On the whole this is a well done introduction to the beginnings of the Viking Age. As a person who has done archeological exploration and written much about that period, I found some problematic details. For example, the replica Viking ships built for the production have the steering oar placed on the wrong side. The modern word 'starboard' comes from the Viking 'Steering Board' which was mounted on the right side of the ship. But if one overlooks some errant details and the overplayed gore in a few spots, this is a fascinating series.

This was the start of a television triumph and great retelling of the Viking lore. Beautifully shot and historically accurate, this is the best show on TV right now.

Just bought the first dvd in the Vikings series. It was very good. I had to go ahead and buy season two and three.

Such an amazing series. I don't understand why the seasons are not longer. Like almost everyone else, the movie shattered my perception of what Vikings and their culture were all about. Pretty much every American junior or high school text book says Vikings were brigands, only pillaged, plundered, and murdered. But in reality, this series tells you they were also fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, and farmers and average Joes, forced to plunder because of circumstances. Plus you have the amazingly gorgeous Katheryn Winnick, and Travis Fimmel is so amazing as Lothbrok. The way that guy acts, you never know what is coming next: a smile, rage, a hug, or an ax splitting apart your skull.

This is a really great show I would recommend it to anyone that is into Viking culture.

great series for a good price hope it keeps going...

I really like season one, it starts out as a very simple story that builds upon itself in a very dramatic way, like any really good series.

Seems like most of the not-rated series out there includes profanity, explicit (or near explicit) X or serious R type scenes. It's almost like producers don't think they can sell anything unless it's chock full or nasty scenes or foul language. Was pleasantly suprised to see this one does not. There are some mature themed scenes but with what they show on TV nowadays, nothing that would make you uncomfortable or hide inside locked BR to view. There is violence & gore but anyone watch the supernatural series lately? Bottom line is good and entertaining series that you can watch in LR big screen.

Great story, very interesting characters and plenty of drama and action.

I have heard from here and there that this show was pretty good, but I have never actually watched it. They recently had this series on sale at Best Buy, so I took a chance and grabbed it for $15. I was iffy on this at first, but it slowly grabbed me. In between the very violent acts, I enjoy the slower parts as well. Learning about the culture is good stuff, and the Priest slave out-of-water so to speak experience is an interesting thing. The 9 episodes flew by. Entertaining show.

A History Channel show as fun and exciting as a bunch of invading Vikings? Wait this show is about Vikings in early Scandinavia and based on actual characters in history Ragnar Lothbrok, Lagertha, Athelston, Floki, Bjorn and Rollo make this an addictive live action drama with tons of intrigue, sword fighting, sea voyages, exploration and yes pillaging. History Channel has renewed this show for Season 4 but you have to watch from the beginning as the farmer transforms to warrior to explorer and conqueror.

Enjoyable series and worth buying. The dark, rainy landscape shots make you cool. The plot is easy to follow and it makes you think it was a tough life to live back in the day. Also, the picture and audio quality are quite good and better than what I saw on cable when the series was shown. Worth buying the series. Not a series for kids either.

Don't thinkt of it as a GoT copy, because it isn't even close. The cultural aspects of viking life are treated with a little more care and we can see how the vikings interact with each other and other cultures; however, by no means should it be considered as a tool for teaching history lessons. Honestly, the characters are a tid bit more real, strong but because their life as farmers and fightsrs has help develop that strength. Quite frankly, it's a breath of fresh air.

I watched the first episode on tv then got busy with work and forgot all about it, so I bought the dvd's just before the start of season 2. It starts with a small tribe of Vikings who go against their leader's orders and goes east in search of plunder. They come back and are branded as troublesome and are watched closely. The continuing drama after sets up an amazing story with good actors, writers and sets. It makes you feel as if you are there watching the events unfold.

The right actors at the right location with the perfect director and awesome script. In these times it is really hard to find a TV series that captivates as much as this one does in each episode. It's like watching "Family Ties" in violent/gore mode. I keep rewinding because I want to relive each episode to its fullest. I don't think I'm ever going to watch the end of it if I keep going backwards. Entertainment at its best.
