Great bedroom TV but casting issues

This is a great bedroom TV. I didn't have any issues with the line at the bottom of the picture that people in earlier reviews spoke of, but perhaps this was fixed in the update when I set up the TV. The picture looks perfectly fine for someone who doesn't scrutinize video quality. I don't know how the speakers sound since I have the TV hooked up to a Vizio V51-H6 soundbar (which sounds great btw). The only issue I have is with casting. It's really hit or miss for me. Both my phone (iPhone XS on iOS 13.6) and TV are on the same network but many times the cast icon will not show up on any of my apps. A soft power cycle fixes the issue and I will be able to cast, but I have to do this almost every time. A couples times while streaming via AirPlay, it just stopped abruptly and returned to the SmartCast screen. Again, a soft power cycle allows me to start casting again but this gets tiring very quickly. Speaking with Vizio customer service, they gave me instructions on how to clear the cache. This was just yesterday so we'll see if this actually fixed the issue going forward. Other than the casting snag which could just be my particular unit, I'm really loving this TV. It definitely beats watching off a PC monitor. Would be better if we could install new apps or at least uninstall the ones we never use.

4K at 60Hz, HDR10, HDMI2.1, low latency, Variable refresh rate support on all HDMI ports, AirPlay and chromecast in the TV, what more can I ask. Works perfectly with my PS5, Xbox series S, Google Stadia and watching series and movies! Sound is great too. Maybe they could add 5.1 surround sound? The OS of the TV could use a huge improvement though , it really needs to catch with other TV OS out there in terms of UI. Also all of this for a price of 399$, a deal breaker.

I was looking for a 4K that was affordable and had the best matching features to take advantage of the new Xbox series x gaming features. This tv gave me the best bang for my buck. Looks awesome and streaming movies play great with HDR, Dolby vision and sound! Didn’t have the 120 native refresh rate but takes advantage of the Xbox VRR to compensate. Cant beat the price and stunning display.

This tv has an excellent picture! I was skeptical at first due to several negative reviews about how the colors are washed out and etc.. As you can see on the pictures below the tv is great! I really enjoy all the added benefits and had zero issues with any light bleeding whatsoever. Am I missing something or were several of the others complaining about this tv just very picky? I give this tv 10/10!

This TV is wonderful! I’m very happy with this purchase and I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking about it! The colors are vibrant and bright! I love the HDR! Coming from an LG 55 inch 4K standard Tv with no HDR this is a HUUUGE Upgrade!

I purchased this because I already have a Vizio P series and I enjoy it. The design of this TV is great, it look great hung on a wall as well. The newer remote is better designed than the older Vizio remote I have. I would recommend the TV for this price range for sure. I will update my review if I find any issues.

Defective - Color bar at bottom of screen

Bad right out of the box. I Have two Sony X900F's but wanted something more affordable for the bedroom. Decided to roll the dice on Vizio. Should have known better. Set it up about 2 hrs ago. There is a colored bar at the bottom of the screen that changes with viewing content. Problem is that the bar is a solid color across the bottom. Updated the firmware and tried the low latency fix from the forums. Yes this appears to be a common problem already. Taking it back to Best Buy tomorrow. Refund please.

I have the m series sound bar connected and this tv was okay at first. then started glitching and now id have to reset and unplug more frequent. I sometimes have to watch the tv without the sound bar and the stock spreakers are just terrible . The smart applications would just freeze even with my tv connected directly with the ethernet cable. Then i would factory reset the tv and will be okay for a bit, but start glitching again. I now just use the roku device connected to the hdmi port, but sometimes sound lags or dont even work at all. I bought warranty with this tv but its no use if its going to be replaced with the same tv. The price was reasonable but it was my mistake thinking this tv would be good quality like the older ones.

Got this for a bedroom TV. Make sure you go to RTings.com for settings. Calibrated Dark is the best setting out of the box with some adjustments. Handles PS4, Fire Stick great. The SmartCast is good, not great, but I don't use it much, it does have a lot of features, I just prefer to play my streaming apps through my devices. It does have VUDU which is huge, and it plays VUDU in 4K, which is not an option on PS4 or fire stick. You get a lot for the price. The M series in the middle of the road, but well worth it one the V series in my opinion. Speakers are good, but you shouldn't not expect great spears on any TV. Casting videos from your phone or tablet is easy with smartest and air play. I can use my Samsung Galaxy and my iPad to cast to the TV with no problems. Only problem is sometimes it hesitates to turn on, so I just unplug the power and plug it back in. This is my third Vizio M Series and I have no major complaints or problems. Updating via WiFi is easy. Vizio eventually fixes issues with firmware updates. There was so blooming effects when having Active Array on, which I turned off, but firmware update fixed it eventually. TV has deep blacks and rich colors, looks better than Samsung and TCL which I have tried and was not happy with. I have it hooked up to a Yamaha Soundbar through ARC. This also has HDMI 2.1 for gaming.

This is my second M-Series Vizio 4K TV, replacing the original model I bought back in 2017. This most recent model improves in some places, while losing or changing some features from that older model that I find myself missing. As a total package, though, it is very hard to beat this TV's good qualities at this price, and it's one of the few decent TVs still available in 50", which is the size I purchased. To get the basics covered, this is a very nice looking TV. The colors are pleasingly accurate, if you're into that sort of thing, and it gets nice and bright when it's pushing HDR as hard as it can. This is just outside of the "budget" range, so it's not going to compete with the top-of-the-line OLEDs or mini-LED sets. It has *some* HDMI 2.1 features, like auto low-latency mode and AMD's FreeSync for screen tearing reduction. The refresh rate tops out at 60hz, which, while a little disappointing, is to be expected for this price range. I/O wise, it ticks most of the boxes you're looking for. 4 HDMI ports (all of which, I believe, support the 2.1 features), optical audio, composite, and it even throws in an RF antenna input, which the old model skipped. It supports most streaming services natively, and for the handful it doesn't have built-in (HBO Max, being the most notable), it can handle via Google and Apple's streaming technologies. It isn't all good, but for these issues, I want to be clear that I don't know if they're an issue with the product line or just issues with the specific TV I have, but I wanted to mention them. Occasionally, the TV refuses to show any of the HDMI inputs. This is resolved with a reboot, but it's frustrating when it happens. Occasionally, the audio and video get way out of sync, and this happens both with HDMI sources and the built-in streaming services. Again, it's solved with a reboot, but it doesn't seem like a $400-$500 TV should have these kinds of issues. I have an Xbox Series S, and on occasion when I launch a game that makes use of HDR or the 2.1 features, the TV blanks the video, and I have to switch to another input and back to restore the picture. These are frustrations, but they are uncommon, and as I said, it might be a problem with my specific unit. Still, with quality options from companies like TCL and Hisense in the same price range, it's a factor to consider. Technical glitches aside, there are a couple of annoyances I want to mention as well. These are pretty nit-picky, but if they bug me, they might bug you as well. The remote features a total of 7 streaming shortcut buttons, and these are not customizable. For the most part, this is fine, because the heavy hitters are all represented: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Hulu are there. It also has a Vudu button, which works for me, because it's my video purchase platform of choice, but I don't know that most people will find utility in it. There's also a WatchFree button, which is Vizio's platform for free streaming videos. There are some gems here, like a channel devoted just to the American Gladiators, which as a 90s child, is delightfully nostalgic. The last button is a complete miss though: Redbox. I didn't even know Redbox HAD a streaming service, and I can't imagine ever intentionally choosing it when every other option exists. YMMV, of course, but a customizable option here feels like it would have been a better fit. In the category of nit-picks, there's the promotions. I wouldn't quite call them ads, but every few times you turn on the TV, there's a splash screen for some new channel in the WatchFree platform that takes a few seconds to back out of before you can get to whatever you actually wanted to watch. It's small, and compared to some other TV's ads, it's not bad, but this is about telling you what owning this TV is like. Overall, I vacillated between 3 and 4 stars for this TV. The technical glitches are frustrating, and there's always the concern that they'll only get worse as time goes on. At the moment, they're rare enough that they don't detract from the overall package. And that overall package is that this is a very good looking TV with competitive features at a very good price.

    Incredible For The Price

I just got this delivered and set up today, so I can’t say too much as of now, but so far this TV is incredible and beautiful. The casting works well, there’s free channels, and all the ports are HDMI 2.1 and comes with VRR which is great for games and future proofing for the next gen consoles releasing later this year. The panel itself is only 60hz, but it’s definitely not bad and what many next gen games will play at, and movies will look gorgeous on it anyways. The only downsides are that upon release, there is currently no Apple TV+ app and no HomeKit and Siri support, but this was specified and should be coming soon with a software update. Now, the TV can only get around 400 nits of brightness with its UltraBright 400 specification, but for me this is plenty bright and I have no complaints as of yet with it’s performance. The built in speakers aren’t great, but they aren’t bad either, but if you play or watch a lot of games and movies with deep bass and lots of action, it’s recommended to get a soundbar. The black levels are pretty nice as well, and the local dimming zones help to reduce blooming between bright and dark contrasts. In the end, for the price and features, this M-Series is hard to beat. With HDMI 2.1 on all 4 ports, VRR, Quantum Color, all HDR formats supported, and of course being 4K, all coming in for only $400, it’s hard to recommend anything else. Definitely recommend for people who want all the best features but are on a budget and need to keep the price low, whether for movies or games, it can nearly do it all.
