Very glad to have chosen another Vizio tv. At 40", this one is big enough withou taking over our lives ving room. Picture quality is very good, though it is obvious that we aren't seeing the whole image, as text often gets cut off around the edges of the screen. Why is that? I can't think why anyone would make a TV that can't display the whole picture...but many of them do this these days. This one is no exception, regardless of the resolution we choose. Sound is decent, color seems true, and setup is a breeze.

Replacement for a smaller 32 inch 720p TV of the same brand that iv'e owned for about 5 years. It still works great but I figured it was time for an upgrade. I decided to give Vizio another shot and was not disappointed. After some tweaking with the settings the picture looked great. It might not be 4K Ultra HD like most TV's but it still has a crisp, clear picture. Sound quality is decent but its not going to blow you away with theater like sound. Input wise it can display a picture from almost any device. It has 2 HDMI, Coaxial, Component/Composite connections, an Ethernet port, and audio out ports that can used to hook up a soundbar. With this being a "smart" TV it comes pre loaded with a plethora of apps such as Hulu, Netflix, etc which work as well as they should. There is even a "WatchFree" section that has many channels that you can watch for free, no subscription required. All you need is a WiFi connection, How strong your WiFi connection is determines how clear the picture will be.
Final Verdict:
For the price you are getting a multi-use 40 inch HD 1080p television with a great picture and decent speakers that happens to be a smart TV. I highly recommend.

I like this TV. The picture and sound are good. I set the picture to the game setting and the lighting and colors are perfect for my bedroom. There are a couple of caveats: like others, I notice a lag in the remote's responsiveness. I'm also not happy that the TV can only connect to the 2.4ghz wifi band. I enjoy the array of apps on the television, but the wifi makes the apps buffer and freeze. This glitch, however, was remedied with the use of an Ethernet cable. Given the size and price, I think the TV is good, but not great.

Some glitches and lag time when turning on (yes even when you set it to quick start). There are times I’m staring at a black screen not knowing that the tv is in fact turned on but doesn’t go to the home screen. Usually I just push the pre installed Netflix button on the control and it takes me to Netflix. Some lag between smart casting from phone to tv initially but that’s to be expected. Just want to be honest with you. But for its price it’s a good tv and the fact that it is compatible with my iPhone was the big reason I got it. Good picture quality, good sound. Again it’s in my bedroom and I’m not running a theatre here. I recommend buying it.

This is a solid 40" full HD 1080p TV with plenty of apps already installed. The smartcast works like butter with my internet, it's like watching cable tv. Picture quality is very good with a few tweaks. Some of the picture settings need to be changed from the default setting. Backlight is at 100, knock that down to 50 for less chance of LED bulb burnout (same with brightness). I also turn off any filters like noise reduction that are on by default.

Exceptional value for the price paid. The quality of the image is very good but definitely not stellar. Some disappointments: (1) very slow processor, navigating seems to take an eternity; (2) remote control not user friendly as it's not clear which button should be used for certain specific purposes (e.g. which key brings up the channel listing for YouTubeTV is not obvious); (3) internet-related activity occasionally glitchy (my internet speed tests at over 600 mbs so definitely not the root cause of this issue).

We got this tv at a great sale price and it’s everything we expected it to be and do. It has all the streaming apps you could possibly want and with extremely easy setup. The picture and audio is good and the tv is very slim and light. Definitely worth the price:

We bought the VIZIO 40" TV for our townhouse. We were very impressed with the color and clear picture. The sound is also above average. It is a SmartCast TV which makes it easy to surf from channel to channel and station to station. It was easy to set up.

Not my first choice of brand or TV. But it's definitely proving it's worth I give it 4 stars the color is very bright it is true HD 1080 the speakers are wonderful on the TV, you don't need a soundbar. I usually have this TV on between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and it's never shut off Or slow. It has worked perfectly. Never shuts down or overheats. A good TV for the money.

Got this tv for my 92 yr old moms room & she likes it plenty. I on the other hand have always been a fan of Vizio tv’s. I think they’re a quality tv, great picture, vivid colors and easy to use. Would definitely recommend & would certainly buy again.

VIZIO SmartCast - it's garbage!

The TV is fine. The settings out of the box are decent. I was very worried about the "soap opera effect", since my good old plasma TV didn't have that nonsense. HOWEVER. VIZIO SmartCast is the biggest piece of absolute GARBAGE I have ever used. And the home screen is visually awful. Terribly designed. At least that's not the reason I bought this TV. I bought it knowing full well I'd be using it with an Apple TV. But I thought I'd give the SmartCast a try before replacing my old Apple TV. It's been less than 24 hours since setting up the tv and it's the WORST. It's actually making me angry. Everything is EXTREMELY SLOW to respond. And it's not my internet connection- it's pretty fast.
I definitely wouldn't recommend this TV for those that are not tech savvy. I know people less savvy than I who would have tossed this thing out the window by now.
It's not worth returning, because the TV itself is pretty good, but if I didn't have another option like Apple TV or roku or chrome cast, etc, I'd DEFINITELY be returning it.
PS: it's 2020, why doesn't every TV have a bluetooth option for headphones? Knew this TV didn't before I bought it but still.

Decent T.V. for the price. It has a lot of added features that are accessible through a WiFi connection. Along with that it has a lot of everyone’s favorite apps built directly into it. For those looking for less cables behind your T.V. This would be a nice purchase. I would like to point out that the first one I purchased was returned in a few days because of backlight failure, which left it unwatchable. The return was easy and the current one has had issues but as a precaution I got the extra warranty to be on the safe side.

This is my first smart tv & it works great! Great picture, never have any glare on it. I don’t use the sound too much on it because I have a sound bar but the times that i have its been great! Easy to set up & work. The only downsides is sometimes the apps don’t load & it’ll freeze (which is more likely due to the app itself than the TV) & the fact that it doesn’t automatically turn off after a certain amount of inactivity. It has timers, but you have to manually set it every time. Overall, great TV!!!

I've always been happy with Vizio products, and this one, for the most part, doesn't change my attitude.
However, a couple little nitnoids cause me to give a 4 star rating rather than 5:
The remote is very sluggish. Often takes a couple pushes on the channel and/or volume controls to get a response. Manually entering a channel number is a crapshoot: sometimes you'll see desired results, sometimes not.

I really liked the fact that the Tv has a clear, vivid picture with decent built-in speakers. It also has an ample number of inputs, including composite video. Most importantly, I liked the built-in Chromecast and Airplay. However, I dislike the fact that the SmartCast interface is a bit sluggish, at times being forced to complete a system reboot to refresh apps such as Netflix when they fail to load.

Great picture quality and easy to use, but if you are planning on streaming Hulu from the tv, don’t get it. I spoke with Vizio and Hulu, and neither of them could fix the buffering issues.
I plugged in a Roku devise, and Hulu works fine.
All of the other apps work well with no issues (the ones that we tried).
Only other issue is that you cannot add any apps to the tv, so if you want to download Fubo for instance, you cannot on the tv, but apparently you use the app on your phone and project it to the tv.

This tv has a good picture quality and sound and was very easy to put the legs on. The size is just right in my bedroom. However, don’t expect a super fast response time when making selections on the remote such as changing channels, entering passwords, etc. The onscreen setup instructions were easy to follow but the process was very slow. It is an inexpensive tv and I feel I’ve gotten good value for the price

This worked well as a spare tv in the bedroom with a decent picture for that purpose. However we run off of streaming apps through the onboard fire tv and it is extremely slow. Starting up and even changing the channel takes a while. Rather annoying if this is a tv you use a lot. Price was good though.
