I am using these two drives in a RAID 1 configuration and they are working very well. I am using them in a small server, replacing a couple of failed drives. I noticed that these drives are faster than my old drives and my server is running much better over all. Nice quiet drives with a lot of storage.

Great product. had no trouble installing it, I just placed it in the Hard Drive tray and booted up the computer. One problem though. I couldn't figure out how to install Windows 7 OEM.

The original hard drive I wanted was out of stock (1 TB). I was in great need of one so I purchased the 2 TB, and am over all satisfied with it.

What can I say. These Western Digital Black Caviar Drives are good as gold. I have had this 2TB for a few months now and was happy that it came with 64 mb of cache. The box states 32 mb of cache and that's good. However 64 mb of cache is better. Let me tell you these drives are rock solid, fast, hiccup free and great for every application except for RAID configurations. They are not meant for RAID and shouldn't be purchased for that use. Simply put Caviar Black Drives from Western Digital are great ultra reliable drives that will bring you maximum joy and they have a 5 year warranty as well. Just in case there is a problem Western Digital has one of the best customer service on line and on the phone. I would also register the drive(s) on the Western Digital website as soon as you get them. This drive does not come with the awesome Western Digital SureConnect SATA Cable. I don't even know if they make that great SATA cable anymore. The last time I received one was with a WD RaptorX .But it's not a deal breaker. Just be aware that if your adding a drive you may need to purchase a SATA cable. My next HDD purchase will be this one again. For what this drive is, the price point makes it good even if it's not on sale.

2 TB is the largest drive that most regular folks are going to be able to use in a straightforward manner, since the limitations associated with 3 TB and beyond - GPT, UEFI, Advanced Format, non-bootable drives, etc - are icky and will slow adoption until the legacy tech is retired. I was specifically looking for a drive that spun at 7200 RPM, had a five-year warranty, and came in retail packaging. Why? This drive was going to serve as my system drive, so I didn't want one of those eco-green drives that spins at 5900/5400 RPM, thereby reducing drive performance. 3 year warranties are standard on "regular" hard drives; you have to pay a little extra for 5 year ones, and given the number of hard drive failures I've experienced over the years, the extra warranty coverage is a must in my book. Why retail packaging? Obviously, I could get drives much cheaper at online shops like Newegg or Tiger or the like, but those all typically come in OEM packaging. Getting warranty coverage on an OEM drive can be extremely hit-or-miss. Some companies will work with you; others will laugh in your face. Beyond that, Newegg has become quite slipshod in shipping these days; I remember when they used to ship OEM drives in blocks of solid foam, with additional air bag cushioning. Now they just stick the drives in a box, which is obviously a recipe for disaster, and the return/RMA procedure, while streamlined, is still a headache. Sometimes there's still a case to be made for local purchasing. My other "cheaper" option for a drive that met all my requirements is the Seagate Barracuda XT line, which sells for much less at Microcenter (one of their loss-leader specials, I'm sure), but going there would be about 100 miles, round-trip, and suddenly it's not cheaper at all. Oddly enough, this drive didn't come with a SATA data cable, nor a 4-pin molex <-> SATA power converter cable; it's the first retail package HD I've ever bought that didn't come with them. No problem, since I've accumulated about 50 spare cables over the years, but be aware. It also didn't include any jumpers, which is a trend I've been noticing more and more with SATA-based drives in general over the years, but thankfully, unlike PATA drives, one almost never has to make any jumper settings on these drives. The drive's not noisy at all, either; my case fans make more noise. This was also the first time I used the Best Buy "buy online and pick up at store" option and it worked just fine. No complaints there. It's a little pricey compared to the uber-cheap, eco-green 3-year warranty OEM-package drives out there, but for me this drive is definitely worth the additional cost.

This is a GREAT hard disk drive, 2TB and 64MB cache........transfers data very fast. You will enjoy having this UNIT. I was very pleased to see it's actually a 64MB cache instead of the older 32MB cache model. Installed quickly and works very well, Fast, quiet, and the best warranty (5yr) you can get! Go to Western Digital internet site, activate warrenty and then download Acrinis True Image Western Digital Edition, it's free and you can use it to checkout and install disk unit. You have 30 days of free call-in service, if you have a problem with unit, the one month "period" starts from the time you make the first call to their 800 line for help and ends 29 days later, during this 5 year warrenty period. Buy it, it is worth the money spent.

Purchased this hard drive as the centerpiece of my Windows Home Server installation. Ordered on Christmas day and got it 4 days later, can't complain about the quick (and free) shipping. Kudos to Best Buy for carrying this type of leading edge hardware! When I received it, I was very pleased to see it's actually a 64MB cache instead of the older 32MB cache model. Installed quickly and works very well, Fast, quiet, and the best warranty (5yr) you can get! What's not to like? I need to comment on the reliability and support from Western Digital as well. I've always had great reliability from WD drives (since my first purchase in 1988) and the one time I had a problem, their prepaid warranty return allowed me to get my replacement drive within two days. Will always select WD products!!!

Bought 2 of these (Raid 1 array) installed in minutes,.. didn't expect anything special,... but then I started transferring files and WOW!! these are as fast as my VelociRaptor 10,000 rpm drives!! read and write speeds are incredible! I would buy 2 more, but I think I will wait 6 months when they are priced from $99 - $109 (you know how that goes) I guess I was used to Seagate (doorstop) drives, same specs, but slower transfer speeds,.. I will NEVER buy another Seagate,.. I have owned 8, and 7 have failed,.... don't be tempted to save a few bucks, pay a little more and get WD drives.

    Uncertain long term reliability

This HDD was purchased to replace exactly the same model installed not more than a year ago. About 6 months into service, it began to present read/write and sector errors that could not be fixed even with hard core utilities like hard disk regenerator and spinrite. I like the brand name and have had good success in the past, but this new(er) 2TB drive leaves me wondering about reliability over the long term. Time will tell. Good speed and transfer rates, a little on the noisy side.

I needed extra hard drive space for my pictures, movies and music files and this hard drive was what I was looking for. I have purchased Western Digital external hard drives in the past and have been very satisfied with their life span, speed and reliability. So far this hard drive is living up to my expectations.

It's SATA, it holds data, it dispenses and stores it fairly fast. I've also used the newer SSD drives and (of course) it's not that fast, but it's a ton of space and it works for what I need it to. I made sure to get the Black as it comes with the 5 year warranty, although I'm really hoping I won't need it :-)
