This packages offers a restored version of the film and 3 different cuts. The theatrical, extended tv version and unrated version. Plus a new feature length documentary about the making, poster, postcards and a book detailing the production. Collectors will want to get this. Audio and picture are superb and an improvement over the previous release.

Waterworld is famous for so many reasons - it’s ridiculously inflated budget, outlandish aspirations in production, the tense relationship between Star and Director, the list goes on! This new collector’s edition includes the 3 versions of the film that there are, plus a wealth of special features and memorabilia that will help take you back (and forward) in time to where it all began

One of my favorite Kevin Costner movies. A little over the top, but it’s supposed to be. The 4K transition is flawless as is the soundtrack.

I love Waterworld, prefer the theatrical version which is the 4K version. Sure, I'd have liked all three cuts, but I had already bought the Arrow version anyway, so no loss for me. Nice transfer, nice steelbook art at a fair price, I just wish they would release steelbooks with original poster art,

First, the film has been around long enough that I won't waste time discussing its merits or lack thereof. I enjoy the film and take it for what it is. The 4K transfer is ranges from very good to excellent but overall a solid 4 out of 5 for me. The DTS-X track is another stand-out from Universal. Overall I highly recommend it.

This was a fine looking 4K (for the most part). Good use of subtle HDR but did notice a hint of macroblocking in the skies though. Other than that, I think Universal did a good job with it and I liked how it looked. It was also a fun adventurous movie worth the blind buy. Reminded me a lot of a Mad Max movie but on water!

I have seen this movie many times and its a classic film. Now they have released it in 4K and you can get it in a great looking SteelBook. If you have not already I would pick this one up and add it to your collection. The artwork on the cover and inside is pretty cool.

    4K REVIEW: WATERWORLD STEELBOOK

This is a dark and glossy SteelBook with a propensity to collect fingerprints. The front is primarily black around its periphery with an aqua-colored reproduction of Enola's tattoo in all of its complexity, complete with Far East-style writing within the symbol and running vertically along its left and right sides. A few smears of aqua color dot the top and bottom front panel edges. The rear side maintains the aqua coloring, making it the primary hue, shading brighter towards the middle and darker towards the edges. An image of a can of "Smeat," one of the funnier props in the movie (meant to resemble Spam) appears in full color, center. A Universal logo and some legal notifications appear center bottom in white lettering. A model number appears unobtrusively bottom right. The spine carries over the glossy black coloring. The film's title appears center in an aqua color, darker on the "Water" side of the text and lighter on the "world" side. A Universal studio logo appears bottom. Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features a black-and-white still image of The Mariner on the left and a snarling Deacon on the right. Both appear in front of a solid black background. Supplementally, this set contains only the film's extended cut in 1080p/DTS 5.1 on the UHD disc and the film's standard definition trailer on the bundled Blu-ray. The on-disc UHD content is quite good. Recommended.

Kevin Costner does an amazing job with this movie! I collect steelbooks, and I really like the art for this one. Especially the "smeat" picture on the back haha. Well worth the watch, and def worth the buy if you're a steelbook collector. The 4k rendering is amazing!

Nice steelbook for the collection, the uhd version of Waterworld is amazing not only for visuals but the sound will work your home theater. Its an older film so you'll see some soft and grainy scenes but it's supposed to be there. Great version of an underrated film.

Waterworks is a solid film... it’s able to stand on its own without any help. But, it’s not brilliant either. Having it in 4k with HDR adds a degree of life that should add deeply to its overall quality. Recommend as a good buy, but in 4k w/Blue-ray, it’s a must add imho. Especially in this steel book version.

Great native 4k rendering of this flick. Not too much HDR, and the detail level is incredible throughout. Audio is immersive, as well. Also very cool that UNI included the extended (TV) version here on Blu. Lastly, nice job on the steelbook artwork, Best Buy!

Not only is Waterworld still awesome, I looks great in 4k. The steelbook book is legit too. The "Smeat" on the back is clean. I'll definitely admit this movie is pretty cheesy at times, but it's still fun to watch. I love how Dennis Hopper completely oversold his character. It almost makes it a comedy.

If you like Costner's 90's stuff like The Postman, Dances With Wolves, then you have to pic up Waterworld. If you've already seen Waterworld, you've only seen half the story. This version goes a lot deeper into character development of 'The Mariner'. Get It!!!

This is one of the first movies I remember that looked at a possible outcome to global warming. Beautifully put together. A great upgrade if you already own the movie and an even better acquisition if you don't. One of my favorite movies of all time.

Waterworld is just what you would think. It’s a story about what a world dominated by no land and scarce resources. The 4K is beautiful and HDR is brilliant. There is heavy grain in some of the darker scenes, but this is a limitation of the film stock and not a reflection of the 4K scan.

OK, this film got bad reviews and had a lot of jokes made about it, but it is huge in scope due to the record budget expended on the effects. I replaced my old version of it with this pristine 4K UHD edition to show it at its best.

Aging isn't always bad, or good.

I love this film. It is not great, and it has not aged especially well. But I love it nonetheless. That said, the review is more for the product than the film: Some films were made such that the transition to higher resolution formats are easy, and relatively understandable when there are hiccups. This is NOT that sort of example. This is one where the film was incredibly creative, and higher resolution (plus HDR and more colour volume) have served to show a bit too much of "how the sausage is made", as it were. This isn't just film grain being a little distracting. This is where the colour saturation is a littler odd where it hasn't been graded particularly well to the newer format, the lines where some digital touch-ups were done previously are a little too aliased, and the original effects are just a little too campy. The one key mistake that I would call out more than any of the above, though, is the digital noise reduction - It is necessary to combat the film grain, but it has been used too much, such that in many instances you will see skin come off as plasticky and unnatural. HDR was not noteworthy in its implementation here, and any dynamic TV tonemapping would do similarly. That's easily one star off for the visual presentation not being what it could be. From an audio perspective, this film has never sounded better. The DTS:X audio track is huge and bombastic, but doesn't leave out the gentler scenes and dialogue. For some folks who only have Dolby Atmos capability, and not DTS processing, this could be a problem. But it is otherwise comparable as the two standards are both similarly capable, and are both commonly used in most major studio releases. The casing is adequate (I opted for the standard case, since the Steelbook was unavailable at the time of order), but nothing special, with just the UHD disc, single blu-ray, and an insert for the digital copy. This is a film that is wearing its wrinkles fairly well. It doesn't look perfect, and it has had some touch-up work done along the way, but ultimately proved a very enjoyable watch for me - Just not quite five stars.

I did not think they were going to release a new edition of Waterworld! But this is amazing with the box artwork, 3 versions of the film, BTS book with a poster! Defiantly worth the buy! One of my favorite Universal Films!
