    A worthy souls like game

Anyone interested in this game should be aware of the Dark Souls and Bloodborne series of games. The Surge is an unabashed take on that formula. Instead of a medieval fantasy setting with zombie like enemies, and huge creatures for bosses, it's a futuristic dystopia with an industrial aesthetic. The Surge uses almost all of the same mechanics that makes a souls game, but with their own take on it. And the difficulty is pretty much on par with those games as well, however I'd say The Surge is a bit easier overall. It's also more friendly to the player. There is less concern with losing your acquired souls, and mechanics and systems are explained much better.Overall I think The Surge comes up short in many ways compared to the souls games. Less enemy variety, less variety in locations, and less amounts of armor sets and weapons. It's a bit more scaled down in terms of overall size and content, but I don't think that necessarily holds the game back too much. It's still just as fun to fight enemies, explore the world, and continuously make your character better. The world is also very well designed so that each new area discovered can still eventually connect to everywhere else. The map is not huge, but it makes very good use of its space. The Surge does a good job of being its own thing and making the combat and character development feel fresh. Fans of Dark Souls and Bloodborne are sure to enjoy this game if they're looking to scratch that souls itch. It's also a good entry game for those new to these types of games.

Giving it 5 stars as it's an overall really fun game and quite challenging. But don't buy it thinking it is going to be exactly like a Souls game. There is no skill point allocation. So everything is based on what weapon you're using and what armor. Your level gives you more carry weight and health so you can put on more stuff. You spend the majority of the game hacking limbs off of enemies to collect weapons and gear.

If you're a Dark Souls/Blooborne fan you'll adapt to the gameplay with no issues. That being said if you're fan of those franchises you might find this game to come up short compared to those games I personally enjoyed it. I'd give it a 7.5/10 .

Many games try and fail to capture the 'feel' of Dark Souls - this game succeeds on atmosphere and general gameplay but it does not quite have the masterful charm of world building that the Souls series does. Don't get me wrong - the levels/enemies are adequate but they never truly innovate or make themselves distinct. Still an amazing game for what it is - just slightly shy of greatness.

    Sci-Fi Dark Souls-Like Game

It’s and interesting play. At first I played it consistently for a couple weeks but it did feel a bit repetitive after awhile. I do wish there was a larger variety of enemies. Other than that, it’s an interesting play. Not worth a full price but if you catch it on sale it should be worth your time if you’re a fan of the Dark Souls formula.

I had never heard of this game and then one day it was just there and out in the wild. So glad I picked this up. It looks great on the PS4 Pro and runs really well. If you've played Dark Souls or anything similar then you have an idea of how this game is set up. It adds some new things to the mix, like the ability to target parts of enemies and collect material to build armor sets, which is cool. Good pick up.

Kind of a Dark Souls knockoff but with Mecha not bad if that's your type of game can be pretty challenging

Lords of the Fallen was too slow for me although I mostly liked it. With this one, Deck13 finally nailed it. You got choices to be slow/damaging or quick/less damaging. Collecting parts of exo-suits and weapons are awesome and addicting. Don't listen to those saying the game is not good. They just don't get it.

Good graphics, good sound design, great gameplay, perfect difficulty level. The story is kinda cliche but hardly the game’s main focal point. 8/10

The Surge was very enjoyable. The combat is more similar to Bloodborne than Darksouls, mean it is a bit faster paced and is more focused on dodging attacks rather than blocking. This game does have a unique combat system where once you get an enemies health below a certain level, you can spend energy to perform an execution. You are also able to target specific limbs when attacking enemies which adds an extra layer of depth to the game play. Defiantly recommend this one.

I changed my mind for the orice of it. Still too high and its reviews weren't the best but still good enough to keep interest. I'll get this online from someone or a merchant in the future for sure

If you like the idea of dark souls, but built on the idea of mechanical monsters and your character strapped into a rig, this is for you. Pretty good game, just not as smooth as dark souls, but has it's own merits. Definitely worth it at a sale price.

The Surge builds on that game's fairly successful cloning of the Dark Souls formula. Like FromSoftware's popular series, The Surge is an extremely challenging third-person melee-focused action role-playing game.

Souls-like games are becoming a dime a dozen these days but The Surge stands out in its setting and how you can desmember certain parts of enemies for new gear. Quite fun and worth the low price I paid.
