Needed more space than what the PS5 offered (which isn’t acceptable in my opinion). This drive had 2TB after install which will last me quite a while. Definitely worth the sale price and had a slight noticeable speed increase - 6750. Not close to the 7300 WD claims but I knew going in it wasn’t going to reach that speed. Would’ve been nice to hit over 6800 but many have stated the PS drive is slower than the speed I got so it’s a nice upgrade. The drive is super easy to install. As many have said, the trickiest part is removing the PS cover only because you don’t want to damage it. However, I didn’t find it that hard to remove. I wouldn’t pay full price for this drive though but at the price I paid it’s a great value.

Very easy to install in the PS5, no hassle once it’s in. It also includes a built in heatsink which is mandatory if installing in a PS5. I compared multiple companies offerings of internal memory, and multiple versions of Western Digitals memory. WD stood out as the more reliable and performance oriented. Though being slightly more ($15) at the time of my purchase, this was what I considered the best since it contained 3D NAND flash memory versus older memory styles in the cheaper/older versions.

WD black is the way to go. Heatsink is already there for you and the storage is what we all need. I got one of these so I can play the PS5 games on the console and not have to transfer my games from an external storage drive as PS5 games cannot be played from that. So now I install all the PS4 games on the external storage as they can be played from there. Western Digital has always been reliable for me and the speed is there too! I choose the WD Black every time hands down!

Western Digital and PlayStation have teamed up to create the PS5 officially-licensed SSD addition to add space for games/apps/etc. The box includes the SSD module and user guide. The SSD comes with a manufacturer's 5-year warranty. PROS: ----------- * This officially licensed product is all you need to increase "hard drive" space on your PS5. It comes in 3 TB sizes: 1, 2, or 4 TB. * The built-in heatsink will help keep it ventilated to help prevent overheating. * Installation is super easy, plug-and-play basically. Pop off the PS5 top/side panel, remove the SSD slot cover with small Phillips head screwdriver, unscrew the existing screw/spacer, insert SSD, put the spacer under the end of the SSD, screw in, put SSD cover back on, put the PS5 side cover back on. There are youtube videos that show this easy process if you search for one. * The system automatically sees the new drive and prompts the user to format it, which only takes less than 10 seconds or so. * High write/read speeds (6.6GB/s & 7.3GB/s respectively). Once installed, the PS5 will give you the actual rate your hardware is providing you on-screen. * This hardware will also work in a PC that accepts M.2 2280 form factor. * The 5-yr warranty is very good and should last until the PS6 arrives or close to it. CONCLUSION: ===================== Since most PS5's include only 825GB of storage, this extra space is exactly what every gamer needs. It will help free up the console drive which in turn can help overall performance improve. I have the 2TB version, and this has instantly given me nearly 3 times the original "gaming" space I have on my console. Keep in mind that 825GB is in the console storage, but a bit of that is used for the operating system. The new storage will give you room for more games, apps, and videos. Depending on how many games you have to download, just choose between the 3 sizes (1, 2, 4TB) to get that sweet spot because it's not cheap. Highly recommend due to easy installation and the fact that the original 825GB fills up quickly!

Never enough storage on the stock PS5 tell now! I wanted the 4tb, but im impulsive 2tb was in stock, so i snagged it. Super easy to install. Look it up on YouTube for your specific model. Hands down best upgrade ever, no more back and forth on an external HD, or delete, re-download. Anything you wanna play at your fingertips all day errrrry day.

I’ve been using Western Digital storage products since I started using, upgrading, and building my own PCs since the early 2000’s, and I’ve always had a great experience with them. I’ve never experienced a sudden and unexpected drive failure (knock on wood), and they’ve always been very reliable. When the company pivoted into the NVME storage market from their traditional platter storage platform years ago, I didn’t hesitate to try them out and had a great experience with their NVME offerings inside my laptops and desktop PCs as well. So when I learned that WD is also offering official PS5-licensed drives with a 5-year warranty, I didn’t hesitate to give them a shot and I’m glad I did. The SN850P drive was very simple and easy to install. If this is your first time upgrading your drive on the PS5, there are plenty of tutorial videos online. The airflow-optimized heatsink looks cool and performs well. If you want to inspect what it looks like underneath the heatsink, you just take off the six T5 screws and peel the top heatsink cover off (see pic). I benchmarked the SN850P via CrystalDiskMark 8.0.4 before installation on my Windows PC, and it scored 5994.46 MB/s sequential read and 6326.89 MB/s sequential write. The rest of the stats can be viewed from my screenshot. What this means is that the SN850P lives up to its marketing claims and is fast and efficient. With the SN850P’s great performance, long 5-year warranty, and efficient and cool-looking heatsink, I was initially going to rate it as 5-Stars. I feel inclined toward a 4- or 4.5-Stars ratings, however, due to its current price. At $0.11/GB for the 2TB SN850P, it’s almost twice as expensive as other brand-name 2TB PCIe Gen4 x4 drives. Even the slightly older 2TB WD SN850X with a 5-year warranty is currently selling for $0.07/GB. If you got the coin, then by all means get the latest and greatest SN850P for the PS5 from WD. But if you’re price-conscious like me and want better value, then either wait for the price to come down or get the older Western Digital SN850X.

While a bit on the pricey side it works great, and completes Games/downloads faster than i expected. No complaints so far.

I dont know what took me so long. The game of deleting, uninstalling and reinstalling games is over. I even went back and redownloaded everything i had deleted just because i have the space now. I can not recommend enough. Was so easy to install. The freedom from the burden of space is worth the price alone. The question shouldnt be if you should get it, but more about how much space you can get. I debated between the 1tb and 2tb for a while and caught the 2 on a sale. I dont think i need more than that but GTA 6 could make me change my mind haha so far though, best purchase I made since buying the console.

Easily installed and added so much needed space for all my gaming needs. Also bought two more for family as gifts. Gamers loved it.

With how large games are on PS5 i need more storage ASAP. I was tired of having to delete and redownload games so bought this on sale and love it. Just as fast if not faster. So far had no issues with it and my main games that i actually do play often. Definitely been telling friends to buy one! Installation is also very easy and fast.
