This is the 'retail version' of WD30EFRX, which is the current model for 3TB NAS drive from WD. In the box there is the drive and mounting screws. Not sure why WD30EFRX isn't displayed on the product listing. The server recognizes it as such. While this is a new drive and time will tell, had WD NAS drives installed over two years ago with no issues. These drives are 5400 RPM and 64MB Cache, and have firmware specific to be used in NAS/RAID configurations in smaller arrays up to 5 drives, for home and small business. It's designed to be always-on and has additional heat and vibration related designs that don't apply to desktop drives. Note that there's a separate 'NAS PRO' line for bigger and faster arrays. It comes with a 3-year warranty. Used these drives with Synology NAS enclosures and connected to Linux PCs.

Purchased 4 in total for a qnap NAS. They're not speed demons but were never intended to be. They've been running for weeks with no issue. These drives are NAS drives and wouldn't necessarily be suitable for a desktop where speed is concerned but work great in a raid array for storage. Nice and quiet and running at a reasonable 95 degrees for the drives closest to the cpu and 93 degrees for the drives farthest from. The price is right also. If you have a 4 drive enclosure and intend to do a raid 10 I would recommend larger drives as the 4 drives total 12TB total but only 6TB usable after raid 10 is setup. Raid 6 would give you better mileage but worse performance.

I bought 6 of these 3TB WD RED, these are the retail boxed version of the OEM bare drives. I have 2 on my Synology DS218j and 4 in my Synology DS418Play. They run cool, transfer data fast and are generally happy to accept the data. So far so good, as I transition to having my files on a RAID on the network for easier access, I may buy a larger 10 TB drive later for a backup drive of the NAS data

My NAS finally died so I decided to build a whole new box. Picked up six of these drives total over the course of a few days to run 3 mirrored arrays. My previous drives were all WD Reds, from when they first came onto the market. I have been completely satisfied with their quality and lifespan. Only reason I give 4 stars is because write speeds could be faster, though I could just be spoiled by SSDs.

I bought this drive to replace an existing disk in a RAID array. When I opened it, it was a year and a half old from the date of manufacture. I guess it had been sitting on the shelf awhile. A week later, I purchased more replacement disks from New Egg which were only 2 months from the date of manufacture. Regardless, it's holding up for now.

Installed three WD Red 3TB in TerraMaster NAS, no problems so far. Picked up a fourth one today to fill my last bay in the NAS since they were back in stock. Should be able to just plug in and the raid array will see it and ask if I want to initialize the drive and rebuild the array for added storage. Have been using WD drives since the mid 1980s, anyone remember the WD Winchester drives?

I am pleased with this drive as it has served me well so far, BUT I regret not spending the extra $ on the GOLD enterprise class drives as they are substantially less likely to lose all of your data due to a minor earthquake or someone bumping your PC... I will be purchasing a few GOLD drives as my primary means of backups as I do not trust these after hearing how many people have lost their data.

I wanted a larger capacity drive to replace a near full HDD in my current NAS. This drive is quiet, and setup/formatting is pretty basic. You can get a larger capacity for about the same price online but I was in a pinch and this is all that was in stock. Good for any user for storage but the drive read/write speed is average. If you can swing it the WD Red Pro is a step up but so is the price.

I have several of these in one of my home NAS boxes. They don't get pounded on with massive reads and writes every second of the day. They do just fine for serving up movies, music and TV to several TV around the house. I'm not sure how well they'd do in business environment but for home use they've been fine.

Drive stopped working after 3 months. I bought this in December, installed it in my file server in January and it worked well for a while and then just decided to quit. The manufacture date on the drive was from 2017...not sure if that has anything to do with it.

NAS drives hopefully better longevity than consumer drives, and better RAID compatibility (though I'm not using that). Price was decent for those attributes. I have had several of these for a few months, so way too early to tell how they'll hold up. Not fast, but for backup / USB storage (hoping they) are good enough.Time will tell...

I utilize this hard drive(4 of them) in a QNAP NAS. They perform well and provide good performance(in spite of the lower RPMs. Using these in RAID 5, they perform well and write speeds are fairly quick. You are essentially limited by your network connectivity more so than the NAS drives itself(unless of course you have a 10 Gigabit connection).

This is the first time I've ever used Red drives but if they are like all other WD drive they will work excellent . I have bought WD drives for the last 5 years and all are still working as I write this. So I am confident they will perforn flawlessly for many years to come

This drive replaced another WD red drive. This drive works well as the other seven I have. From experience if you have a drive failure WD is good about replacing the unit. This is a RED as is you call best buy they do not know that, even if you call the store and they read the box.

Designed specifically for NAS units, this drive was a direct replacement for one that reached its end of life. Western Digital has a solid track record in this space and I have been using their products for many years. The replacement was simple and performance has been as expected.

It was accepted by my Drobo disk array as a replacement for the previous disk that had failed (different manufacturer). WD has always provided easy warranty replacements whenever I've had to use them. That is the number one reason I feel confident using WD NAS drives.

Didn't know that Best Buy started carrying ReD drives until I got my MyCloud Pro 4 bay. I went in and say these in the shelf. Don't let the blue box fool you, the ReD logo is legit. They are just in "consumer packaging". Still the same warranty and support and the normal ReDs.

On Windows it comes out to 5.45TB. I transferred a little over 2TB to it and average write speed was 110MB/s. Right now it's just sitting on top of my computer case but after that long transfer I used a temp gun and the surface of the case was 87F and the drive was 101F.

Insert drive into computer, format, copy files, rinse, repeat. Files are safely stored on the seemingly endless storage hole that 3Tb provides. Quiet, doesn't eat too much or complain about bad files being copied. All "Stays Golden Ponyboy" with WD!
