I love this Mario chess. My seven year old, whom I bought it for doesn't agree. He thinks its boring. Personally I find it an adorable way to play chess!

I bought this as a gift, so I did not open it all of the way to see the actual chessboard and all of the pieces, but the tin and the presentation will be a great gift for my grandson who I hope will be inspired to play chess because of his love for the Mario Brothers. If you wanted to you could use the chess pieces on the top of a birthday cake for a theme birthday party. I am very pleased with the quality of the set from what I can see of it without opening it all of the way.
