I have been awaiting this game like no other. The original Valkyria Chronicles was one of my favorite games of all time, and I can safely say this new entry surpasses it in all the good ways. For a special collector's edition, this is a pretty good deal. It comes with the large box to contain its special items: A miniature replica of the tank featured in the game, a 100-page art book designed around the journal seen in the game, a controller skin with the game's dog mascot, and two DLC missions not available until a few months after release. The tank statue is great and will make a nice shelf display, and the DLC missions and controller skin add a nice bonus to the core game experience, but my favorite item is the art book. Even at just 100 pages, it's very nicely put together and includes tons of concept artwork and designs for you to get a better feel of how the game was created visually. All in all, a nice collector's edition package. The turn-based strategy with a mix of real-time third-person shooting is as wonderful as ever, and this game delivers all that and much much more. It's way bigger than the first game, with more side content and battles to fight. There are also much more extensive scenes, though they are presented in a visual novel portrait style more often than real anime cinematics. Still, it tells a good story and isn't as cheesy as the original, and the watercolor painting graphics are still beautiful to behold. This game is a must-have for anyone interested in something different, because there simply is nothing else like it (except maybe its predecessor). I highly recommend this game for newcomers and fans alike, because there is a lot to love here for anyone who is into video games, anime, comics, war, or just a generally great experience. P.S. I would like to give a shout-out to Best Buy for having this promptly available on launch day when I came to pick it up. Excellent customer service from the pre-order to the full purchase as well. If you are a fan of the series, then you know what you're getting ... and you'll be pleased. Great story with turn based strategy as well as some rpg aspects. It all adds up to many hours of fun! Cool tank too.

This series hasn't had a console release since the 1st one on ps3. I'm glad this day is here. It's a jrpg, that uses strategy element gameplay, for positioning and turn based combat to do battle. It's an interesting system, I enjoy it. It's mission based, so the only map to wonder is the battlefield. That's ok and a good thing, you don't always need "open world" to make a game good. If you aren't used to jrpgs, there's alot of talking, so be ready to sit around for awhile not doing anything than reading and listening. Something most of us don't do anymore, but it's a worth while game at any price.

This is the sequel I was waiting for all these years. I played the second, which was alright but was kind of cheesy with it's anime style high school drama plot. Never got to play the third since it never released here, though I heard it was pretty good. Finally Azure Revolution was fairly anemic, but this is a glorious return to form. Play it if you liked the original at all. The special edition was pretty good. The art book is quite nice. My only real complaint would be that the tank statue is way smaller than they present it to be, it fits in the palm of my hand easily, but it looks nice.

Went back to the roots with this. I love the art style and game play it feels amazing and the story is wonderful

What can I say, I fell in love with the anime (and some people say that the anime isn't that good) so when I bought my PS3 I bought the first Valkyria Chronicles, and this game is the same but more, game mechanics that strategy games can enjoy, a compelling story, just try not to think too hard on the plans, and I bought it for 3 systems, some digital of course. But definitely recommend this game to anyone who liked the first game.

VC4 returns to the gameplay of VC1 but with some new twists that keeps it fresh. New classes, Squad Stories, Extra Stories! This runs parallel to VC1 and tells the story from the Federation POV. This version has cussing and adult themes but nothing overbearing. Great game! I got this edition for the Squad & DLC (wanted to get it early) and that DLC is great. The journal and tank are great as well.

Probably the closest in quality and gameplay to the first Valkyria Chronicles. It's too bad 2 and 3 are so hard to come by in the US, but being that they're pretty much separate stories, it'll be fine for most to jump from 1 to 4. Great game, art style, fun turn based combat. Highly recommended!

I was a huge fan of the 1st Valkyria Chronicles game and after the disappointment of the other titles in the series, this one returns the series to where it deserves to be. Amazing story, interesting characters, beautiful graphics and well designed combat.

As a huge fan of Valkyria Chronicles, I was really excited for this release. It did not disappoint! Same great art style, great characters, fun gameplay with new soldier types to keep things fresh. Give this one a go - it is a lot of fun.

VC4 is still fun to play. It is different from Squard 7 in the term of charecters, but it’s still not an easy game like its look. Full of deep tactic and turn-based style, which fan series will enjoy. And the Tank is awesome. Love it. ^^

I love the game and the mechanics. The first game was my XCOM until Fraxis made the remake. I could play the first one in front of my family because there was no blood or foul language. However, this one has added curse words. Bummer.

Excellent sequel for the original game. Interesting combination of real-time/action and strategy. The controller skin is essentially just a sticker kit, but the model tank is good quality.

This game is part tactics ala Fire Emblem, part RPG, part third-person shooter. This mashup is a match made in heaven. Plus it has a great story to boot. Pick this up.

This game is very much like the original in terms of gameplay mechanics. If you're a fan of a mix between RTS and turn based strategy, I'd pick it up.

As stated in the title, if you enjoyed VC1, you'll love this game without a doubt! Quirky characters, fun gameplay, and a good story.
