I really loved this game. It's funny how it came out so close to Final Fantasy VII Remake. The gameplay is kind of similar in a way, switching between 3 party members with action RPG gameplay, but obviously, it's way lower budget and simpler. But the simplicity of it all really spoke to the old school gamer in me. It's slightly janky, but the core combat is a ton of fun, and I'd love to see more SNES RPGs get this style of remake. My only complaint, aside from the atrocious voice acting, is that it's a bit too easy, even on hard mode. But still really fun!

Really enjoying this game the graphics are beautiful the combat is different and fresh compared to alot of rpg I have played its similar style to star ocean and final fantasy 12 on ps2 were you attack and your team mates join In but the items is different to revive and heal e.t.c you press the up on your D pad characters all have background story you can choose to do or just carry on but it does add bit more to gameplay if you did as you get to know each character they start to grow on ya love the anime style and cut scenes and the fact they added English voice you can choose the original voice Japanese and the story unfolds as you go and it makes you wanna play more as you wanna know what happens next very cool indeed
One of my top 10 games totally loving it

The game does what a remake should do best. It gives something new and refreshing for both original fans of Seiken Densetsu 3 and newcomers an experience they'll enjoy. The music offers both the original score and a revamped one and you won't go wrong with either pick. The character desgins are simplisticly great and the battle system holds true to what make Mana games different from SE's other titles. Lots of replayability in this game with different routes, character growth and party combinations. The only place that needed more improvement would be the ENG VA; you can tell who were the professional VAs and who were newer to the field. 4/5 experience for me

It is gorgeous and plays far better than the recent Secret of Mana remake does... I got it about 6 oclock last night and ended up playing it for about 6 hours straight. It is definitely fun to play and reminds me of all the things I enjoyed about this series without anything that feels out of place. The music is good, the combat is surprisingly decent, the graphics look great.

I can't say enough positive things about this. The original game, Seiken Densetsu 3, was good. I enjoyed it, but the largest draw back to it was the combat. This remake fixes all of that. The combat is pretty basic, think musou games basic, but with dodge rolling, the ability to hotkey spells/items on the fly, and a few special attacks- the combat is just complex enough to be enjoyable, but not overbearing. As with the original game, characters can be modified to play, generally, how you want. Between the six characters there are enough classes and options to make a number of interesting team combinations. And, with the ability to change the difficulty at any time, you never feel like you *have* to play the best characters/classes to play the game.
The game stays pretty true to the original, otherwise. The story is the same, as far as I can tell, and outside of the game being put into a 3D environment, the towns, environments, and enemies are pretty much the same across the board. The voice acting is... Serviceable. It's standard JRPG fare. The graphics are good. They serve the aesthetic.
Overall, I highly recommend this game. It's a great remake, everything you could ask for.

I used to play the original on an emulator, and loved it completely. So of course I bought this one when it came out!!! In my opinion, it started off too easy, but is now getting more difficult, which is awesome! There are multiple levels of play, and I am playing on hard. The controls are a little weird compared to other PS4 games, but it doesn’t take long to get used to it. Some of the voice actors, especially for Charlotte, are incredibly annoying, and the gameplay isn’t quite up to par with other PS4 games, but I’m still completely obsessed with this game!

Solid Remake of a Beloved Classic

Trials of Mana originally released in Japan in the mid-90's as Seiken Densetsu 3 and was the followup to Secret of Mana on the SNES. It was never released here until last year's Collection of Mana on the Nintendo Switch. Now, a year later, we get a full 3D remake of the game.
Unlike the Secret of Mana remake, this is not a 1:1 retread. The combat is vastly improved and the move to the third dimension gives much more freedom in movement. Unfortunately, to accommodate this new perspective, the co-op feature is given the axe, so no playing this adventure with a buddy (at least the version on the Switch collection exists for this). Also, while I like the remixed tracks, the voice acting leaves a lot to be desired.
What really makes this game standout from other action RPG's of its ilk is the ability to pick three protagonists out of a roster of six, and have the story alter itself based on your choices. This adds replay value to an otherwise shorter game, as there are three potential final bosses you can encounter as well as an epilogue that didn't exist in the original game.
If you're in the market for a middle tier action RPG that plays like a throwback to simpler times, then Trials of Mana is perfect for scratching that itch. Hopefully this leads to a Legend of Mana remake in the future (as long as they keep the co-op next time!)

This is a remake done right. If you're a fan of the Mana series you won't be disappointed and you can't miss out on this. Originally Seiken Densetsu 3 or Secret of Mana 2, this one didn't come stateside. If you played it on an emulator you can see how much better this remake is compared to the OG immediately. Square Enix fans don't pass this up. But be forewarned that if you want the platinum trophy you have to play through the game three different times. The story line changes based on who your main character is and even though you can go through the game twice with two different parties of three to cover all six characters there are actually three different storylines.

A good modern port of an old classic. I never have played the original before, but this gave a good idea of what I was missing. I have played the original Secret of Mana before, so I have some knowledge of this series. For those who want to see how good old SNES JRPGs are like, you should try this game out.

Trials of Mana is a 3D remake of the original SNES game Seiken Densetsu 3, but it was remastered for the Nintendo Switch on the Collection of Mana. This game lets you choose 3 characters in the game, but only follow one character as your main character throughout the story. The game is very unique and the action RPG is very good in this game. The graphics and areas keep true with the original and it looks great as a remake. If you are a fan of the series or action RPG's, then this is the game for you.

Trials of Mana is a fantastic game for fans of classic JRPGs. Somehow the developers managed to create an extremely faithful remake that still feels modern. The game has a large amount of character customization, fun combat, memorable characters and locations, and an amazing soundtrack. My only complaints are that the story shows its age (the game doesn't tell the most complex tale) and it's too easy, even on hard mode. But overall the game is a gem.

I skipped the Collection of Mana for this instead and I’m happy I did. A fresh new coating of paint and some nice quality of life improvements make this a fun action RPG to waste 20ish hours (plus new game+ if you’re into that sort of thing...) graphics are pretty sweet but the voice acting is mostly mediocre. You can definitely tell that this game comes from a simpler time; I kinda appreciate that but don’t look for any complicated battle systems or crafting mechanics or deep lore. It’s all pretty straightforward but moves at a nice pace and I enjoyed it overall.

Very fun JRPG that revives this classic. Remade for the modern audience, this action-RPG brings you back to the basics. No complicated leveling, customizable classes, hidden storylines, multiple playable characters, etc. Would definitely recommend for a chill, but openly challenging RPG. Also has easier difficulties for a more casual player.

Always wanted to play this since e the original SNES version was never released outside of Japan. This HD remake is beautiful, and very fun to play. Much better remake than Secret of Mana was. Takes the original game and cranks up everything... graphics, music, character models, everything! Highly recommended if you're a fan of the Mana series.

If you're looking for a game to give you the feeling of playing a classic SNES RPG in 2020, this is for you. The ability to swap between modern and original music scores is a great bonus. The English voice acting is a little bottom-drawer, but this is otherwise exactly what most people want when they talk about "remakes" of classic games.

The gameplay of Trials of mana is very fun. The fights and traveling around are innovative and fun. The character upgrades and job paths are neat and yield a variety of builds for your game play and style of how you'd like your characters to level and grow. It's a really neat game that is visually appealing and fun to play. My main draw back I find is that most the main characters voice acting is pretty bad and cringeworthy LOL. But overall it isn't enough to ruin the fun of the game.

I never played the original release once it was released in america, but I've played several of the mana games and this one has been just a good as Secret of Mana and all the rest.
The replay value is high as you can only play 3 of the 9 characters and you have to choose at the start of the game. The characters you choose affect the main story and the bosses you fight.
I do hear that some of the voice acting for some of the characters is annoying, Charlotte has a speech impediment like a baby which is mildly annoying at 10 hours or so into the game.
The fighting really stands out and is a great action system the only complaint is the camera adjustment. You can lock onto a target and sometimes it will adjust to look at the target but other times you can get the camera trapped in a corner causing you to have to adjust the camera manually in the middle of a busy battle.
The game has been a blast so far despite some very minor complaints. It has been a welcome distraction during the quarantine break.
