Customers recognize the Food Processor Attachment's ease of use and excellent slicing capabilities, with many praising its performance and convenient storage. Positive feedback also highlights its powerful motor and generally compact size, although some find the price point to be a drawback. A few users experienced challenges with lid operation and compatibility with certain blender models.

We were in need of a food processor, and found this on accident after doing an internet search. Since we already had an Ascent 3500, we gave it a shot. Wow! This thing is just as good as a stand alone machine, if not better. All the blades and things store very nicely inside (see picture). Would definitely recommend if you already have a Vitamix Ascent series.

The Vitamix 12-cup Food Processor attachment allows you to make your Ascent series blender deliver an even LARGER variety of foods and recipes and will simultaneously help to unlock a new range of options that wouldn’t be possible without it. The attachment will allow your Ascent blender to slice, dice, shred, and mix in ways that a standalone blender can’t. Like everything Vitamix makes, the Food Processor attachment has super high build quality all around, offers convenient self-contained storage for cutting blades – and delivered exceptional results in every recipe I threw at it.
===============================================
>>>>> Detailed Observations after a regular usage: <<<<<
===============================================
Prior to introducing the Vitamix 12-cup Food Processor attachment into my kitchen, I was making due with an off brand standalone food process for my chopping/slicing/shredding/ and mincing needs. While it succeeded in doing those things on a basic level, it took space on my counter (which in my kitchen is a premium) and was a pain to clean out sue to its cheap design (I often found myself cutting my fingers on the blades inside of it as a result). I was delighted that the Vitamix Food Processor was wide and very easy to work with right out the box. You can obviously tell they put thought into how the food processor attachment would integrate with Ascent series blenders, particularly how they match perfectly when used together in function and appearance, in addition to how nicely the unit can be stored together as one unit … especially if you find yourself short on counter space often, as I often do.
The unit comes with 2 round “reversible” cutting blade discs – that allow you to fine tune your shred type/size as well as your slice “thickness” or “thin-ness”; along with a vertical “multi-use” blade (or spike as I like to call it) – that handles your chopping, mincing, kneading and mixing duties. While this was more than enough for my uses in the recipes I make, I can’t help but feel more fine tuning or adjustment would be appropriate to really get that perfect grate or shred that you’re looking for. As it stands, the “few sizes – fits all” they include in the box worked for me and will most likely work the majority of your recipes as well. I liked the fact the cutting discs had finger holes in them (that helped me to reduce my accidental cuts that I was complaining about with my old processing unit).
The “Self-Detect” base has worked as described the entire time. This feature is important to me as I have 3 little ones, my youngest being 2 – that has recently started discovering how to use chairs to access the counters and get things out of kitchen drawers. The base unit itself has worked flawlessly with the Ascent 3500 series blender I have in kitchen and never failed to detect it. Despite the obviously heavy plastic build of the work bowl, lid and base - I REALLY like the fact the main drive contacts and components are METAL – giving a high level of confidence that it will last for many years to come. I though the self-contained storage section was a brilliant additional to help reduce clutter AND ensure all the parts of the processor stay with the unit while in storage, I know I have lost more than a few pieces the countless appliances that have graced my counter tops over the years.
Arguably the most important part of this review is the Food Processor’s actual performance. I started with a nice homemade salsa recipe to see how the “multi-use blade” would handle the mix of whole Roma tomatoes, red onions, and garlic cloves along with soft leafy cilantro and canned jalapeno peppers. Sadly, it didn’t turn out as well as I’d hoped – I wound up basically liquefying the first batch as I was adjusting to the learning curve/speed/sharpness of the multi-purpose blade. I’ll chalk that up to mastering the digital pulse button on the Ascent 3500 in addition to underestimating the cutting/chopping power of it (especially compared to my old inferior/dull unit). Fortunately, armed with that knowledge I expertly was able to produce the creamiest guacamole I have ever made at home thanks to this attachment!
I make a fairly large amount of homemade soups, and the Vitamix Food Processor is noticeably more precise in its cuts now that I have had the chance to use more. This has saved me a tremendous amount of time in my prep work for the soup bases (particularly in mincing my garlic and onions), along with saving a lot of time and effort in my coleslaw and salad prep nights. Although there may seem to be some minor function overlap between the Ascent blenders and this food processing attachment, trust me when I say if your cooking for more than just yourself – the Food Processor’s larger and wider work bowl is significantly easier to clean and work with when your making certain foods like spreads, soups, dips and salads. I personally think the 12-cup capacity is the perfect size for a family of 4-6 for most recipes, but can be a little small if your making large amounts of prep for a family party or get together (not that we are supposed to be doing in these “pandemic” times). Personally, I am going to give making my own pizza dough a try in the near future to see how this Food Processor can make that happen.
If I had to say there are some areas for improvement, I would say that much like the Ascent Series blenders, I am not overly fond of the all plastic “clips” / “lips” on the work bowl tops. If your hands are wet, they can get slippery and somewhat difficult to work with, and the food pushers can collect some of your finer minced or chopped ingredients a little to easy do the recessed way the sit inside the work bowl. Additionally, as much as I appreciate the added safety of the “Self-Detect” base, they way the long plastic piece insert into each other can potentially be a point of failure after rough use or over many years of repeated insertion into and out of the unit on a regular basis.
=========================
>>>>> Closing thoughts: <<<<<
=========================
Just when you think your Vitamix Ascent blender can’t get any better – this 12 cup Food Processor attachment comes along and redefines your expectations. You might tell yourself that your blender can handle some of these functions, along with a generic food processor as I did – but I found myself to be very wrong about that. The Vitamix 12-cup Food Processor attachment had made my prep time even more effortless and consistent, while simultaneously reducing clutter and saving me cleaning time at the end of the day. In my honest opinion, Vitamix does not make low quality products – and this is no exception. I mentioned this previously in my Vitamix Ascent 3500 review – but these products are investments into your kitchen that will enhance your cooking techniques and style that can be difficult to quantified into a “price”, so to speak. If you are Vitamix owner with a compatible Ascent series blender, this high-quality food processing unit will last for many years to come and allow you to do more with your blender. You can’t go wrong with this product.

My favorite part about this attachment, apart from how well it works, is that it takes up so much less space in my kitchen than the full-size Cuisinart I've been using.
Out of the box it comes with a fairly standard set of blades in a non-standard package. The storage box for the discs is just large enough for them to fit, and it tucks away neatly into almost anywhere you could think to put it. Or, if you're so inclined, the entire package can be assembled for storage, bowl, lid, and blades as a single unit.
It performs as well as quality standalone machines on everything I've thrown at it so far. It's actually a bit more powerful than I'm accustomed to, and I've had to adjust for it.
The included inserts include a standard muilti-use blade, and two discs, which cover large and small shredding, and thin and thick slices, which covers most uses.
The work bowl itself can detach from it's base if need be, and has a pour spout, which is a nice convenience. It also feels easier to clean than my other food processor. Somehow, food doesn't tend to wind up in difficult-to-clean spots as much, or maybe it's that the vitamix just has fewer of those spots to contend with. And because it's easier to use and clean, I just find myself using it more often.
If you have a Vitamix blender, I definitely recommend checking this attachment out.

The 12 cup Vitamix Food Processor Attachment is the perfect add-on to our new Vitamix Ascent blender.
It expands on the already large variety of food items you can prepare with the blender alone.
For those of us with limited countertop real estate, it is great to be able to combine two appliances into one. And when not in use, it is designed to stack in a way that makes it easy to store in a cabinet.
The food processor attachment comes with all of the necessary parts and attachments to utilize it to its fullest extent. You get the self detect base which attaches to the blender motor base, the work bowl, a multi-use S shaped blade, the snap on lid, and the small and large food pushers. You also get two reversible slicing and shredding discs. These discs are labeled with numbers and descriptions so that you are always sure of using the correct cutting disc. They also come with their own storage container which attaches to the processor when disassembled for storage. They also have finger holes for easy gripping without cutting your hands.
When assembled for use, all parts fit together snugly. There is no squeaking or loose parts when gripping or lifting. All parts except the self detect base are dishwasher safe, however I prefer to clean by hand which is quick and easy.
When attaching the processor to the blender motor base, it will automatically detect the food processor.
At that point you can only use the pulse and on/off buttons. All of the pre-set program buttons will no longer work. Also, the variable speed button will not work as the food processor will only work at one speed as intended.
Vitamix also includes a small recipe book which is designed to show the variety of food that can be prepared with the food processor.
The first ting we tried was grating cheeses and potatoes. It took seconds to produce perfect results.
Finally I can get rid of my hand grater which has taken its toll on my fingers.
Then we tried home made coleslaw, slicing red and green cabbage and carrots. It was quick and easy and far better than store bought. Slicing cucumber, zucchini, squash, carrots resulted in perfectly even slices. This is important because it allows for even cooking. Almost no pressure is needed when feeding food into the chute.
Finally we tried something we never could have tried before. We made salmon burgers, using fresh salmon, with the multi-use blade.
This product had opened our eyes to the possibility of making so many types of food that we never thought we would be preparing at home. We can’t wait to try our own pizza dough and a variety of breads.
We will definitely be getting a lot of use out this product. It is well made, very thoughtfully designed and is fairly quiet to operate.
I highly recommend this product to anyone who has the Vitamix Ascent blender.

Great Add-on

This food processor add-on is excellent. You not only get quality that Vitamix is known for, but you also get the power your vitamix blender provides.
Had one issue that caused me a little confusion in the beginning and this I believe applies to anyone who has a Vitamix Ascent 3500 and uses the app. When you insert this on your vitamix base, you see a message under the blender section that says Unsupported container placed on blender. I was going back and forth in the directions to see if I was doing wrong.
What I realized is, I believe the message comes up simply because there are no recipes in the app associated with the food processor. I came to this conclusion simply because when you insert the food processor add-on, the image of the blender does show the food processor installed as shown in the pics I included in this review.
The blade attachments are sharp so be careful when handling but know that this will have no issue slicing and dicing. I have used it to make a nice pico de gallo which was amazing not to mention an excellent cole slaw that hands down beat any store bought slaw.
So far, this has exceeded our old food processor which we have now given away as this does what our old one did and then some.
I highly recommend this add-on if you are in the market for a food processor.

Vitamix just became more indispensable. The blender is great for many things and although you can get away with chopping or mixing dough, it's not really meant for it. A food processor is designed to do this type of work and makes things like cutting butter into flour for biscuits or pie dough, an easy task. Having it as an attachment both saves space and makes additional use of the powerful motor in the base of the Ascent 3500 series. The base senses when the attachment is in place and disables the blender programs. It easily pureed tough pieces of pork for my terrine where, in my experience, the meat usually wraps around the blades causing the motor to bind. I grated cheese and veggies of various sizes without mess. It worked quite well with no issues and no overheating.
My favorite feature that sets it apart from other food processors is the way it all snaps together, no twisting the lid on. Even the base snaps on with a very sturdy metal latch. To remove, push down the latch and it effortlessly pops off for cleaning. For storage, the whole unit with cover and blades snaps together and flips in on itself. A standard food processor has a separate tray for blades that takes unnecessary space. Overall, just a great idea that makes use of an already great blender base.

I just installed this Vitamix 12-cup Food Processor attachment to my Vitamix Ascent 3500 blender. I was in need of a food processor but I really don't have a ton of space left tor storing small appliances either in the cabinets or on the counter. I saw this new Vitamix attachment and hoped it was the solution. And gladly, it was. I wanted to test it out and I needed to make some ingredients for tacos. Perfect opportunity to shred some cheese, shred some iceberg lettuce and then dice some tomatoes.
The attachment is made of several pieces much like a traditional food processor. The base, which you rest on the blender, the bowl which clicks into the base, the lid and a large and small plunger. Assembly was relatively simple and I encourage you to read the instructions thoroughly. The manual has some good diagrams that helped me understand the proper assembly and usage. I read also that the Ascent blender automatically detects the food processor base which is neat. After it was assembled, it was quite tall so I had to pull it out from under my cabinets to use it. I imagine most people would do that anyway. For blades options, you have the choices of a traditional spinning blade (Multi-Use Blade) that fits into the bowl like most food processors, as well as 2 shredding/slicing disc blades. The 2 disc blades have a different blade pattern on each side for a total of 4 patterns: thin slice and small shred on one blade and thick slice and large shred on the other. Those options are more than plenty for me. There are safely measures built in as well. The unit won't run unless the bowl lid and Large plunger are attached properly. I'm a bit of a cooking novice so I appreciate that safety feature.
After everything is in assembled and in place you're ready to go. To use the traditional Multi-Use blade in the bowl, you simply load the food into the bowl and push "pulse" or "start/stop" until it's ready. The disc slicers load like a traditional food processor's disc blades as well and I then used the plungers to feed the items into the discs. There is a large plunger for bigger items and a small plunger inside of it that allows for adding anything smaller. Then you just need to press "start/stop" to shred. This is where I felt practice makes perfect. I had to try a couple of times to get the right consistency of shredded lettuce as I did not know how the the small and large shred discs performed. The first time, I used the "small shred" and it really shredded it into tiny pieces...way too small. I got it right with the "large shred". Then i shredded the cheese with the same disc and it was just right. Chopping the tomatoes was the easiest and I just pulsed them in the bowl. Didn't take much at all.
Cleaning the components was simple as well. All the processor parts except for the base attachment are dishwasher safe. I just loaded them in after use and was good to go. Storage is also convenient as all the pieces stack together like Russian stacking dolls. It even has a separate holder for the disc blades that stack neatly into the set. It took very little space in a cabinet and is definitely smaller than a full food processor.
Overall, this is a great option for anyone wanting to save some kitchen space or who simply needs a food processor. After a little trial and error, It did a great job. Plus, It's easy to clean and store. I'm super happy and I love that Vitamix is innovating in this way. I'm eager to see what other attachments they may come out with as well.

So as I said on another review I wished vitamix had a food processor attachment to the ascent series years ago and here it is. Coming from vitamix you think of just blenders , well now they gave their blenders another use. OMG this should have been done years ago. You can chop, slice, shred and mix. You get 3 attachments that in turn do 5 things. You can't go wrong buying this. Super easy to store everything together . Hats off to vitamix we used this to help speed up those tamales I wrote about in another review . Cut the prep time down a significant amount. Everything is easy to put together and take apart. Easy to wash. I wish I could upload more pics of other things I tried like shaved ice . To better explain it look inside the recipe book. If I had to describe it in words imagine a snow cone it came out like that, I scooped some into a ball and then added the cherry flavor over it. It will do what any other food processor can but you add the power of a vitamix blender and you get consistency. I'm going to retire the old food processor machine because I won't be using it now that I have this one. Now my vitamix can do it all really. Im going to save so much countertop space. Even free up some closet space while I'm at it. RIP to the old food processor.. hello vitamix one! It has good weight to it. You have to make sure everything is tightly sealed if not, it will not start. I like this alot because you are certain that whatever is being done, will not spill out of the container or any other place. So you can keep the container BASE on the vitamix and scoop out whatever is inside by pressing down with one hand and remove with the other. Most pieces are dish washer safe. Please Read instruction manual for more details on this and more. This attachment will only work with those blenders that have the self detect feature.

A meaningful, versatile, must-have accessory

Introducing the Vitamix 12-Cup Food Processor attachment that performs all the precision slicing, chopping, and processing you would get from a stand-alone food processor, except, this one requires a Vitamix Ascent blender (like the 3500) as the motor base. Note though that this attachment will not work with the older Legacy-series Vitamix models (for example, the 7500).
This accessory comes with a 12-Cup dry/9-Cup liquid work bowl plus lid, 2 Food Pushers, 2 reversible slice/shred discs allowing for Thin/Thick Slice and Small/Large Shred, 1 multi-use blade, the base itself, and a practical disc storage case for the 2 reversible slice/shred discs. All items except the base are dishwasher-safe, which is fantastic.
Chopping carrots is so easy, and so is making home-made scones with this accessory: Simply use the work bowl with the multi-use blade, add flour, brown sugar, butter, an egg, vanilla extract, and plenty of raw (but washed!) cranberries, hit the Start button on your blender, and let it knead the dough for about 45 seconds at level 3. Remove the dough from the work bowl, knead some more to spread it out to form triangles. In the preheated convection oven for 12 minutes at 400F, and there you have it: The best scones in your own home! No need to run to the grocery store for that anymore!
I am giving this attachment well-deserved 5 stars. As a Vitamix Ascent 3500 owner, it makes perfect sense to have this food processor attachment as opposed to having another, separate food processor machine. The Vitamix's motor is powerful enough to drive this food processor attachment. Highly recommended.

My wife and I purchased this as she's been making smoothies quite a bit lately and our old Oster (over 20 years and still going strong) didn't seem to get all the frozen stuff she'd put in ground fine enough. So, we decided on the Vitamix Ascent mixer and added a number of the optional items, including the Food Processor attachment (mainly for me, since I do a lot of the cooking).
It is well made and feels sturdy. I haven't actually used it as much as I'd intended since Christmas, but what I've done with it so far, chopping vegetables, has been fine. It certainly powered through a bunch of carrots without any trouble at all.
So, it isn't cheap, but I like the idea of it being part of the system that Vitamix has and the quality of everything is pretty impressive.

Makes your vitamix super multitasking friendly.
Some of you may run into issues where you see the device doesnt register the attachment. Make sure the lid is properly closed and that will help to have it running on its way.
The con i see is there is only one speed and its not adjustable. The storage options are great but it is quite a bulky attachment. The lid can come off while grating hard cheeses so be warned and be careful while doing so.
Cleaning is also sometimes an issue but know that the cup can be detached from the black bottom to make it easier to clean, the bowl and lid scratch easy so use a non abrasive sponge to make sure it stays looking new

We have owned a number of food processors over the years (cuisinart, black and decker, hamilton beach), but this one wins in many ways. It is very quiet especially compared to the hamilton beach. It is extremely easy to assemble and clean, fewer parts and a more durable construction. It has a pour spout. It stores really easily with safe storage for the sharp blades. It also powered through our favorite cheeses! Nothing beats freshly shredded cheese. Other processors jump around on the counter and the plastic buckles when shredding – not this one - it stays steady and stable as it shreds. The only con is the snap on lid, while it works great and gets the job done, it can be challenging to operate with our hands, but it is the same as the blender attachment so we knew what we were getting. Overall, it was an excellent addition to our Vitamix.

Such an amazing addition to my already amazing and my perfect vitamix blender. super easy to clean and use, love the storage mechanics of this product, it does not take up more space, so smooth to take it on and off of the blender. Chopping nuts takes just 2 to 3 pulses, does not have any leaks while making a big batch of salsa or anything liquid bases sauces as it has rubber seal around the top.
i would definitely reccomend this products to anyone who has the reccomended model of vitamix blenders and who are looking to buy a food processor.

Can’t believe how effortless it cut my lettuce. I used the wrong blade as it was too chopped, but that didn’t effect the taste of my taco salad:). Great product but blade storage container design really missed this one! Storage container gets 1 Star for that!
The blade storage container could have easily been designed to stack under the food processor base by changing the shape and design of the blade storage lid. Instead I have to use 2 shelves because the blade container does not fit under (or on top) of anything. Even the processing lid won't sit on top of the blade container which that in itself would have made this 5 stars! All the parts have to be set in the cabinet independently which is a total waste of space.
Lastly, I'm appreciate the lid is secure, but seriously, it is HARD to unclip both sides to remove the lid! I have the 12-cupper against me on the counter to be able to unlock the lid with both hands.
Overall, I have one less appliance because the motor has dual purpose, but I'm still using a lot of space because things are not designed to stack.

It can be a tough sell to pay this much for what amounts to only an attachment. Just think of it this way. Combine this item with a Vitamix and it beats the quality of the slicing and dicing of a standalone machine of would have just cost $100-$200 in itself. You're already spending this much money in the first place, might as well get the 100% perfect product instead of the 40-50% that will leave unsatisfied and wishing later that you would have spent more to get the ideal product.
Rationalizing the cost aside, the product itself again is perfect working with the Vitamix. Cuts are made quickly and neatly, the speed at which it works is amazing. We use it mostly for vegetables but I can see it working well with harder fruits. There hasn't been anything we tried so far that this attachment left us disappointed.
