Battery life sucks. Doesn’t get great service or even good service. Bought it to carry when I go to movies or outdoor activities and didn’t want to carry the big iPhones. Bought one returned it within a few days thinking I got a bad one. The second one same thing. Returned it as well. Time wasted and A disappointing product.

I bought the unlocked, standalone version new direct from Palm. All you REALLY need to know about the Palm phone is that it’s basically a tiny Android phone with an equally tiny battery. As you might expect, this means that battery life sucks, and even on max font size, text can be really hard to read, and on-screen targets hard to tap accurately. Palm did come up with two software tweaks to mitigate both of these issues somewhat. There’s a simplified home screen of scrolling icons without text (kind of similar to the Apple Watch), and “Life Mode” - an option which makes the phone go into airplane mode whenever the screen is off. Palm advertises life mode as being a way to unplug from the world and spend less time glued to your phone - but I suspect that another equally important reason is that it’s the only way this phone can get through the better part of a day without needing to be recharged! Handily, Palm provides a quick way to temporarily disable life mode for a few hours in case you’re expecting a call, etc. But in my day or two of using the phone before sending it back, at least for me, life mode seemed more like a bandaid to fix a hardware shortcoming, rather than a clever way to help me focus on the world around me instead of my phone - and honestly, with a phone this small, I was much less interested in using it compared to a regular phone - but maybe that’s the idea? Hardware-wise, despite being small the phone felt substantial and well made. Performance was acceptably fast and photos were pretty good. There’s only one button for power/standby (volume can only be adjusted via the UI) and no headphone jack. To save screen space there’s a little 3 dot LED below the screen that replaces the navigation icons; tap once to go back, twice to go home, and hold for multitasking app menu. I found this to be intuitive and easy to use. Palm also includes a way to swipe and do a gesture to quickly launch an app when unlocking, but I found it to be tricky to get to work. Face unlock thru the camera worked quickly and reliably. Palm also included a leather (or faux leather?) case with the phone along with both a neck and wrist lanyard. The case looked nice but it completely removed tactile feedback on the power button, and it caused the phone to constantly reboot into recovery mode when charging - I guess it was causing the power button to be pressed in. And the two ends of the wrist lanyard wouldn’t stay attached no matter how I pushed and twisted them. In summary, for the money, I think anyone considering this phone as a companion device should get an LTE smart watch instead. You won’t need to sacrifice connectivity to get much better battery life, and rather than squinting at microscopic versions of regular apps you’ll use ones designed for a small screen in the first place. And if you’re considering this as your main phone, you’ll only be happy if you have the hands of a baby, the eyes of an eagle, and you either never use your phone or you carry a power bank with you everywhere.

I’m a week in to owning the Palm and wanted to share my impressions. Regarding battery life... With careful management, the Palm’s small battery is sufficient. But of course the whole point is to ‘dis-connect’ from online life, so managing your expectations is at least as important. Camera: It’s not stellar but again... I urge you to manage your expectations. For most users most of the time, selfies and ‘of the moment’ stills are just fine. Software... I am using Verizon’s Message+ text software. It’s not as good as Apple’s iMessage but then again nothing is. Palm’s skin over Android is smooth in actual operation. Tiny screen: Yes, it’s small and typing lengthy texts or emails requires adapting your style compared to larger screens. The screen is sharp and watching videos on it presents no great difficulties; it’s not ideal but is not designed for lengthy viewing. Again, adjust your expectations and you’ll be pleased. The Palm isn’t for everyone, especially heavy users of course. But for a night out, quick errands, and in-car use it’s a nifty smart phone.

I have this little Palm and absolutely love having it. Some days I don't use it at all but mostly I use it to check texts and emails and see incoming calls. I can put it in my pocket and take it into meetings with me. I can leave my phone at home and still be okay. The battery life isn't as good as the phones but I only charge the Palm usually every other day. The battery goes down about 50% in 1 day if I don't use it alot. If I use it a lot during the day, I will charge it every night but it does last at least a day.
