    An inexpensive and convenient upgrade

This is an inexpensive and easy way to keep your Ring Doorbell (battery) charged and it’s easy to set up and connect. From unboxing to connection, it took me all of 20 minutes to complete. The panel itself is sturdy and well-constructed. It seems like it’s going to hold up well both to weather and to UV exposure, which is important. Despite only moving in two orientations, the mounting bracket allows enough flexibility to align it with the track of the sun for the best results and it’s easy enough to adjust it for changes in the sun track per season. And this is something you WILL want to do to ensure maximum output. I attached mine directly to my vinyl siding with vinyl siding screw hooks. (If you’ve never heard of these, Google them; they’re a great way to attach things to vinyl siding without any damage and are easily installed and just as easily removed.) I felt like the 13-foot connection wire was more than generous for my installation, though it’s easy enough to add wire if you need to. Just keep in mind that if you add too much wire you could end up losing some efficiency. In fact, I’d say that it would be a great idea if Wasserstein included another set of crimp end connection so that you could even shorten the wire to make it easier to install. I also feel like Wasserstein could have done a bit better on the instructions; while there’s great detail about setting up the mount, there’s really nothing in there about the actual connection to the doorbell itself. It should be noted that there’s no polarity to the connection, so it doesn’t matter which wire connects to which screw terminal on the doorbell as this isn’t mentioned at all in the instructions. I figured it out myself because when there is polarity for a connection, either one of the terminals or the wire itself will indicate this with some kind of mark or different color and neither was present. But it should have been part of the instructions. Heck, they didn’t even show any diagrams of the actual connection! The weather here hasn’t really been the greatest for testing out solar panels, but after a day or so we got some direct sun, and I was able to determine that my doorbell’s battery was getting a charge. Nest doesn’t make this easy though; when the panel is delivering a positive charge the doorbell will only show “Plugged In” on the Home app and won’t allow you to see the current battery level. For that, you’ll have to wait until sundown to verify. I think this is because the terminals on the doorbell weren’t originally designed for a solar panel, but for connection to a standard DC doorbell transformer that would be always connected. Perhaps in the future Google can push a firmware update or update to the Home app that will allow you to see the battery levels at all times. Other than these minor issues, I’m pretty happy with the unit and look forward to it allowing me to keep my Nest Doorbell where it belongs; on the front of my house rather than connected to a charger every couple of months!

Not worth it, doesn't power the doorbell.

I'm quite shocked at how little power this provides, my Nest Doorbell Battery shows "plugged in" all the time but the battery just continues to decline. I live in San Diego and the solar panel is getting probably 10+ hours of direct sunlight. Maybe have a defective unit but there is no charging or powering happening as is.

This solar panel is designed to be a supplemental power source for the Google Nest Doorbell. It works by significantly extending your doorbell’s battery life.

If the doorbell is mounted on the metal plate and with the solar panel under sunshine, based on the camera user interface, you cannot see "charging" on the app. It will just show the "battery" on the app as shown in the right picture

If the doorbell is not mounted on the metal plate and with the solar panel under sunshine, based on the camera user interface, you can see "charging" and its icon on the app as shown in the left picture.

For normal operation, you have to mount the doorbell with a metal plate. Actually, it is still charging by solar panel under sunshine though you don't see the word charging, But, if you want to see the word "charging" and the icon, you have to unmount the doorbell from the metal plate.

For example, if your doorbell can normally last 60 days on a single charge, using the solar panel for 3 hours each day will give you a total of 92.4 days of battery life. And if your doorbell can normally last 90 days on a single charge, using the solar panel for 5 hours each day will give you a total of 180 days of battery life. Please see more suggestions to extend the battery life:

      a. Be sure to mount the solar panel in direct sunlight. This will allow the solar cells inside the panel to receive maximum solar energy for charging your doorbell battery.

      b. Limit the number of trigger events experienced by your doorbell and adjust the motion sensor detection area in the app.

We hope you find this information helpful. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact our customer service team and we will be happy to assist you!

I love the Google Nest Battery doorbell, it's battery life is nearly 2 months, but taking it down to re-charge it is still a hassle. This little solar panel avoids that hassle. The solar panel is very high quality, with a +20% efficiency. It includes all the necessary hardware to mount the panel and about 13' of wire to run from the doorbell to the panel. The doorbell seems to have been designed so that a solar panel could be added. The back of the doorbell has 2 small screws that allows the panel to be added/connected. My second photo show the wires entering from the top of the bracket that holds the doorbell. Here you can see the y-connectors that are placed under the screws. You then can re-connect the doorbell.. The solar panel should be placed where it will get maximum sun exposure (preferably pointing south). The solar panel holder is plastic (I wish it was metal) with two screws to hold it in place. The panel can be adjusted up and down and be turned in the holder. Given I have a wood facia it was easy to connect with the provided wood screws. They also provide sleeves if you need to install on masonry/brick. Installation was easy. When I installed mine my battery was about half charged, When the panel is in the sun you will seen that it's charging (see last image). My battery was 100% charged after it's first day of sunshine. Perfect! I'm very happy with how easy this was to install and how well it works.

The Wasserstein Solar Panel for Google Nest Doorbell (battery) works as advertised. It is easy to connect and set up. It keeps the battery charged. I have my Google Nest doorbell attached to vinyl siding so installation was quick and easy. I first fully charged my doorbell via its charging cable. I then ran the solar panel's cable between the siding and the doorbells base plate to hook the panel to the doorbell. Connection is as easy as loosening the 2 screws on the back of the doorbell, placing the connections underneath and tightening them back down. Once the connection was done and the doorbell back in place, I ran the cord behind the seams of the siding. For my purpose, I did not attach the solar panel to my house. I have a bistro table on my deck that I set the panel on and secured it with zip tie so the wind doesn't blow it away. I may at a later time attach it to the house and it would be a simple process. The hardest part is hiding the cable since there is so much of it. I'm not sure how they decided the length of the cable. For my needs the cable is longer than needed and trying to tuck that much out of the way may be more than I want to do. However, if I had a covered deck/porch, I'm not sure it would be long enough to reach the outer edge to get full sun. The length is 13 ft. so consider your personal setup. I am happy with the solar panel, it is keeping the battery charged and especially during the cold days of winter it is convenient.

Easy install, needs longer wire, slow charge

This solar panel kit was very easy to add to my Google Nest Doorbell (battery) that I installed several months ago. The panel itself has a plastic frame with a textured webbing over the solar cells, and it easily slides onto the included plastic mount. Once mounted, the angle of the solar panel can be adjusted to tilt up or down and can also be rotated 360 degrees. There is a 13 foot long wire extending off the back of the panel with two small spade connectors to attach to the Nest Doorbell. The doorbell has two screws on the back for connecting to a wired doorbell system that would normally keep the device permanently powered. When you run the doorbell on battery power, the solar panel wire connects to these same screws to charge the device instead. It doesn’t matter which wire spade connects to which screw, making things simple. Installation was quick and straightforward. Just add the adhesive rubber washers behind the Nest doorbell's mounting bracket to create a gap to run the wire between the bracket and the surface it’s attached to, or you can run the wire beneath the surface and through the middle of the bracket for a flush-mounted, cleaner look. A couple different sets of adhesive washers are included for different types of doorbell mounts. A problem I had was that the 13 ft wire attached to the solar panel was too short for my installation, since I have a covered porch that is south facing; there wasn't enough cable to run up to the ceiling of the porch and out to the front fascia where the solar panel would get the most sunlight. Instead the length was just long enough to run the cable above the door and out to the panel installed at the top of the column closest to the door. While it still gets plenty of sun, it’s partially under the eaves which is less optimal. This also leaves the cable hanging awkwardly in the air just above the front door, so I wish the cable were a couple feet longer or came with an optional extension cable. My porch columns are wrought iron so rather than using the included screws for mounting, I zip-tied the mounting bracket through its screw holes to the column. Prior to installation of the solar panel, our Nest doorbell typically lasted about 2 months between charges, losing an average of 2-3% battery life per day. Since it is wintertime at the moment and in the Northeast US the days are still fairly short, we noticed that when the weather is cloudy and overcast, there isn’t any change in battery life when using the Wasserstein solar panel; the doorbell still consumes battery power throughout the day, decreasing the usual amount. However, on sunny days, the doorbell's settings will indicate “Plugged in” with the infinity symbol, showing that the battery is charging. After sunset, the doorbell goes back to using battery power. In the week that we’ve had the solar panel installed, we have yet to see the battery life increase from day to day after “charging,” however, we have seen the remaining battery life hold steady on clear, sunny days, even after a number of events have been captured/recorded -- effectively maintaining its charge. This should help extend the amount of time between charges for us, which is convenient during this time of year since even if we don’t get that many days of full sun, we won’t have to take down the doorbell as often to charge it on bitterly cold and windy days. My hope is that during spring and summer months when days are longer and we have more sunlight, we'll have enough consistent nice weather days that the solar panel will keep the unit charged regularly or even top up the battery life, avoiding the need to take the unit down at all for indoor charging. Overall, the Wasserstein solar panel for the Nest Doorbell has worked as expected thus far, giving us battery-free operation on sunny days and maintaining battery life for use in the evenings and cloudy days. However, I do wish it came with a longer wire or an extension cable to accommodate doorbell installations located under a porch roof or awning.

I live in Hawaii and sun power is pretty strong. Installed this with the solar panel directly pointing at the sun during mid-day hours and I was surprised at the results. The doorbell had about 62% charge and the three days that the solar panel had to charge it, it only managed to charge it to 66%. It was really sunny on those three days too. The Google Home app doesn’t show the battery percentage when it is wired to the solar panel so I had to unwire it to see the charge level. I really thought that it would have fully charged it but to my surprise, it only charged it up 4%. Motion is not constant in that area so I can’t see that being a big factor. Installation was as expected, easy. The wire holder lifts the wire off the wall too high off the wall in my opinion because it makes it more noticeable but it could be beneficial to prevent dirt from building up underneath the wire. It also doesn’t hold it very well where a strong tradewind might blow it off. The wire is extra long, 13 foot long, for a single story home but might be a stretch, a limited installation options for a two story home. The ends of the wire has u-shaped connectors instead of bare wires. It makes it easier and cleaner to attach the wires to the doorbell. I’m not going to rave about this but for me, it will work only because it saves me the hassle of removing the Google doorbell every time I need to charge it.

The Wasserstein - Mountable Solar Panel for Google Nest Doorbell (battery) is a perfect companion to the Google Nest doorbell, if you do not have access to low wattage wiring. From unboxing to use took less than 8 minutes. Plenty of gaskets and hardware. The NEST app found the setup quickly, and I was up and running. The only reason I rated 4 stars and not 5 is because this is only a 2 watt and not 4 watt output. Will it make a difference? I don't know, only time will tell. If you don't like having to recharge or replace batteries or can hardwire then the Wasserstein - Mountable Solar Panel for Google Nest Doorbell (battery) is an excellent solution. Cheers!

Let the sun shine on. The Wasserstein solar charger puts out 8-volts of power at a full 2-watts. More than enough to keep my Google battery powered doorbell running day in and day out. Only needs two screws to mount the adjustable base. Then click the solar panel in place for 'free' and worry free power. The kit includes special tacks to hold the charging cable in place from the panel to the doorbell. The super small spade lugs make connecting to the doorbell screws a cinch. No need to mess with fraying wires. The adjustable base allows for seasonal aiming of the panel for best exposure to the suns rays. ire cabling is plenty long whether mounted on the side of a building or gutter. Perfect is you can't run wires from the door to a transformer or don't need the hassle of pulling the doorbell out to recharge.

I was very pleased with this solar panel for my Google Nest doorbell, however, over time, it has failed to adequately charge the doorbell. I did fully charge the doorbell prior to connecting it to the solar panels and it worked great for a few weeks. I plan to exchange it so if something improves, I will update my review.
