what matters in the long run – and the best way to make life-defining judgments about a potential mate will always be T-I-M-E. The problem comes in when the cover of that book is so utterly impressive that you commit to reading it, but end up regretting it – or when you go ahead and put in the time, then start to sense that you won't like that last chapter. These are the kinds of situations that become real problems for the main character in "The Perfect Guy" (PG-13, 1:40). Leah Vaughn (Sanaa Lathan) has it all… well, most of it anyway. She has good looks, a devoted boyfriend and a great job as a lobbyist in L.A. What she doesn't have is a life-long commitment from her man. At the age of 36, and after two years of dating Dave (Morris Chestnut), Leah decides that she's tired of waiting for him to decide when he's ready to marry her and start a family. She tells Dave to leave, and again finds herself alone, but not for long. She meets another very eligible bachelor, but this one seems to know exactly what he wants. Carter Duncan comes off as charming, kind and generous as he is good-looking and sexy. He quickly earns Leah's affections, impresses her friends (Rutina Wesley and Kathryn Morris) and wins over her father (Charles S. Dutton). Carter really does seem to be the perfect guy. Then Leah cracks open that book. Carter soon shows that, underneath his cover, he has some serious imperfections. Leah thinks it's best to close the book on this initially very promising relationship. Carter doesn't quite accept her decision. Harassment, stalking and some very creepy behavior follows. Then, Dave re-enters the picture. He asks for, and gets, another chance at being Leah's forever man. Carter likes this development even less than the restraining order that Leah sent his way. Now we have a full-blown love triangle – and one of these men turns out to be full-blown crazy. A sympathetic police detective (Holt McCallany) does everything he can to protect Leah, and her neighbor (Tess Harper) looks out for her, but Leah ends up having to figure a way out of her situation mostly by herself. "The Perfect Guy" is formulaic, fairly predictable – and fun. We've seen this basic story in "Fatal Attraction" (1987), "Sleeping with the Enemy" (1991), "Double Jeopardy" (1999), "Enough" (2002), etc., all the way up to 2015's "The Boy Next Door" and beyond, but this one earns its place among those earlier films. The dialog is crisp and real and, for a nice change, the script doesn't portray the cops as indifferent and powerless (although some moviegoers may feel that the extent to which one detective helps Leah sends a dangerous message). This film nicely updates the genre by showing the very real perils of being a stalk-ee in the early 21st century. Rarely have an obsessed lover's actions been more unsettling, more intrusive and more frightening than in this film. For her part, Leah's dignity, spirit and resourcefulness are also very impressive. A very solid supporting cast back up the excellent performances of the three main characters, and all three are also pretty easy on the eye. (Plus, it's nice to see more ethnic diversity in the thriller genre.) "The Perfect Guy" may not be a perfectly original movie, but its appealing cast, smart script and well-constructed story make it worth a look. "B+"

So we get Sanaa Lathan, Michael Ealy and Morris Chestnut. So what do we get with this terrific cast? A pretty suspenseful movie, that is what. The vey handsome Michael Ealy is eerie as Carter, he is so good looking that you would never guess what ugliness lies beneath. Morris is the ex-BF and is still trying to get back together. Michael wants to possess her. Sanaa is wonderful as the damsel in distress who isn't going to take it anymore. Nothing really new in this story or plot but the attractive and talented cast make it better than most. I don't doubt that you will figure out the series of events from the first half hour....but still very good show

I absolutely love this movie!! Yes, there are spoilers in the previews and the plot line isn't entirely new. However, the cast and crew did a great job with putting a fresh spin on this topic and developing a roller coaster of a film. Some of the scenes were very intense, and I jumped out of my seat at least once. And there are definitely things I did NOT see coming! I love that it wasn't a gory film, and that the main character (played by Sanaa Lathan) isn't a helpless mess. Micheal Ealy is very easy on the eyes, too. Lol. This is a movie I could watch again and again :)

This was an ok movie with good actors but the scenarios in the movies were like really do females do this? It was so many mistakes that I wouldn't have made just because a cute guy shows you attention. The movie did have some good parts and good points but most could have been prevented if she would have been cautious. I would recommend this movie if you know females like her or you just want an entertaining movie.

How far will you go in order to stop an intelligent stalker? The passion of love is a strong force and can take you down paths you never seen before. The acting of the three main actors (Chessnut part is not as significant as portrayed) is on point. The love scenes are steamy like a hot shower. The directing is not Oscar worthy, but is a good thriller to have in the collection.

It's a great opportunity to know that you must understand what your getting yourself into when you decide to date and get to know someone. This movie clearly shows the fast track Lathan character took to find companionship before she really knew who this guy was she started dating.It's a very good movie that keeps you guessing the next move to be done by the guy that is clearly unstable and uncapable of taking rejection.

this movie is so real, this happens every day in this world, where people play with each others lives in mind games and control, this guy got what he deserved in the end, If this could happen in the real world with out retaliation of imprisonment, more of these guys would think twice before they stalked or abused a woman. excellent story line, and need more of this in the real world to protect the woman of this world.

Even though I did not care for all the you know what content, I liked the fact that it exposed a real illness that we see in our society all the time. I am a lover of true stories and things that really happens so it was well done with the actors in this movie. Must be a real mature adult to watch this one though, would not leave it out for the kids to get to.

Great movie, definitely intense and suspense filled. I was on the edge of my chair in the movies, waiting to breathe. What you anticipate will happen, happens - however that does not take away from the movie. I can't wait to buy this movie to watch it over and over. The cast is great in the movie - you'll smile, laugh and cry - then be scared out of your mind.

this is a great movie,I was waiting to come out in blue ray..to watch it,the history is very good,the actors and Sanaa Lathan have a very good performance in this feature,I recommend it if you like movies that are not made by computer oh comics heroes,this movie is a good election if you want to watch a history of the real life...!!

I am a fan of all three main characters and could not wait to buy this movie and I was not disappointed. Very good! It kept wondering what was going to happen next. My husband and I enjoyed it for our movie night, recommend it for single ladies to watch!

In the tradition of Fatal Attraction, the movie is a lot of fun. It's definitely an edge of your seat thriller. I just wish the blu ray had more special features, but I absolutely recommend, even if for a chill nite at home.

With summer TV lineup so poor, this movie was just what I needed. It was something I had been wanting to see but with so much happening in movie theaters these days I didn't get to see it. This was a great find and an even better price. Cheaper that going to the movie theater.

The Perfect Guy has the right mix of sexy, Morris Chestnut, Michael Ealy and thrilling action to keep you wanting more. I was speechless in some parts and screaming in others. Watch it with your "Perfect Guy" and you'll both have a great night.

I saw this movie in person and had to add it to my collection. Blair Underwood was so believable I wanted to reach in and beat him myself. Sandi is an excellent actress that's lifts to light that women just can't be deceived by good looks and the dream of he is petfect

I luv this movie because it kept you on the edge of your seat. If your looking for suspense then this would be the movie to buy. Not trying to tell the end of the story but I was not expecting it to end the way it did. Great movie

This movie caught my eye while browsing through different genres. Read the synopsis and decided to purchase it. Turned out to be a great thriller with an unexpected ending! Very intriguing and would definitely recommend!

The story showed that first impressions and looks can certainly be deceiving. So the story was good and the suspense and tension were strong points. I really like it because the Blue Ray came with a digital copy also which I shared with my son.

I thought the movie was pretty good. I've seen similar story lines before. The two main characters were played well. The ending was one of the best parts,as well as the detective's advice. Overall,good movie.
