After a thoroughly exhaustive search (probably 2-3 weeks) for a bluetooth capable headset I purchased the Stealth 500P to use with my PS4. I bought it to use for online gaming with Destiny http://www.bestbuy.com/site/destiny-the-taken-king-legendary-edition-playstation-4/8241029.p?id=1219690433333&skuId=8241029 . Prior to now I had a Trident wired headset that served me well for about 4 years. That headset completely shut down and stopped working. When this happened I decided the replacement unit would be bluetooth capable because the wire and the mic control for the Trident would almost always be in the way. I almost didn't purchase the Stealth 500P. The major knock on this item in almost every review is the build quality. The other unit that I gave major consideration to was the Sony Playstation Gold http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-gold-wireless-stereo-headset-for-playstation-4-and-playstation-3-black/3353002.p?id=1219091055230&skuId=3353002 unit. The Sony received almost perfect reviews at every retailer I checked while the Turtle Beach unit usually rated about 3 out of 5 stars. When I opened the box I was instantly impressed. The set looked really cool with the easy rotary controls, glossy logo on the ear coverings and the perforated ear cups. The Stealth 500P proved very easy to set up. It took maybe 3-4 minutes. I'm not really a fan of the boom mic because for me it's a distraction I always find myself looking to when I should be focusing on the screen but even it looked cool. When I handled the set and went to place it on my head I immediately understood what the reviewers were saying. The band felt like if I didn't move very carefully when moving the set off and on it would surely snap. Once seated the set was very comfortable! Band pressure was just right and the cups were soft and cool. The controls for muting chat, game volume, sound presets and chat volume are all in one easy to reach place and very intuitive. With all these pluses I packed up the set and begrudgingly returned it to the store. Actually I didn't return it I exchanged it. I exchanged the set for the Sony Playstation Gold. Fear of winding up with a broken Stealth 500P is the sole reason I took it back to the store. Had the set felt as sturdy as the outgoing unit I would absolutely have kept it! Upon opening the box for the PSG I was unimpressed to say the least. What kept running though my head is why are the reviews so high for something that looks like this? I thought to myself maybe the love is in the engineering. Upon inspection the PSG set looked bland and very cheap. The set looked like something that should cost about $25. The PSG set was definitely sturdier and in fact felt quite heavy. The cup size looked huge but the cushion on the cup is way too thick in that there is very little room for my ear to fit inside the cup. The controls also while all located in one place seemed far less intuitive to use and difficult to read. Once on the PSG set wasn't very comfortable. The headband seemed to slide back and forth regardless of how tight I made the band. Once gaming I noticed a few other differences not in favor of the PSG. The sound while praised and lauded online seemed fine but not as detailed as the Stealth 500P set. The PSG also had lower volume, shorter battery life and shorter range. While connected with the Stealth 500P I could walk away and into the next room or up to the next level and remain connected. The Stealth 500P would also last 7-8 hours of continuous use while the PSG set struggled with 5. After two weeks of play and testing the PSG unit went back in the box and back to the store for, you guessed it the Stealth 500P. I am back up and running with the 500P and I am very happy with my decision! I will go back and purchase the extended warranty to protect my interests. Had the build quality been up to the tasks for the rigors of use that gaming headsets come encounter I would gladly have given the set a 5.0.

Ive had this set of headphones now for about 2 months. Overall Ive been pleased with them. Ill keep this review very direct and hit the main points that I think are important. First off I have extensive experience with gaming headsets - mostly PC headsets. Ive been a pc gamer for over 15 years and have used countless headsets throughout the years. I feel that this set is a good wireless set, with just a few drawbacks. Sound Quality: First of all people should know that this set uses 2 drivers - one in each ear, so the surround sound effect you get is more like a "virtual surround sound". Ive never used a set of "surround sound" headphones that ever came closs to matching a true, full room surround sound system, though some definitely do it better than others. This set is middle of the road with its surround sound. Some games on the ps4 worked and sounded good with it, while others sounded "canny" and unnatural on many of the settings. There are several options to choose from, all adjust the sound to highlight certain frequency ranges. The on saving grace though if you find the surround sound settings annoying is that you can throw the headset into normal Stereo mode, and in stereo mode they sound really good. You could totally ignore the surround sound and still enjoy this set for its wireless capabilities and other features. They do have the line in port which will allow you to plug them into any headphone jack on any device - Smartphone, MP3 player, computer, etc. Sound quality overall however is good, with some games not sounding ideal with the surround sound. The main issue I found with the surround sound is it often sounded "canny" and/or hollow. Bass sounded good, especially in stereo mode. Music sounded good. Battery Life: One of the big positives of this set. You will use it for days on a single charge. In 2 months Ive only charged it a handful off times. I will use it several hours per week, and the battery just doesnt die. Other reviews talk about an easy 18 or so hour battery life and I would back this up as well. Comfort: I wear glasses - they do begin to hurt over time. They have a bit of a tight fit. Its not a big deal to me because I rarely sit with them on for super long periods of time. If you regularly have 8 hour gaming sessions though they could become uncomfortable due to their tight grip. Mic: Its a basic headset mic. It sounds on par with many other gaming headsets ive used. The talk back feature is VERY minimal. I think it is supposed to merely mimic how you would hear your voice with the headphones removed, but in loud games its largely non existant (much like your voice would be normally in a loud environment) With the mic on, in very quiet times there is the audible high pitched hum that others have spoke of. After seeing this in other reviews I expected it to be much stronger however. It is there, but even in moderate volume levels you dont hear it. Turning the mic off will kill the hum however. I think the hum is mostly a result of the talk back feature. Wireless range and quality: Wireless range I felt was pretty good. You wont be walking out and checking the mail or anything but I can freely walk around my house without dropping sound. Id say the range is roughly 20 feet before you start dropping in and out, depending on walls. With no walls and a straight line of sight I can do nearly 40 feet or so into my kitchen without losing connection. They easily cover a large living room, and well more area than a wired set could. Id rate the set a 7/10 on a 10 scale.

So let me preface this by saying I don't have a lot of experience with many types of gaming headsets. Saying that, I love these headphones. They were the second pair I got for the ps4, which I got from returning my first pair which were the playstation golds. The playstation golds I found to be very weighty and uncomfortable with my glasses. I was also not very fond of the ear padding on the golds as my ears would sweat easily after 20 mins which isn't usually a problem for me. These TB Stealth 500s are definitely better on all of those issues I had with the golds. The sound quality is about the same to me though I might give these 500s a little better rating for that. I also favor the 500s surround sound over the golds VSS. Comfort wise, they feel good and not a problem playing 2, 3, 4+ hr sessions whereas the golds weight around the ears made me want to stop after an hr or 2. The padding for the ears I believe are the same basic material as the golds but these have mesh like holes in them which definitely make my ears sweat less if at all. I wish they were Bluetooth capable but oh well. I did notice some slight buzzing audio-wise that I had seen a few others comment about but this seemed to last for only a day or so and felt like the headset just needed to work itself out. As much as I like these for gaming, I love them even more for movies. They are great for movies and fps games. I read some complaints about the surround sound in these headphones making non fps games sound worse or what not but I haven't found that to be the case. I'm not sure if I'm just running a different set up or just less temperamental about such things. I consider myself an audiophile but not an expert either but I'm very pleased with this headset. My only complaint and which the golds have over this, Imo, is that you don't have the possibility for developers to make specific profiles for their games like can be done with the golds. The presets have been enough for me but I haven't seen enough to make me feel as though the golds didn't run away in this area. However one thing I did not like on the golds and love about these 500s is that the golds have only one dial to control the chat audio and game audio volume whereas these 500s have 1 for each. Now it may seem less important and more logical that if you want to hear chat audio more, you'd turn game audio down or vice versa and maybe that's true to a point. But I like having the ability to adjust each how I see them and not be limited as one is with the golds. All in all, I would certainly recommend these.

Starting off in standard stereo mode, the 500P delivers clear, enjoyable audio that works up to a reasonable range of around 5m (though walls will reduce this). The sound signature is typical of a gaming headset with fairly prominent bass and slightly boosted treble but it’s not totally overdone, making the headset still suitable for a wide variety of listening. They use a closed back design, which in theory should mean they block out a reasonable amount of external noise – especially with that tight seal they provide. However, noise reduction is fairly minimal so they’re not quite so suited as we’d hoped for use while out and about, though at least fellow passengers will be happy you’re not leaking your music out onto the train/bus like you would with open back headphones. Playing around with the different audio profiles, they all do as you’d expect, with the vocal boost actually doing a surprisingly good job of bringing voices to the fore. Overall, though, we felt there was plenty enough bass already in the Natural sound profile that none of the other bass boosting profiles were needed. As for surround sound, we’ve previously been rather impressed by Turtle Beach’s virtual surround offerings but here we were less so. There simply didn’t seem to be quite the same sense of space as on the Z300 for instance, though of course that’s somewhat understandable given that headset’s higher price. Nonetheless, we’re generally advocates of the use of virtual surround sound and here it did help bring games and films to life that little bit more, opening out the sound stage and matching sounds to their perceived location that bit better. We find it most benefits competitive gaming where the greater sense of space and distance allows you to better track where sounds – and therefore enemies – are coming from. As for battery life, Turtle Beach’s claimed 15 hours seemed accurate, with us easily exceeding tens hours of use in our testing. The headset will also automatically power down after being left idle for a few minutes, to save battery too, which is a handy feature.

For the price, the 500P Stealth is an amazing headset for gaming. Pros: I haven't used it on PS3, but the PS4 setup is really simple. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The sound quality is good for the price of the headset. It is often on sale for the same price as the 400P Stealth headset, so getting this one is a no-brainer. The surround sound is nice and there are a few settings that can be played around with, toggled by a button on the right side. I thought the vinyl might stick to my skin a bit as leather-like products tend to after a while, but it doesn't stick at all. The headset is comfortable on the head and doesn't feel too heavy. The mic quality is good according to my brother, and can be adjusted using the PS4's settings. The chat and game volume are controlled independently on the headset. The battery life is pretty amazing, and I'm sure it's actually lasted longer than the advertised 15 hours. It also uses a micro usb port, so any phone charger can be used to charge it, which is convenient. There are more pros but it's a lot to write. Cons: After a while it can press my glasses into my ears which can ache a little after a long gaming session (several hours of use). Not sure if people who don't wear glasses would have this problem. I believe you're supposed to be able to hear your own voice from the headset, but it doesn't seem to work on mine, though it did the first time I used it. I must have hit some setting that turned it off, but I haven't looked into it. I have been told that the mic sometimes picks up my ceiling fan and can cause an intermittent buzzing noise. Finally, from what I can tell you can't turn off the flashing blue lights while it's on and in use. It can be annoying if you're using them in the dark. Overall, if you can catch it on sale for $100 (which happens often), get it over the 400P or the Sony Gold headset.

I am a previous PS4 Gold headset owner (which i returned because the companion app did not work) I picked up a pair of the Stealth 500P yesterday (10/14) after searching for reasonable priced good headset and I must say I was very impressed. The previous reviewers are right these are snug but not on the head rather around my ear lobe... where i feel the Gold set was more comfortable for long sessions. The sound quality on these is amazing, the bass is deep and the surround sound is great too so far played WatchDogs with these and used on my phone to listen to music again the sound is excellent for music. Now the reason why I gave only 3 stars is because the Mobile connection seems to have a bug. To preserve power the 500P has a 10 minute time-out and it will turn off if there is no sound while connected wireless. This is supposed to be only a wireless feature and not come into effect when connected via the mobile cable to my phone. Not the case for me every 10 minutes a warning comes on in the headphones that auto shut off will engage and to stop i need to press the power button which I press, but the headphones turn off anyway. I have emailed Turtle Beach tech support and am waiting for response. Will keep you updated.

Great Sound. Good Ergonomics. Poor Quality

As an older guy (but new gamer) I was very excited to purchase a higher end head set to make gaming even more fun. I chose this headset after being disappointed with the lower quality headsets made by Sony. I returned the Sony Silver Headset because it was so uncomfortable and picked up this Turtle Beach model. Pros. - Very good sound. Great Bass. (Maybe even a little too much base) - Easy to set up. Good instructional videos. Easy for a tech novice. - Ergonomics were well thought out and the controls are easy to access. Cons: - Quality of construction. After six months the telescoping adjustment to fit the headset to the head broke on both sides. The materials are not durable at all. Please know that I don’t have some melon head. I wear a typical 7 1/8th baseball cap. I should have saved my receipt. I didn’t. Hard lesson learned. - Value: The headset is pretty expensive. Moral of the story, save your receipt or buy the protection plan. They sound great but will break on you because of poor materials and workmanship.

These sound good and have fairly good features such as independent chat and volume controls. They fit ok on me but eventually felt uncomfortable. Everybody is different so they could feel better on someone else. They sound as good as any simulated virtual surround headphones I have tried. They may lack some bass as nearly every review of just about any headset out there mentions. The main problem is that they use a USB dongle and have a optical cable connection to actually receive input for virtual surround sound. That means that the USB dongle plugs in to the front of your PS4 and a short optical cable comes from the dongle to the back of the PS4's optical port. Because of this, they don't work on the PS4 slim because it lacks an optical port. It also means that you have to disconnect any stereo system optical connection you might already be using on your PS4. There is a work around to use optical out from your TV or receiver in the case of a PS4 slim but that means a longer optical cable which is not included and even more complicated connectivity. I got them to work on PC using the optical audio and USB as well so they are PC compatible but the optical plus USB makes it so you probably wont switch them between systems regularly. For the price I would say very seriously consider the Sony Gold Wireless headset over these as they use only a single USB dongle for simulated 7.1 on PS4, and I found they work flawlessly as stereo headphones on a PC and Mac without additional drivers provided you switch your audio output in system preferences or control panel.

Having read the reviews prior to purchasing, I was very concerned about the construction quality and dealing with the possibly brittle head band extenders. They don't appear to be as rugged as they could be but only time will tell if that ends up being an issue. My hope is that if there is one, that Turtle Beach has a decent return/replacement policy. As for the function, I primarily purchased these for use with COD on the PS4. Headphones may not make me a better player but for and older player, they have clearly made a difference as long as I pay attention. I'm not sure what the comparison would be with stereo headphones rather than surround sound but so far, I am quite pleased with the results of surround sound and being able to detect the location of footsteps and sounds that are around me. I have a larger head but so far, I've played for hours at a time with them with no comfort issues at all. The earcups swivel well and fit comfortably and there is not problem with the head band. Removable mic is a nice bonus since I don't generally use it but it's there if I want it. At half the price of the top tier headphones recommended by serious gamers, this is still an investment but a much more middle of the road choice for casual gamers like myself. I feel like this has made my game much more enjoyable without having to invest nearly as much as my game system costs. Construction will probably always be a concern and if I was making my living playing games, I might have invested more but for what I paid, I'm very pleased with this choice so far.

I have had this headset about 6 months and in that time have had 2 break on me just as shown in the pictures posted by the previous review. All I did to break them was grab them by either speaker and remove them from my head. The headset is very uncomfortable and tight. Both pair have had a low buzz in them. I've also had complaints about others hearing a buzz as well. Strengths is the battery life. Sounds is more full then the PS headset but then again has the buzz. Warranty has been taken care of each time. Cons: Comfort cheaply made buzz did I mention they are cheaply made. Im adding this to the con as well. I offered to pay the difference and get the $300 headset. Explaining that with my extended warranty if I keep getting them replaced at the rate I am I will have gone thru 20 headsets. They still refused to allow me to get the better headset. I would stay away from this headset. For the price the PS Gold headset it better.

I absolutely love these headphones! I had purchased the px4 and was not satisfied. They were simply outdated compared to current turtle beach models. Now I have read a lot of mixed reviews about the 500p and all I can say is try them for yourself. I play a lot of Destiny with them and they are as clear as you would expect them to be. You can hear which direction footsteps are coming from in pvp matches. The preset eq settings are ok. Make sure you try them all out for whatever you're doing, example I would play destiny with the music mode, or watch movies in stereo mode. That is another feature I like, being able to use these with anything that uses a 3.5mm jack! Wireless with other media devices would have been better but at least the mic is removable. So that brings me to the mic, everyone I asked said I sounded clear. Being able to control the chat volume off your headset is great. The mic monitoring however was not so good. You need to have the mic literally on your mouth to able to hear yourself. For me not a big deal but might be for others. To summarize the rest up, ear cushions are comfortable, headband has enough cushion, 15hrs of battery sounds accurate as I never timed my usage sessions, and finally the wireless distance allowed me to got to the bathroom without interference ( when you got to go, you got to go!). So for the price I don't think any headphones can touch the quality or features that Turtle Beach can provide.

I am not an audiophile by any means, but I do know when I am experiencing great quality. This gaming headset hits the mark! The headset was one of the better purchasing decisions I have made when it comes to consumer electronics. I did spend a little extra for some of the added features that the less-expensive versions did not have and I am glad I did because of the added DTS Surround Sound. I love the wireless capabilities, volume adjust for hearing and mic separately, as well as the variable listening modes. A couple minor drawbacks: 1) continuous blue flashing lights on both ears while operating can be annoying to others around you, and 2) would be good to know the battery life remaining prior to and during use. Quick fixes - cover lights with dark tape and just recharge the battery when not in use. To be clear, I have yet to have the battery died on me. It would just be good to know. Perhaps there is a way to check these 2 items and I just haven't figured it out or done my homework on them. Either way, this does little to diminish my experience with the product! I highly recommend! I just checked the current pricing at the time of this post and this headset is currently priced the same as the Turtle Beach 400 model. I would not hesitate to go with these 500's for a minute! This is a great deal and I DO NOT work for Best Buy!!

Ok, so I have never had headset that covered the ears before. My last one was the 'official' PS3 headset. This headset of course blows it out of the water! I heard a lot about the quality of Turtle Beach's headset but never imagined it to be so good for this price. I was debating on getting this one or the 400 for a bit less and do not regret it. Some of the mentions of it being snug is true but it is not squeezing the head. It is just right. The battery life is amazing and the mic is very flexible. The sound quality, which is what you are all interested in, is so good I am surprised that this headset is being sold at $129.99. The surround sound is incredibly clear. You can hear every little movement. The ability to control the game volume and chat volume separately is greatly useful. Overall well worth the price. P.S. no one else has mentioned it so maybe I am just stupid for not knowing it before but you can also do (from what I have done so far) limited voice commands to the system through the headset. I think this is another nice perk.

I upgraded to these from a pair of turtle beach xp500 (converted over to ps4 from my Xbox 360). I was looking for a quality surround sound headset that was completely wireless (wireless chat as well). The first thing I noticed was a MAJOR increase in bass. After I got past the wow of the thump,. I found my old xp500s to be a bit more "spacial" in the surround sound,. They felt almost as if I were listening to my home theater instead of a headset,. The sealth500p feels more closed in. I was a little disappointed the stealth 500p is not customizable through the turtle beach software. Also noticed they block out a LOT more outside noise. That can be a pro or con depending on your situation. Pros:. Huge bass, quality surround sound ( no problem picking out enemy location), wired aux cord to hook to phone or mp3 player for music while gaming, 100% wireless surround sound and wireless chat, great battery life Cons: feel a bit more closed in than older models, mic monitoring not the best ( hard to hear yourself talk at times). No Bluetooth connectivity for cell phones. Not customizable through turtle beach software Overall I give this headset a solid 4 our of 5 stars,. For the price it's hard to beat

These are fantastic! The sound quality out of these is about the same as the Astro A50s, and at nearly a third of the price and with a lot less equipment! The setup is simple and well laid out in the manual, and the transmitter is just a small USB dongle and an optical to Toslink cable. The downside is that there are no rear USB ports on the PS4, so you're forced to leave the USB transmitter in one of the ports on the front while the Toslink cable loops around the unit to the rear optical port. and it takes away from the aesthetics of the unit. However, it's not the manufacturer's fault, it's Sony's for thinking we only need front panel USB ports. At first I purchased them just so I could use my PS4 without waking anybody up at night, but now I can't play anything without them! I can actually tell which direction enemies and animals are in Far Cry 4, which makes it that much easier to find them. The headband does feel a bit cheap since it's plastic, but I don't feel like these are going to break any time soon. I also have a big head, and they fit pretty well, they aren't overly snug or heavy and they're more than comfortable enough for a long gaming session. They are definitely worth the price, and I highly recommend them.

I bought this headset to replace my old P11 headset to work with my new PS4 purchased here at Best Buy. I didnt use it for the first couple weeks, then slowly would use it here and there still not enough to need a charge. Once the headset finally required a charge I let it charge over night, then it would not power up the next day. If I held the buttonto power it on down it would turn on, but as soon as you let it go, it would turn off. If you plug the USB cable into it, it wil power on like normal, but you would need a really long usb cable not to mention its a wireless headset! I got frustrated and stoppped even trying to mess with it. Sent an email to Turtle Beach to help, would take at least a week to get a response, then they tell me to check thier website knowledge base, nothing on there to help me. Finally I recently got an email response from someone else at Turtle Beach to use some software and do a hard reset, well its too bad that they didnt bother reading where I said its a 500p not an X, the 500x can use the software, mine cannot... so im almost at 5 months with a pretty much useless headset with no sight of getting an exchange or replacement yet.... Would not recommend!

I love these Headphones. This is a Great improvement over any other headsets I've used for the PlayStation four. I love how they make the sounds from my games ( Starwars Battlefront and Far Cry 4) seem to encompass the entire room. They also work great as music headphones too. I compared them to my Beats and my Wife's Boses headphones. I would say the Turtle Beach Stealth 500P were actually better especially with sound details and clarity in both music and games. Oh course Beats bass is deeper but not as clear. My only two complaints are, there is no Bluetooth and plugging the transmitter USB dongle. The transmitter dongle can not work without also plugging in the optical cable to the PS4. Transmitter USB dongle works fine in my PC without the extra cable. This is a small gripe. Turtle Beach does supply optical sound cables as well as a 3.5mm cable and a micro USB cable. The sound is so great, these two complaints are very minor. 500P's are also great when playing World of Warcraft and using its microphone to do in game chat. I have asked other players how does my microphone sound on their end? They all say very clear with no distortion. Would I recommend Turtle Beach Stealth 500p? The answer is definitely yes.

ok first off i would like to say that i have tried alot of head sets tritton turtle beach sony and polk audio and ex now that is out of the way u guys know i have used them all, this 500p headset is awful the 3.5mm headset adapter that came with it while using it with my cell made static sounds so i used my skullcandy wire that came with that headset and no static, next thing is the mic monitoring is bad so low you can barely hear yourself and the build quality is low due to the plastic material they used i almost snapped the headband while putting them on so i returned them. on the + its a loud headset clear while you are in front of your ps4 if you move away too far they will start that static sound i do not recommend this head set i am surprised this model has not been recalled

For the price this headset is great. Its wireless, sounds quality is good and battery life last about 18 hours. This all truly depends how many breaks you take. I enjoy the ablity to turn on and off the mic from the headset. Other great features include the ablity to adjust sound from in game and sound from chat. The mic is also removable incase you don't want to use the mic. The Headset tells you when it's on by lights in each ear peice and a audible message inside the headset. I don't like the feedback from the headset when it is plugged into a power source. This only seems to be an issue while attach through the audio input jack. While connected through the Bluetooth I have no yet had this problem. I have also used this headset to connect to my phone. Unfortunately you have to use the input jack to use with your cell phone. Works great if you're waiting for a phone call and you want to play your game at the same time. One major problem is that the plastic arms that connect each ear piece are weak. If you're not careful they break easily. I have found that closing up the headset will keep it from being snapped in half. Regardless of these issues I found that it's a great headset for the price.

I gave these a try after several unsuccessful attempts with a competing brand. While I loved the sound and fit/feel of the original set I tried, I had successive issues - in one pair, the battery wouldn't charge, the mic wouldn't work in the second. After becoming increasingly frustrated, I gave Turtle Beach a try. The 500Ps worked out of the box and I've had no technical issues (to date). While the 500Ps aren't as comfortable as I'd hoped, there are articulation points (such as a swivel band where the ear piece meets the headband) that, after adjustment, allow me to forget I'm wearing them. I also like that, when desired, I can easily unplug the mic boom and remove it from the headset - this is especially useful if I'm using the headset just to watch tv at night. One thing I have noticed is that the mic adds a continual hum to the audio output. This does get mitigated/go away when you turn off the mic via the button on the headset. On a plus: the 500Ps do have several audio presets one can cycle through, depending on desired use/tonal output. All in all, a decent set of wireless headphones that give decent sound regardless of what I'm streaming: Netflix, Media Player, Games, etc.
