My wife and I both suffer from headaches and eye strain from looking at computer screens most of the day. I saw the Therabody Smart Goggles and thought I’d give them a try since we have other Therabody products like the mask that we already love. As with those other products, the Smart Goggles have a good heft to them, so you know they are well made. The inner lining has a quite smooth feel against your face, and they are very comfortable once you have them on. Tighten the strap to your preference and get ready for some relaxation and relief. Neither of us had a problem with the fit and they truly do block 100% of the light for us. I have a friend that tried them who has a wider face and he said some light seeped in so your mileage may vary depending on your facial structure. I like that they fold in half and have a travel pouch so we can take them on trips with us and use them wherever we are. We have each used them multiple times and have yet to have to recharge the battery which is great if you are planning on a long trip and not having to pack yet another charger. You can use the buttons on the top to change the modes, heat levels, and vibrations, or you can use the well-designed app. I personally prefer the buttons so I don’t have to take the goggles off to make adjustments using my phone. The app does sync with the built-in heartrate sensor so you can see how your body reacts during the relax mode (which actually does work quit well). There is an auto-shutoff feature that turns the unit off after 15 minutes no matter what mode you are in. And there are lots of different customizations you can do (heat level, vibration intensity, etc.) depending on how you are feeling. All in all, we have been pleasantly surprised and pleased with the Smart Goggles and would definitely recommend them.

The pressure is strong enough to relieve stress on the temple, but not much help for the dry eye. And the motor sound like a moving laundry machine, can't really help sleep at all.

I currently own the Gen 1 SmartGoogles by Therabody and I have had very good results from it. When I learned that they redesigned a few the gripes I had, I was very eager to try out the Gen 2 SmartGoggles. First impressions are good. I really like the black color now, as it's less prone to show any dirt, although I always clean them after every use. The box includes the Goggles, a compact zippered storage case, a USB C charging cable and the instruction booklet (although they really need to make the font size much larger as it's tiny print currently). You will need to download and connect the Goggles to the Therabody app to get all the benefits offered. At first, I had a problem connecting these new Gen 2 Goggles to the app but they recently updated the app to include the new models, so it's now set up and working very well. These new Googles seems a touch lighter and thinner than the previous version which is always a benefit when having them attached to your head for extended periods of time..usually around 15-25 minutes per use (it varies based upon what program is selected and if you have a guided routine running). They still make a subtle buzzing noise when the pressure point motors are working. I believe there are 3 different pressure points they address...the temples, the center brow and high cheek/eye area. Those are the 3 that I can decipher at this point. I really enjoy the heat option and you select from a couple of heat levels to apply. The entire eye area seems to be warmed which is really a plus. My biggest gripe before was the fit issues I had with the Gen 1 Goggles. Now, with Gen 2, they have solved the eye pressure issue I had. The new model has additional space for the eyes so there is very little to no pressure while wearing. They also now block out the light completely but it requires some fiddling with the strap adjustment. It's so much better, and Im so thankful they made this design tweak. The button layout is identical to the Gen 1 version as far as I can tell. On the right side is the power button, 3 mode selection buttons (Smart Relax, Headache & Eye Strain and Sleep Prep). On the opposite side, there are 2 buttons (one for vibration modes and one for heat level). You can run any of these programs directly from the Goggles themselves, or once connected, you can select a routine via the app that adds music or voice guidance. I really enjoy the varied options for these and have used many of them. They are categorized based on scenarios, eg. Peaceful Soundscapes, Restful Sleep, Background Noise...etc. Once a routine has ended, the app allows you to save them and the results so that you can keep track over time. One thing to note is that the Smart Relax mode button on the unit will run a routine based on some bio measurements the built-in sensor takes (near lower cheek on the right side), so it's fully automatic. Therabody claims that they will run up to 180 minutes on a full battery. Im not sure what features are on/off for that performance but its still very impressive. Recharge time so far has been fast. For me, the both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Goggles have been very effective as relaxing me or helping relieve headaches...I get migraines so once I feel one coming on, I immediately throw these Goggles on to help stop it from escalating which has been pretty successful at doing. But I am very impressed and pleased with the updates to the Gen 2 model and I will definitely use them frequently with or without the app routines. Well done, Therabody!

Health-related technology is a growing field, with all manner of gadgets aiming to improve our daily lives. Therabody is both well-known and well-respected for their wellness products and I’m a happy user of one of their percussion massagers. Like many folks, I have trouble sleeping, and I experience a fair bit of eye strain from staring at a screen all day (and night). I jumped at the chance to try out one of Therabody’s newest products designed to address these very issues. The Therabody Smart Goggles (2nd Generation) are an interesting proposition, combining heat, massage and vibration in the form of blackout goggles that strap to your face. On their own the SmartGoggles offer three default programs, but connect the goggles to the Therabody app and you’re given a multitude of programs that also incorporate sound and are designed to help you relax, meditate, focus and more. The SmartGoggles arrived well-packed in a premium box befitting their price. There was almost no plastic packaging. I appreciate Therabody including a neoprene travel case and USB-C charging cable that, thankfully, is USB-C on both ends for versatility. I will note that I was surprised by the strong chemical smell of the travel case and goggles when I opened the package. I’m not sure if my unit was just super fresh from the factory floor or what, but I definitely had to let the case and SmartGoggles air out before using them. The smell dissipated after a few days, thankfully. The goggles themselves have three physical control buttons. On one side is the main power button, which cycles through the three default programs; on the other side are two more buttons, one controlling the heat and one controlling the vibration function. Depending on the program you select these will be activated or deactivated by default, and you can use the buttons to turn them on/off and select the intensity of the heat and/or vibrations. Strictly speaking you can use just these three physical controls to enjoy the core SmartGoggles programs: SmartRelax, Headaches & Eye Strain and Sleep Prep. These programs are designed to do what their names imply, with the SmartRelax mode additionally using the built-in biometric sensor to tailor the vibration pattern to match your heart rate, which Therabody says is designed to help you unwind and relax. Using the SmartGoggles is as simple as putting them on your face, adjusting the strap for a comfortable fit and pressing and holding the power button to start the program. It took me some fiddling the first time I wore them to get a comfortable fit, which for me involved adjusting the strap to its maximum length. While fairly comfortable, I do wish Therabody had included a longer strap and/or longer connectors between the strap and the goggles themselves. With the strap adjusted to fit my head the adjustment buckle is right next to my left ear and it does rub the tip of my ear a bit. Although Therabody says the strap should rest just above your ears, my ears are tall enough that the strap has to go over them, or else the goggles sit at a weird angle on my face. With the strap covering the tops of my ears the goggles are nice and flat against my head, but the strap does tend to wander down the back of my head if I move around too much. As long as I’m laying down flat or at a shallow angle the goggles mostly stay put, and since you’re supposed to be relaxing in them, these positions make sense — I just find myself fidgeting with the goggles while I’m using them a bit more than I anticipated. Everyone’s head is different, though, so your mileage may vary. I have two other quibbles about the physical design of the SmartGoggles. First, it’s a bit hard to tell which of the three programs you’ve selected once you’re already wearing the goggles. The power button cycles through the programs and a light on the top of the device lets you know which one you’ve selected… but you can’t see the light when you’re wearing the goggles. Whichever of the three programs you last used remains selected the next time you turn the goggles on, which helps, but pressing the button to cycle through the three programs produces only a “beep” as the program changes. I think it would have made sense for Therabody to assign 1, 2 or 3 beeps to the programs, so at least you could tell where you are in the rotation, but as it stands the only way to be sure of what program you’ve selected is to take the goggles off and observe which light is lit. When you change the heat setting, the beeps change in tone, and when you change the vibration setting the vibration feedback is immediate, so these settings at least aren’t an issue. My other complaint about the physical design of the SmartGoggles is the finish of the padding around the eye sockets. It’s a soft, smooth leather-like plastic or vinyl, similar to what you’d find on the ear cups of a nice pair of headphones. It’s well-padded, it blocks the light and it has enough texture to keep the goggles from moving too much… but it is not at all breathable. Every time I use the SmartGoggles I find my face sweating after a few minutes, and a few times I’ve had to take them off before a program finished because my face is just too warm (even with the heat off). I get why the padding needs to have some grip, and I like that I can easily wipe the goggles down to clean them, but I have to wonder if there’s another material that might be as soft and light-blocking but still allow some air movement. Maybe a fabric that could detach and be washed or replaced? As it stands, be prepared for a bit of dampness around your eyes, especially if you sweat a lot or have oily skin. Design aside, what about the performance of the SmartGoggles? I’m pleased to say they vibrate, heat and massage as Therabody claims they will. My favorite function is definitely the massage, which alternates applying pressure to your temples and to the area between your eyebrows. I’m impressed with how much pressure the SmartGoggles can generate, particularly in the temples. The push and release really does seem to alleviate tension, again especially in the temple area, which is where I find I carry most of my eye strain. The pressure massage between my eyebrows is more subtle, but it’s there, and seems to help as well. I’m less convinced of the effectiveness of the vibrations, although it is neat that the SmartGoggles can vibrate in tune with your heartbeat. Each program uses the vibrations a bit differently, and I don’t dislike the vibrating, but I’m not exactly sure what benefit it carries. It does give you something to focus on and even breathe in time with, though. Finally, the heat is comforting, but as I noted above my face gets warm and sweaty just wearing the goggles, so I tend to keep the heat off. Connecting the SmartGoggles to the Therabody app allows you to choose from a library of different programs and this is where things get kind of neat. The goggles connect easily via bluetooth and I was immediately able to start trying out different programs. I like that you get a countdown after you select a program to give you time to adjust the SmartGoogles to the right position, and the accompanying sounds are a neat touch and even offer the benefits of meditation. You’ll definitely want to try these with earbuds in for the maximum effect. When the program finishes you can see your tracked heart rate, which is neat as well. All told, the SmartGoggles are unique, well-made and fairly easy to use. They offer simple setup and lots of available programs through the Therabody app, and enough customization to dial things in to your personal preferences. I wish they were less sweaty on my face and had more strap adjustments, but as they are I am able to wear them relatively comfortably. They have not completely transformed my sleep, nor do they make me as relaxed as a human massage might, but for a pair of goggles you can fold up and take anywhere I think they do pretty well. They’re certainly worth a try at the end of a long day in front of the computer or when you have trouble sleeping, and as long as you’re not expecting a miracle, I think you’ll find them a useful addition to your self care toolbox.

Conclusion Overall, the Therabody Smart Goggles are a great addition to any wellness routine. The Therabody Smart Googles is something I never knew I needed till now! My job requires a lot of mental energy throughout the day, and I always seem to be bringing work home with me. So, by the end of a long workday it’s sometimes hard to shut my brain down for bed. These googles seem to be the answer for helping my brain to completely shut down and fall asleep. Because after using these for a week I’m very impressed at the results so far! I am the type of person that really likes to sleep in a dark room. Lately I’ve been using something to cover up my eyes because our bedroom is so bright, so I’ll use a t-shirt or a pillow to make it seem darker than it is. So, the idea of using something like the smart googles with complete blackout features along with vibrations, heating and massaging features was very intriguing to me! Initial setup couldn’t be easier. There’s a Therabody app that you can pair Bluetooth to the app and I believe there’s a second version of the APP on the way soon. But you can also use the device without pairing it to the app! There are 3 different modes with the Smart Googles. SmartRelax, Focus, and Sleep. SmartRelax mode uses a biometric sensor to tailor the vibrations to match your heart rate and gently massages the eye area with heat. Focus mode is more for releasing tension or helping with headaches by using a single vibration pattern that’s purpose is to relax while pairing it with heat. And Sleep mode gently massages the temple with slow-wave vibrations. Each mode is further customizable with four vibration and three heat settings. First time using the googles was very surprising because I fell asleep with them on. The googles will gently press and massage and vibrate around your eyes and temples. It feels like someone is giving you a nice massage and the heat element adds a further level of relaxation. The sounds woosh around you and make you feel very comfortable and still, coupled with the 100% blackout, its very relaxing. SmartRelax is probably the mode I’ve used the most so far, but also use Focus mode when I need headache relief or more stress relief after a tougher day. The battery for the googles are very good, I haven’t had to worry about charging hardly at all over the last week. But these googles have become part of my nightly routine! I recommend the Therabody Smart Googles. They are very good at what they do by helping you wind down at the end of the day. The 3 modes have good variety to them and the battery life performs well. 5 out of 5 from me!

I’ll just start off by admitting that this exceeded my already high expectations when it comes to execution. Out of the box, you can tell it’s a high end device with sleek packaging, the goggles, charging cord, and carrying case. The device came semi-charged but I immediately plugged it in to get this charged to full. It’s hard to tell how long it takes to charge to full but I’d estimate 1-2 hours? I put the goggles on and while it’s a tad heavy and think, I was immediately impressed with how comfortable it is. There’s three main presets which are sleep prep, headache/eye strain, and relaxation, all of which have different massage and heat settings. I haven’t used the relax setting but used the eye strain one a few times to good success, and have used the sleep prep setting nightly. Genuinely, I can say I’ve gone to bed more relaxed, and fell asleep faster, in a deeper sleep than I historically have. My wife is an eye doctor who tried the device and thinks it’s great as well. The wife’s only complaint is that the indicator lights on the device are very bright in a dark room, especially when I’m using it in bed next to her and it’s close to her face. Unfortunately there’s no way to turn the lights down or off. Despite using a preset function, you can still cycle through the heat and massage settings if you’d like, unfortunately there’s no indicator as to which setting you’re moving too and from, so if you’re trying to turn the heat up for example, you can’t really tell if it’s on low/medium/high and many times may just turn the heat off, it’s really hard to tell and frustrating. Additionally, I imagined with the blackout feature I’d wear this with a sleep prep function and sleep all night with it in, but with the device’s bulky nature and me sleeping on my side, that’s not happening. Theoreticallly if you sleep on your back you could wear this all night, but don’t plan on it. Lastly is the app companion which is actually one of the better app companions I’ve used. It’s super easy to setup, isn’t invasive, and offers a bunch of presets, various in length that you can set the goggles to synchronize with. For example, you may elect a rainforest theme with low heat and a vibrating massage that lasts for 25 minutes, in which time your goggles will automatically start/stop and your phone will play rainforest sounds throughout the time. While I wish they would play audio directly from the headset, it’s still a good feature to have. All said, in a perfect world, the device would be more comfortable to wear all night, would play audio, and not be so bright, but despite those flaws, it’s still comfortable, easy to use, and has noticeable benefits and for that, it’s getting a thumbs up from me.

The SmartGoggles from Therabody are a really innovative product that are advertised to assist the user with relaxation, stress relief, and better sleep. Right out of the box, I found that these goggles are stout! They have a very solid build quality which makes me feel like they are gonna hold up a very long time. The only drawback on that respect is these goggles are pretty heavy. That would be my only complaint! They are heavy and that force does slightly push down on the top of my nose making it slightly hard to breath through my nose. I have a large head, I admit it! When I use them I let the head strap all the way out and it is still rather tight on my head. That is why the rating is 4 starts instead of five. Enough about my complaints though, let's talk about the features and what it does. This headset does several things. It has three different heat settings and the top setting gets warm! It vibrates to massage all the way around the top and bottom of the goggles. It also inflates/deflates on the sides of the goggles to put pressure on the temples. The goggles keep track of your heart rate throughout the cycle with a sensor that is on them. The smart phone app lets the user customize the experience by selecting the heat and massage levels. There is also different audio files that can be used (they play through your phone/bluetooth earbuds) to relax pairing the sound with the massage functions. All in all, this is a neat set of goggles. After the treatment it lets you know where your heart rate started and where it ended after the treatment. My heart rate did go down during the treatment. If you need some assistance relaxing, give the Therabody SmartGoggles a try!

The fit was awkward and too tight, uncomfortable and the noise the goggles emitted was too loud. I had to return these.

The massage feature is way too loud to use when you have a headache/migraine.
