Faithful to Chicago's Feel, Great Fun to Play

Set in a fictional recreation of the Windy City, Watch_Dogs puts you in command of wronged hacker Aiden Pearce on a quest for vengeance. He is helped out greatly by his smart phone which can instantly hack the city's "ctOS" network that controls everything from traffic lights, facial recognition softwares, crime prevention tools and even car alarms. The story spirals from there into webs of the underground crime syndicate and political maneuvering around the city built around a more human-scale story of those Aiden loves most.
The game looks incredible. Being a Chicago native it's fun to see that while the actual recreations of items are not particularly accurate (for copyright reasons mostly) the "feel" of the places and buildings is spot-on. Anyone who's spent time here will instantly recognize the Chicago of the game world. Aside from the visuals the game plays very well too- hacking is easy and incredibly fun (no pointless hacking mini-games), reading the npc's bios via your ctOS profiler is fascinating and hilarious, and driving is tight and unique to each vehicle. A lot of comparisons will be made to Grand Theft Auto for better and for worse- the textures and graphical lighting fidelity put GTA to shame, as do the driving and shooting mechanics. Rockstar is, well, a rockstar(!) when it comes to crafting larger than life characters and game worlds so the two games differ in terms of story themes and intentions. Watch_Dogs could be the darker and more sophisticated brother to GTA's younger, funnier and raunchier game.

Fun with Hacking - Quick Watch Dogs Review

If you love GTA V, you are going to love Watch Dogs! The story is interesting enough to hold your attention. Speaking of attention, if you are easily distracted by side missions and collectibles, then you will never finish this game! The is ALOT to do in Watch Dogs, which isn't a bad thing.
Multiplayer is okay. The added twist of a random person (hacker), hacking your game is fun. And the excitement grows as you try and find the hacker and deal with them. Best part is, the hacker looks like a regular person and can hide in plain sight. Wish Ubisoft made it easier to team up with a group of friends to play various game types against others.
Overall, it's a pretty good time. Lots to do, good storyline, and hacking.
NOT A KIDS GAME!
Enjoy!

I come from the battlefield franchise FPS and do not play games like this very often. However, watchdogs is amazing. The story line is great, the "during game play" environment changes makes it so realistic. Being able to play side missions with friends games using mobile app is pretty cool.
The one thing I don't like, is that you cannot invade friends from console friends list as it seemed to be advertised in game clips "on line hacking". Overall with this being the 5th day after release and not knowing if Ubisoft plans on patching the game to allow such features, I would rate this game 8 of 10 and call it a nice change of pace from the battlefield..........

The concept is great but they could have done more with this game. Also, at times missions become fustrating to complete. For the most part gameplay is good and is interesting to find all things to hack.

I am enjoying the game but really find some of the driving annoying. I typically don't like driving in video games though. I unlocked a special high performance car via UPlay. This car handles well isn't too bad to drive. However many of the other cars I end up with in specific missions are harder to drive.
I like the hacking aspect of the game as well as the combat / stealth aspect.
The campaign so far has been fun and the story is interesting enough.
The first night someone hacked me and I stopped the second guy who tried to hack me (or rather he blew it by trying to run me over). I haven't tried to hack someone in another game yet.
I know some reviews before the game came out said the graphics were not that great. But it seems really nice looking to me.
In game music is ok but most of the songs / bands I don't know.
If you like GTA games and aren't burnt out on them I think this is worth a playthrough.
I am still learning some of the tricks and hacks and things. I also haven’t played too many of the side missions yet. Lots to do here.
I would give it 4.5 half stars if I could.

There were a lot of rumors going around about Watch Dogs about how the game was going to be awful and the release delay was a sure sign of failure. Well the time finally came and Watch Dogs is everything anyone could have hoped for.
The graphics are top notch, especially on the PS4. Watch Dogs gives you so much detail and smooth graphics, you're basically overwhelmed with detail.
I love the hacking, even though it's over-simplified, and the creepy way to hack into almost every Chicago citizen's personal life.
The gameplay itself is awesome. The story and side missions are deep. Maybe not as deep as GTA 5, but it offers a more "realistic" abilities. It is similar to GTA 5 but Watch Dogs offers a twist to about everything GTA has to offer. This makes Watch Dogs a unique play to an already well-established genre.
A lot has been made about the online functionality and to be honest, I haven't even bothered with the online features thus far. The game itself is deep enough to keep me entertained.
Watch Dogs is a must for anyone that even remotely likes open world games. Get it for PS4 or XboxOne and you won't be disappointed. We'll all kind of stand by to see how the online functions stand up.

The type of game that's taken to a different level

I love the game, very exciting and even though it might look like GTA its very unique. There's a lot of people walking, interacting they have jobs some have a double life where by looking at them, they have you thinking they are good people, but once you hack in to their phone, the intimacy of their house you find killers, abusers, professionals, low life. Variety of mini games just in case you wanna do something else. The story is very strong, there's a big motive to do what Aiden Pearce (main Character) is doing. in fact is so strong that while the story goes on it gets you motivated to do the next mission to stop the bad guys, I mean no one messes with your family right?. You don't just open doors and finish a mission, you hack into places get codes to open doors or Decipher puzzles to get there. Yesterday I was walking through the city you know Minding Everyone's Business since I was hacking in to their cell phones when I received an alert that someone was trying to hack into my own cell phone, oh hell no!!! why do people do that lol, luckily I was able to stop the intruder and neutralized him before he stole my data little did I know I was playing against another person online, the guy just walked in to my world, you just don't do that and walk away (he's dead now) lol. Very cool game I play for hours. Give it a try I mean we gotta get prepared for our future some how right.

Watchdogs is great and fun sandbox game. The hacking, while relatively easy, puts a twist on the open world game genre. The game is action packed, if you play it that way, and the story is intriguing. Gunplay is a little too easy (guns are too accurate) and the driving kind of sucks, but you get used to it quickly. All in all the game is quite fun and worth your time.

After months of waiting, and we finally have Watch_Dogs. Was the wait worthwhile? Overall, yes, but for those of you looking for a ground-breaking entry into the open-world shooter genre, you may be a little disappointed. While Watch_Dogs gives you the abilty to do things using stealth and through a huge amount of hacking options (i.e. press a button to close a gate, explode a pipe, etc.), at the end of the day a lot of missions and activities become normal shoot-fests. In addition, while the game highlights some very relevant social commentary, it adds little to the argument, and oftentimes provides a confusing tone (successfully taking down criminals using the very system that is meant to be the central concern is actually kind of ironic).
The Good:
- Huge open world - graphically, this is a beautiful and well-detailed game.
- You can get lost in side quests and activities; there is a lot of variety here.
- Gameplay is very solid - shooting, running, and hacking become very comfortable. Driving is aiming for a little bit of realism but can be difficult at times.
- I actually appreciated the lack of sarcastic humor and silly ads all the time -- the more-serious tone made this game more "real" to me when compared with my time playing GTA V.
The Bad:
- Not as ground-breaking as we were led to believe pre-release, but the foundation is here for a really good franchise.
- The cops are relentless, to the point of lack of realism. You can't just lose police by out-running them, but have to use obstacles to disable them, which I find very unrealistic. Not to mention that it makes no sense that an officer would risk the lives of bystanders acting like a reckless bounty-hunter.
Overall, great game and I look forward to what comes next.

There was a lot of hype going in to this game, so I think some people's expectations were a little too high, but this really is a very good game. The first comparison is obviously that it's a lot like GTA. I don't see that as a bad thing. GTA was awesome and this just takes it in a little different direction. The world is smaller but pretty dense, compared to GTA and you're not having to eat and sleep to keep going. You don't lose your arsenal when you die, and every so often you do have to go buy ammo and supplies.
There are a ton of side missions, which I focused on at first, only doing part of the story line. I like the reputation meter. If you go on random killing sprees of civilians they're more likely to call the cops on you; likewise, if you stop crime and drive a little more carefully, they'll leave you alone. Killing cops also really hurts your rep...you're encouraged to outrun them and use the hacks to get away.
This was a very welcomed change for all the first person shooters. Only the second game I've bought for my PS4 in 6 months and I would definitely consider it worth it.

I have been excited for this game for quite a while, and was definitely looking forward to the release. I must have watched every video out there to get a true feel for the game prior to it being released. Overall, I must say that I am impressed with the game and the amount of activities inside the game.
First of all, let's talk about the good points. The visuals of this game are pretty awesome. Definitely not the best, but it looks beautiful on my 60" 1080p screen. The light bounces off objects and reflects in a natural way, so I have to give the graphics team some props on this game. Also, the amount of things to do in this game is huge. I would say about every minute or so I get a notification of a potential crime, gang hangout, criminal convoy, fixer contract, online race, or cash grabs. I don't think there is any room to get bored with this game. If you somehow find a way to complete the game 100% in less than 6 months...you might have an issue or no life. That brings me to my next point; variety. The variety in this game is amazing. Just simply the fact that every vehicle drives differently gives you a different feel everytime you play. Not to mention the amount of non-story mode gameplay is almost endless. If you just want to sit back and profile people walking on the street, or challenge yourself to losing the cops...you can do it for hours on end. There is even a built in landmark mayor system, much like foursquare is. You can go to famous Chicago buildings and check in to claim donations, or leave a donation for a future visitor. Also, the multiplayer is pretty awesome. I thought it was going to be stupid, but it is actually quite fun to see if you can pull off hacking someone or finding the person that has attempted to hack you.
Now, the bad. The driving in this game, while fun, kinda makes you made when trying to evade the police. Often the way you steer will cause you to crash because an overcorrection is quite easy to do...and turns...not so much. You literally need to slow the eff down at each turn to not injure civilians or damage your car. Also, the amount of controls you will need to recall in a split second are definitely overwhelming...like everytime you want to throw a grenade, first you need to open your weapon wheel, then select the grenade, then craft it, then aim, and then throw it...it's quite overwhelming...but I am sure the more you play the easier it will feel. And in some moments, you have so many options it is hard to figure out the correct one to use.
Overall, this is a great game that is fun and definitely will take some time to complete. I can finally get rid of my PS3 and focus primarily on the PS4.

Watchdogs was a must for me since I first saw footage at E3. After a long wait I can positively say that this is a great game. To mee Watchdogs feels like what Assassin's Creed would be if it were modern. As of writing I am about one third threw the story line and am pleased with the story, not thrilled but pleased. The hacking is easy to accomplish and very satisfying. Puzzle elements are at a minimum and fun to play. The open world map maked the game seem on the outside like a GTA copy but Watchdogs has for more to offer .

I've been waiting for this game to come out since the PS4 launch. At first, I regretted buying it, but I kept playing and soon got hooked.
It is an open world, which is always great, and similar to GTA, as in you have ample side missions to complete instead of just the campaign.
I really enjoy the new concept of a game being based on hacking.
Also, it's interesting how this game allows gamers to invade your game and hack your character.
Overall, this is a very good and enjoyable game. Definitely recommend it.

If you really LOVE open world games like GTA, Infamous and Saints Row you'll probably like Watch Dogs. There are some unique gameplay elements like scanning / hacking, but its mostly been done before. I actually didn't finish the game because I lost interest in the main story about 20 hours in. I've also never finished a GTA game, so take that for what its worth. Graphics are pretty, but honestly not much better than PS3, Combat is satisfying, driving is horrible and side missions get old fast.

After playing this game for a couple of days, the game does seem to have a striking resemblance to GTA. You are given a very open city to traverse, which is open from the beginning (although some hacking features are not available until you hack into the network). You are also given the standard issue of weapons to inflict damage on the environment and on your enemies. You have pistols, submachine guns, assault rifles, sniper rifles; everything you need to wreak havoc. However, the difference is that in this game, you also have a silent but deadly weapon in your pocket at all times. That weapon is your smartphone, and it is used to hack into the environment to spy on your enemies, hack into computer networks, and cause the surroundings to either help in your escape, or to slow down or incapacitate your enemies. This feature will make most players shift their playing style into something more strategic. Rather than going guns blazing into a mercenary occupied building like in GTA, you can take your time and map out the building and its occupants by hacking into a camera. Once you have that, you can decide the best course of action in reaching your objective, either by sneaking past all the enemies whose locations you already know about, or by incapacitating them either with the environment or with your personal weapons. You can even do a combination of the two. While the game does have certain faults, like police who are frustratingly difficult to evade, overall this game is worth a play if you have played most of the other open world games out there. More or less, you won't be disappointed.

Game started slow for me, but the more I played, the more I got into it. I've put in close to 10 hrs and I've only finished act 1(out of 5) with around 12% completion to entire game.. It brings somewhat of a unique gaming experience due to involvement of hacking in missions and fights. Lots of side missions to do as well and they all seem to be quite different from each other. Defintely recommend this game to anyone!

Very Fun Game with enough to do and explore. Sure to keep you busy for quite some time. Some people complain about the graphics or driving, but i just don't see what all the fuss is about. Sure there are games that have superior graphics and better driving. But what they don't have is immersion!. This game manages to make an open world seem full of life outside of your own character. Other games may have more glitz but this feels like it has substance. Bottom line.... FUN!
I know i said other games have better graphics.... but this is no slouch!
