Customers are saying

Customers are delighted by the SmartCast™ 3.1-Channel Soundbar System's sound quality, with many praising its unexpectedly great sound despite its compact size. The subwoofer is also a hit, with users appreciating the strong bass it delivers. Setup is a breeze, and the price point is seen as excellent for the value offered. On the downside, some users have experienced connectivity issues, particularly with Bluetooth, and there have been complaints about the remote control not functioning properly.

    Good sound for the money

I recently purchased this Vizio sound bar. It sounded pretty good in the store. I took it home and hooked it up in my motorhome. It was easy to install. The next day I turned it on and the sound bar shorted out.. I took it back to the store to find they were out of stock. The nearest store that had it was 70 miles away.. I picked it up at the second store and this time it lasted 2 days before problems came up. In the end the sub wouldn't hook up so I gave up.

    Pain changing to different devices

First the sound isn’t bad, but at the same time, not something to write home about. Second, BIGGEST pain to get it to change to a different source. Once you are watching tv, then try to change over to the aux for another device, it goes silent. Then when you try to go back to the hdmi (tv)...it doesn’t want to work for that! Just annoying

I bought this open item and I realized at home that the power cords for sound bar and subwoofer are missing and the documentation was for a different model which made it unusable. I returned the sound bar to the store and purchased a different brand and a new one.

Subwoofer does not stay connected. Don't waste your money. Vizio does not stand behind their product and neither does Best Buy. Only 4 months and it no longer works.

Excellent option, especially for the price

I was looking to get better audio than just out of my TV and was happy to find this price point with a Vizio sound bar. This was my first experience with a sound bar, so I didn't really know what to expect. I was very happy with the quality of sound I got. The flat subwoofer was an especially nice touch, as it fit under our couch (my wife appreciated that). It isn't necessarily "room shaking" base (my wife appreciated that too), but nonetheless pretty nice sounding. I would recommend this to somebody who is wanting a good home theater sound at a very reasonable price.

Spotify DOES cast from the soundbar

    Posted .

I don't know what the previous comment is about. I was able to cast Spotify, Pandora, and other apps directly from the soundbar. The sound quality is excellent. I found that connecting on a 2.4 ghz wifi instead of 5ghz eliminated some initial intermittent connectivity issues. I almost purchased the 5.1 system instead of this one. I'm glad I didn't. Save yourself some bucks. The sound from this unit is incredibly rich and more than adequate for a huge room. Overall, I would rate this soundbar a solid A compared to the LG, Samsung, Sony models that I tried. Googlecasting is a must-have function. Can't beat the sleek design too.

    A rushed to market product

I bought the same unit a month ago. Unit had terrible connectivity issues. Wifi connection to the device kept breaking regularly. I thought I had bought a lemon so I returned to the store and exchanged it for a new one. Same problem. This unit does not work well with Spotify and Pandora. There's this weird crackling sound, like the speakers are going bad. This happened in the case of both units. So I called Vizio and was told this was a well-known problem. This is a prime example of a product that was rushed to market without proper testing and quality control. Sound (If it works): B+ Wifi connectivity: D Spotify/Pandora connection: F Design: B+ Vizio needs to update their product so that the Spotify and connectivity issues are resolved.

Good for eyes but not ears

A little history: I was looking for a soundbar for my bedroom (later on my adventure I require HDMI-ARC), and I tried 3 Vizio, 1 LG and 1 Samsung around $200 range (except this one (SB4031-D5), but I got it open box for close to $200). I care not for surround / 5.1, so 2.1 is fine for the purpose. On that price range, the Samsung and LG couldn't touch the first two Vizios. Which Vizios you may ask? The entry level SB3821-C6 (not sold at bestbuy) and the smartcast SB3831-D0. The two (with the same form factor) sounds crystal clear with great highs, clear mids and surprisingly enough bass (from the soundbar itself). The SB3831-D0 sounds a bit better, I assume because it has two drivers per channel (a tweeter and a woofer each channel, and 1 center channel driver). The latter also have a bit better/stronger/deeper subwoofer. Now don't get me wrong they are not the best speakers in the world, but for the price they provide great sound. Going back to this model being reviewed (SB4031-D5), I drove 70 miles to get this model with discount of about 40% (missing remote). From the looks standpoint, it is an absolutely beautiful set. The soundbar's compact, aluminum and all metal mesh design, combined with the subwoofer's thin design is wonderful. I really wanted to like this soundbar. Unfortunately the sound coming out of the soundbar is very muddy. For lack of a better word, the treble is held back, mids are muddy/unclear, and bass(or lower-mids) on the soundbar itself is almost non-existent. It may not be that bad if you haven't heard the other model. But after getting used to the crystal clear sound of the SB3831-D0, I was really heartbroken when realizing this soundbar's weakness. The subwoofer however is all good. It is probably even better than the SB3831-D0's subwoofer. I feel it can deliver deeper frequencies. So good that it is often overpowering the muddiness of the soundbar. If you like a lot of bass and don't care much about crisp highs you may be OK with this model. The SB3821-C6 and SB3831-D0 have the larger form factor, I guess you can fit more or larger drivers in there with proper ports / resonances to more effectively deliver room filling, crystal clear sound. The soundbar of SB4031-D5 is really small, there is probably no space for proper resonance or whatnot. The LG and Samsung soundbar in the price range also have similar smaller form factor and they both suffer similar problem, muddy sound, held back highs and non-existent lower-mids/bass on the soundbar itself. The samsung one may have a bit better highs but the mids suffer more So in conclusion you either have something that is "compact but muddy," or "crystal clear but bulky." I guess it all comes down to physics. Vizio did have the larger form factor built better (with aluminum caps and metal grilles) for last year's model. I wish they have something like the SB3831-D0 with the better built. I dislike fabric covers for its tendency to gather dust and stains.

    Terrible firmware and function

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Sound quality is ok, anything is better than built in tv sound. Sound bars function is a complete disaster. I own an older sound bar from vizio and it works flawlessly, this one not so much. Sometimes it doesn't turn on when the tv turns on, sometimes it does. Sometimes the volume from the programmed remote doesn't work and you have to turn the bar on and off several times before it works. Sometimes the volume just goes up for no reason! Want a bar to work with your phone app? Good luck! This thing works with the app maybe 20% of the time. Most of the time to get it to work with the app you have to forget device and reconnect. Even that barely works because the app is so buggy the thing doesn't connect correctly. I'm a very tech savvy person and this thing is a complete disaster with little to no product support/ firmware updates. I gave it 2 stars to be nice since the sound is descent but it deserves 1 star honestly. After owning this almost a year I would not buy this again and if you're considering it I would try a different company or different model.

It sounds amazing. Easy to install, slim profile. Sound bar is 40" x 2" x 2" and the Sub is 24" x 2" x 13". I'd recommend it with my eyes closed.

Bought this as a Sound Bar system, not a budget 5.1, so my expectations were correct. I have had a 2.0 system previously (lost in a move) and it was certainly better than the TV Audio. New Samsung 55" 4K meant new Audio as well, and this was a STEAL at $149! Movies and Concerts are Terrific with this activated!

Spotify Does Not Cast to Soundbar

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this sound bar on the promise of built-in Google Cast. Otherwise, I would have purchased last year's model which is nearly identical but much less expensive. The sound quality of build of the soundbar, woofers, and satellite speakers is great, but know that when you purchase this product you WILL NOT be able to cast music from SPOTIFY directly to the soundbar. Pandora will work. Google Music will work. But Spotify is not supported. I have raised this issue to Vizio customer service, Google customer service, and Spotify customer service. It doesn't matter to me who's issue it is to solve, I want it fixed and do not recommend this product until it is. I will update this review once it is fixed. Until then, follow the thread of complaints and updates here: https://community.spotify.com/t5/iOS-iPhone-iPad/Vizio-Soundbar-Issue-Google-Cast-Directly-from-Spotify/td-p/1401941 There are currently 4 pages of comments and growing...

When looking at this sound bar it sounded great and looked cool but after buying I am not pleased. It will randomly shut off on its own and there is lots of static from the sub that sits under the sofa. It will also cuts in and out on its own.
