Customers love the BOLT OTA 1TB DVR & Streaming Player's ease of use, reliable DVR and recording features, and excellent picture quality. Many appreciate the comprehensive channel guide and the ability to easily skip commercials. While some users mention limitations in app support and the necessity of a subscription, the positive feedback on core functionalities outweighs these concerns. The remote control also receives high praise for its intuitive design.

This unit seems to be as effective as the Roamio that i replaced it with. The only real complaint I have is it only supports four tuners. The cable version offers six so I don't know why this one can't do the same. the extra two tuners would be useful when you want to record more than two shows at a time that overlap. Since many networks don't follow a strict time table, sometimes a show set to record between 7-8PM will actually begin a minute or two early or end late. for this reason they offer in the settings to extend the recording to cover this possibility. however, if you have three shows to record from 8-9PM, one of these shows will not record or will be cut short because only four can be recording at the same time. with six tuners this wouldn't be a problem.

I have tried the inexpensive way (about $50 product) and found that path was not reliable, had buggy software that would sometimes get stuck and cause a reboot, and died within less than a year. This product is very much better, its got a solid user interface, and has repeatable operation that allows you to record and save Off The Air TV shows to your local hard drive. The Guide service, which is required for operation (although technically should not be needed to make the Bolt OTA function), is a reasonably good Guide. It is a bit frustrating to be required to use it to make the box work. That said, the Bolt OTA does have a good TV tuner inside, and provides a great OTA HD picture (when other products do not seem to offer the same performance). Overall a good product.....would get 5 stars if the Guide service were not required to make it work.

We bought this last year. We don't have cable and didn't want to get it because we already pay for so many streaming memberships. It's great to be able to watch local channels, dvr them and have a guide. The only downside is HULU has issues on this device.

Have been a TiVo customer since 2008 and decided to buy an upgrade box now that we mostly use TV antenna recording. I also have experience with Channel Master "service free" DVRs however the experience is what brought me back to TiVo. Program details, 2 week guide views, and much cleaner/polished menus (plus greater storage capacity) is what drove me to buy another TiVo. Couple of months in and we love it and all the new capacities we have including 4 tuners to record from. It does some quirky things such as rebooting randomly here and there but I wonder if I have enough ventilation in the entertainment center. Overall I would recommend this product and don't know how we watched TV without it before!?

I used to be a DIRECTV senior retail account manager and before that was a rep for RCA and GE consumer electronics. I was in the business when TiVo started. DIRECTV sourced TiVo dvrs from the start. I liked the product then and am just thrilled to have the product back finally.
For the past two years I used the DISH Hopper which was fine.
But this TiVo DVR is better. How? The remote. Although is uses the original form factor, that design is as perfect a fit for your hand that I have ever encountered. The functions it has are wicked fast and accurate as well.
Because Hulu and YouTube TV was going to have me watching commercials and huddles during the football season, I was shuddering at the prospect.
Now, no commercials and I am saving the $127/mo for Dish or DIRECTV.
Because of my former experience and confidence with this company, it hardware, and service I got the ALL-IN service offer for $250 lifetime. It transfers to a new TiVo device should this one ever croak.
My OTA antenna, Roku device, this dvr and service will be saing me thousands of dollars, and my TV video experience is now better than ever.

The menus/ease of use was good on this device.
However, I took it back the next day.
Got a good deal on it as deal of the day, but when I got it home I found out what I got would only work on a single TV connected by HDMI.
If I wanted to view it on a 2nd TV it was about $130 or $150 to buy the additional device for that.
If I wanted to be able to view it on a phone/tablet that was another $130 or $150 additional device to purchase.
For over $300 it stopped feeling like a great deal for replacing my Plex server.
If they re-worked it to not require buying additional devices, I would get it again.

Skip the BOLT; it's not a ROAMIO

This was the second BOLT that I tried out 8 months apart. I returned both. I gave the second BOLT a chance because TIVO customer support led me to believe the first was just defective. If it was, then I ended up with 2 BOLTS with the exact same defects.
Both BOLTS had a metal whine that I suspect comes from the fan than is underneath the unit. Having it face horizontally may be the reason why. When my fridge was not running I could hear the whine 40 feet away making the both BOLTs the loudest DVRs I've ever had. Yes, I have a quiet home and very good hearing.
But annoying as that was, the "showstopper" and the reason I returned both is because with TIVO's new HYDRA OS, pytivo and other tools (generously provided by the TIVO consumer community) have been disabled for moving recordings to the BOLT. So the only way to transfer the recordings from my old faithful Roamio is using TIVO Online. Well for almost half of the 30 different recording transfers I tried the recording on the new BOLT was corrupt at some point. I mean at some point when playing back, the picture would freeze and the rest of the recording was lost. I tried different routers and hardwired cat6 connections but none of it helped. The same recording transfer would fail in the exact same place no matter how often it was transferred. When using the BOLT to play from the ROAMIO, the same recordings were fine. But that doesn't avoid the issue that when the ROAMIO hard drive is at the end of it's life and fails, the recordings are lost. I hope TIVO will address the problem with transferring recordings from previous TIVO units with the EDGE model or I'll switch to another provider.

Allows you to pickup broadcast HD TV channels (when you connect an appropriate antenna for your area) and stream your favorite shows from Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc. The signal strength meter is a great tool for selecting and positioning your antenna. The only drawback is that you have to pay a subscription fee for TV schedules ($7/month or $70/year).

If you are looking for a way to cut costs. I recommend dropping the satellite or cable get a good antenna and a TiVo. You can record, pause live TV, and enjoy a menu just like the high priced options out there. If you decide to get a mini for additional rooms be warned it is best to you a Ethernet connection WiFi has issues.

Tivo Bolt OTA is super simple to use. Pair this with a great antenna and get ready for some pain-free entertainment (once you have paid the lifetime membership) We love the guide and recording. It's a shame you cannot transfer the membership to another unit if something fails on the current unit, but there's always a catch, right?

Had the previous Roamio OTA, but the fan started to whine after 2 years. Long story short, I got this replacement. It's cheaper, but has subscription fee so it's a total wash. I also purchase extended warranty because the internal fan tend to whine after long/extensive usage. You can replace the fan yourself if the warranty has expired...Just Google it or search on Youtube.

Tivo makes a very good DVR they seem to be lasting and come with a good guide. Makes it easy to review all your shows.
It also allows you to record several different channels at once but to make the guide work you do have to hook up to the Internet every 10 days.

The dvr works well and automatic ad skipping is a treat. It also does a good job streaming netflix and amazon. But beyond that, it's mostly services nobody has ever heard of. Most of the big names are missing, so no sling or googletv for you. I haven't found any way to stream hgtv, adult swim, or bbctv.

This box is well better than the tablo I tried first. Mind you the tablo is cheaper in the long run but it has a lot of issues with hardware and software. The tivo has been easy to record episodes and searching for shows to record is a lot better than tablo where it could not find half the shows I wanted to record. Tablo says they have a 14 day guide but even when I got a free year subscription still could not go past 24hrs. The tivo I can go the full 14 days you can even go back in the past if you want and if you see something you missed can either stream it from Netflix, hulu, prime, etc or can buy the episodes from amazon. The tivo is the better option but until there apps for different platforms come out you will spend more cause to watch in more that one room you need mini boxes.
