The game play is the same as other Valkyria games with a very intriguing story. It's not "open" so it may not be for everyone, but if you're into a fairly indepth story and have played previous games in this universe, it's a must have. The Memoirs from Battle Premiun Edition is magnificent. I was more excited at getting a tank than the actual game. The other collector items inside was nice, but not quite as cool as having the tank. Best Buy was great with price matching so that I can get the best deal available.

AWESOME oversized special edition set! As for the game itself, the best playing version is on other consoles but being able to play such a game like this on the road makes it a winner.

Disclaimer: If you are NOT a fan of RTS (Real Time Strategy) games, then please do NOT waste your time. First of all, let me say I have played a more than a few RTS games, but not a lot. They are a great way to build patience and critical thinking skills. However, that it NOT why I play them. Valkyria Chronicles 4 is a great game you may not ever hear about, but do NOT pass it up. If you like strategy, a good story told in a unique way with a unique style and proper emotion, nice lengthy campaign, and single player game, then this is worth a try. You will not get Hollywood blockbuster cut scenes. You will not get tons of action sequences. What you get is a game that forces you to think BEFORE you act with an emotional story told in storybook form. The voice acting is great and each one actually matches the character on screen. You will grow to care about them. Even some of the newer ones. Completing missions is not difficult, but going for the "A" rating will take some real effort in many cases. There is sufficient side content in the form of Skirmishes and Squad Stories which add to the replay value and story, but none of it is required and unlocking them is NOT difficult. There are many characters each with both positive and negative traits for you to consider when going into battle. However, level progression and completing Squad Stories can alter their traits. The game has 6 character classes each with their own distinct pros and cons in addition to a few vehicles. Something else to note for those that prefer a challenge is that this game DOES have permadeath (permanent death). So if you do NOT rescue a downed character soon that you care about, say goodbye to them forever. The game also has a great musical score that perfectly fits the mood of each scene. This game even ties in the characters from another game in the series: Valkyria Chronicles which is strictly digital. I plan on playing through that story as well. Moving on, I purchased the collectors edition of the game which included some DLC, a hard copy of the game's diary which is cool, and a toy scale version of the game's tank...the Hafen. If you like a good story with plenty of emotion, strategic gameplay, and good content, then this game is for you.

Amazing collectibles in this version such as a model tank and extra missions that add value to the game as well as a themed collector's art book. If you're a fan of strategy based games, look no further. Any players of the original Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3 will love this one for the switch. Great strategy game you can take on the go and battles once you've won are extremely rewarding.

Didn't know what to expect when I impulse bought this game, but I absolutely love the game mechanics. It switches between a tactical strategy RPG game to a real time action shooter. I recommend this to anyone who likes Anime, WWII strategy games, and those who like tactical strategy games with planning on which troops to send where on a map to complete various missions. Very glad I picked this up.

Let's be honest, I don't think anything would capture the beauty of the first Valkyria Chronicles game. Gameplay, story and character design were all top notch. The two that followed stumbled, but the 4th installment was a return to form. Not as good as the original but boy is it still a fun time.

I loved the original Valkyria Chronicles, and this one is right up the same alley. The story runs parallel to the original game, but thankfully you don't need to have played one to understand the other. In fact, you don't need to have played any game in the series to jump into this game. If you like strategy games, I recommend this one. The light action elements keep the game from getting stale or repetitive, and the war story and personality quirks of your squad members keep the game interesting.

You don't need to have played the first three games to enjoy this. The story is self contained, and doesn't ask you to know anything about the older games. If you like Final Fantasy Tactics, Disgaea, or Fire Emblem pick this up.

Valkyria chronicles 4 is a fine strategy game for the Nintendo switch. The battles require thought and foresight to overcome and the story keeps it interesting. VC4 is a lengthy game as well with lots of side missions.

If you are familiar with the Valkyria Chronicles series, this plays a lot like those versions. If you love tactical RPGs this is a must own. Also the included goodies look great on a shelf. Box is Huuuuuge though.

I have really been enjoying VC4. I love the art style, the storybook layout, and being able to go back and replaying battles for a better score. The story is good so far (I just finished chapter 4)

I never got around to playing any of the previous entries in the series, but this one leave a good first impression. Reminds me of a Fire Emblem game of sorts with more freedom of movement and attack due to the semi-real time attacking system. The game also looks beautiful with it's hand-drawn type of artstyle. Glad I took the plunge on this, and I'm looking forward to someday picking up a copy of some of the previous entries (of the ones that had a release outside of Japan).

This is a great game on the go. I got a sweet deal for $40 and its worth it.

This game is set during the events of the first game and tells a more coherent story than the past games we’ve been getting in the series. The tank is a little lackluster but the artbook is top notch.

I like the game a lot and reminds me more of the first than the more recent ones. It's a lot better this way. I like the style of combat and the art style a lot. Good game.
